horror! horror! horror!

Above average, been twice. Varied menu, lots of starters. Good pasta, pizzas, fish and steak dishes. A bit cramped inside, narrow but a long restaurant. Can dine outside Al fresco. Prices a little high, good desserts and service. Would return,

Good and tasty italian dishes and friendly service! It is a simple and great local option. The pizza is a great size for the value.

Ate here in a very large family party for a diamond wedding anniversary celebration. Staff were friendly and accommodating, made a real fuss of the couple who were celebrating and were lovely with the babies. Food was good - old fashioned Italian restaurant.

I regularly go to this restaurant as it is my personal favourite in Wanstead and I love both the food and the lively atmosphere. I have always found the service to be good and all the staff to be lovely. Often I visit this restaurant with my disabled mother and they couldn't be more helpful and kind to her. However busy they may be and on any night they always manage to find a table for us.

This is the kind of restaurant that everyone wants round the corner. The food is authentic Italian, yummy and not expensive. I have eaten here many times. My favourites include tuna and bean salad, crab ravioli and any of their seafood. The service is fab and they are so good with young children - not many restaurants are! This is one of my favourite restaurants of all time.

This local restaurant was full on a Tuesday night which was a good sign. The decor is cosy and filled with memorabilia from Italia. The staff were friendly and welcoming. It seems to cater well for large groups. We managed to be seated quite quickly and enjoyed some Nero D'Avola while waiting for our meal to arrive. The grilled eggplant on toast with Parmesan cheese was a tasty starter. The spaghetti puttanesca was a delicious main. This was my first visit and I would definitely go back.

We have been here 3 or 4 times now, twice when other local places (Provender and Belgique) were too busy/slow respectively for us to eat there despite having booked. The staff aren't bland waiters and waitresses; they have a bit of spirit and personality, which we like, and like a bit of a joke with their customers which makes it a bit more of a personal experience. From our experience, they are accommodating even when busy and will fit you in if they possibly can, the service is fine, the food is always good and reasonably priced. It feels cosy and bustling. We like the decor with all the wine bottles precariously hanging from the rafters. We'll definitely go back.

We dropped in to Gioberti's in Wanstead High Street on a Friday evening. They were busy but found us a table quickly. We both enjoyed huge rib-eye steaks with a delicious sauce, plus chips cooked in goose fat - yummy - and a selection of Mediterranean veg. followed by tiramisu. The waitress suggested their house red, which was also a great "find". We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience here and will certainly go again. Both the food we had and the wine were excellend and not overpriced, and plenty of other diners were rapidly filling up Gioberti's by the time we left.

booked table for 5 with a toddler and baby. arrived to be told I had to wake my sleeping baby and could put him 'on the wooden bench' as an open pushchair in an empty restaurant would incur a fine or get them closed down! we left and had a delicious meal in another italian towards snaresbrook where they were delighted to have 2 children and were great hosts. shameful nonsensical excuses, not hospitable or very italian behaviour.

We live locally to this restaurant and have had wonderful pizza there in the past. We have probably been there about 5 times in all.But I do have to agree with the other recent reviewer who found the food overpriced and horrible.I ordered tagliatelle with chicken/cream sauce. It was not only stodgy, with the pasta overcooked, but I am convinced the chef added neither salt nor pepper to the dish. If he had bothered to taste it before sending it out, he would have known that. The dish cost £12, and I ate half of it ... and I'm sorry now that I didn't complain and send the food back.My partner had a more tasty dish of chicken breast with mushrooms and mash, and that was reasonably tasty, but cost a hefty £14!Sadly, we'll never go back to Gioberti's in Wanstead. The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere, and the staff are friendly and efficient, but unfortunately, the food has taken a nosedive and the place, therefore, does not deserve our patronage. We should have eaten at home!

This is very local to me, and despite continual disappointments, I have often returned as it is covenient, has a good buzzy atmosphere and cheery staff, The food is, in the main, diabolical.I long since abandoned anything but the pizza/pasta, as the starters are ridiculously overpriced - £7-8 for over-ripe avocado or calamari out of a packet. Mains are similar school-dinner-ish, with overcooked veg. Pizzas did used to be good (though pricey), but on my previous visit they had obviously run out of mozzerella and had used some sort of hard cheese, which was so wrong it was appalling. Side salads are as uninspired as could be - "mixed" consists of a couple of lettuce leaves, chunk of cucumber and a halved tomato. "Green" is the same without tomato. Called in with friends for a quick Friday night pasta and glass of wine. I had linguini al speck, which was drowned in oil and smelled sour and off. I ate it, and thought I may regret it. No after effects as it turned out, but not pleasant. Friend has penne with tuna, which was somewhat better. Wine is pricey too - house is about £14 and rough - and we always go up the list a little. Go starter, main course, half a bottle of wine and you can easily end up about £35 which is steep for basic cafe grub like this.It saddens me to slate a local eatery, but it annoys me how this place rests on it's laurels. It's been here for donkey's years, has the best spot on the High St, and is always busy because it has no immediate competition. I've nothing against old skool Italian if it's good - they should sample La Porchetta Pollo in Old Compton Street, which is a similar no-frills cafe yet manages to serve great, fresh food at about 60% of Gioberti's prices. And cope with Soho rent. The differentce is that it's surrounded by competition. Wanstead is crying out for a nice, reasonably priced Italian serving genuinely fresh, tasty food. Gioberti's have had it their own way for far too long. Somebody needs to take them on (and there's a vacant restaurant very close at the moment!).

