Just moved into the local area. We had heard great things and thought we would give Golden city a try. We were not disappointed and we will be returning. Collection was quick and hassle free. Very friendly and welcoming.

Everything burnt to a crisp. BBQ spare ribs dry as a bone. Prawn toast, salt and pepper chips and chicken balls dripping in grease, sweet and sour sauce congealed. Spring rolls passable. Will never use again!

good food and speedy delivery. only issue was burnt fried chicken and the curry sauce wasn't as good as other places. other than that probably the best in the area.

chips were cold and very dry but I've never has a good portion of chips here anyway. Foo young was ok but nearly cold too.

I order from this place regularly with my partner and family. This time , I’m extremely appalled. The food arrived cold, and mainly veg. The driver only arrived 10 mins late but the food was ice cold. The next day I had D and V, shocking. Unfortunately lost long standing customers. Gutted.

Not tasty, not fresh - we had ribs, honkong chicken and shredded beef, all meats were long after their prime, chewy and dried out. Almost 2 hours to deliver.

Curry was just full of onions. And not much flavour. Chips were over cooked as if they’d cooked them 3 times over. Chicken balls were solid.

Pre ordered for my food to arrive at 7:30, miraculously AFTER I submitted my food was late the time changed to 8pm saying it was being prepared! It wasn’t clearly as my food arrived cold!

Not too late delivery, but when the driver arrived she was sullen and thrust the bag at me with barely a word. I'd called the restaurant to ask if it was on the way as it had been logged as "on it's way" for nearly half an hour and then it ran over. I was assured it had only recently left the restaurant and traffic was to blame (we're a 5 minute walk away). Being a Friday evening, I didn't press and sure enough, it arrived a few minutes later. The food actually wasn't particularly warm, let alone hot, plus one of the dishes had exploded in the bag and covered everything. The Sweet and Sour sauce stained my fingers orange when I took it out the bag, suggesting food colouring is used. The Lemon Chicken was chewy on the outside, hardly cut into pieces, batter was overcooked and when I peeled some back on the leftovers the chicken looked freezer burnt. It all actually tasted OK, and portion sizes are good, but the chicken texture was really unpleasant. There was something bright orange in with it and I discovered it was a piece of pork (I have photos). Food hygiene standards a concern, but we had already eaten. The prawns were fine (I hope - we'll find out tomorrow). Egg Fried Rice fine. Was debating one or two stars, as it isn't the worst I've ever had and I've ordered from them before, but the poor food hygiene standards I can't forgive. I don't like feeling nervous for my child's and my health after a meal.

Really poor quality meals that ended up in the bin. Definitely not chicken or beef in either of the dishes but the veggies appeared ok.

Slightly perturbed redaing reviews but decided to give delivery a go. Food arrived on time, was hot and tasty. Not oily either. Prices reasonable and would happily return.

Sadly won’t eat from here again. I’m not usually compelled to write reviews but maybe it’ll help improve the quality of the food which was at best not very nice and worst - disgusting. Worse Chinese we have ever had and will go elsewhere. Tasteless, soggy and cold by the time we got it home. Really disappointed after spending over £40. Wish we had the read the reviews before ordering. :(

I don't understand the negative reviews because I can honestly say I've just had the best Chinese I've tasted in a very long time! Chicken Chow Mein was beautiful, quarter chicken and chips... the chips were lush! The quarter chicken I always order every where for my cat and I have the chips lol. The food was hot on delivery also. Thank you very much! Will be ordering from here the next time I have a Chinese takeaway.

Food was absolutely disgusting would never ever oder from here again

1 star is generous. Messed order up over phone, then when we got it back, no noodles with special, no fresh chilli's or onion with salt n pepper chips and chicken, even though menu says so, all the deep fried food tasted of prawn, so guessing oil is not clean, neither was the shop collection area. Curry sauce was terrible. First and last time used.

I'm not sure where to start other than awful. We had the chicken curry which came pale red (more pink) hardly any chicken (the chicken had been pashed into an inch of his it's life) no flavour at all, overcooked and solid rice. Gristle running through the chicken balls (apparently they buy the pre prepped chicken, which is a rubbish excuse if you ask me) When I took everything back to the takeaway I was told they tried the curry and it was ansum and firey.....I think they need to think again as it was Niether. I was told the rice isn't over cooked it's just where it has been in the tub. Oh and when you hear the sound of microwaves pinging then it's no wonder it was dreadful. Will never return, should of read the reviews before we went. Can't wait for new Hong sing to reopen when they are back off holiday. However the delivery guy was nice

