We came to High Rocks for a late lunch earlier this month for lunch. First impressions were that the place was a bit old fashioned, both in terms of decor but also with regard to the menu, which included starters such as melon and parma ham (I think this was popular quite a long time ago). We ordered an array of dishes, from starters through to dessert and found the food to be very pleasant. I had the lasagne started and risotto for a main, which were tasty and very generous in terms of portion size. The service couldn't be faulted and it's clearly a very tight ship at the restaurant, with someone always on hand to help. So on balance, I'd recommend the restaurant, outstanding service, good food and nice staff, however I think the menu could definitely do with an update and the restaurant and lobby area could too.

Utterly charming. Staff so welcoming, plentiful and attentive. Setting is fantastic, certainly on a hot summers day to sit up among the tree tops with windows open and a cool breeze, but on a rainy cold day it would be just as atmospheric. Decor - who cares if it is a little twee when all else is good. Beer rated excellent by my expert husband. Choice of wine good. Fantastic mozzarella salad starter - just like they serve in Rome. All roast dinners enjoyed and my vegetarian, gluten free risotto was a dream. Puddings were beautiful. No time to stop for coffee/tea as wanted to walk in the wonderful High Rocks behind the restaurant and catch the steam train.

Myself and my partner (40 something’s) came out for a bite to eat on a Sat eve, Good Location, Spa Valley train route, etc, Nice venue, why does it feel like this place needs a rocket up its backside. Kind polite friendly waiter/staff Lovely timber framed restaurant with ceiling lit up with fairy lights. Food was good but with so many restaurants going that much further with their food and presentation these days I feel the high rocks is unfortunately being left behind. Someone needs to shake this place up, a bit of reinvention needed! The instrumental elevator music was cringey but did serve as a source of amusement as it made us feel like we were on a cruise ship and the waiter knew all the words.. bless him. Instrumental background music is fine to create a little ambience but I feel it needs to be music for now not of 1970! Flyer on the table advertising ‘Opera Night’ with so and so playing the Grand piano!! And ‘canopés upon arrival...HELP!! Come on Giuseppes/High Rocks there is GREAT potential here but ask yourselves what clientele your trying to attract.

The food and attention to detail was absolutely first class. We had a table for 16 celebrating my husband`s 80th birthday. We have been coming to the High Rocks for a number of years including weddings and can never fault it. It is such a unique venue with a beautiful garden. Sunday lunchtime at Giuseppe`s has such a lovely atmosphere with a grand piano being played.

This place is a bit of an enigma! The location is beautiful with High Rocks behind it and the steam railway running at the bottom of the garden. Indeed the gardens themselves are beautiful. That's about where it stops. We went there for a drink and bar snacks with the intention of watching the trains on the railway gala day. Arrived abut 1230 quite expecting the place to be busy as I thought other people might have the same idea. Place was deserted! Ordered drinks and sat in garden. Started to rain so moved inside and decided to order bar snacks. Very limited and not particularly appealing menu. Basically baguettes or sandwiches. Suppose they want to force you into their restaurant! Ordered sandwiches which when arrived were wrapped in cling film and in a paper bag. Had obviously been pre-prepared and stored in a fridge as they were ice cold. Served wrapped in cling film - no garnish. To be fair the sandwiches were well filled but the presentation left much to be desired. Most of the staff appear to be Eastern European. I don't have a problem with that but they do need to be able to communicate in English. Toilet facilities are totally inadequate. Heaven knows what it's like when the place is busy (is it ever busy?) It is a real shame because with a little flair and creativity it could be made a beautiful venue. In common with the other people who have left less than satisfactory reviews about this place it seems to suffer from greedy owners.

Have just returned from having Sunday lunch there were 4 of us in the party and we all agreed that the standard of service and quality of the food was a as good as our last visit. Although the restaurant was busy the waiters were brilliant, the food was plentiful and well cooked and presented. Never had poor service or a problem with the food and that includes our sons wedding. Worth the 5 star rating any day.

