Gigi's in Mendip

A really, really poor meal unfortunately. Pasta tasted like it was from Tesco (the value range at that) and the sauce was weak and watery with little to no flavour. The sauce was advertised to come with king prawns and when it arrived they were so incredibly tiny! Imagine the shrimp you might get from Iceland supermarket. A traditional salad of tomato and onions was barely one tasteless, unseasoned tomato and half a sliced onion - no oil, vinegar or herbs to be seen. Pizza was okay... just and the wine was good but unfortunately these were the only "positives" to take away from the evening. Very, very disappointed, no wonder they were so quiet on a Friday night. Not what you expect for £20 per head meal for sure.

I originally wrote some years ago that this is probably the best food that you are going to get in Glastonbury. It's been 3 or 4 years since then but last night's visit confirmed that my view still holds. Strongly recommended.

I know this isn’t a vegan restaurant but I wanted to try it anyway because it just looked so good. And trust me when I say it really is that good. Quick service and decently accommodating too!

Excellent food. Decor is dated but it adds to the charm. Staff are super friendly and the food is just amazing. Highly recommend. Everything was sooo good.

Just the best Italian restaurant for miles around. The calzone is by far my favourite.

We cam in 4 adults for dinner, ordered the onion soup as starter which was perfect (i should have asked for the receipe). Main was a pizza margharita, 2 pasta dishes with seafood (marinara) and chicken breast, and one dish with beaf and rice. All were freshly made, perfextly done and very good. The dishes size was perfect. We then asked if they can make us Zavionne (an italian desert made of yolks, wine amd sugar) although it was not on the menu, they made it perfectly. A great Italian resturnt with perfect classic dishes.

Probably the best Italian restaurant meal I have had outside Italy, lovely friendly staff too. Will come back here again, and I'm a picky customer

I am someone who practically never gives poor reviews. But because of the complete lack of vegetarian/ vegan options on the menu, I cannot recommend Gigi's at all. There was only one vegetarian/ vegan pizza on the menu and when I asked whether the mozzarella cheese on other pizzas was vegetarian/ vegan , I was told no and was made to feel as though I was being difficult! So my pizza was like ratatouille served on a pizza base with no cheese but a lot of oil! Very poor for 2024! How difficult would it be to keep a block of vegan cheese in the fridge? Sadly, I won't be going back.

Nice food and good service, but please don’t over book tables, as three families waited over 30 mins for a booked table and please clean out those poor fishes. The very dirty tank put me off my food, but to help you can get a pleco fish which loves to eat that dirt up!

Excellent quality food - we enjoyed it so much we went back a week later for another meal. My only reservation was that the service was really slow - usually you get asked for your choice of drinks straight away to keep you occupied, but despite telling them several times we were ready to order, they still took ages to respond. Admittedly, it was busier the 2nd night, but then we might have drunk more had we had the opportunity!

I originally set out to have fish & chips on this Saturday evening as were at a motorcycle related event at the rugby club where the food was ordinary at best. The queues for fish & chips were horrendous. Gigi's looked fairly busy but had space for me on my own. Very friendly staff. I ordered a couple of lagers & a healthy salad for starters & ordered a capricciosa pizza for main. It all went down quite rapidly as had quite an appetite. I'd definitely eat here again if in Glastonbury.

Definitely the most average Italian food I've ever had. My party got pasta, pizza, and salads and none of it was impressive but rather quite disappointing for a 4.5 rated restraunt

Absolutely oozes authentic Italian charm 🇮🇹 It was packed on a Friday night, which to be expected for such a popular, long-standing restaurant. I lost count at the amount of handshakes and belly laughs that occurred among the staff and customers, this is clearly a restaurant that values the locals and regulars. Given the popularity, it's no surprise that the food was perfect, bold and flavourful. The menu is wide enough to cater to fussy and foodie alike, and family friendly too.

A great relaxed Italian restaurant, suitable for families, couples and groups. Service was good and food was bellisimo!

The food was lovely! We actually came here twice as we loved it to so much. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was the service. Although it was adequate it was very very slow. Painfully so almost. But the food was all excellent.

I booked a table at Gigi's following a recommendation from a friend. The reservation was for 2 - myself and my best friend (both females). On arrival, the initial friendly welcome as i walked in through the door changed dramatically when we were about to be seated.There were plenty of tables for 2 in the window area which we were being taken towards when a much older man came over and took over, shooing the first one away. He then insisted we follow him towatds the back of the restaurant where we were seated out of sight in a corner on a dark, tiny table. I was a bit baffled at first and on the way to the table he said some words in Italian to another member of staff and gestured at us dismissively. The member of staff looked a bit embarrassed. On reflection, i feel certain that the older man assumed we were a lesbian couple and therefore wanted us out of sight. The food was okay but the treatment really ruined it for me. I felt sorry for any genuine gay couples that visit this restaurant and hate to think that this is how they are made to feel by bigoted individuals. I wiould never go back after this. Very poor attitude and service.

