Took my elderly mother and Aunt for lunch.First thing they noticed tables laid with crisp white table cloths and a very warm welcome.Prawn starter was enjoyed as was the soup. Main course beef ,pork and turkey dinners ordered and all were well presented hot and very edible. As the lunch time progressed it became quite busy. This is obviously a new venture and the new owner was very pleasant and keen to please. I think it will improve further as he and his staff gain more experience.

Was looking forward to visiting again after hearing it had re-opened! However, the service was poor, considering we were the only people there and the food was average!! They only had 1 dessert available which wasn’t even on the menu!!! Apparently the freezer had broken down! The card machine wasn’t working so had to hunt for a cash machine in the local area! It was annoying that we weren’t told this on booking as reading other reviews since, this has been an issue for some time! Won’t be returning.

The Glancynon re-opened just over a week ago. Yesterday was their first meal service, and we had booked a table for Sunday lunch. We were slightly worried due to the fact that we were the first to try food with the new owners. We had nothing to worry about... The staff were brilliant, the chef was top cook, the ambiance was better than it had been for years.Beef was just melt in the mouth, big home made Yorkshire puds on everyone’s plates with roast and boiled potatoes, carrots, cauliflower cheese, roast parsnip and broccoli. And to top it off, home made gravy which was delicious! It was fabulous to see the support they received from the village on their first Sunday lunch. Keep up the good work all... This is a chance to shine once again, can’t wait to return.

This place was one of the best places years ago. Do not bother to go now unless you want VERY VERY poor quality cheap rubbish food and service. The place is totally dated and needs a major refurbishment. I was ripped off on my bill. Charged evening prices for the lunch menu. Did not realise until I looked at my bill at home. I will never return.

We were in a group of six adults and three young children. Staff were very friendly and we weren't made to feel uncomfortable with the children. We went on a Sunday so there was a traditional Sunday dinner on offer witha choice of meats. There were also other choices from the menu. Service was prompt and there were good sized portions. The cost was very reasonable. We ate in the upstairs room so access might be an issue but I think there are tables downstairs as well. Car park is a decent size. Would definitely consider returning.

We ordered a starter of chicken strips which were cooked lovely and I would say quite a generous portion as well... We then had the mixed grill and the cajun chicken skewers... Both were fantastic value for money and also Everythng was cooked perfect.. All the staff that served us from the barstaff to the waitress were lovely and were very friendly.. Served with a giant onion ring and large chips and salad. Was so tasty and worth the wait.

Just had a dinner here and I got to say it was terrible. I didn't like anything about it at all. The chicken seemed to be undercooked the veg was bland and tasted frozen and they didn't bring all the veg to the table just peas and carrots with a bit of green beans on the side. The 1 potato we had tasted funny and roasters and stuffing was solid. Will never come back here again it's was awful!

Looked really nice and plenty of it.. I ordered soup which did not arrive.. after 10 mins waiter apologised and said it was on its way. 10 mins went by so I cancelled my starter (my partner had finished his) and just asked for our beef dinners.... waited a further 20 mins... no food. We decided to leave. I'd been in the pub for an hour in total and had received no food. We cancelled our order and the waitresses were very apologetic and wavered any payment for the starter and drinks we had. Nice gesture but would have really liked to have eaten!!!Not a good experience- won't visit again.