We will be back ,we already came to High Rocks ,but never ate in this busy restaurant. We loved the atmosphere and were made welcome when we arrived, the restaurant is very big and warm(wood everywhere) it looks like a chalet in Switzerland. There is a pianist playing while you are eating. We had 2 x 3 courses menus ( £ 19.95) including a child menu beers and wines .Some complimentary Amuse-bouches were brought to us before the starters .The portions in each dish were good we had a Parma ham and melon,an avocado with prawns Marie-rose then as a main a roast beef and a filet of Seabass with an emulsified lemon butter sauce and Crayfish tails. All served with plenty of vegetables in a side dish. The sauce in my fish was very tasty but missed. We then had puddings,a generous English cheeses board and and Petits Fours with coffees. This is the best service we ever had since 10 years of living in the country ! one negative thing ,I noticed some glasses on a big table next to us could have done with some wiping .

A wedding was taking place downstairs, and the DeLorean from Back to the Future was parked outside, presumably waiting to transport the lucky couple forwards to their divorce lawyer's office! (only kidding!) A family group of us were there for my Godson's birthday and we were very well looked after by both the front of office staff and an excellent waiter. Food was fresh and tasty - I had the chicken in lemon sauce. This is an atmospheric venue , and despite being just about the only group there for dinner that early in the evening , we felt very welcome.

My Mum decided she wanted to go her on the spur of the moment to celebrate her birthday. We went in for lunch, we hadn't booked but they were very helpful and made up a table for 6. The restaurant is set in the Kent country side beside a natural tourist attraction High Rocks, it also has the steam railway running beside it giving you access to Groombridge, Eridge and Tunbridge Wells via old fashioned steam trains. The food was lovely and top class, service was excellent and very friendly. Pleasant atmosphere with a gentleman playing the grand piano, lots of tunes, even some from Frozen! You can eat for 2 courses from £15 and 3 courses for £18 a head, very reasonably priced, with canapes and fresh bread to start.

We celebrated our Silver Wedding Anniversary on Sat 11th Oct in the President's suite at High Rocks. We cannot praise the team highly enough. Right from my very first enquiries last year. Every email was answered immediately. Giuseppe and the team were totally accommodating to our requests, flexible to our needs, not phased with guests with nut allergies and a coeliac. They even placed a large armchair in the room for my Father to sit in comfort during the evening as he's rather poorly at the moment, which he really appreciated too. They produced some pin boards for us to display our wedding photos, it's these little touches that made it so special, In fact, it was perfect! We had about 100 guests for an evening party with finger buffet. The food was delicious, plentiful and beautifully presented. This place is run like a well oiled machine. We really felt that they would do anything to make our event special, and they totally succeeded in this. We loved them being so flexible and didn't feel like they were just trying to make money out of us, indeed it was quite the opposite. They were very happy for us to use our own bands (unlike some other venues I viewed), and even made suggestions that made our catering bill cheaper! We had a pay bar and the prices were very reasonable. The President's suite is a lovely room. The floor had literally just been relaid. The lighting is beautiful. The team we had looking after us on the night, two excellent bar men and a manager, were superb. Friendly, efficient, flexible, professional. There were lots of other events going on that night. The team of friendly door staff do a fantastic job ensuring guests go to their correct event. We used the complimentary minibus back to our hotel as we spent the night in Tunbridge Wells. What a brilliant idea this service is. Loads of our guests used it, so could all enjoy a drink and not only not need to drive, but get a free ride home! Thank You Guiseppe and the whole team at High Rocks. We had a fabulous party and wouldn't hesitate to recommend High Rocks.

We attended a special wedding here and the venue, location and service was perfect. Every detail carefully thought about. Great location being so close to Tunbridge Wells but tucked away in the countryside only a short distance from the town. The grounds and gardens are perfect for photos too. The meal was lovely and the portions were very good. Staff were extremely efficient but few lacked charisma. Toilets were up three (shortish) flights of stairs which could be a problem for elderly guests. All in all, a great time was had by everyone. And at the end of the night the High Rocks lay on a free shuttle service back into the town, very useful.

