Golden Chip in Moyle

Went last Sunday and found it the place to have shockingly bad customer service and downright rude to various customers including myself. One person asked about their order only to be presented with it although they’d never actually called out the order. The member of staff (dark hair female with tattoos) claimed it was ready minutes ago but forgot to call it out as she was busy and maintained it was warm when asked how long it had been sitting there. I along with another customer waited quite a while to even order and when i politely asked could I order was asked “can’t you see we’re very busy?”. Needless to say they weren’t busy with my order or the person beside me as he walked out too. Another customer actually shook his head in disgust at hearing this. The food does look decent and popular and im sure they won’t miss the £65 I ended up giving Branagans Chippy but someone needs to have a word about customer service.

I work in customer service and I was completely blown away with the poor customer service at this takeaway. No interest in the customer, no smile and everything too much trouble! When I asked for a plastic fork you’d think I’d asked for a takeaway for free, the horror on the assistants face was comical! The food was cooked fresh however I felt 10 minutes to make two chip butties was a tad too long! The butty was toasted and filled with a generous portion of chips but I’m being honest when I say it wasn’t enjoyable to eat due to the roll being so dry. This chip shop doesn’t use butter, £4.20 for a dry role and chips in my opinion is very expensive and not worth the 10 minute wait! Would I return no I don’t think so😢

Without a doubt the best chip cheese curry I’ve ever experienced in my life. Couldn’t recommend this chippy Moore if I tried. My friends cat ran away cause we were so excited about this chipppy. Avoid do not go near food absolutely disgusting over priced.. fish was like a batterd flip flop no fish in it and what was said to be fish it wasn't don't waste ur time or money in this place

Lovely tasty food with friendly staff,and very clean

The food was absolutely awful, the chicken nuggets were like canteen food from a primary school, seen better in Iceland, nothing but processed. The garlic sauce on the chips would’ve been safer called garlic water as it was soo watery and swimming in sauce. Chips were also rotten. Also over priced!

The worst place where I've ever order food. Lady that was serving was shouting at people, was getting wrong orders, was not compliant with safety food regulations. Not only my opinion. Please avoid if you have the option!

Myself & partner went for drive round the coast and stopped in Bally castle for chippy, this is our second time here, first time we got two chicken burgers and curry chips with cheese and tub pepper sauce, today was second time and got the same order.. food was absolutely outstanding! Pepper sauce best I’ve ever tried! Definitely be back again… beautiful 👏🏻

We have a tradition, on our first night up in ballycastle we get a “golden chip”. It’s something we did when my mammy was alive and now she’s gone it’s a comfort, a reminder of the happy times! Thanks for the great memories!

After picking up the order came home and it was wrong, rang down and never even got a sorry or anything, went back to collect rest of order and the girl tried to charge us AGAIN. The chips were awful and the burger must have been cooked yesterday 😕

Staff very friendly n food first class n we wouldnt go anywhere else in Ballycastle(we would give it more stars if we could)

Awful first of all order wrong my son picked it up so he payed £22 for food I didn't order mine would have been about £8 we live seven miles away so wouldn't go back but the stuff they send was uneatable dog won't even eat it wish I had went to flash in pan as usual

Food was freshly cooked to order. Staff were pleasant and extremely helpful. Prices are very reasonable.

The food here is nice. We went twice whilst in ballycastle. The first time we ordered 2 sausages fir the kids and it literally came as just 2 sausages and not even a svoop of chips. 2nd time we did get some chips, so I can only assume it depends on who serves you. Burgers are nice. Very small fryer for such a busy chippy

The food was lovely and most of the staff were friendly. However the boss/manager/lady in charge was very rude on our visit here.

Very slow.no organisation. Not fresh food as I would have expected fresh fish from a coastal town. Only thing that was nice was the cold bottle of coke😩

Customer service was very poor, very rude down the phone, I cancelled an order as I rang the wrong place, and rang them back 1 minute after the phone call, they wanted me to pay for the order with food I never good and asked for my personal details. Disappointed

Fancied fish and chips whilst visiting Ballycastle and was not disappointed!! Excellent, friendly and polite service and the food was delicious! Possibly the best curry sauce I’ve ever tasted!!

