Food is not bad with a good choice. Just a pity about the very loud kids screaming.

My first visit and it won't be last! Friendly staff and nice food! The lady at the entrance gave us a bigger spot because I was with the pram(a bit quite when we arrived but busy when we left) Food was hot and very tasty

Would not recommend to anyone !! Not worth £20 per adult at all. Nothing was fresh, most containers were empty, all food dry because it’s been there all day or since yesterday. They make you pay as soon as you walk through the door. Flies everywhere and on all the food, nothing was covered. Toilets were dirty, faeces splattered all on toilet. Not much desert options and most things empty.

Lovely place to eat. Very clean, food to a high standard with a whole array of different food, both tasty and pleasing on the eye. Very good selection of foods and deserts and plenty for all the family. Lovely experience would highly recommend. Thank you.

Called up in advance and have messaged before to ask about GF, was told to let the person on till know. When we arrived I did just that, I was sat down and told everything is labelled with the allergens and anything else I may want to mark it on the menu they provided to me and they will get the kitchen to make it GF. I asked for GF spring rolls (wasn't sure if they could as i wasnt told at the start there were specific things i couldnt have). They brought out the spring rolls and I ate one, we then queried this because they tasted and looked exactly like a normal spring roll only to find out they were not GF!!! Would never go back again, very concerning and makes me question if the rest of what ive eaten was in fact GF! Was then given an "apology" which was salt and chilli squid that they originally came back and said couldn't be made due to flour! And the lady who apologised said "that should be ok 4 you!!" Didn't even offer a refund!

Would recommend! The selection was great, lots of fresh food and a really varied selection of the classic Chinese dishes. It went from quiet to busy very quickly in the early evening. Staff are lovely, the barmaid is a professional multitasking mogul!

BIG mistake being made by this nice place. It distrust it's customers. Now they may have had good reason (shame on you for stealing) but don't make us stand in the porch! So set up your buffet tokens online. (Buffet and bar). Set up a token operated entrance from the porch. Put smiling faces around the buffet to explain the food and assist. No more open payments which are embarrassing as we block the other diners! GREAT FOOD!

What a fabulous restaurant, the best all you can eat buffet we've been to, food was hot and tasty and constantly being replenished, a great variety of dishes and the puddings were to die for, along with tubs of icecream and ice lolly's, sweets, fresh fruit and a chocolate fountain, only £23 per person and £6 for my grandson for what amounted to a 4 course meal it was well worth it 👌, we'll definitely be back soon,, just to comment on some of the negative reviews, our booking was for 5pm on a Thursday and all the food was hot and tasty, the cheesecakes and gateaux all looked and tasted wonderful, between us I think we tasted everything except for the seafood, nothing was over cooked or dried out as some others have said and it was all piping hot and very tasty, I'm sorry but I don't know of any takeaways that do a 3 or more course dinner for £23, plus eating in a restaurant adds VAT to the bill that you don't have in a takeaway, and the cost of running a restaurant are much higher than a takeaway so to say you get better value from a takeaway for £23 is bonkers, people are far too quick to criticise, I bought my son a take out milkshake and a vanilla slice for £9 from a cwmbran cafe this week, daylight robbery! It puts the cost of this restaurant into even better light!

Friendly staff , very pleasant surroundings food spot on with plenty of choice will definitely recommend to friends and family. Overall a very pleasant evening.

The place is beautifully laid out and well decorated. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The food was presented really well. However, unfortunately most of the food was completely cold. At 5:30pm in the evening so should be a peak time. The dim sum buns were good and were hot and full of flavour. Just for an idea of what exactly was cold and to show it was more than one or two items, here are some examples. Egg fried rice - cold Chicken balls - cold Aromatic duck - cold Salt and pepper chips - cold Spare ribs - cold Sweet and source sauce cold. Even the desserts were disappointing and stale looking. Such a shame as it has real potential and the staff are working hard to make people feel welcome. £22.99 each and I don't think we'll be returning. Stick with a take away from our local next time.

Total utter waste of £13 ! Ordered on-line at 5pm. Arrived 15 mins later & no order received as their ordering system was not plugged in. Good start. Took that on the chin as these things happen. 10 mins or so & the food was ready. Sweet & Sour King Prawn Cantonese style, boiled rice & prawn crackers. Eating the prawn crackers on the way home I thought "tasteless". Hope the rest is ok... Who'd have thought you could get sweet & sour SO wrong! The prawns are coated in some weird grainy yellowy batter. Yuck! Couldn't eat them. The sauce was just a red, slightly gooey nonsense that didn't taste of much either. Pepper's, onions & pineapple.... Must be the cheapest ingredients on the planet. Tasteless. Even the pineapple wasn't sweet!!! I'm at a loss. Got to be one of the worst meals I've eaten or rather attempted to eat. I read reviews before trying & I simply don't understand the stark contrast. Never again.