One star is too much to even give but this is for the one mature lady who worked upstairs on the night. She was lovely. Well where do I start. £25.00 for 3 course Christmas dinner seemed reasonable enough. Starter came out half an hour later than we arrived even though all our meals where pre-ordered. Frozen prawns and jar thousand island sauce dumped on top. I don't even have jar sauce in my house so don't expect it out. The brie wedge starter was half the size too.Main course well my Turkey was dry unseasoned and terribly over cooked. Frozen aunt Bessie's Yorkshire puddings and roast potatoes. Yuck. Don't have them in the house either. Vegetables well a 3 month old baby could have eaten them they were so over cooked they turned to mush whilst picking them up. No one ate main course and we all stood up and left to go down stairs to wait for the owner. Did not even get to dessert.Well her dad arrived as she is only 18. Craig. we was met with an aggressive, hot headed bottle/line cleaner man. Instantly, going to one of our party demanding to know who hasn't paid. To which see replied not one of us and we are not going to for that so called meal. We where then met with verbal abuse and hostile physic from Craig to which he sacked a member of our party, through us out and banned all 11 of us. The beat thing was another table of 12 upstairs and a table of pub drinkers also complained about the same food. So that would show you that the chef is an idiot and cannot cook even a boiled potatoe. Its him that's destroying your daughters pub not the girl that has done everything in her power and more to make that pub a success. The Glancynon in Hirwaun is a complete and utter JOKE. You go there and you might as well put your money straight in the bin.

Seeing as my post was deleted.. I'll post it again. And on Trip advisor.Having gone to the Glan last year for our Ladies Christmas meal and thoroughly enjoyed we decided to book again this year. Big mistake. Some of the girls had a brie starter, fine.. but considering there are normally 2 portions of brie they felt a bit let down. I had a duck starter which was so cold it made my teeth hurt and it was duck leg breast so as you can imagine greasy as. I pinched a hot roll off one the girls who had a soup to try and warm it up.After a lengthy wait we finally had our substandard Xmas main.. as you can see it didn't even fill the plate.. some of us didn't receive Yorkshire puds or stuffing. 2 measly Aunt Bessie roast potatoes, tinned/frozen veg which consisted for some of 2 potatoes, 1 pig in blanket, 3 watery carrots and swede, no peas on some plates,1 brussel sprout and meat that can only be described as from a packet warmed up in the microwave. Oh and gravy that must of been made from Bisto. We didn't even bother with the dessert and refused to pay the £15 extra (after paying a £10 deposit). There was 11 of us so they had already made £110 off us besides the bottles of already opened wine and other drinks. We went downstairs, me and my sister finished our drinks and decided to leave.. What happened next is unbelievable and I'm glad I wasn't there. They had the cheek to sack my cousin who works there on her night out for a meal after we had complained. The worst part about this is it wasn't even a manager but the pot washer.

Spent some time planning a visit here for my other half's birthday meal with the in laws - we don't live locally so relied on Trip Advisor, Facebook and the good ole interweb, to suggest somewhere new (and not a bloody Harvester or such like).A very professional website, and I mean very nice, led me to look into what people had thought. A few bad reviews should never put you off if the majority are good.I should have paid more attention. The pub itself was nice, and in the summer months it would be beautiful. The staff were welcoming if a little untrained (a requested for a glass of medium white wine was met with a "we only do small and large glasses"), but we soldiered on. The menu presented didn't bear a great if resemblance to the website but hey, things change! What came out of the kitchen was a shock. 3 of the 4 meals were pretty inedible. Lasagne, to my knowledge, should contain pasta. After a minute of digging around I found none, nadda, nothing, no pasta. It wasn't just me either! Sorry to say they were sent back, and as 2 were veggie we didn't have a choice for a replacement. The staff were very helpful and didn't charge us for the meals sent back, and offered us a free meal if we returned next weekend - I won't be going back. We were advised that they had a new chef who was working with what the old chef had made. Well no wonder you had a new one, if this was his standard.I can't fault the bar and waiting staff, they did a great job. But if the new chef thinks what was served up was a Lasagne, they need to go back to catering college! At the time of writing don't trust the website - it is not a true representation of what the pub is actually like right now.

Visited here on 24 September for a reunion. Some 50 or 60 people in the upstairs room. Service at the bar was a bit slow, but I don't think they had thought through the implications of so many people arriving and wanting drinks at the same time. The young lad behind the bar tried very hard to cope, but the problem was soon remedied by the arrival of another member of staff, after that all was good. The buffet was ordered for 8.30 to 9.00. What a buffet it was. Platters of Turkey, Gammon and Beef. A whole salmon. Rice salad. Green salad. Samosas. The usual pasties, Coleslaw, sausages, French bread, cheeses and biscuits, followed by cake and other desserts. They certainly did us proud.

