The hosts, Ken and Andzela, are very warm and welcoming are although the usual bar was being renovated during our visit there was still a good friendly local attendance in their temporary bar in the restaurant at the back of the hotel ( and the beer garden when the sun was shining) over the weekend we visited. We enjoyed a first class 3 course meal on Saturday evening - the local oysters are the best, fresh mussels cooked to perfection, and the lemon sole with brown shrimp I will be returning for again soon! Also great home made desserts , sticky toffee and chocolate fudge. We ate more than we intended but such good food, fresh local ingredients and generous portions it was hard not to! We will be back soon and thank you for such a lovely time ( also great coffee!)

We stopped off here for some coffee and scones before before going for some walks around the island. It was a lovely day, so we were able to sit outside and soak up the view back across to the mainland. It didn't take long for us to get served. Slightly dissapointed that the scones looked like a packet mix and not home made, but they still tasted good and set us up for our walk. The hotel is close to the ferry terminal, so an ideal place to visit before beginning an adventure.

Some months ago, we booked 2 rooms for a 2 night stay at the Gigha Hotel. We caught the 2pm ferry to Gigha and unfortunately a piece of plant machinery accidentally reversed into my car, the driver asked where we were headed and when we said Gigha Hotel, he informed us that it had been closed for about a week due to a Covid outbreak. We drove to the hotel and a young man with a foreign accent stuck his head through a skylight to tell us that the hotel was indeed closed, I asked him why we hadn't been informed about the closure and he couldn't answer. All other accommodation in the area was fully booked and we had to drive to Dumbarton before we found somewhere with a family room. Simply not having the common decency to inform us that the hotel was closed caused a huge amount of distress and expense, to eventually get back to Campbeltown to continue our holiday as planned, in total meant 4 totally unnecessary ferry journeys and around 200 miles of extra travel. Other people seemed to be in the same boat, none of us had been informed that the hotel was closed. I will never again visit this establishment where the management have so little respect for the clientele. Whoever owns this hotel, hang your head in shame, if of course you have any shame.

We had dinner in the Gigha Hotel recently and the food was fantastic. I have coeliacs disease so have to follow a strict gluten free diet and when I told the waiter he said he’d check what I could have with the chef. Before we ordered the chef came out himself to speak to me and let me know if my choices were safe and if there would need to be adaptations which was really reassuring that I was going to get a safe meal. I had scallops which were cooked perfectly to start then lemon sole with really fresh vegetables for my main. It was all delicious.

I live on a nearby Island and have worked in hospitality for years so was suprised to be greeted with an irate “you are late” upon arrival at the hotel - yes we were a few minutes late due to our boat being delayed, we of course tried to apologise profusely but it was not accepted. We sat in the garden which is very nice, great views. As we were handed our menus we were told “the kitchen want you to hurry” again quite shocked by this, I know this is not the famed island hospitality people look forward to. We ordered soft drinks and 2 simple and quick dishes although there was very nice dishes on the menu we would have like to try. Food itself was fine.We were not offered any deserts, further drinks, coffees etc We spent a total of £26 which is a shame as if we hadn’t been so rushed and uncomfortable we probably would have spent double that. Surely after the last 18 months any restaurant would want to make as much as possible from every customer not do the bare minimum and get them out the door?! Was also surprised to see chefs smoking in the garden around where customers eat and drink, never seen that before. This place was empty apart from us and the other restaurant in the village was jumping, booked solid all day and evening so maybe we weren’t the only ones to feel unwelcome

Service was fantastic prices not to bad for what you get , very off putting the arguments between the owner. of the hotel , mr Decon and a lady screaming and shouting at each other . The language that was being used was disgusting . This has put myself and partner off from revisiting the hotel ,

We were walking from Achamore gardens back to ferry and the hotel/restaurant is situated at the road with great view towards Kintyre peninsula and small yacht harbour on the isle. It was sunny day so we were sitting outside and the place was very good keeping social distancing rules during COVID. The waiter who served us was very polite, as we wanted only a small refreshment he advised to have scones and drink - which we ordered and it was tasty. Every guest kept COVID rules when going inside the hotel to pay the bill which was good to see.

