Crispy duck was okay, sweet and sour had little flavour and chicken chow mein was dry, plain boiled chicken and no sauce. Wouldn't recommend and expensive for the poor standard. Reply to below's response: No keyboard warrior here, I would have returned in person if not for the distance. Oh, your unapologetic and defencive reply is a good business tactic. Take a look at the Chow mein picture... it hasn't been stir fried, just boiled noodles and chicken. As for the cost, it's expensive for substandard food, I expected better for the price.

Not being funny but the food got here and the chips were cold and we ordered barbecue spare ribs and they was definitely not barbecue flavour they tasted weird and had barely any meat on the bones, I complain and ask for them two to be refunded and but it got denied. Overall this place is okay but not brilliant.

Purchased 1/4 duck with pancake spring onion and cucumber. The spring onions and cucumber were not edible, they were slimy. Tried calling but no answer.

Singapore noddles are normally vercimli and not fall of bone ribs suggest pressure cooker

The shop this evening clean, brightly lit and freezing cold, with staff wearing outdoor cold weather clothing. Cash only was accepted, which seems to indicate to me that that the business is on its last legs. The food was quickly prepared, and decent ingredients, yet tasted very average. In retrospect, I think I got ripped off with a couple of extras. I won't be returning.

The chicken chow main had no flavour to it, chicken was rubbery and noodles very oily. The chill prawn starter wasn’t nice either the batter was very thick and chewy. Over all this wasn’t edible, the only thing we ate was the hot chips. Very disappointing, wouldn’t order from there again.

The order was delivered in the specified delivery time, the person who delivered it was very friendly and efficient and the food was delicious. Will definitely be ordering here again!

Chicken chowmein wasn’t nice at all and couldn’t eat it! Just noodles, bean sprouts and dry chicken thrown in a tub. The platter box was dry, and not nice. The only thing my children enjoyed was the chips, sweet and sour sauce and prawn crackers. Rice and curry was nice but overall disappointed with our meal.

Quality food, great flavours and like it was freshly cooked and not reheated like a lot of places. My son asked to order from there again so it got his approval!!

Ordered sweet and sour chicken - chewy and tough Beef and mushroom - chewy and tasteless once you got through all the vegetables and chop suey completely tasteless and watery - I can garentee the chefs would not eat the food as Chinese chefs because it has to be one of the worse Chinese food I've eaten. Got extra to save and eat next day - but the only place it's going is in the bin. Shame on you chefs - please get making decent Chinese food. Disappointed with the response from the Goldern Gate - actually I live with a chinese cook. So luckily I do get to eat lovely Chinese food regularly 😋 Sorry you don't take vital feedback for your services and thank you fir your comment. First time we’ve tried here, bit disappointed tbh Crispy duck definitely not crispy and the portion was tiny! All food was lukewarm and overall just not great quality and it’s not cheap! Not what we expected

Where to start, placed my order, it arrived 10 minutes later, yes 10 minutes…. How on Earth can food be freshly cooked to order in 10 minutes, the whole order was complete madness, microwaved mush, reheated chicken balls that resembled fried greasy testicicles, the prawns were like chewing a tramps 7 years old sock, no experience in chewing a tramps 7 year old sock but I’m sure the experience would be quite similar. £37 for what can only be described as the worse, the bad, the disgusting, disgraceful food ( sorry not even resembling food ) never ever again ! STAY AWAY I IMPLORE YOU.

The worst Chinese we’ve had. Three prawns in total with the prawn dish. Other dishes were just powdered mush, and tasteless. The aromatic duck didn’t even look like duck, more like diced meat. Should be shredded, just a complete waste of hard earned money. Avoid

This was the worst Chinese food I’ve ever ordered. I asked for one of the two chowmeins to be plain , they both came plain which was not what I asked for . Instead of admitting they made a mistake they tried to tell me that a chow mein comes without sauce and only beansprouts. Not only have I worked in Chinese restaurants before , even if they make their chow mein with no sauce that is no excuse for charging people £8 for a dish that consists of boiled noodles with meat on top, it was the blandest dish I have ever eaten. On top of this the food came cold this is a food safety concern , to say we only live 3 minutes drive away there is no excuse . I wouldn’t be complaining if this was a cheap takeaway but it was £37 and we couldn’t eat any of it. Very disappointing and this is not acceptable .