This is a REAL local restaurant. We've been perhaps ten times over the past few years and have never been disappointed. The same staff are always on duty, and are invariably excellent. It's small and gets busy, but it always feels friendly and they're great with children. The food is just what you'd expect from a local Italian – nothing unexpected, but it's all done well and the portions are so generous that our kids always need a box to take the remains of their pizzas home.

This is a wonderful, family run Italian restaurant oozing with character, perfect for a relaxed meal out and excellent value for money.Gioberti's has so much atmosphere and charm, and is full of colour - just like stepping into Italy! The service is fantastic, both when we visit on a Saturday evening and mid-week, and the staff are so full of energy and fun! There is a great selection of pizzas and pastas, as well as daily specials. If you are sitting at the far end of the restaurant, you can even see the chefs making the pizzas! The food is beautiful - lovely, fresh ingredients and perfect portion sizes. We highly recommend the homemade tiramisu for dessert - the best we have ever had!

We regularly make a 25 mile journey to eat here. The quality of the food is excellent (the Calzone pizza is fabulous) and the portion sizes very generous. The staff are always friendly and welcoming even when the restaurant is busy which it invariably is. This is a no frills restaurant but I have no hesitation in recommending it. In fact, we have taken friends there and they have subsequently frequented it on their own accord.

Being from the local area, I've been eating at Gioberti on and off for a number of years now and always enjoy a return visit. I recently visited on a Saturday night with a reserved table for 7.30, and just as well as it is always very busy in the evening. The service is friendly and efficient but not intrusive, and the food of a generally very good standard. I had the penne con salmone fresco and my boyfriend the tagliatelle verdi con pollo. both were extrememly tasty and the pasta particularly well cooked. My only criticism would be, they really do pack the tables in and it can feel a little crowded when you are eating, so doesn't always have that feeling of an intimate dining experience that you would like from a local Italian. It is also slightly on the expensive side, but you do get a lot for your money. Would recommend it to anyone visiting the area, and will certainly be back myself.

We just wanted drinks, starters and desserts. After ordering drinks we were told you had to order "at least one main course". We looked at the menu and decided we didn't want to so we told the waitress we would just pay for the drinks and leave. The restaurant was half empty so why they insisted on this and lost our business I have no idea. There was then magically a £10 minimum spend to pay by debit card so we had the hassle of walking to a cash point to get cash. Rude staff, pointless rules. Don't go.

Had a lovely meal at Gioberti, felt like I was back in Venice whilst I was inside until I left the restaurant. The food was lovely and the staffs were polite and very helpful. I ordered MOZZARELLA FRITTA which are a must have if you eat meat!!!!I have been to this restaurant several times and it has always been overcrowded as it is pretty small therefore I made reservations for an earlier time so I would avoid eating in a overcrowded restaurant only to get to the restaurant and begin to eat and have the staff seat others people right next to us. This was the only thing that annoyed me about this restaurant. Also the staff have an annoying habit of walking up to the door/window have a good stare outside.

Visited London to see a friend and she booked a table at Gioberti for 8pm Saturday night. When we arrived it was packed with people waiting to be seated. People were pushing and shoving their way through and there seemed to be no discernable protocol for getting people seated - shouting the loudest seemed to work!Once seated the restaurant seemed to clear a lot and there were a few empty tables which made for a nicer environment. It took about ten minutes for someone to take our drinks order and another ten for someone to take our food order. The starter was nothing like the menu description - mozzarella wrapped in prosciutto on garlic crostini looked like cheese and toast a child would make. Definitely not worth the price. The mashed potato with the main course was supposed to be flavoured, but unless 'lumpy' is a flavour then it definitely wasn't. Both of my friends has the calzone and they were both badly burnt on the top which they tried to hide with tomatoes. The one redeeming feature of the evening was the waitress - she was lovely and very helpful when it came to ordering a taxi for us. Usually we would sit and have some coffee and a chat after a meal but we were all quite disappointed with the evening. Other reviewers seem to love the place but perhaps there isn't much choice in the area for Italian food? The prices were standard for a mid-range Italian although more than I am used to paying for average food! I would not go back if I visited this area again.

Visited this restaurant for the first time earlier this year with a friend and booked it for my boyfriend's birthday as he loves italian food. The service is good, the food tastes great and the staff are really friendly and obliging. I arranged to drop off a birthday balloon and small cake, they provided a candle and even the kitchen staff joined in to change a small birthday celebration into a really special event. There is a varied menu but it is not so large as to make you feel you cannot make a choice. I have been told their pizzas are great. I chose a fish dish which was lovely, and boyfriend said his pasta dish was delicious. We had some great wine followed by cake and coffee. Booking is recommended as it does get very busy and I think they have two sittings in the evenings although this has not been a problem. A really lovely place and I am looking forward to another visit soon.

Can get a little squashed and you wonder if its worth the loo visit trying to get through the sea of chairs, but the food is good. Prices are reasonable. Visit for birthday and service was very rude. Slow service and then pushed to leave very quickly although we asked if we had time for dessert, they said yes, we were given 10 mins and bill handed as i ate. Told them it was my birthday and waiter shrugged his shoulder. They DO NOT like large bookings beyond 4, don't say that at booking then made us feel unwelcome with our prearranged 12 person booking. Big shame. But will not bother again.

Pizzeria Bel Sit is one of our favourite Italian restaurants. We have been many times and the food is just consistently incredible. Service is great with friendly and fun staff. Parking can sometimes be tricky but you will eventually find something. The atmosphere is certainly vibrant and can get very loud when busy. You cannot reserve and if you don’t turn up at opening time the wait for a table can be long (I have waited over a hour on a couple of occasions) however you can have drinks while waiting. Prices are higher than average however for the quality it’s well worth it.