Ordered through just eat and was told it would be around an hour. No problem. An hour and a half later I’m wondering where it is. Leave it another half an hour… Still no food. Called the restaurant and was told it would be another half an hour! I can only assume they didn’t see it because if this is the standard wait time then I don’t know how they plan on staying in business. The food eventually turned up, nearly 3 hours after placing an order. Ribs were nice, rice was weirdly crumbly and tasted like oil which was the base for everything else so not enjoyable. Won’t order again and wouldn’t recommend

Walked in, just before 9.30, and a guy told me they had just closed (signs say they close at 10PM, but whatever) I said OK and turned around to walk out. Just before I could open the door the same guy asked me what I wanted!? I ordered a fried rice, and he relayed the order to the kitchen. I was then asked by the girl on the till "cash or card?". I said card, and then the guy who told me they had closed interrupted and demanded the girl on the till not to process my card, because "it would cost them £2 to process it". I mean, I don't really get any of this exchange. So I turned around and left. I will never go back to this place, they are very odd.

Waited TWO HOURS and still it didn’t arrive. Had 3 kids to feed- No word from them, no apology for it being late, no reason why. Had to cancel it in the end. Will NEVER order from here again.

Sweet and sour sauce was extremely runny and tasted of vinegar! The “crispy noodles” with duck was soft and not crispy at all. The duck was very fatty and looked like a hey used the bits of the duck that only a cat would eat! Will not be buying from this place again! Angry and HUNGRY!

Mum and partner ordered a beef curry with NO onions and Noodles with NO beansprouts a month or so ago and as pictured arrived containing both! They decided this evening to give them another chance and their rice has arrived with an added extra of A SLUG! Absolutely repulsive. In my own experience ordering over the phone has proven hard work as the girl answering is rude: The only good thing about this place is the lovely bloke who delivers for them.

This "takeaway" is an absolute joke! Ordered at 6.15 for a 45-60 minute delivery, chased up 5 times from 75 minutes later, four times was told our meal was on the way, had just left, was with the driver, nearly 2 hours later they had the nerve to deny they had even taken my order even thought the little girl had read it back to me! This isnt the first time it's happened! Do yourself a favour, order somewhere else!

Wouldn't have any food from here if it came for FREE. It's over priced, not edible and the customer service from the cockney owner is only for the less primitive people of this world. Love the threats. said there under new management. AVOID AVOID AVOID.

Terrible place, I have had to wait over 2 hours for food from this place before, rang 3 times and every time told it was on its way which was complete rubbish, the next time we ordered (I'm not sure what possessed me to order from them again tbh) they served us raw chicken, then when I rang them to tell them they argued with me about it and then told me I'd have to drop it off for a refund, I told them 'no this is not how it works, you send your delivery driver around to pick it up' so they could see it was indeed raw (I wasn't even bothered about the refund just wanted for them to see that they could make someone really ill from the food they were serving) anyway they never turned up and couldn't care less about giving their customers food poisoning, I would 100% advise people to avoid this place

Just had food delivered .. sent the wrong food and was told that if we wanted to change to correct order we had to come and do it yourselfs... being homebound was why we got a delivery....

Possibly the dirtiest place I’ve ever been in. If I hadn’t ordered and paid for the food online I would have carried on walking straight past. Half eaten and spat out baguette on the window sill, a group of maskless teenagers “hanging out” in the waiting area. Served by a lady with a snotty toddler on her hip while the other lady also had her other partially dressed toddler on her hip. I say partially dressed as the toddler had thrown the rest of her clothes around the waiting area in some form of super tantrum. I didn’t know wether the hygiene certificate had fallen off the wall or they had hid it due to the lack of stars.

Do not order a Takeaway from this restaurant. Last weekend we ordered following a recommendation from a friend. They feature on Just Eat and so felt some re-assurance. However, could not order on their site due to us being 4 miles from the premises and the limit being set at 2 miles. We called and spoke with an English speaking lady who placed the order and told us one hour. No problem, it was 17:30 so would not be too late. 19:00 came and still no food. Chased and the lady developed sudden amnesia and, in fact order was just coming now and could not recall the hour conversation. Food arrived 'Luke' warm and when my young daughter cut into her crispy chicken ball it was raw. We then inspected the other chicken balls and they were raw as well. We called the takeaway and the female we spoke to earlier offered no apology or solution. In the end she advised us that 'all the food' had to be returned and they would send the deliver driver to collect. However, the expectation was that we stay in all night for him to come as she could not say when. We have young children and needed to eat. In the end we took the food back to the restaurant in person. The confirmed the food was raw, offered absolutely no apology and simply refunded the money we paid. We reported the incident to environmental health and the restaurant informed the officer that they could not recall us as customers or the issue. I have, of course provided phone records of the 7 minute call made to report the raw food to them. Had they been honest, accepted the error and recognised the real risk this posed to our health maters could have progressed. However, instead they continue to be dishonest. Raw chicken is completely unacceptable and I urge anyone to simply go elsewhere.