Visited the Glan tonight for an impromptu meal - Saturday, with my husband for a celebration meal for my new job. Unfortunately a lot has to be said about the level of customer service experienced. A near empty restaurant and offers a table next to a young coupe with two very young children - lucky being grandparent this was not a problem but for others could see this as being do. When ordering a bottle of wine offered firstly mismatched glasses till pointed this out. Then expected to open the wines our selves on the bar, when u come out for a treat ! Pop cork yourself I can do this at home ! Walked away to the table till they brought the wine over opened and plonked on the table no wine / bottle cooler ! When asked for one, brought one so full of water and ice it when the waiter put in the bottle it over flowed into the table running off on to hubbies trousers. Not impressed. Order for food taken promptly. Waited a long time for food which was good when it arrived and correct to order. Once served Nobody came to came to check all was good or if we wanted anything further drinks, accompaniments etc., tables next to us when family left was left for a long period of time not cleared with only four other people eating in the room so not overly busy. No atmosphere in the place, even had to ask for music to be played as background but when put on very loud and wrong tracks played for background relaxing restaurant ambience. When paying card taken out of sight to the till as did not check how we were paying. When using the ladies after the meal no toilet paper was available in either cubical - lucky tissue in my bag !! Empty rolls on a Saturday night at 8pm !!! Don't think we would eat here again even though the food was ok. Customer service lacking !!! Need to up the game.

Another review from me on my local "The Glan" It's clear to see the new owners are definitely making a positive impact on ensuring the pubs future is a successful one. I took my parents and another couple for lunch and I'm very pleased to say the service was good and the meals although basic were actually excellent (well done). I mentioned some basic points for the staff to alter in my previous reviews such as putting pictures on the walls to add some warmth and character instead of just a Wales flag. Good to see these changes and that the bar fridges were stocked with a selection of drinks! Please consider painting the walls or at least some of them a warmer colour such as a deep red or dark green. The white paint everywhere just makes the place look empty. One last point, don't put to many signs up in the beer garden reference the play area after all it is a beer garden not a crèche. I'm not that keen on looking at Mickey Mouse pictures everywhere!Well done so far to keeping this pub a place people want to spend time in.

Visited here for lunch and a few drinks with family. Food was nice and staff were very friendly. Prices are reasonable for pub grub. The only reason it's mark down is for the decor. Visited for a birthday meal. Little option available on starter menu, but offered chicken Goujons which were lovely. Mains arrived at all different times. Two cod meals arrived 1st, one with jacket and 1 with sweet potato fries. Cod with jacket arrived, with no peas or side salad, no lemon or tartar sauce and had to ask to bring these extras which we never got. The other cod was eaten whilst waiting for sweet potato fries, which by the way never arrived, was given a bowl of overcooked chips instead. All other mains were very nice, but home cooked chips were revolting, think they had been cooked 3 hours earlier. Overall food was tasty, but service and lack of provision of things ordered let this down big time!!!!

Visited The Glancynon Inn for a family meal. Food was really nice and service was excellent. The staff made you so welcome and provided excellent service. Very good choice of menu, something for everyone. The desserts, all i can say is yum!During my visit at the restaurant we could see that they were doing takeaways, excellent idea... So during the working week my office decided to try this service out. Not one complaint was made from the staff or even a clean plate in our kitchen. Takeaway fish and chips and the Balti curry were a fave amongst staff. As the food was so good and service was excellent, we have now agreed for it to be a weekly event - Its called The Glan Friday :-) But seriously, you need to try this food... You dont know what your missing!