When we arrived we were told it was light bites only but when the chef came out, he explained he was just about to close the kitchen. He must’ve seen how hungry we were as he made us something from the main menu anyway...! Glad he did as it was all very delicious with very good portions. Kids enjoyed their chicken nuggets and the sandwiches and soup were freshly made. COVID safe with only one other family inside. A bit rough round the edges with decor etc but don’t let that put you off. Food and service was very good and would happily come back.

A very warm feeling to this hotel great decor very traditional and homely Only 2 mins from ferry Plenty of parking here we parked two vans and a trailer out the front of the hotel still bags of room left Very high standard of cleanliness here plenty of hand wash stations My room was cosy and had a very comfy bed with en suite which were Spotlessly clean Very quiet here so I had a great sleep The staff were very attentive and polite The food I had was brilliant I am a big fan off fish and chips I ordered angel cut haddock and chips And out came a monster on a plate it was amazing the peas and tartar sauce were lovely too I don't really start a review with the main meal before the starter but in this case I would like to focus on the starter which was a simple crayfish cocktail but when it came it was something to behold the picture does not do it justice and makes it seem a smaller portion than what it was This was a little creative master piece on a plate This dish was really on point for me and the presentation told me that the chef is on top of his game So tasty!!! Well done chef I'm just sorry I didn't get to stay longer to try more dishes A very high standard Thank you all for making my stay a memorable one

We visited the Isle of Gigha for our 7th wedding anniversary and had booked lunch at The Boathouse however it closed earlier than usual for the season due to COVID-19. So we visited Gigha Hotel restaurant instead. My husband had the crab burger and I had the Gigha Steak and Ale Pie. My husband did say his burger was ok but incredibly greasy. The grease actually squirted out when he took the first bite. My steak and ale pie was absolutely awful. It was topped with cold pastry for a start which had never been cooked on top of the steak pie. The steak was mixed in with blue cheese. Now I love both steak and blue cheese but together in this “pie” it was awful and I couldn’t eat it. I felt they were trying to do something to make this pie more fancy but it was a complete failure. The table next to us had the fish and chips which smelled amazing and they seemed to enjoy so we were perhaps unlucky with our choices but I wouldn’t recommend anyone to try it. We also were greeted by quite a grumpy man at the front door however the staff taking our orders were pleasant enough.

I’m only giving four stars, as there were good points but failing ones too to this restaurant within the hotel. For instance, this restaurant has a lovely view and the waiter was lovely and attentive. My hubby had a starter which I shared. It was really nice, with prawn which may have been frozen and monkfish that I thought was fresh, not frozen. I really enjoyed this.My hubby had lobster which he said was good. Chips though were frozen not hand cut.I had fish and chips, which was not so good. Chips were frozen not hand cut. The batter of the fish was thick and oily and I was thus forced to eat only the fish in between, leaving the batter o the side. I had a side salad, which could have been lovely but had far too much dressing, thus I left most of this too. However loved the pudding which was cheesecake. My hubby shared this with me, as it was so good, he could not resist. I did tell the waiter I did not like the main course and salad. No reduction in bill though. I did not want to make a fuss, as he was lovely. The chef served me the pudding himself, which I thought was nice. As said, his starter and pudding were lovely. I would go back but avoid the fish and chips, plus I’d ask for dressing on the side.

Stayed here for 2 nights... whilst the accommodation is tired, it was perfectly acceptable for what we paid. The real surprise was the food we ate in their Hebridean Restaurant on one of the night. Amazing choice of starters and mains, plus an extensive array of Specials. When on an island that has access to the freshest of seafood... it’s got to be a first choice. We ate... scallops, Gigha (huge piece of fish) Halibut and the Mackerel... which were all cooked to perfection and had some unusual touches... just perfect. However, what was a real bonus was the lightness of the NY cheesecake... . No bought in deserts here!! All the staff in the hotel that we met were friendly and very welcoming! I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to you... and they are very accommodating with your dog!