Great food. Nothing lacking on the variety side. Even do kids meals. A tad expensive but worth a visit. Lovely food.

Went to the buffet for my daughters birthday. Barely a welcome, food poor and only noodles and dry rice if you are a vegetarian. Deserts in a cabinet with some gone off smelling seafood. Wouldn't mind the price for a friendly atmosphere and good food. They didn't manage either. Most disappointed.

Food wasn’t as nice as other chineses. Food is expensive for a buffet! Have to say was disappointed but staff were lovely, but 11.50 for a six year old to eat two slices of pizza wasn’t exactly inviting to go again! Wouldn’t recommend unfortunately

Our granddaughter wanted to try this restaurant out so we offered to accompany her. The restaurant is clean and bright and staff welcoming and efficient. The food is plentiful and varied but I found it quite bland compared to other good local take-aways and no comparison to quality restaurants. I suspect everything is made as inexpensively as possible to maximise a return on the fixed price buffet setup. I suppose it's good value if, like many I witnessed, you just want to over-eat on a budget! Popular with families with kids whom it caters for.

Restaurant looks lovely and was very clean. Staff were friendly. Was a little disappointed with the choice of food. A lot of it wasn’t typical Chinese food. We chose here as we wanted Chinese food and was only luke warm. The one chow mein was dry and looked like it had been there a while. Some of the other bits were over cooked. There was a little selection of deserts and sweets as well as some fruit. Definitely not as full as the pictures they use to advertise. Maybe it’s different on a weekend. It’s very expensive for what it is. I think £14.99 would be more reasonable based on the selection of food. We won’t return as it’s put us off

This was my favourite Chinese restaurant before it became a buffet. Tried the buffet and very disappointed. For the price you pay you would expect everything to be fully stocked. A few scraps of crispy chicken, a couple of chips. No duck left, no dim sum in the pots. My favourite items from the old menu not available. E.g salt & pepper chicken and bbq sauce. Would not return. A shame as we celebrated every occasion there when it was a restaurant and told everyone how amazing it was!

Booked a table for four of us for 7.30 on Saturday 13th April. When arrived they didn't have our booking, lady was pleasant and found us a seat. Place was very clean and decorated nicely. Food was absolutely shocking, on several occasions me and my partner asked was food coming out, as nearly all trays was empty. She explained fresh food was coming out which we didn't mind waiting. Still waited and no fresh food. I've never wrote a review, but felt this was needed. Please avoid as you will be disappointed. Best part of it was the glass bottle of coke.

A really nice little all you can eat in Cwmbran, extremely clean and really well present. Staff were very accommodating and friendly. There was a good selection of food considering we came at 8:30pm. Dessert were very nice. Some of the fried dishes were a little crispy and chew but other than that we had a nice meal. I would say for £22.99 it’s a little expensive for a small Buffett but saves a trip to Cardiff.

First visit as recommended but sadly didn't meet expectations. Place is done out beautiful and modern and was spotlessly clean. Walked in and was asked to pay straight away which was a little odd but OK and asked what drinks we wanted which was a bit awkward as stood there holding up others waiting to come in so quickly just ordered cokes as not sure what was available. We booked in not long after opening hoping the food was fresh and hot as buffets can be hit and miss and unfortunately this was a miss for £22.99 each. Selection seemed to be good at first but I was barely warm all of it. Duck and the chicken satay was dry and rubbery with no taste all the flavour was from the sauces the Cantonese style chicken was probably the best but again barely warm. We don't expect buffets to be pipping hot as you know what your going it to but food was just not nice at that temperature or texture . Chocolate fountain with Marshmallows and aldi snicker bars and mawams for the kids and sweets. Overall disappointed which is sad as we were really looking for a nice local Chinese . Toilets were set out a bit strange aswell you walk through the men's wash basin area to get to the ladies nothing bad but just strange.

