Goffs Oak Cheshunt in Broxbourne

I went to Goffs Oak a few weeks before Christmas with a group of friends for a Christmas meal, expecting a festive experience. Unfortunately, it was quite disappointing. We were given the Christmas menu upon arrival and ordered drinks while deciding on our meals amd waiting on friends. However, when we were ready to order, we were then told they had run out of turkey – the main dish associated with a Christmas meal. The pub wasn’t even busy, so it’s baffling how they were out of such a key item. We were surprised and initially thought it was a joke but it wasn't. They could have given us this info as they handed out the menu to set expectations. Then, when we received the bill, a service charge was included, despite the service being lacklustre at best. When I raised my disappointment about the experience with the staff taking the payment, their response was indifferent. They offered a half-hearted “sorry” that clearly lacked sincerity. Staff arent proactive with their service. It's a pub with potential but sadly it was an underwhelming experience. I wouldn’t recommend it for a festive meal.

Very comfortable environment with warm and welcoming staff. A great menu with quite a variety of offerings and food well prepared and presented!

Christmas eve meal was mixed experience with our 10 meals. Some were cold, one was over cooked and dry, others were fine. However, staff did try to accommodate.

I understand that Christmas Day can be a busy and challenging time for restaurants, but sadly, our experience at The Goffs Oak was extremely disappointing and far below what we expected for £100 per person (plus an additional £70 in service charges). From the outset, the service was rushed, inattentive, and unfriendly. Cutlery was unceremoniously dumped on the table, and no one bothered to check how our meal was at any point during or after service. When I asked to change my pre-ordered dessert, I was told there were no alternatives, despite six other desserts clearly being available. The food itself was another letdown. The scallops in the starter were raw and jelly-like, and the Brussels sprouts on the roast were raw rather than al dente. Speaking of the roast, the portion of vegetables was miserably small, and there was hardly any gravy to go with the oversized, under-crispy roast potatoes. Even when we requested more gravy, we were given an insufficient amount. Perhaps the most shocking aspect was the children’s meals. For £50 per child, they were served tiny portions with no vegetables at all – an oversight that’s unacceptable at any price point, let alone on Christmas Day. While I appreciate the staff were working on a holiday, they weren’t volunteering their time, and for the premium we paid, I expected a far higher standard of food and service. To add insult to injury, because payment was taken in advance, I felt trapped into accepting the poor experience without recourse. Had this not been the case, I would not have paid the full amount. Overall, The Goffs Oak has much to learn about providing a festive meal worthy of its price tag. It’s disappointing to feel let down on a day that’s supposed to be special, and I won’t be returning anytime soon.

Lovely pub and friendly staff been a few times for drinks and it's a lovely atmosphere here. I recommend. It's a cosy comfort feel.

I've had many meals and drinks here but today was a bit disappointing. I wasn't happy with the presentation of my drink and our starters came out at different times which could be down to the fact that there appeared to be skeleton staff working.

Great local pub. Beer is good. Service is wonderful. Not sure the food is priced for what it is but we enjoyed our, time there.

Today was our first time there and unfortunately it didn't live up to the expectations I know it's Xmas season and we didn't have a reservation, but if you can't deliver, it's best to say no, we are full. Waited over half hour to get our started and then another good 40mins for a cheeseburger and a linguine, which there were hardly any crab meat ( you needed a microscope to see a couple of strains and about 3 prawns, I wouldn't call them Kind Prawns either. As soon our meal was served I asked for some parmesan cheese and the manager got back - how hard is it to go to the kitchen and get some? Half hour later we pay the bill and left, desert was never offered and payment taken and off we went This pub has so much potential but definitely lacks attention and service could definitely improve. Would I go back - sure! I'd like to give it another go, it does look like a nice pub.

Great pub. I’ve seen people leave negative reviews as they would not serve underage children. This leaves me flabbergasted. As I father I glad the pub didn’t let these inadequate parents give alcohol to a minor. Thanks

Lovely food and friendly service

Food tasted ok, but not worth the price and there wasn't enough on the plate to either satisfy hunger or justify the price. I was still hungry after the meal. Waiter was nice but the service was slow. 3 hours for 2 courses is too long for me. Also, they don't allow 16/17 year-olds to have a drink with their meal. I'm not really comfortable with a business deciding they don't agree with the law and doing something else instead. Atmosphere was ok at first, but after about an hour a group of people arrived who thought a sentence wasn't complete unless it had at least three expletives. Didn't seem to bother them that there were several young children at the table next to them. Not a great experience to be honest.