The food was appalling for restaurant standards; the meat balls spaghetti tasted and looked like it was taken out of a tin and heated. The Risotto was oily without flavour. For a £15 dishes, it was insulting. Do yourself a favor and don't eat at Gigi's in Glastonbury!

Good family restaurant, my kids loved it, husband was impressed, I found my fungi pizza slightly saltier than I would have liked. And the selection of vegetarian and vegan food is a little limited. The mushroom risotto for example is made with chicken stock, which feels like a trick missed. I didn't note any vegetarian mains. Service was insanely fast though and very friendly. Overall I would definitely recommend it.

Stopped here by chance , and would totally recommend the pizza here. Beautiful light pizza freshly made with delicious toppings. The atmosphere was nice and relaxed, and the service was attentive but not imposing. The deserts were delicious , recommend the pistachio profiteroles and the biscoff cheese cake . Which waswashed down with a lovely coffee

Pleasantly surprised by this Italian in the heart of Glastonbury town. I didn't expect much but was really pleased with how fresh and tasty the food is. We had pizza and pasta between, sat by the kitchen we could see the chefs having a good time preparing food and teasing the waiting staff. Very friendly service only let down by the fact it took three attempts and 20 minutes to get our bill at the end.

The food is absolutely outstanding, the staff are lovely. Feels like you are actually in Italy with the decor. Lovely place

It's been over 20 years since my last visit only had chance to grab a takeaway pizza and wow best authentic pizza for years... Feeling full and very happy. Highly recommend

The food here is terrible, I had the cannelloni it was well over cooked and definitely microwaved, was like a set custard and the mince was a disgusting grey colour! Wish I'd taken a photograph. If you want a nice Italian meal, GO SOMEPLACE ELSE@

Unfortunately the personal isn't friendly. We just did the order and the next few minutes come administrator and said to us that all that you ordered that is not enough and you have to order something else. Started rudely explaining to us that and arguing with us. So we were in shock.

The mood of our company was greatly spoiled by the administrator. We met the sunset on Thor Hill and before heading to London we decided to have a quick snack and decided to eat some pizza. After we ordered 2 pizzas for 4 adults and one child, the manager came up to us and rudely stated that “he wants us to order more food because he is stealing money.” We were shocked by this statement. We politely explained to him that it was not our plan to hold a party in this cafe. We have never before or since encountered such greed and bad manners. Perhaps this is a personal factor in the administrator’s upbringing.

I am outraged! The service is terrible. We came to eat pizza, 3 adults and 2 children. We ordered 2 pizzas. The waiter came up to us and said that for 5 people this is a very small order and they are doing business, not giving alms. And that this is the last time they will serve us with such a small order... I have never heard anything in any other establishment.

Popped in for a quick nibble with my daughter and sister in law. Pizza was stunning, fresh and the perfect cheese pull. Didn’t get time to take a photo as it smelt so good. Friendly fast service so perfect for a pit stop.

So good and not even Gordon Ramsey could change the authenticity of this wonderful family owned business. Go there and enjoy what they all work hard to archive 👍👍👍

Went in for our daughter's 5th birthday after she choose GiGis. Great to see mid week and busy. Excellent service from reception to leaving, everyone there could not do more to make it a better experience. Daughter felt included and can't wait to come back. The pizza is amazing. Hands down the best Italian restaurant in the area. Will be making more of an effort to visit more often.

I am not from around here so I was looking for something to eat & figured I would try this place. Wish I hadn't bothered - I was not overly impressed. The restaurant itself is very pleasant & the waiters were all very welcoming & accommodating however I do not rate the food very highly. I ordered a small portion of spaghetti bolognese & I did not have long to wait for it which rather surprised me. Anyway, I ate a couple of mouthfuls & felt that it was way too peppery for a meaty dish so I commented on it. The waiter was willing to exchange it for something else so I agreed to have the Tagliatelle crema funghi instead. This dish was also very disappointing. It was rather bland & mediocre. Maybe my menu choices were not good but I have had far better Italian food in other places so I am sorry I personally wouldn't come back here again.

Been coming to Gigi's since I was a boy. Now I bring my kids and its as good now as it was then. Excellent food, fantastic service and the friendliest of staff.

Found Gigi via Trip advisor and given the positive ratings thought we'd give it a go. Certainly lived up to its billing, while tradiotional in terms of decor, we found Gigi's to be lively for February evening (Tuesday) in Glastonbury. The decor was 'traditional' if not a tad dated but don't be put off by that. The welcome was warm, friendly and the food was superb! Does what it says on the tine - good traditional Italian food. Pizza, lasagne and calzone were our main courses of choice and before that a rather splendid plate of Calamari and garlic mushrooms to share - cooked in view and very quick. All in, a highly enjoyable experience and recommended.

booked here for my husbands birthday. The staff were excellent and very welcoming, it was busy and the staff coped well with this attending to everyone. the food was very tasty and the desserts where incredible. Would highly recommend eating here if in the area, booking advisable as seems popular.