Absolutely terrible experience, our meal eventually turned up over two hours late (even the delivery driver was embarrassed )when I rang up to explain that it was cold ,was told that because we had put it in the microwave as we were starving ,they were prepared to do nothing,,,,,not even apologise,,,,,never ever again ,,,,Deplorable doesn't even come close

Delivery was half an hour late after an hour delivery window. When the food arrived it was cold. Call up the girl on the phone was very rude and dismissive. She said if we hadn't opened it they would re-cook it. I said that we had opened it how would we know it was cold with out opening it. I think they want it unopened so they can microwave it instead of cooking fresh food. She got progressively dismissive. Then after arguing she refused to replace or refund the order. I contacted just eat and got a refund through them. She doesn't deserve a job in customer service. I have spent hundreds of pounds over the last few years ordering from there the food is normally great. After that terrible service I will not be ordering from there again.

Ordered at 17.25 ,eta 18.30 . Had a phone call at 1855 to say the order had been dropped off at my doorstep , upon checking front and back door nothing to be found , phoned the delivery lady to be told she had delivered to the wrong address !!! Eventually turned up stone cold after sitting on someone else’s doorstep .. sent back to restaurant for order to be re cooked. Finally arrived at 20.10 , think it had only been reheated !!! Will never use again .. I would rather STARVE ..

Discusting customer service got told 1 hour to 1 and half hours no problem I waited 3 hours still not arrived lost a customer her the funny thing is I live less than half a mile away ? No discount offered cancelled order at door waste my time I waste yours.

Appalling customer service. Placed an order at 6:30pm, delivery was scheduled for 7:45pm. At 8:15pm I called the restaurant and spoke to a girl who told me our order was on it's way. Waited almost a further hour and called again at 9:02pm - the same girl told me the order was on it's way and once it had left the restaurant it wasn't her problem. I told her it was her problem because I hadn't received it yet and asked if she could contact the delivery driver - she told me they don't have good phone reception in the restaurant and they don't have the numbers of any of their delivery people. When I questioned that, given that we were talking on a landline number and I failed to believe that any takeaway business wouldn't have the contact details of their delivery drivers, she told me I was hassling her as she was only a 15 year old girl and she shouldn't have to answer 90 calls a day from so many people being mean to her... I said I was simply asking where my order is. She then decided I had called her a liar and threatened to end the call. I saved her the hassle and hung up myself. It's now 9:23pm and we're still waiting for our food.... UPDATE at 10:10pm - phoned the restaurant 2 more times, my partner spoke to the same girl this time. First time she said she put it in the bag herself, it was on its way and that she was just an 18 year old girl trying to do her job. Second time she told him it was still with them and hadn't been cooked yet. When my parter questioned it, she falsely accused him of calling her names and calling her a liar. He said he was sorry to hear that and hadn't called her any names, but when we have been told it was on its way and now told it hadn't even been cooked yet, then we had clearly been lied to. She said she had other things to do and couldn't spend all her time talking to him on the phone so hung up. He called back and said he thought he had just been hung up on, she said no she hadn't, and when he said the call was disconnected, she said "oh yeah I did hang up on you because you were rude to me. He said he was just asking her where our food was, and she hung up again. We will most certainly be avoiding this takeaway like the plague from now on. Absolutely disgraceful customer service and now resorting to toast for dinner as we're too tired to cook!

Food was nearly 2 hours late and on delivery, part of our order was missing. We then had to wait another 20 minutes for chips to be delivered. When telephoned to complain, the young girl had a terrible attitude, stating she can people who complain!!!. Shane because it's nice food shame the staff forget we contribute to their wages

Ordered at 6.50pm, at 9.20pm it said delivered, on my just east app, on a 8.10pm delivery time. It was not. We had already rung the restaurant at 8.40pm and they said it was being sent now. This is not good enough. And if my food was ready at 8.40 then it was certainly going to be cold on arrival. Arrived at 9.34pm. Rice was cold, had to be microwaved. Other bits were just like warm. Customer service, over the phone, stinks. Will not use again. Sorry. Have been a repeat customer but this has gradually got worse over last few times.

Meal ordered at 5:30pm, due for delivery at 6:45pm. Meal is currently over an hour late at this point and still hasn't arrived. Telephone the golden house and spoke with someone who was actually dismissively rude and lacks customer service skills, or communication skills you'd expect from anyone, let alone a person answering the phone at a restaurant. Most certainly I do not recommend this takeaway for its customer service!! Bitterly disappointed! I would rate it as zero stars if possible.

Ordered at 6.30pm for an 8pm delivery. Still hadn't shown up by 9.30pm. Loads of waffle on the phone about waiting for the delivery driver. Quick to cancel the order showing food was never ready anyway! Would never use again.