There were three vegan choices on the varied dinner menu. Both evening meals were excellent. Rooms are very small but very clean linen/towels. Bathroom had a strong smell of damp and main hotel areas are run down and cluttered. No real resident’s lounge. The bistro menu is dated, a somewhat bizarre mix and expensive, especially compared to the wonderful Boathouse restaurant. Portions were large but a bit lacking in taste. Younger staff trying their best but owners seemed a bit indifferent to guests. All in all this place could be SO much better with just a bit more effort, especially given the great location.

Arrived here thinking about having a meal, and hoping to see some menus, but unfortunately the manager in the reception area couldn't deal with us at that moment as he was busily engaged in shouting loudly at one of his staff. Obviously giving this young man, who we later discovered came from Lithuania, a severe and public dressing down, had to take priority over dealing with the customers. The Island's only hotel, revamped in the 80's but now very tired decor and dated facilities. I overheard someone complain of damp in their room and rotten floor boards in a bathroom that they considered dangerous. Our water pressure in the bathroom was poor which is okay for a highland hotel perhaps not on mains water but I'm sure with more effort this could have been sorted. Most or the staff were from Lithuania which was reflected on with flags on the restaurant menu but did not inspire the food. A crab starter was small, using what I suspect was tinned crab drowned in balsamic vinegar, the sea bream on a bed of vegetables was one very small fillet with salad and both our first and second choice of wine was not available. Fish and chips were okay and would be my recommendation if you do choose to eat here. The white wine that was available was expensive and not chilled. The bar afterwards is small but was busy despite again being pricey. No real ale. Breakfast however was good with a pre-order card submitted the night before ensuring it was cooked to order with a nice selection of jams, some made locally. The only other thing that reflected modern day high standards was the price. Certainly I felt embarrassed about the impression of Scotland that would be give to foreign visitors. I would strongly encourage the Foundation who I understand now own the hotel and the management running it to step up a gear. As is, not a place we would want to return to looking perhaps, choosing B&B; or self catering if next visiting this delightful island.

Nice friendly atmosphere in the hotel that we looked in on for breakfast. Limited menu but what we ordered was freshly cooked and really hit the spot. Huge pot of coffee to share which really set us up for the day.Staff were pleasant and interested in our visit. Will definitely look in for dinner next time we are on the island.

Lovely spacious twin room with partial sea view..... good food at the evening meal.... pre ordered breakfast main was excellent and there was plenty of choice pior to it being served.... staff were pleasant and attentive and the management were always on hand.... and of course the evening entertainment was a wonderful bonus....This was a 5pm Deal with BB & Dinner and the set menu was sufficient for the deal.... but we were celebrating and paid extra for our eating preference...!

Complete menu, with plenty variety, all the meals were well cooked and presented. Prices are really reasonable : a clear recommended restaurant !

We found the restaurant very pleasing. Tables well spaced out, some with views to the sea. Staff friendly and efficient. Good Menu, with plenty variety, but personal preference would have liked more seafood options. Great value. All meals were well cooked and presented. Would definitely recommend.

Myself and my partner stayed in the Gigha Hotel for one night on 8th July. We have visited Gigha several times for day trips as we literally only live a few miles from the ferry terminal on the Kintyre side, however, we decided to book a deal with the Gigha Hotel and stay overnight. We had a lovely time on this beautiful island and were blessed with fantastic weather during our stay. The hotel is set in a beautiful location, it has a beer garden with stunning views and a relaxing atmosphere. Our room was spacious and clean with a lovely views to the side, I have to say the staff were very friendly and accommodating and we were made to feel very welcome. We had dinner in the restaurant which was part of our hotel deal and we thought all the food was delicious, including breakfast the following morning. We would certainly recommend eating here if visiting the island. All in all we had a great time and wished we had booked for two nights. The deal is fantastic and on that basis we will definitely book again if it becomes available, especially if theme nights are introduced.Looking forward to returning.