Over the last 20 years l have dined here 5 times (might not seem many, but l do live in Birmingham). Without a doubt it’s one of the best Italian restaurants 😻😻

Very busy during Glastonbury carnival but managed to get a table. Very good pizza! Siciliana a lovely pizza complete with cracked egg in the centre. Very good pizza's we travelled up from Cornwall for the carnival and ate here based on a friends prior experience. Very good indeed.

Food was rustic and family friendly a Christmas get together with the Gentleman at the local Catholic church, service was very busy and they managed to handle the pressure easily.

Excellent, traditional Italian restaurant; latest meal here of quite a few; lived in the town for a couple of years 2009/11 though always visit when back in town. Food is always on point - a la carte and specials, especially, for me, the fish specials. Pizzas the best. Quality wines. Service professional, friendly.

Ate here last night for the second time as I enjoyed so much last time. Brought my daughter with me this time and we weren't disappointed. Once again we found the staff funny and extremely friendly. The food was amazing with generous portions and beautifully cooked. Can't wait to come back again. Would definitely recommend this lovely restaurant but make sure you book as they get really busy.

We walked in on a Saturday evening for a table for two. Booking is recommended as we waited an hour to be seated. Staff were friendly and worked hard as it was a busy shift. Food was average. I had a pizza, I felt the tomato base was a little bland but can’t comment on the other items. Enjoyed the pizza base. Would have liked some chilli oil, garlic and oregano. Thanks

Got takeaway pizza that was delicious. Little bit of a wait, but that's because they were busy, but worth it. I bet dining in as an even better experience.

Excellent service and tasty food. The staff were very friendly. Good food options. The decor could do with some updating and the food was very quick to come out. That is a good thing but makes you question how fresh it all was. However it tasted fabulous and no complaints from a mixtures of children, parents and grandparents so all 3 generations were happy.

Incredible!!! No children's menu, so recommend just choose one dish and share between 2 kids. Any unfinished food can be taken home.

After such a lovely experience in June we decided to return with two friends and everything from food to service was the polar opposite of our earlier visit. Our table ordered two capricciosa pizzas which arrived undercooked and with a microscopic amount of artichoke on both. My husband and our other friend ordered lasagne, one lasagne and the two pizzas arrived but only my husband’s side salad and garlic bread came, there had been some misunderstanding with the owner, who took the order, he said he hadn’t heard my husband order lasagne, he became belligerent and argumentative stating that he “never made mistakes “. Ten minutes after the rest of us had finished our meals the second lasagne arrived, it was inedible as a huge amount of salt had been added, deliberately? Obviously we don’t know but it seems suspicious that one lasagne had no excess of salt and the second made your eyes water it was so salty. The second lasagna was taken off the bill, most reluctantly, with the owner angrily restating that he never made mistakes and it was my husband’s fault! The rest of the staff seemed embarrassed by this display by their boss, we certainly were, awful evening, make sure you shout your order if you get the owner! Best pizza I’ve ever eaten. Hubby absolutely loved his lasagne. Can’t recommend highly enough. Also very reasonable pricing,. The servers were lovely. We will definitely be back .

Another wonderful evening at Gigi's, lovely food and wonderful ambience, always visit here when staying in Glastonbury, this time it was my Birthday and didn't disappoint.

We're not the best at booking so to be fitted in last minute was the best evening in ages. If you manage to get here make sure you get the minestrone it's one of the best versions of that soup I can get for miles.

Great Pizza and restaurant, but they really should discount Take-aways though to compete with Domino's and Papa John's. I paid £39 for 3 takeout pizzas. Not that they aren't great, but you could probably get 3 bigger Pizzas from elsewhere for under £30.

I've just had the most appalling dining experience due to one of the waitresses (dark hair) and her horrific attitude. I joined my friend late and pulled up a chair as her 2 person table didn't have the second chair. The table behind had no one dining at it, which didn't change for the majority of the meal. The waitress seemed to be outraged that I'd joined my friend late (I was putting up our tent). She took back the chair I was using and left me standing at the table, leaving me to search for another. Apparently the chair "belonged to the table behind" - the table with no one sitting at it! I had mentioned I wanted to order a drink. She refused to let me order when requested - totally ignored me. How is this waitress employed?! Someone needs to let her know about a thing called 'customer service'. My friend enjoyed her food hence the stars. Atmosphere was ruined due to this waitress' aggressive attitude. The one star for service should really be no stars. I finally got a friendly smile from the waiter who eventually took my drinks order. Probably a nice restaurant overall but given this bizarrely awful experience, won't be returning to risk another encounter with this abusive woman.

Last time I went was approximately 23 years ago, and last night we went for my sons birthday, still the same, excellent food, good service and a very good menu, the food is soooo good love it,will be back soon.

It’s like being in Italy in the 2000’s. The food is amazing and the staff will look after you and your family. Always had the best experience when visiting.

Food, wine & service excellent. Staff really look after you. Been lucky enough to visit Italian restaurants in northern Italy, the San Francisco Italian district, all over England inc London and Gigi's is still the best for me.

Fantastic authentic Italian grub and the staff were friendly and accommodating. Highly recommended for those who enjoy proper Italian food and atmosphere :)