I dont know we're to start, brutal food worst battered sausages I've seen.... The scotch egg musta been in freezer about 16 weeks! Fish wasn't too bad but awful grub all round given i came to eat in mortons and what's available up the road......

Had food out of here today,first of all the girls were very uninviting dont think I witnessed a smile,1 of girls hair not tied up and both girls with not a hat on,food appearance didn't look to appetising esp the chips and nuggets the nuggets were cheap and frozen looked like they wer bought out of iceland horrible ,but chips tasted ok,although half of the chips were threw out as there was alot of crumbs,ends and jaggy bits in them,wouldn't go here again

The service was fine, order was taken promptly and took around 10-15 mins. The food was a disappointing. Frozen chips and I would say the oil needed changed. Not pleasant and I wouldn't return

Entering the shop I should have turned back immediately. If looks could kill clearly not happy campers in their work place. You’d need a rather sharp knife to cut through the atmosphere never mind the chips! Over priced, over cook not worth it

Terrible service, terrible food. Counter staff member had a face on her throughout. Chicken goujons looked like something from a frozen multipack and was 5 for £6.80. Curry sauce tasted plastic, chips were frozen chips from a bag. Avoid.

Golden Chip, not even bronze chip. Didn't get as far as tasting their food, though I did get to view it while being totally ignored by the knuckle draggers behind the counter before bailing out. If you want frozen chips and battered chipolata sausages then this appears to be the place for you. If you hate yourself, go here.

My husband and I went in here for chips - first glance food looked poor quality and expensive for what it was, however we'd had a long day and were hungry. Lady in front of us served as soon as she went in (although service not delivered with a smile for her!) and we were then promptly ignored - not even a 'we'll be with you in a minute'. So guess what, we quickly got fed up of being ignored (by no less than 3 people after 10 minutes) and took our business elsewhere! Golden Chip - miserable chip!

Not a fan to be honest. Once went in for chips only and was ignored for some time then others were served before me. Altho others love the food.

Had a chicken fillet burger here 2weeks ago- was def the nicest I’ve ever tasted, so fresh. Hubby had a fish supper which he enjoyed. I tasted some chips and again they were perfect. Salt, vinegar, napkins, knives and forks were all supplied with our order. Although it was very busy, the staff were very friendly and helpful . Wish I lived nearer.

Went to the golden chip chippy for something to take out. When I went in the 2 women working was not welcoming at all. Very cheeky and wasn't helpful at all. Ordered £28 worth of the food and wanted to change 1 item and they refused. They also took very long in making the order and kept serving people who was ordering after me. Staff then picked her phone up and was on it while customers were wanting to order. The food was very dry and chips were under cooked. Its also expensive! Stay away. There are better chippys in ballycastle and not far from this location!

During lockdown we have used the Golden Fry several times. The food has been lovely and the staff friendly. They have a maximum 3 people allowed in the shop so preordering is best.

Sike - there won’t be a next time!!! I feel ill after eating half my fish - surprisingly the goujons were eadible but side effects could kick in later. Won’t be returning

The person answering the phone was extremely rude and the food was honestly the worst thing ive ever had. It was binned. My dog went hungry instead of getting the remains..

Honestly the worst chicken goujons I have ever had. Basically frozen chicken nuggets straight from Iceland’s shelves (see photo). This combined with chips, drink and dip was over £9. Horrendous value and terrible quality.

Good chippy with all the usual chippy specials. Friendly staff and good value for money. Right in the centre of the town so quite handy.

Great burgers with homemade coleslaw

This is one of my favourite chip shops in North Antrim. The food is cheap, quick and extremely high-quality for takeaway food. The staff are always very helpful, and the place seems to be very well managed & organised. The opening hours, too are excellent.

Conveniently open later than other places, this place had good fish and chips although no place to eat them (Take them down to the benches at the harbor).