Very friendly, great food, very tasty. Good clean seating area but on the night we visited there was no heating on and it was so cold the receptionist had a wooly hat and coat on...... You can't pay by card in the shop but strangely you can when ordering on-line for pick-up! 🤔

Terrible tasteless food not sure what all the reviews are about. Zero seasoning ribs were pure fat and watery sauce. For a takeaway with a very small menu and most overpriced in belper it was shocking

I have just moved into the area and didn't know anywhere to get a Chinese meal,when the meal arrived on time and hot and was beautiful, never tasted anything as good will definitely be using again and again.

Unfortunately the Singapore chow mein did not have chicken, instead pork was substituted and it tasted pretty bad. There were around 3 prawns in it too. My son's chicken fried rice was incredibly dry and oily.

Ordered via just eat. The prawn toast were very greasy. The other dishes we just OK. Imo did not feel value for money.

The food tasted stale, dry, and very unsatisfying. Actually felt queasy eating it. Seemed to be quite cheap (king prawns were rubbery and tasted 'off') which is strange because it's one of the more expensive Chinese restaurants around in the area. Can safely say will not order again from here.

Only our second time of ordering from The Golden Gate. Tonight we had a Duck dish, Yeung Chow Rice and Sesame prawn toasts. Ordered via JustEat site and delivery time was scheduled for 45 minutes. It was being dished up WELL inside 20 minutes- I'd barely had time to warm the plates so you can't ask for quicker than that!. The meal was piping hot, flavoursome and plenty for two of us. The delivery gent was very pleaseant and courteous so - thank you every one. An all-round fabulous experience.

Since moving to Belper last year how struggled to find a Chinese that I have been happy with, until tonight ! Food was delivered early, and it was the tastiest I have had, really lovely ! Will definitely be using again !

Food came on time and the ribs were great. Soup tasted like slightly sweetened cornflour-thickened water. Tried to save it with some vinegar and salt but unfortunately it had to be binned - wasted £7 for two portions. Both mains were almost tasteless. Not as bad as the soup, but still very disappointing. Overall it just feels like a waste of money and calories.

We have used this restaurant take-away delivery several times in the past and the food has been fine. Today, we placed an order early in the day with a delivery time of 8pm. 20 minutes before the delivery time they cancelled the order!!! Why couldn’t they have notified us earlier? Won’t risk using this restaurant again.

Always great quality. My other half is lactose intolerant and they don’t cook anything with dairy so it’s not overly greasy either. Just really tasty quality food.

Very good friendly delivery and amazing food, if I was to recommend anything would be the triple roast really nice chicken, spare ribs and slices of pork with honey, for a great price as well.

Super fast delivery, ordered at 5.17pm and it was on my doorstep at 5.41pm, WOW!!!! To cook that food from fresh and get it to my door in that time is gobsmacking! Food wasn’t nice ordered a takeout for my family as I’m unwell and thought a night off from cooking would be nice. Chicken balls were chewy and meat felt dry/stringy. Cantonese style chicken was warm on the outside and cold on the inside!!!! Chilli chips were nice, egg fried rice was bland, chicken curry was nice. Prawn toast wasn’t nice at all, looked and tasted like it had been days old and microwaved. My teenage boys usually clear the plate and go for 2nds, they barely touched the food. 80% wasted. I have eaten from here in the past and couldn’t fault it then, maybe changed cooks or just warming up yesterday’s food to cut their waste. I won’t be ordering again.

Delicious food. Hot and fresh. Was loads left over as food boxes were full. Only complaint is £2.50 for sesame prawn toast and only got 1 slice of bread cut into two triangles, usually it's like 6 smaller pieces but it was nice so still worth it. Second order from this restaurant and will order again. Best chinese in Belper. (Can I suggest crispy seaweed being added to the menu)