Well what can i say... Food was fabulous. Hot right through, delicious and a very good choice of menu. Staff were welcoming and service was second to none. Took my children and usually my youngest is a fussy eater if not home cooked but i must say he ate every bit so thats a gold star in my book for restaurants (Well done the Glancynon). Childs play area was a great idea, kept them entertained. Noticed on their notice board that they have alot of upcoming events too which is really good as it is always hard to try find somewhere in the valleys that doesnt cost an arm and a leg to visit. I will most def be back...

I haven't actually tried the food so take this review as a review of the way we were made to feel and not a reflection on the food served. The menu looked very good and we were looking forward to booking but during our hour or so visit we were stared at by locals and ignored by staff, I got the feeling that new faces were not welcome.

Popped in for lunch last Friday and the place was packed. I was offered a table in the bar as the lounge was full. Polite staff. Good value lunchtime meal and a pleasant change to eat in the bar with nice regulars to chat with.

Had a meal here tonight with family and I have to say, it was beautiful. Didn't expect a good meal due to all the bad reviews on here but the whole family was shocked. Beautiful food, really tasty. Great service from the bar staff and waitress. Heard a table complain about their food but nobody else in the restaurant seemed to have a problem with the food. Don't know why there's such bad reviews on here about the pub and new management. Spoke to the management myself and they were more than helpful to recommend places toVisit. Great place! Will visit again!!!!

I have reviewed The Glan a few times now and I will continue to do so as it's my local and I want it to be a great place to go. I would really like the owners to actually read there feedback here on TripAdvisor and take some action. The pub now states it's under new management again but there has been a noticeable drop in overall standards. The bar looks bare and un-welcoming, all the walls are painted white, the lights are on full brightness and there is nothing hanging on the walls except a Welsh flag! The fridges behind the bar are empty and kids use the place to hang out! So it's no longer a place I want to visit and judging by others on TripAdvisor they feel the same. It's not all doom and gloom though and rather than just stating all the negatives above let's look to what can be done because if the owners make a few basic and not costly changes it could be a great local pub again.List of things to do:1. Stock the bar properly.2. Paint some walls a rich dark colour to add warmth and character.3. Dim the lights in the bar, you wouldn't sleep in bed with your big light on!4. Ask the kids for ID then politely ask them to leave.5. The chalk board promoting events at the main entrance looks tacky and is something I would expect to see in Benidorm. To the new owners - Please don't take this in the wrong way, I understand the circumstances of why you now run The Glan but please take note of the above before this pub becomes a DIVE!!!

Not sure what has happened to this place, but has been an eye-opener the last twice I called for a drink (haven't tried the food since under new management)I was there a few weeks ago sitting in the bar with family. There were workmen drinking at the bar, and then a few more came in. The language was so loud, we couldn't hear ourselves talk! I was embarrassed for other people around, but bar staff couldn't care less and did not ask them to tone it down.Called again over the weekend, it was worse than last time. Beer garden full of drunks swearing, its a good job there were no families around on this occasion. It is such a shame as all previous owners/managers worked so hard to make this a good family pub, and always full of people you know. Now it has been taken over by youngsters with some less-desirable customers in tow. It really is a loss to the community. RIP Glancynon.

I recently visited the pub for a quiet drink with friends to celebrate the football, just as we got the first round of drinks in my friend who's male went into the male toilets to find two men in a ridiculous state swearing and shouting about all sorts we weren't to bothered due to being older but when they came out falling and continuing to swear in front of children and families I was shocked, the staff behind the bar then continued to serve them more alcohol when they were already intoxicated. We then over heard a man tell people that his daughter who was in her school uniform has taken over the pub and is running it with her partner, I was then appalled to find out that two 18 year olds are running the pub. Then I got spoken to like a child when ordering a drink by a person who looks under the age of 16 themselves, I'd stay well clear of this place as I felt uncomfortable there , this is no family pub anymore just run by children and full of rowdy drunken men!!!!

