Ginger Dog in County Durham

Very friendly welcome and fantastic service throughout our visit. We were a large group of kids and adults and the staff went out of their way to be friendly and helpful, catering to our fussier members too. Fantastic food and loads of it. The service was incredibly quick too especially given the large number of us. Thoroughly recommend.

Excellent lunch, friendly service, nice decor, clean toilets. They were happy for us to share a baguette. It came with an excellent salad, coleslaw & fantastic fat chips. Great place to stop close to the A1.

Visiting the area, and booked the Ginger Dog. What a lovely night, from start to finish. Well presented and tasty food is a win win, but the wonderful staff who served us-Tracey and Maria, really were the icing on the cake with a cherry on top ❤️ Really hope to return one day in the future. Travelling North on the A1 and needing a lunch stop. We didn’t necessarily want to call at a service station . Looked up nearby places to eat and up popped he The Ginger Dog. What a fab place , street parking, wonderful interior, friendly staff . My husband had Cornbeff pie which came with home cooked chips, peas and gravy. I choose the Chicken Flat Bread , which came with salad, coleslaw and home made chips. The flatbread was beautiful, with peppers, onions, mushrooms and chicken with I think was Asian spice. Beautifully cooked and presented . Well worth a stop .

I visited yesterday with family to celebrate my Mother in Laws' 90th Birthday and WOW!!! What can I say but from start to finish our experience was top notch. My Mother in law is particularly hard to please and she loved it. The beef was amazing, I believe that the owners also have the award winning Butchers just 2 doors down the street and you can tell. The gravy was thick and rich and reminded me of My Grans home cooked Sunday Dinner. The veg was cooked to perfection and the Yorkshire puddings were huge. The deserts were amazing, we had the sticky toffee pudding and the red velvet cake which were so full of flavour. The staff couldn't have been more helpful keeping us informed of a slight wait for our food which is to be expected when everything is freshly cooked for you. This is not fast food - Its great food. The price was also very reasonable for such obvious quality.

Went for Sunday lunch with family group of 9 , heard loads of good reviews however our expectations didn't live up to the reviews, service was slow and poor ,food was OK vegetables came out 10 minutes before the meat and Yorkshires so was cold gravy was too rich and was like tar, our party waited 40minutes for food to arrive, tried the desert sticky toffee pudding ,very average, I know everyone has different tastes and experiences, unfortunately this wasn't for us and probably won't be returning, and for the price I would expect everything to be bang on ,wasn't the worst meal I've had but neither was it the best 6/10

Chose this from TripAdvisor for family get together over mid week lunch, all travelling from different directions, so convenient just off A1, dog friendly area, and previous v good reviews. We weren't dissapointed at all: * friendly welcoming staff * clean and nicely done out pub * good choice on traditional pub grub menu, all freshly prepared and cooked * owner is the local independant butcher so first class meat * we all chose something different and thoroughly enjoyed the food and drinks * sfaff all came to see our dogs and to spoil them with attention * very friendly and chatty locals Would highly recommend, good meeting point for business meetings and we'll certainly be back. You can park for up to 4 hours free at the village hall opposite.

Amazing food. I can fully recommend the liver and bacon casserole. Warm and friendly service with a smile. Lovely and cosy setting. Heartily recommend.

We held a family christening at The ginger dog Highly recommended First class food ,service and atmosphere. Superb choice of cakes .Shout out to the hard working staff Nothing was a problem, most welcoming and we had the most amazing weather, which allowed us to sit in the open air space very comfortably. Definitely book again

We booked a table very last minute and the staff were able to get us in. The food was absolutely amazing and very well priced. We had mains, desert a bottle of wine and some additional drinks and the bill only came to £70 which we thought was amazing value for money. Staff were super kind and attentive to every little detail and were happy to help. The music and ambiance had a really warm feel. Cannot wait to go again!!

Visited for Sunday lunch with friends first time dinner was nice service was good friendly waiting staff fairly expensive though bit cramped with tables close together and plates and bowls of food for dinner not enough room but a charming pub desserts bit pricy all in all fair first visit M

We thoroughly enjoyed the “Rat Pack” night. The two course Christmas dinner was absolutely delicious. The service was spot on, as usual. The staff work tirelessly to ensure you have the best night possible. We are lucky to have such a gem of a place on our doorstep!

My husband and I visited for the first time last week. We were warmly greeted by Vanessa, Despite the restaurant being busy and we hadn't booked she managed to find a table for us. The atmosphere is great, there's a very well stocked bar and the food both sweet and savoury looked delicious. We had a refreshing cup of tea and a really tasty cheese and onion toasty as well as a portion of the delicious chips. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Vanessa made us very welcome and by the time we left we felt like old friends! She' an asset to the place. We'll definitely be back.

First time at The Ginger Dog today for a birthday bash. Roast dinner and sticky toffee pud were amazing. Part of a large party and the service was amazing. Would highly recommend !!!

What a find! We were travelling to Belford Northumberland and stopped off for food and a rest. Found this pub after we googled nearest dog friendly pubs off the A1. Staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. Loved our dogs and plenty of buscuits were had! Lovely pub interior, clean and spacious. We arrived at the end of service, but Norma gave us several options. We chose one shepherd's pie, one lasagne. These meals were fresh, hot and delicious. Proper home made food. Highly recommend this pub. Wish we could have stopped later, as Dolly Parton tribute was due!!! Thanks to all of you. See you on next trip!

A Sunday well spent brings a week of content and what better way to do this than a late afternoon/early evening at The Ginger Dog with good friends, snacks and a few bevvies whilst listening to some fabulous music with a live artist. This week was the fabulous Karl Herbert. Fully booked but the staff remain cheerful and helpful e en when under pressure. Always best to pre book as they are so busy especially on a Sunday or when they have live artistes.

Turned up Sunday afternoon picked a table and order was taken, a few minutes later a rather rude and loud lady member of staff informed us that as we had not booked a table we would have to leave as they did not have enough food to feed us , nowhere could we see on the signs outside it was booked tables only . Disappointed and definitely won’t be venturing back . We found a lovely pub called The Avenue where we had a very enjoyable meal and would recommend them .

We visited for a family birthday Sunday lunch on 18 August. The food was excellent with top quality meats, beef was delicious, and veg which were served piping hot by a lovely friendly team. Highly recommend for the best lunch we've had recently in the new conservatory.

This is my 3rd time here for Sunday dinner, food is perfect every time, staff are always friendly and straight over to take our order, less than 10 minutes to get our dinner, i think ive found my new place for Sunday dinners 😋

Amazing atmosphere and food and the ladies, Maria and Tracy could not have been more helpful; attentive and friendly. Highly recommend not just for the great food but the exceptional staff!

We recently had a large company meal, and it was outstanding. Despite our group size, the service was impressively fast and efficient. The food was amazing, and beautifully presented.
