Booked a meal here and mine was great, no complaints. My wife on the the other hand had a poorer experience. This is a lovely restaurant with local produce and friendly, talented staff and chefs. No complaints there, either. Our problem was this. Why bother to ask if customers have food allergies or intolerances if all that can be done is to limit the choice of menu options or remove items from the plate? It would have been more honest to have stated up front that we can't or won't cater for you, rather than take £200 off us for your vision of our dining experience minus the bits that might end you up in court. You knew in advance that my wife was lactose-intolerant, but served us milk bread and butter? The arrogance of that service was mind blowing. If you have no food allergies or intolerances I would highly recommend this restaurant as a special place to go. If you do have an allergy or intolerance, avoid like the plague. They won't kill or injure you, they'll just treat you as a second class citizen and take your cash. We couldn't even pick a wine choice to match our food because they asked us for our drinks up front, then told us 95% of the menu was not suitable for a person that can't eat dairy. As I'm writing this I'm getting furious. I have had a better experience at The View in Wormit. Now that is a chef that can cope with food issues. Or the Red Onion in Glasgow, Cafe Fish in Tobermory, or Coast in Oban. Weatherspoons, for goodness sake. Sorry, I've been stewing on this for a month. My wife wasn't even offered a dessert menu because none of it was edible for her. I'll say again, my food was exceptional and the young lass that served us was a star, but as a couple, on my birthday, the experience was memorably awful . I am so sorry to say all this, but this establishment needs to wake up. If the chefs here are as good as they proporte themselves to be, please do better

We booked the Robert Burns tour at 12 o’clock and though it is supposed to last 45 minutes, Kathleen the guide carried on well past the hour - great value for only £10. We were all fascinated by the account of Burns’ relationship with the Inn and absolutely loved seeing his chair, and his bed ! The Inn itself is a lovely ancient building dating from 1610 and has been sympathetically restored. We all felt we understood much more about his life and work by the end and would highly recommend this tour.

The food at The Globe Inn was of a very high standard. It was imaginative, beautifully presented and full of exceptional flavours. My wife had beef for her main course which was cooked to perfection. I had the venison which was likewise excellent. The staff were knowledgeable, friendly and very helpful. When our wine was not our taste, it was quickly changed without a quibble. All in all, a delightful experience in a 17th Century pub.

Excellent tour guide unfortunately do not have her name. She was very enthusiastic and passionate about her subject Robbie Burns. Very interesting fascinating place to visit all 4 on tour enjoyed it and the stories the lady told made you want to hear more and read about Burns and his work. The cost I thought initially a bit steep £10 however it was worth it and we were all given a minature whisky at the end. A nice touch the bar staff were friendly would recommend this tour.

What better way to feel the true essence and extraordinary talents of Scotland’s cultural icon Robert Burns than a tour of a 400 year old boozer where he both drank and wrote some of his famous works. For not more than a few shillings (ok £10 to be exact) you can gain a quirky insight into perhaps the greatest Scot of all on a one hour riveting storytelling tour of this small but perfectly formed traditional pub he used to frequent. Host Kathleen does a splendid job with her engaging tales of his life whilst taking you through a couple of well preserved ‘museum’ rooms. So engaging and evocative her delivery you could almost feel his strong and robust presence in those walls seeping back through, where it all began. The drinking room, like yesteryears, where you can sit in the poet’s chair and recite a piece of his works in appreciation. The bedroom, with four poster bed and fireplace, where he’d occasionally stay, you could imagine roaring with both flames and debauchery. The creative and colourful life of the sometimes romantic poet, songwriter and ladies man. Depicted by Kathleen so vividly I felt like I was sitting there, one of the fellow radicals in the 1600s on a cold night at the Globe inn, Dumfries. So close I could almost touch him. As we were nearly done we headed back downstairs to the esteemed but casual fine dining restaurant where a meal for another time is an absolute must having checked out what looked like a mighty fine and inventive menu. The restaurant used to the stables back in the day. A departing gift from Kathleen of a miniature bottle of whisky felt far too generous given how such good value the tour was in itself but ‘wha Hae’ who am I to argue about a wee dram. As we left it was like time had stood still. I felt like borrowing a pony for the long trek home, for a few guineas of course, oh and to ‘mind yer heid’ on the way out.

If you have an allergy don't even bother going here as they will not accommodate you even if you advise in advance of the allergy. We were so excited to take our daughter as we had been a few times and been very impressed, she has a dairy allergy and her choice was 1 item from the starter and main, very disappointing and very annoying when the restaurant manager laughed and asked if it was an allergy or a choice when they had been advised it was an allergy.

Delighted to find they could accept a last minute lunch booking for three, we called for a light lunch. Culloden house is Georgian, understated, old money, top quality. Service was impeccable, as was the food. I can honestly say I have never been disappointed here

I had dinner in this venue on Sunday and I was not disappointed. The meal was a three course affair and all three dishes were delicious! Staff attentive and friendly. Lovely place to visit for the Burns Heritage alone. Can be a seen as expensive...