I first was in Gigha two years ago, i.e. in 2014, and came back this November, this time with a partner. I did not stay at the hotel this time round and therefore can only give my view on how the restaurant has evolved since then. From what I understand, the hotel has passed into private hands (it was community-owned at the time). My girl-friend and I dined here every night of our stay on the island, as it was the only option. We tried out a variety of dishes, all of which were cooked to a professional and very relishable standard. Last time I was in Gigha, the available food at the hotel could best be described as pub grub: fish and chips, burgers and whatnot. Not so now: there was a good choice of fish and meat dishes including curries, complemented by a fancy-looking wine list, but we both like our ales (I can recommend Colonsay 80 Shillings). We partook of a Chinese buffet with a miscellany of sweet and sour chicken and fish options, which was highly satisfactory, notwithstanding a sudden power cut which struck the whole of Kintyre and plunged us into darkness—the hotel luckily has its own generator. We also had a decent, traditional Sunday roast with bells on.As for the bar, this is still a meeting point for the local population, and it was nice to meet my friend and fellow Gaelic speaker John again. Bha mi toilichte gu dearbh d’fhaicinn a-rithist, agus chì mi thu aig àm air adhart, nuair a tillidh mi dhan eilean. They still have a broad selection of whiskies available. On the whole, ergo, I must say that this restaurant has visibly improved.

.We were fortunate enough to dine at the Gigha hotel when the chef from the Boathouse was doing a visiting stint at the hotel. We dined with a local who was a relative of ours which made the meal even more special. The steak with fries was recommended and it did not disappoint. This ranked with some of the best steaks we have had anywhere in the world at any price. Seared and done to a medium rare perfection. Happy coos in Scotland make great steaks. The fries were very good which is what you expect when things are fresh and local. It is refreshing when a second thought item in the states is elevated to a really tasty side dish. The wine list is well suited to the menu and has plenty of choices. The staff is friendly and very professional. This was truly a great meal. There is a bar and lounge at the hotel which gives you a chance to relax afterwards and enjoy a drink or two.

Embarrassing! Cold reception both temperature and staff personality. One of our drinks had a fly in it - no apology, not even an offer to replace it - just took the glass away with half a can of irn bru in it and brought a clean glass with (hopefully) fresh ice in it! The eastern european waiter never smiled once and looked sick of his life. Take our advice - give it a wide berth

On a day trip over to Gigha we tried this place for lunch and lived to regret it! The bar area was unwelcoming and no-one else was in - myabe that should have been a clue to leave! Very limited menu for lunch with basic pub fare, totally lacking in any fresh food from the area. I ordered the fish and chips, thinking that would be a safe option, but the fish was obviously frozen and very cheap, the fish was 3mm thick at the maximum, covered in hard breadcrumbs, dry and tasteless. My husband chose veggie lasagne which was completely inedible - unidentifyable lumpy cheese on top, revolting unidentifyable vegetables inside and pasta shoved into the dish any old how - really horrible and he coudn't eat it at all. I tried a bite and agreed it was horrible - we couldn't imagine how they had managed to make it taste so bad! The only edible thing in the meals were the oven chips. We quickly left and would never go back. If we would give it zero out of 5 we would! A waste of £25. DON'T GO THERE!

Reception gave poor initial impression. Room and en suite bathroom spacious (although our room appeared not to be typical). The heater in room was essential to dry wet clothes after walk in rain. Live music in restaurant (but we did not eat there). Breakfast was self service but adequate. A kipper, cooked to order, was excellent. The hotel bar, open to public, was small and devoid of atmosphere. This is the only hotel on the island, so there is little choice. Some competition might be beneficial.