We had a nice meal food very good but the biggest problem was all the food was cold which was a pity as the choice was very good there was 8 of us and all said we would not go again I looked forward to going and was disappointed staff very good

Unfortunately was very disappointed. The staff were nice and the place was clean but for the price it is not worth the money. 1 side of the buffet wasn't even working and we still had to pay full price. I was mainly looking forward to dumplins and the chocolate fountian but sadly there were no dumplings and the chocolate fountain tasted like expired bitter chocolate. I was also left feeling sick in the end because towards the end of my meal, I saw unaccompanied young children putting their fingers in the chocolate fountain, they were also licking the chocolate off their marshmallows and sticking them back in the fountain. I also had to ask for more napkins as they don't provide more than 1 napkin per person and they don't offer clean cutlery, they only provide you with 1 fork and spoon to use the whole time and don't even provide a knife. For the same price I'd much rather make the trip down to Cardiff to the World Buffet as they have much more selection and table service. For a cheaper buffet I'd pick Tiffins any day, I know they are Indian not Chinese but they are much better value for money and the staff are amazing and so accommodating. The food was also all cold. The only good thing about the food was the chocolate cake. Normally when I go to a buffet I would have at least 3 plates of a variety of different foods, at this buffet I only had 1 and a half plates of food I couldn't even finish. I would not go here again and would not recommend it to others unless they change their prices.

Visited this restaurant this evening with friends.Very clean restaurant, amazing food, massive portions, served by Jade who made us feel very welcome, we couldn't ask for better service.

(Takeaway review) Expensive for poor quality food. Decent chips but their Chinese food disappoints. Tasteless, oily curry and dry, hard rice that seems to have been sat under a hot lamp for some time. Will stick with the cheaper, better quality Kam Fu in Fairwater in future.

Jade was the best host during my visit she was really helpful with everything so polite and friendly will definitely be going back

Fast delivery. I ordered chicken chow mein and I got beef chow mein which I don't like. Chicken curry wasn't very flavour full. chicken was a breast on the bone witch I didn't notice on the menu. I would have rathered off the bone. This was mistake.

Very solid Chinese takeaway when there are lots of mediocre takeaways in Cwmbran. We don't order anything crazy when we eat Chinese food but what we do get is always good. Staff really friendly. Quick collection.

Tonight, I went to Golden Gate for the second time ever with the work team & it did not disappoint at all! The service was great from all the staff, especially the waitress who took care of us (not sure what her name was, blonde hair, young, tall) 😅 I'm definitely coming back again! 10/10!

We stumbled across this hidden gem for the first time this evening and we were very impressed. From the moment we entered the restaurant we were very impressed. The look and feel of the restaurant was very welcoming, the decor is fantastic, modern, clean, bright and fresh. I love the little seating booths and the layout. We were seated in our own section with a large table and wheel to spin the dishes round on. The waitress (who is also the owner) was welcoming and explained everything clearly. We chose to have the buffet and she helped us get started, recommending different starters for us. We over ordered on the mains purely because it was our first time and underestimated the portion sizes so we know for next time not to order as much. The food was delicious and didn't take long to come out. Will definitely eat here again!!

Wow! This place is beautiful inside. We have had a takeaway and always been pleased so thought we would try and dine in - we loved it! It has been decorated to a high standard and looks stunning. Staff were super friendly and helpful with helping us chose as we wanted to try something new. The portions were massive!!! and the staff gave us tubs to be able to take it home with us. We tell everyone about it and go here for family occasions.

I had 2 lots of chips on their own, with a carton of gravy and a carton of curry. I then had omelette and chips separately. The whole meal was a disaster, the chips tasted and looked like they were last nights, they were hard. The omelette disgusting. With wet soggy chips on top. I will not buy from there again in my life, it was so unappetising and a complete waste of time and money.

Food was great and our server was lovely. However some other staff members were rude towards our server. This was completely was undeserved, as she was doing a great job. You rudely dismissed and rushed our server away from not only our table, but other tables as well, for unknown reasons. Treating your workers with basic respect should not have to be said. Please train your staff to have some decorum and respect all staff including those who do not share the same ethnic background.

We visited last night 17 May for the first time, food was fantastic, it was very busy in there so drinks service a little slow, but what made our night was the delightful Ruby who served us, she was so friendly, helpful & just made us smile, will definitely be back & hopefully get Ruby again, she is definitely an asset to you

The meal we ordered, was excellent! Collection was fast each dish wash piping hot, the flavours we're so delicious and the sauces we're to die for. So for us the Golden Gate Restaurant and Takeaway is our choice everytime.

always have a good service everytime we eat here. the food is lovely, big portion and reasonable price. always accommodating if you have something to ask for. you can get sharer platters too.. and if you're not able to finish your food you can ask for it to take it home. the place is always clean. few booths if you want reservation and decent amount of tables around. the outside also have table and chairs for summer evenings or just waiting for your take aways to be done. ample parking space which is great.