We called into the Glancynon one Saturday afternoon looking to order a bar meal. The lounge was quite busy with a small coach trip in but we found a table no problems. The menu was varied and the prices reasonable. I had the chicken which was very tasty and moist and my husband had the beef ribs which were fantastic! Great value for money and we would definitely eat here again. Glad to see they stocked the local Brecon gin too which I love but can't always find in pubs.

thank you to Rhys and his staff for providing a hot and cold buffet for our wedding reception. the food was tasty and the bar staff were friendly and efficient. the venue has recently been redecorated and proved to be an excellent choice. our 50 guests enjoyed the day and Rhys supervised proceedings to ensure everything ran smoothly. no complaints from any of our guests who thoroughly enjoyed the meal. many of them commented on the quality of the food and have arranged to frequent the restaurant.

We went as a group there was around 10 of us. Had heard good things recently but was a bit disappointed. The food was just average, my meal personally was ok but the rest was a bit disappointing. The prawn cocktail starter was basic and the ribs didn't taste very nice. It's clear that the staff are trying so hard to get the pub to a good standard, I think they just need a bit more time, they are going in the right direction. We had a few niggles and they gave us all a free dessert which was great customer service. Would go back again though, the atmosphere is always nice and the beer garden is fab too!

I went for a meal with my husband and 4 year old son last Sunday. we ordered 2 sunday roasts and the veggie curry which was for me. all 3 meals were lovely and the portions were big even for the kids option.my husband had the garlic mushroom to start and it was delicious. the sunday roast came with lots of fresh veg. atmosphere was family friendly and it was a nice sunny day and some guests were sat in the garden enjoying the sun shine. i would definitely go back again and try the normal menu. they sometimes have a BBQ in the beer garden- how cool is that! Awesome place and great value for money!

Me and a friend decided to meet at the Glancynon for a drink but I wished we never bothered. The pub was run by young girls who were talking to young males who were also drinking there, I waited over 15 minutes to be served due to the girls attention else where and it wasn't even busy. I then went into the dinning area to try and be served and had to wait a further 5 minutes for the girl to finish doing her hair in the mirror. Maybe more older experienced staff needed as it looks like it's being run by children. Where's the manger to see this? This used to be a great pub , I have never waited so long in my life to get a drink... Come on Glancynon what's happening!

I have always had lots of praise for this restaurant, but I visited Friday evening with my husband without booking , the food we had was not edible , the table next to us had their drinks served in dirty glasses, there was singer in the next room and it was not very relaxing to hear that racket. On leaving went to the toilet only for it to be full of drunk foul mouthed women . Will find somewhere else to eat next time we are down visiting family....

Went to the Glan for lunch on Saturday with my toddler. There was a wide varietyOf food on the menu but only one child's menu which was quiet expensive and way too much food for an 18mth year old.The food was presented lovely and I enjoyed my gammon but did find he chips tasted of old chip fat.The staff were very accommodating with my little one and they have a fantastic beer garden area.Would defo go back but would avoid theChips and paying that amount for a babiesMeal.

Stopped in here as we were staying in aberdare, we were given a warm welcome from the staff and customers, i ordered the lasagne and my son had the gourmet burger, both were delicious, i am fussy with lasagne but have to say it was 10/10, the ambiance of the place was made complete by the open fire was lit and the locals chatted to us all evening, we had dessert i had cheesecake which was light and moreish, my son had the brownie all tasted home made, they do a full childs menu and dogs are welcome (we had ours with us), when i am next in the area we will re visit hopefully on a thursday as my son enjoyed his lesson in fly making from the thurday evening fly fisherman

Visited again 4/8/24. Our Calamari and home made soup starters were really good. The carvery meat and all vegetables were cooked beautifully and plenty of choice. Although it was very busy the service was efficient with no wait and also no feeling of being rushed. The young man who looked after us was friendly and professional - as were all the staff there. Excellent value for money. If you've not been then try it. You won't be disappointed.