Came here for food today with some friends and i couldn’t of been happier with the food, service and atmosphere. I was served by Sophia and she was very polite and attentive. Would fully recommend and will definitely be coming back soon.

I booked my cousins baby shower here and i couldn't of been more happy with my choice. The food is amazing and so were the team. Great value for money and a lovely pub. Highly recommended.

Had dinner here last night, whilst the food was excellent the service was dreadful. We seem to be served by trainees who were probably on their first day in the restaurant. Long waits between courses, plates not cleared or any offer of replenishing our drinks we would have spent more on drinks but nobody seemed interested. When main courses finally arrived no offer of sauces, again empty glasses no offer of drinks. They need to get their act together or they will loose lots of customers.

Very nice meal all around and coffee was really good.

The Sunday Roasts were excellent. The service was very friendly, but we waited 45 minutes for the food to come out.

OMG. The most fantastic meal, great service by friendly staff. Exceptional. Great food great prices. Beautiful relaxed restaurant and bar. 💯 % recommend.

A most enjoyable evening. The greeting on arrival was great. We had booked the Wine and Dine experience. But had to ask for the menu After receiving the starters in a reasonable time we had to wait over 45 minutes for our main meal.When asking the waitress if it would be much longer , we was told well you can see we are busy. I do wonder why that is a relevant answer. A little leadership on the floor would be a quick fix as I noticed 2 people having to leave their seats to find a waitress to ask for small items. As with a lot of restaurants the staff seem to have a place they feel safe in and can chat.

Ella was amazing and the food was lovely! We had 2 starters, 2 mains and 2 desserts as well as cocktails and soft drinks; the staff was very accommodating to any requestswe had, everything from the beggin and sitting us to asking if the food tasted good was on level, then we got the chocolate orange martini which was very delicious! The chocolate bomb is on top and absolutely the best dessert here, Ella also told us that most of their food comes in fresh which is absolutely amazing! It is not our first time here and we will definitely be back. The food waiting times were not long and the atmosphere was lovely, as well as a car park.

Just been for a meal with friends, it was lovely food, I had the dirty burger, it was very tasty, also had a side of halloumi fries and onion rings. We were served by Louise behind the bar, poured a perfect larger shandy and a smashing passion fruit cocktail, she was friendly and chatty, Imi served us food at the table, lovely young lady. Overall a fantastic evening, we will be coming back. Thank you 😀

Amazing place we always come here, staff are amazing always friendly, food is always lovely. This is our favourite pub and place to go for drinks and food. Always greet us when we come in and our kids and puppy.

Food delicious and very comfortable seats. My pork belly Portion sizes was a little small compared to the past.

Service lacking left for 20 mins.. Wine just brought and left not opened or poured. steak overdone overall experience very disappointing such a shame as been here before and loved it

My husband and I had a lovely meal on the evening of Tuesday 20th August at the Goffs Oak in Cheshunt. We have eaten here many times before and always find the atmosphere and service very good. The staff are very friendly and attentive. I would like to say a big thank you to Hannah and Louise for their excellent service.

Went for a lunchtime meal with my wife and two friends last Thursday 8th Aug. At the end we all agreed that it was the best pub meal we had by far. Between us we had three different starters. The goats cheese and beetroot (2) was to die for. The whole prawns (1) made me wish I had had both. And the haloumi fries. All the mains and deserts were delicious. Mitch and Louise who served us were wonderful. Can't wait to go back.

First visit for a long time. Food was dreadful. Complained and all I got was 'We'll speak to the Chef'. Chef, that's a joke!

I ordered here on Sunday, got a burger and chips, the food was really nice. Got a desert too and it looked very well presented. Felt like a posh restaurant, would definitely recommend

Lots of halloumi fries and amazing service with lovely funny waitresses

I have had some really good food here in the last few months. Yesterday, Monday5th August I was disappointed. The seabass fillets were overcooked and a bit dry. The mini lemon tart tasted ok but looked less than fresh.

Visited at lunchtime with two friends. We all had different options & drinks. Each meal was great ( have experienced the same menu in another pub -presumably a chain with much poorer results). Pleasant decor & excellent staff. Would benefit from more parking.

We’ve been coming here for a couple months now and Lewis and the staff always go out of their way to look after us. They remember our drink orders and always have a nice chat with us.