We had the 'joy' of having the owner show us around High Rocks, we told him that we will only have 30-40 guests in the day and 100 in the evening. He took us to the 'only room' we could hire for our party size. It literally had 5 tables, a small bar and no dance floor, how 100 people would have an enjoyable time in this room baffles me, particularly as 60 would be standing up all evening so I told him the room wasn't big enough for our needs. He responded by telling us it was big enough and had no care in listening to my reasoning of why it wasn't, simply assured us that no one dances at weddings nowadays anyway.I should also add we were told on the phone when enquiring we could have any room apart from the barn with our party size so the whole thing was very misleading and unprofessional.I asked to see one of the bigger rooms and he reluctantly showed us. He then literally said, word for word, 'good luck on marrying her' in the rudest tone ever. I was gob-smacked but decided to ignore the comment. The second room was big enough but he said there was no chance we could have it. He didn't even ask us to pay extra, simply said it wasn't possible. This shows how much of an inflexible venue they are.I can assure you I wasn't rude in any way, I was excited to see the venue and was really put in my place from simply being honest in that the room wasn't suitable. He was eye-rolling non-stop when we spoke and simply wouldn't have any of it that the room may be small for us. It's clear this is just a money making machine which I wouldn't touch with a barge pole for my big day. There are only 2 nice rooms, the small one (not suitable for a wedding) or the barn which you need 200 guests to use, the others are old fashioned and really need a face-lift. It is a cheap venue but when you are sharing your day with 3 other brides it needs to be!I'm not sure why we stayed for food looking back but we did and it was okay but not brilliant. The day was partially saved by them charging us £2.70 for food rather than £27. All I can say is that's karma for you. It is such a shame this is run by such an awful man as it is in such a good location.

We celebrated at High Rocks 3 years ago and had a wonderful time so wanted to experience that again. We had a really fun evening. We agree with the previous review that the main meal was a little disappointing but have to say the starter and dessert surely made up for it. The bar was very busy but where isn't on New Years Eve. We really liked the dance floor being where it was this year, it felt bigger and was nice to be able to go back to table and chat where a little quieter. The atmosphere was great, a real party feel and lots of friendly people. The music was good, the DJ was friendly and played a couple of songs we asked for.The staff were professional and gave us a very warm welcome.Overall High Rocks provided us a fun New Years Eve with a real party atmosphere. We have been to the High Rocks for the last couple of years and it has been brilliant. You take it with a pinch of salt and have to enter into the spirit of it, but for the money, it has not been bad at all. Not only has the food been good value in the past, but the atmosphere has been fantastic. Literally as soon as the music started the dance floor was packed out and it lasted until 1.30am! This year, it was woefully bad. The manager should have sorted the key requirements to a successful evening and followed the style of previous years. This year they only had one or two bar staff so the queues for drinks were long, the food was awful and the disco was moved into an area away to the restaurant so the atmosphere was lost. The DJ was disappointing to say the least and nowhere near as good as last year. His music choice was inconsistent and chopped and changed genres from one minute to the next. Not professional at all. We will not be returning and felt it was a complete waste of money. If you like dried up chicken for main with no sauce, catering roast potatoes and one veg, then this is the place for you! The wine is awful too, so you are better off not drinking it! Time to move on and try somewhere new.

We got married here last September in The President's Suite upstairs and can honestly say that we had the best day. Having heard only very good things about the venue, High Rocks did not disappoint. The owner of the place couldn't be more helpful from the very start, allowing us to view the room whenever we wanted, patiently answering the dozens of questions we had during the 11 months of planning, putting us at ease and agreeing to anything and everything we wanted done on the day! On the day itself, we had booked the toastmaster which was the best thing we did, he was excellent and did all of the organising for us, as well as making the the overall feel of the wedding a bit more professional. There was also a head waiter put in charge of our wedding as well and he was fantastic, running around all day ensuring we had everything we needed. I was very impressed with this! The room itself was spacious, airy and bright, a huge plus for us. I was very hot under a big dress so was delighted to see they even had huge industrial fans which were a god send, and even better on the dance floor later that evening where it was packed and hot. The food was excellent, a good sized portion and HOT which is really important to me...and it was clear it was fresh and home made. Everyone commented how good it was which I was delighted with as people always remember the meal they had at a wedding... As we got married on a Friday, we were incredibly lucky that there was only one other small wedding that day downstairs and that it didn't clash with our wedding party at all. I would suggest to anyone booking a large wedding that they think about how many other weddings are also booked on their day, as I only realised afterwards that it would have been chaos if the big barn had been booked (as this holds 200-400 people) on top of the 170-ish people we had to our day. The overall cost to have such a big wedding here was excellent when compared with other venues, so this was a huge plus for us, however I can see that they can go out at these prices for the very reason that they can pack in as many as 3-4 weddings in one day, so be warned. Overall though, it was fantastic and I wouldn't have changed a thing about the day and the venue. Thoroughly recommended.