Enjoyed a delicious evening meal here recently with my husband after spending a day in the town. This was our first visit to the restaurant and we opted for an early evening reservation to ensure a table at this very popular restaurant. Within a short while after taking our seats the restaurant filled up and we were glad that we had booked! The waiting staff were very friendly and courteous and it was a nice touch to be offered a complimentary canape with our drinks order - a delicious crab cappuccino. The waiting staff were able to explain and make recommendations of the dishes on the menu. We both had the scallops and crab for the first course followed by pork cooked two ways for husband and the ox cheek for me - all exquisite and presented beautifully. Husband opted for cheese board to follow and I had the milk chocolate stack, all delicious. The drinks menu had a good, quality selection and husband particularly enjoyed a blonde beer from the local Distillery. This is a lovely, quiet elegant place to eat but still informal and friendly. We will be back.

Nice venue, friendly and efficient bar and waiting staff. Beetroot starter was delicious as was the tiramisu dessert however the only vegetarian main course on offer was not so great. Gnocchi with mild curry sauce, nothing wrong with the sauce or the gnocchi (I like both) but together they were pretty awful. I am a big fan of both Indian and Italian cuisines but not on the same plate. I did tell our waitress who said she would advise the kitchen and also told the chef when he came into the restaurant at the end of the evening and if he had shown any interest in the fact I had really not enjoyed the main part of my meal I probably would not have been prompted to write this review. The other members of our party were overall pretty pleased with the food offering, most weren’t keen on the gnocchi though!

Had lunch here with friends the other week and if you are after something a bit different then give this a go. Nice varied, quality menu, but not sure the scones win me over. Staff are friendly and lovely.

Great improvements have been made environmentally and the place is looking great compared to what it used to be. However, as much as the food at our lunch was ok the scone on which the brisket was served was not that good and it was over priced for what it was.

Having dined in a lot of restaurants all over the UK and Europe. I was extremely impressed by the quality of this place, especially since it's hidden away in literally an alley in Dumfries. I have to say I even resurrected my old TripAdvisor especially to give it the biggest thumbs up I can. This fantastic Pub/Restaurant is genuinely one of the best eateries I have ever dined in. Filled with history and some of the best whisky selections i have come across in Scotland (although i was on business so i couldn't indulge my self as i normally would) I was taken a back by the place. I had a Scallop dish to start with the beef as a main, both were in my humble opinion Michelin worthy and if i was served them in a far more expensive place in London or Paris i would not of bat an eye lid. Simply divine. My colleague enjoyed a portion of the Scallops as well, but had the Pigeon as a main. I must admit, i am not into pigeon my self but the presentation was impeccable. Dumfries should be very proud of this diamond they have, and i will be back to try the vast majority of those whisky's! 5+ A+

After having lunch some time ago I decided to try the Globe's new dinner menu. I had the venison carpaccio to start and the flavour was intense! Bright colours lifted the whole dish and the addition of dark chocolate gave such a natural sweet element.I then had the ox cheek. No other word than divine is acceptable to describe it! The cheeks melted in the mouth and were accompanied with a rich buttery pomme puree. The bordelaise garnish was incredibly smokey and rich. I then had both the cheese and chocolate and banana cremeaux. The cremeaux was a striking tower of chocolate mousse and banana finished with a banana tuille and rich butterscotch sauce. The cheese puts every cheeseboard I have ever had to shame! 9 different cheeses from around the world all perfectly matched with each other so they didn't clash. Clearly a lot of thought has been put into the entire menu and the service was faultless. Absolutely amazing - Dumfries has never seen the likes of a restaurant this good before!

New owners (Annandale Distillery) have invested a fair bit in this age-old Dumfries pub and have completely transformed things into a wonderful eatery. Remarkably tasty, locally sourced food with exceptional service. Extensive whisky menu to try on another night. Will definitely return. Hats off to the team.

Went to a Burns Night at this recently refurbished Inn. The menu was a starter of Haggis neeps and tatties with peated rascally cream. The main course was slow cooked rib of beef with dauphinoise potatoes and sprouts al cream. The food was fantastic, period.

Visited the Frothy this morning for the first & very last time as the cafe is closing. Whilst the cafe was comfortable the coffee wasn’t the best ever tasted and we were stunned at the price! Compared to other coffee houses close by it was surprising; could this be a reason they are not finding it profitable?

Went for breakfast & the place was pretty quiet. Disappointed with portion size. Ordered 2 x breakfast & 2 x cup of teas which came to £25.75. Gave feedback to member of staff & they were not interested. Won’t be back.

I go here regularly for a carvery as it is one of the best I have been to. I am a very fussy eater and to find a carvery that serves chicken as an option is surprising difficult. The three meats to choose from are usually chicken, beef and gammon/ham. The veg/side options usually include cauliflower cheese, broccoli, carrots, Yorkshire pudding, cocktail sausages and stuffing, but the roast tatties are my favourite part of the meal! You are limited to going up to fill your plate only once but I usually leave feeling very full. Sometimes I have soup as a starter as well depending on what kind it is. I highly recommend giving the carvery a go for anyone who is a fan of a good roast!

This cafe served the worst scone I have ever had / didn't have. (and that's saying something as I'm in my 70s and have had a few in my time. You could build a house with a few of them. Inedible expensive rubbish. It came in a paper bag, no plate and a wooden disposable knife which struggled to cut it. The coffee was served in a paper cup. But was drinkable. Cost over £13 for two coffees and two inedible scones. I am disgusted and will definitely won't be back

Friendly, relaxed, flexible and fun. Nick was a brilliant teacher and good company. Took Mother for some quality time together and she was immediately put at ease and we both had a lovely time. Will definitely go again. If you want quality experiences with friends and family AND you want to learn some great life skills to boot then book your place!