Lovely place. Food was delicious. The manager was amazingly helpful - advised us we had ordered too much food for the four of us, and she was right. She could have let us order and pay for two lots of some dishes, but she didn't. Excellent customer service.

Had a lovely meal, plenty of choice but portions are large! Been renovated really nicely & we sat in a booth for 4. Was served by one of the owners & she was lovely & very helpful. They haven't done any advertising as yet. They have nothing to do with the Chinese restaurant that was there previously. Will definitely go again but will take her advice re portion sizes 🤣

Had a big pig out with all family for bank holiday weekend. Can't beat this Chinese good flavours and always hot on delivery and friendly delivery drivers. Good on delivery times. Not well presented on my plate as would have been in restaurant but defo recommended to other people. Always used this Chinese for as long as I can remember.

Absolutely fantastic 40th Birthday for my wife. The food was outstanding and the staff couldn't do enough for us. 100% recommended. Thanks to all at Golden Gate Restaurant for making the evening a very special one.

I would absolutely recommend this restaurant. Went on a Sunday night with work colleagues and had the "all you can eat menu"". Make no mistake this restaurant will feed you great Chinese food and then feed you more and then keep on feeding you great food. Be careful not to over order as they prefer you not to waste food, finish and order more. I haven't been on an ordinary night but I don't imagine the food will be any different than excellent. Just go, you won't be disappointed.

Horrible gressey white chips , watery beef curry worse Chinese takeout I seen £35 and food was tastless an very gressey , definitely need some food improvements or new chef maby , 1st time I've had take away from here and would have to be desperate to have another one to be honest .

Fantastic. Went with a group of friends, the service was great and the food even better. The food was tasty and reasonable priced. This is really good for cwmbran to have a Chinese restaurant.

Loved it! Yummy food and excellent value for money. We only had mains as was too full for desserts. A range of alcoholic and soft beverages.

Lovely food, very generous portions, friendly staff

Really good food but very confusing 'buffet' which is really just an open food tab with £22.99 bill at the end (not including dessert). Ours came to less so was charged just for what we had which was kind of them. Very polite and very friendly waitress but SO slow the meal took an age (3 1/2 hours) and waiting for drinks, fresh cutlery and crockery was very disorganised. Wasn't that busy either. If you have plenty of time the food is really fantastic quality but severely let down by the friendly but woefully inefficient service.

Just had a meal here and have to say excellent service and excellent food. Definitely be back again. Well here's an update, first time was really good and the next 3 weren't fantastic but okay but the last time we took our son for his 30th and it was appalling. Food was less than average and customer service was awful. Phoned the next day to give feedback and manager was extremely rude. NEVER will we go back there again, no wonder its always empty if this is the way customers are treated.

First time at the restaurant( old kings head pub) great building lovely decor and the food is second to none. Tasty and the portions are really good. If you want a great sit down it’s superb and the take out attatched too must be good. Buffet Monday to Thursday and weekend as ordered from extensive menu. Will definitely be back 5*

Possibly the tastiest Chinese ever. I went on.a Monday evening in February. Early. There was no one else in. They have a nice car park and an outdoor seating area that is very quaint. The place has s restaurant entrance and a take away entrance. The decor is superb with lots of bright lighting and. Classy looking cutlery , table clothes and plates. The menu was s double sided menu that you marked on with a board marker and handed to the waitress. She was very polite and attended in good time. I had Chinese green tea which turned out to be free. Prawn crackers also. The hot and spicy soup was large in size , plenty of taste and quite spicy ! The prawn dumplings were great although I ask for some soy sauce to add a little texture. The mixed udon noodles were really tasty with every part of the dish tasty and perfect texture from the slices of beef to the squid. Again s good sized portion. Words cannot describe the wide range of flavours and textures. It was perfect. Possibly one of the best Chinese meals I have had. I will be back, you should go.

Food from the Golden Gate was the blandest Chinese food I've ever come across. Watery sauces and what looked like spam in the house chow mein. Rude staff, disappointing customer service and below average food quality.

Terrible takeaway tonight. Ordered shrimp chow mein, prawn dumplings, chips and curry sauce. The food was cold, the chow mein was like watery gloop, the chips were dried up and tasteless and the dumplings were inedible. Worst takeaway I've ever had.

Went there for a family meal on New Year's Day. The restaurant was very quiet but the food and service were excellent. Very generous portions, very good quality. At £20 a head to eat as much as you want, it was excellent value. We will definitely go back again