Very sad review I’m having to make ,I have been going to this pub for a long time with my partner and I believe that recently they have a new manager on the floor in charge , to me and my husbands disgust the way he spoke to and belittled the servers was appalling and very sad ! We’ve come familiar with the servers over the years and to see them being spoken to and belittled is rather disappointing, we believe this new manager to be named Lewis , how unfortunate for the staff to be spoken to in this way in front of customers- he is clearly in the wrong role and made our party very uncomfortable !!

Absolutely love this place. Very welcoming, foods unreal (best in the area), staff are lovely, and prices are extremely good. Highly recommend popping in and enjoying (as micky Flanagan says) a lovely ambience!

Had a nice meal here, the service was quite slow and they were out of some of the food or side dishes which accompanied the mains. I will have to come back to try the lamb as this wasn't available at the time of my visit. Staff were lovely however and would happily come back. I loved the aspall on tap - was delicious! The steak and Merlot pie was scrummy too! Good vibes for families, friends catching up or just if you want to come get some yummy food solo!

We had a large family reunion there this afternoon, with 50 - 60 people in attendance. Everything was handled in the upmost care ensuring that we had everything we needed of food & drinks. The staff kept things flowing so that we could have a wonderful time. Lewis handled any inquiries that we had, and was a pleasure to work with.

This is a gem of an establishment. All dishes ordered were exceptional both in presentation and taste. We were truly blown away with the standard and choice of food on menu. I had to comment to the manager on leaving that he needed to pay his chef well as the food was amazing. He advised the chef was new since February 🙏 hoping he does not leave. We have visited many times in the past The Goff Oak but last Sunday exceeded any expectations. The Manager (front of house) so welcoming. Great experience. Planning a return visit already This is The Starship Enterprise of eating venues!!

We had a lovely family lunch with family from abroad. The scallops, chicken liver pate and squid were delicious starters. We had various main meals, I had the steak and malbec pie which I felt could have had more filling but nevertheless it was tasty. Next time I'll try the pork belly and scallops as I was debating between the two options. The service was outstanding, Lewis and Heather were very kind and attentive. Thank you very much for making our family meal so enjoyable 😊

This is my local pub and I can say it’s had the best management staff and food in my 16 years of living in goffs oak. Spent a nice day out in the beer garden with the family and we all enjoyed our food. A special mention to the potters bar guy and the very polite female bar tender that was looking out for me the other day (she knows who she is) Looking forward to my next visit at The Goffs Oak pub!

Can't believe I'm having post another poor review after last week's offering in the New Forest. Popped in for a quick bite to eat, garlic bread pizette, steak and wine pie, scallops and pork belly for the 2 of us. Decor nice, tables decently spaced 50% full,not noisy so expected a nice experience. Arrived at 7:20pm quickly seated, drinks ordered, before drinks arrive ordered food. After 30 mins prompted a waiter to find out what was taking so long, for him not to return. If I had to guess I'd say he forgot to place our order with the kitchen. Waited another 10 mins for the garlic bread, to be then told he'd asked for them to prepare the mains!! A full hour after we ordered, still no food, told them wanted bill for waiter to say they were plating at that moment, had to be prompted to move starter plate after placing the mains on table. The food was very nice, but again awful service from waiting staff. Manager offered free dessert, declined, she then returned with bill with 20% off, but what should have been a nice meal and guaranteed return visit was marred by the disinterested staff. Pity as it only deserves 3/5 at a push.

First time to this pub. Had lunch with my family and couldn't recommend this pub more. The food was delicious and even managed to satisfy my picky kids. Heather was one of our servers and was incredibly patient with our kids. There was another server (we forgot their name, sorry!) who looked after our table and really made us feel welcome. The steak was cooked perfectly and the kids loved the posh choc brownies. Well done Goffs Oak, we'll be back!

Just been here for lunch. The food was really nice. The person who served us, Heather, was great very attentive. And nothing was too much! Would highly recommend.

Nice relaxing gastro pub. Have been here many times for lunch and dinner with the partner and family. Food is enjoyable and fairly priced for what you get. Nice drink selection. Heather and Jennifer and very nice and polite.

We booked a meal on Friday night and the food was cooked to perfection, me and my wife were talking about it the next day, we then booked the Sunday roast and was blown away by the service and quality of the food.

Very attractive decor and super friendly staff and management. Good choice on menu and decent wine list. Restaurant very clean and tidy. Lewis took great photos (!) and Heather accommodated my substitutions easily. Everyone was so friendly, food came out in good time, was plentiful and hot.

Great place for a get-together. Dogs and babies welcome. Staff are friendly and very helpful. Food is great too