We got Fish and chips from here while staying in town. It was nice! Chips were really nice, fish seemed fresh and well cooked no issues. We got something from Mortons famous chippy a few days later and we both said Golden Chip was nicer actually! Good job

DISGUSTED!! I could go into detail about the ginger hair i found in my food, that by way, was standard to say the least. But I've never had such abysmal service or mistreatment in my life. I came from the holiday resort nearby and given my accent, am clearly not from Ballycastle. I've never lacked manners and as a customer here, that remained true. But the disrpesect I received was unbelievable with the employees bickering behind the counter about me.

Can’t say I’ve been to many chippies that do not cook their fish fresh. A shame considering it’s coastal location.Everything is cooked to order, so the wait time was around 15 minutes. Was pretty surprised to see our fish, frozen and pre-battered being dropped in the fryer.That said the taste was ok, but this is not the place if you want traditional fresh fish and chips.

Speedy service, not badly priced, big portions. Chips are fresh, dry and crispy on the outside fluffy on the inside. Friendly staff too

Called in late after a long day touring the area, can only judge on the fish supper, it was okay but only average, think the other options would have been better.

I went in with my friend and they usually have good waiting times but people were walking in after us and ordering!! It took ten minutes to get our food ordered then another ten minutes pass and we only ordered ONE large chip!

Fish and chips were freshly cooked, batter on the fish was crispy and very tasty, as was the fish itself, served up by a beautiful young woman who even put me on to a great source for curry sauce.

I spent a month in Ireland, and ate fish and chips every day. The Golden Chip had the best fish and chips on the island. I would drive an hour out of the way just to eat there again. Fair warning, though, this is a take-out place. No chairs or tables.

Not impressed stood for 10 mins while staff faffed about, the older lady was less than pleasant when I finally did get served, won’t be back

We have been using the Golden Chip for over 30years and the quality, speed of service and sausages are to die for. This is the one the locals use. When you have had a hard day on the farm and are as hungry as a hound this is the place to go. You can also eat in if you dont want the car smelling of chips...!!

Went today for a Sunday drive and decided to call in for a chippy dinner. Very well priced for what we got and very dry no grease which we liked. Food was just ok, well cooked and presented well but food seemed to be lacking in something.

I don't know if we were unlucky with the two places we ate out, standards fall as prices go up on Lammas Fair weekend. We ordered a chicken fillet burger and a quarter pound cheese burger. Chicken burger was grand but the beef burger was cold. Good portion of chips to share.

Food fired out no care or attention..Chips reheated poor quality and in peak season avoid this place.

Tried ringing my order in, user busy for over 15 mins. On arriving one of the girls working was rude and giving attitude. Phone appeared to be off the hook. Good quality food just a shame about the service

Cena pescado y pastie dieron bap para sentarse en un sábado muy lluvioso. La comida era adorable, pero no hacer cualquier bebidas calientes y no puedes tener una cena de pescado sin una taza de té. También no hay pan y mantequilla para chip butties. Sólo hamburguesa panecillos. No es el mismo. La última queja. La comida se sirve en el polysterene llevar envases con cuchillos de plástico y tenedores que no corte el pescado. Mi punto es no ofrecen un servicio si sentarse en mayo así comer en tu coche!

Una vez utilizado este lugar y no volveré! Patatas fritas bien, no excelente, el pescado era horrible. No puedo describir lo malo que nunca! También se ordenó una hamburguesa. Había sido puesto junto con tanta delicadeza como sobre un baile de ballet de vaca!!!! La hamburguesa estaba recocido y parecía algo como de cartón. La orden también estaba equivocado. Cometí el error de tener llevar (ir allí en primer lugar fue un error) y viven demasiado lejos para llevar. Muy, muy decepcionados!

Was in for the aul Lammas fair weekend and even though staff were under so much pressure they were very kind and helpful!! In particular one staff member "Cliana" I think her name was! A credit to this eatery and to Ballycastle

Fuimos en un viaje de un día con mi hermana por la costa y llamados a Ballycastle para cenar... Pedimos una cena de pescado fresco en el Golden, después de leer los comentarios... No me decepcionó!... El pescado estaba cocinado a la perfección con una masa delgada, las fichas no eran el típico "fish and chips", pero eran patatas fritas grasientas fresco y seco... Disfrutamos de nuestra cena de pescado y sin duda volveremos!!...

