While the lunch menu is simple--sandwiches and soups--the food is fresh and tasty. The atmosphere is pleasantly quaint and the staff friendly. A respite from city and highway, right on the coastal route.

Where do I start, this is by far the worst campsite I've ever stayed at. Back to the stone stoneage. I booked via pitch up.com then contacted the site by email and telephone direct. All I wanted was electric hookup which, I was informed by the female owner, would not be a problem even though I made it clear that I have a large tent. The price was agreed at £30 per night for 5 nights. On arrival, the owners son directed us to our pick of pitches. That's what we did, pitched up and hooked up. We even spoke to the male owner later in the evening. I woke the next morning to find my electric had been unplugged at the mains socket so I reconnected (fridge etc.). It turns out, the owner had done this! He came back after about 2 hours and said that we were in the wrong pitch, the tents had to be pitched elsewhere. I explained that we had been directed there. After discussion he went away to check. He again returned and agreed that this was the case but I hadn't booked electric. I showed him my email and recounted the discussion I'd had re electric. His wife even agreed that I was to pay £30 pn. Later, I went to pay £150 cash (there isn't even a card facility) to the owner's son who had to 'ring Mummy' to confirm the price. I could hear a further discussion by phone about the price. The son told me his parents would be 'back in 5 minutes and could I come back then. Anyway, after a time, both owners came to my tent and a further discussion was held about the price. The owner actually said that we would have had to pay an extra £25 pn for electric. By this time we had already sourced a different campsite and left, paying £30 for the 1 night we had stayed. So, there is no piped water around the site, only 1 tap at the (lol) shower block. The showers are antiquated, costing £1 for a 6 minute shower. The toilets are basic, broken seats, loo roll holders etc. The hairdryer in the Ladies loo fuses out. A disgrace of a place in the heart of the beautiful North coast. I cant swear here but it rhymes with sithole. Avoid, avoid, avoid.

I’ve never given a “terrible” review before but as someone who depends on the accuracy of Tripadvisor when I travel, and someone who loves my native County Antrim, I can’t turn a blind eye to this . We couldn’t get parked in Ballycastle for a sandwich so decided to drive round the coast. I should have know to drive on when I saw the empty car park, but I thought we couldn’t go wrong with soup and a sandwich and the view over Rathlin was worth the stop. Wrong on both counts. We were shown into an untidy bar-conservatory which seems to double as store for various items including the artificial Christmas tree, and with a view over the unkempt lawn. The vegetable broth was served with a heel of a white loaf ( for non British, the “heel” of a loaf is the outer slice of crust), butter but no knife and it had so much grease floating that we couldn’t finish it . Salad sandwiches were bits of lettuce and tomato, no dressing. The waitress then miscalculated the bill at £24; I helped her recalculate it to the correct total of £15.40, and even though she didn’t charge for the pot of tea the bill was exorbitant for the quality. As I waited at reception to pay the bill an American lady made an enquiry and quickly retreated to her minibus. This is not the standard we should allow for tourists, international or local.

We had a quick meal in the pub area as the restaurant wasn't serving. Casual atmosphere. The food was good.

Situated at the end of the main reception area, enter the restaurant and find it almost enchanting. Clean tables await and the walls have photographs that will ensure you look closer. Service is excellent and everyone so friendly.