My husband and I got married on the 27th October and had our wedding breakfast and evening reception at 'The High Rocks' in the 'Great Hall Barn' we had a truely fantastic day, even before the wedding the staff could not do enough to help us, there are many different function rooms but for larger weddings the barn is stunning, you can hire big candleabres and candles to give a lovely intimate romantic feel. Even though the weather wasn't perfect we were still able to go up to the rocks and get some stunning photos that are completely unique the grounds are beautiful. The food was exceptional good size portions, hot and everybody ate together which is unheard of at weddings, we had soo many complements. The staff have a lot of character Italian and full of life and laughter they were faultless on the day I am quite a perfectionist but everything was done exactly how I wanted and planned it. Food was fab - u - lous and could not be faulted in any way. I noticed that the family party was vey well catered for, especially the children nothing seemed to be too much trouble. After lunch we went out to the garden where we had coffee. That was maybe the only downer of the day- The barman wasn't very friendly- that's not to say he was unfriendly- just that after the excellent service and camaradie of the Restaurant staff - he wasn't up to their standard!Watching the steam train go by at the bottom of the garden was a great novelty with every one in the garden and on the train waving at each other- just like a scene out of The Railway children.HIgh rocks itself is across the road from the restaurant and pub and is stunningly beautiful with most of nthe rocks being linked together by 12 wooden bridges - although we stopped at 10.It was fascinating to read the carvings on the rocks and some of them date back to the late 19C - one dating back to the Boer war.. We went to the High Rocks for a fantastic family event. I have to admit it was a lovely place set in a lovely location. The staff at the venue where extremely professional and food was some of the best I’ve ever had we really did enjoy ourselves until we found out about disabled access. Both my parents are disabled and completely struggled to even get through the front door. When we sat down in the reception a waiter come round and asked if we could make are way to the conservatory for drinks... Sadly our family could not walk the 70 step down to the conservatory so we said to the poor bloke “ Sorry mate we are not going down there” so everyone stayed where they were! The down side which really did put a dampener on this wonderful event is that they had no disabled lifts for all the stairs they had. We were to eat on the first floor passed the main reception. Both my parents who struggle to walk took a couple of minutes to get up these extremely steep steps even with both sons helping them. During the event my mum required the toilet. We were shocked to find that the toilets where two flights of stairs up on the top floor. This took my poor old mum over 30 minutes to get up there. We were then told that there is disabled toilet right next to the main reception (Wish they told us sooner). Sadly there was still step to get back down but only one flight. One of the main distressing facts that we found out on the night they do not even have any medivac chairs encase of any emergency. Having all those stairs you would have thought health and safety would kick in?I would have marked this place excellent but sadly because they are still stuck in the dark ages and have nothing for disabled members of the public for all the extremely stairs I am going to have to mark them down a lot.

11 of us had lunch last Sunday and all thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The venue is wonderful and the pianist added tremendously to the experience, as did the friendly staff. We have been many times over the years and Luigi and his staff have never let us down. The food is always reliably good and the set 3 course Sunday lunch menu is great value. We have been to many celebrations at High Rocks with different sets of people and everyone has always come away saying they had a wonderful time. In fact, I have never heard any criticism, whether it has been a wedding reception, special birthday/anniversary celebration, Jazz lunch, Mothering Sunday - they never fail to deliver good food, good value and good service.

Thank you so much for making it such a wonderful occasion for my husband and I. You cannot imagine the compliments that are still coming in about the whole event, venue, food, free flowing drink and off course the bride and groom of 40 years!!It was a truly memorable occasion, one we will remember for many years to come. Thank you so much for the complimentary canapes and the bread rolls on the table. The staff handled any slight diversity that came along without hesitation and SO professionally. Even when some guests arrived unexpectedly they rearranged tables within minutes for us. Sadly, my Mum wasn't there, she used to come to High Rocks for picnics as did many of my Aunts and Uncles (who were there). One guest commented on his highlight was to see 3 steam trains going through (even though it was raining)!