Curry es de patatas fritas son gran problema es que fry su oinions hasta sus más menos quemado, pero aparte de eso su gran 😊

Returning from Portrush after driving down the coast to see the Giants Causeway and needed something to eat. Saw this sign and stopped outside. Nice and clean, also quite busy, but we were served quickly and ate our meal in the small restaurant at the side of the takeaway. Massive fish and plenty of home cooked chips, fresh and piping hot. Reasonable prices too. Excellent and enough for the biggest appetite.

Its always a concern when you have an eatery such as this being run by very young staff. I have to say that unlike some of the other reviews the staff were polite in a minimalist kind of way but much of the food is pre-prepared. The fish and chips were OK but not a patch on Mortons. Chips were a bit soggy but tasted OK. My daughters chicken was better and quite tasty.

Came in on a Friday night to order food. Joined what wasn't a very clear queue, after around 10 mins of people's orders being taken who had come in after us, I approached the counter and was snapped at "join the end, over there" and she pointed to the people who had just come in the door. I told her that I had been waiting and she very rudely snapped "what?!". I turned on my heel and went out the door, without ordering food and went else where. Will NEVER be back here again! Staff here are horrible, staff here give Ballycastle a bad image.

We have ate here a few times and the staff have never been overly friendly! I rang to place a telephone order tonight and i asked the girl what was on a hawaiian burger. She answered me with a very sharp "everything"! How exactly does this explain to a customer what is on the burger? Obviously just could not be bothered to tell me what was on it! This has now put me off

Lovely freshly battered cod. Really enjoyed our takeaway. Would definitely recommend. Onion rings and chips ver nice too

We had my two older sisters out for a drive and a picnic recently when we had a notion of an old fashioned fish supper! What we had from Golden Chip was excellent and plenty of it as well. This was carried out and enjoyed at a carpark overlooking the sea near Marconi's Cottage. Would have no qualms about going back again.

A small eating in area.The fish and chips were well cooked, and a very large portion. Unless you have a large appatite one portion would do two people. We were out all day from early morning to late on and we were hungry, but struggled to finish it.It is Small but very clean and ideal for a carry out.

I have given this chip shop ample opportunities to change my opinion on their run of the mill, rude staff. I was in on Saturday night after I finished work to be welcomed by dirty looks and snappy questions. These staff members seem to forget that the costume in this chippy pays their bills. They also seem to be under the illusion they can give people cheek if they are in after a night out (also witnessed this when I was in). Absolute joke.

Very poor the fish I received was useful only to a cobbler who could to use as a replacement should the sole of my shoe come off. Soooo disappointed.

We ordered food here after a tiring trip to the Causeway and where really hungry. Our food was cooked fresh and a choice of add on's where available. We had meal deals and were pleased with our food. It tasted great!Very reasonably priced too. The lady who cooked our food made good conversation and helped me to my car with my food as I had a lot in my hands. Great, hot, fresh, fast food which is amazing after along weary day.

I have been to this chipper a few times. I love their fish and chips. The staff is friendly. They offer a variety of other foods besides fish. Don't missing going to this place while you are in Ballycastle.

Never will be back....to be treated so rudely by the lady owner when your a paying customer. And its not the first time. This chip shop would function better without attitudes like that behind their counter

Absolutely love this chippy. Chips are amazing and the chicken nuggets are lovely too. Very reasonably priced unlike some others. You can sit in or take out. Started going here instead of Mortons a few years ago. Nothing is ever greasy and the chips are never soggy.

This is by far the best chippy in Ballycastle. Consistently good chips, not soggy, cooked while you wait. Suggest their sausage supper, no trash in the sausages and nice dry chips. Fish is good too, better than Mortons who get all the press.

Went there for a takeaway. Chicken was ok but the chips were soggy. Not worth buying from there. Also, service pretty slow. Takes the word "fast" out of fast food!!

Fantastic chips - 10 times better than Mortons which gets all the popularity !!! Brilliant and ill be back next summer!!