We went here for our Christmas party and it was terrible. The owners are obviously very greedy and had crammed as many people as possible into the room. You were literally back to back with the other tables and it was very hard to even get up to go the loo. We had to wait for over 40 minutes just to get a drink from the bar. The management had confirmed that there were 21 people in our party but had only put out places for 20. Someone had to get stuck on the end of the table where waiters were constantly trying to squeeze past.. Our starter was served at 9pm but our main course didn't actually arrive until 10.30pm and even then some of the food was cold. We were the 'treated' to some of the loudest music I have ever heard so that you couldn't even talk to anyone on the same table. Terrible place, terrible service. Would never go here again

The food here was excellent. All the staff were pleasant and funny and provided a great service. I recommend the roast beef, and home made yorkshire puddings! I will be paying High Rocks another visit when I'm next in Kent on a sunny sunday

I had my wedding reception at high rocks in July and it was magic. In fact, I am still recovering; it was so brilliant it feels as though I dreamt this fairytale event! The place itself is beautiful and secluded (in a good way), the food was great (especially the huge buffet we had in the eve), the staff were all friendly and everyone had a wonderful time. It could have easily been a VERY stressful day but the relaxed atmosphere and high level of organisation and experience from the venue made MY (and as you can see, I stress the word 'my') day fantastic. I look forward to returning for my anniversary and thank you all at the high rocks so much!

We attended a wedding here which is why it's a shame to give it a poor review. On arrival the staff were slow and rude. The first round of drinks was ordered and the barman punched several random numbers into the till. When challenged we found he'd overcharged by £8. Not a big deal until we realized he was doing this to all the guests. Funny that we were all Police Officers!!The food was bland and the staff were a little too familiar to the guests. Several if the staff had serious body odour which is unacceptable in the service industry. Overall a poor representation of an amazing venue. With time, money, some form of management and a little passion this venue would be amazing. It lacked all of the above. A great day but awful experience.

We had heard great things about this local restaurant, and it enjoys unrivalled views, complete with steam railway station at the bottom of the huge garden. We had a party of six, including a small child, and it threw the kitchen staff when we ordered a "Bacon, brie and tomato baguette" with no bacon. However, on arrival (which was exceptionally quick!), neither of the two "bacon, brie and tomato baguettes" had a sign of tomato! Not a problem, easy mistake, except that when the waiter returned he was unapologetic and told us "the chef insists it doesnt come with tomato". Even after pointing at it in the menu the chef was adament it was our 'mistake', but gave us a complementary plate of tomato slices. The sad thing is that for such a wonderful, almost magical location, you would expect to receive what you ordered, and not to have an insulting conversation with an Im right, youre wrong waiter. Prices were good value, cheesecake was tasteless and bland, and Id sooner eat my shoe than another steak baguette. All in all a strange place. I cant over emphasise the location, beautiful! Just beware of the staff, and expect faults that wont be rectified without a struggle.

We visited the High Rocks Hotel to celebrate my sister's 50th birthday on the 18th April 2008.We have visited this Hotel/ Restaurant several times in the past , and always been pleased at the level of service received. However , on this visit we were in for a shock !We had our meal, which to be fair was very nice. But then when we came to pay the bill, they added £50 as a 'cake cutting fee'.To explain, My Mother made and decorated a birthday cake for my Sister. We took it with us to the Hotel and put it in the hands of the staff there.Later in the evening ,the staff bought out the cake with 5 candles literally pushed into the icing and lit them, the cake was then left on the table for my Sister to cut and serve to anyone that wanted it.When we were presented with the bill , £50 was added as a 'cutting' fee. After what turned into a 20 minute row with the management they agreed to reduce the price to £28,still an absolute rip off, but better than £50 !!This is a real shame as i have given this Hotel a good review elsewhere. I will not return here again as i do not like being ripped off like this, and to be honest the managements attitude was awful, waving his finger and shouting at me.As a result of this they have lost regular customers, and all because of their greed.!!

Great food and service from Adam we did an overnight stop for dinner in our Motorhome. Lovely decor and ambience. Nice to find a business sourcing local produce and we thought good value for money given the quality of the food and presentation. The only downside was the discretionary 12.5% service charge. We always reward great service with a tip and always object to this being added on especially 12.5%! That said Adam was charming and very gracious when we challenged 12.5%

Great food, good service, but unfortunately, rather noisy. We had to talk loudly which compromised conversation.

We dined here for Sunday lunch. We hadn't booked in advance, but a table for 4 was available. We all had mains and a dessert. The food was delicious and generous. The service was excellent. We would highly recommend. We will be visiting again.