We stopped for lunch here whilst visiting the island. We sat for 10 mins waiting on service. The barman seemed harassed when he showed up and he said he was on by himself grumpily, when he came to take our order for food. Fair enough, but a simple note at the counter would have sufficed to let us know to order food at the bar. Food was fine and was priced well though.Bit disappointing as had good memories of the place when I was young.

Unfortunately, the excellent and reliable Boathouse Restaurant on Gigha is closed on Wednesdays so we booked here. We had Hamburger - dry and tasteless, Halibut Goujons - really a fish finger on spagetti (it certainly wasn't pan fried) - dry and tasteless for £22!! but worst of all was the Mushroom Risotto which I am pretty sure gave me D's and V's for 24 hours. The doctors in our party thinking that it was probably Bacillus Cereus from re-heated rice. Really, just avoid the place until these reviews show that things have improved.....

It's a lovely island but apart from the Gardens there's nothing else to do 'inside', plenty of walks and shoreline scrambling though. So that makes the Hotel even more vital, and it certainly does not disappoint. Great place, lovely people and excellent food and drink. Why go outside at all?.

We ate here one evening during a 2 night stay on Islay in May. Having enquired earlier in the day about whether it was necessary to book, we were told they would prefer if we did, and we booked for 7.30pm in the Bistro (the other option being the restaurant). We arrived promptly and ordered quickly - halibut goujons with handcut chips, plus drinks. The room wasn't very warm nor particularly well lit. After about 20 minutes, one of the staff switched on the lights, plus a portable heater near to our table. The drinks took a while to arrive but that was nothing compared to the wait for the food. Around 8.15, the waitress told us that it wouldn't be much longer. Around 8.30, we complained to a male member of staff who was offhand and told us they were very busy. We pointed out that we were the only people in the Bistro! He replied that it was very busy in the restaurant and bar. After another 5-10 minutes, the food arrived - greasy goujons and average french fries, not handcut chips. Having eaten, I took a walk through to the bar and restaurant - there were approx 15 people in the bar and one table with four people in the restaurant! Frankly, the hotel's management needs a good shake-up, as the quality of both the service and catering was an embarrassment to a lovely island. The previous evening, we had enjoyed a truly fabulous meal at the other dining option on Gigha - how we wished we had returned there instead.

Spent Hogmanay on this lovely island and went for dinner on our last night. Food was poor. Temperature of food was too cold, scallop with cold black pudding - followed by fish and chips again cold. Young chef who was obviously doing his best so we paid up and left but wouldn't eat there again, what a shame!

Went in for lunch, and we were quite late - about 2.30pm. We were told we could have soup and/or sandwiches which was fair enough. The soup however was in a huge plate and a disgusting colour - it was pumpkin and turnip. We could not finish it, nor did we want to, but why could they not improve it's presentation with maybe a swirl of cream and some parsley

Wow, what can I say? So much! A lovely stay at the hotel - all of the staff were very cheery and helpful and so friendly! Ken and Angela and Valerie were wonderful! Our breakfast each day was very good and hot! Fiona, our server was lovely, Hilda was an amazing cook! The chef made us the most amazing Gigha Halibut supper with lemon-garlic vegetables. Very very delicious! Our room (#3) had a lovely view and was spacious and spotless, very clean. It had a bit of noise from the bar, but was easily minimized with a white-noise app on my phone. It was a weekend, to note. The craft store beside the hotel was a nice little place to visit, and the Gallery as well.I highly recommend the Gigha Hotel, our stay was lovely and makes me count the days until I can revisit this wonderful island!

We chose to come to the hotel one morning for breakfast after reading some good reviews on Trip Advisor. When we got there we asked for a table for two for the breakfast. The receptionist led us to the seating area and handed us off to the waitress who said "oh, just chuck them over there". Then after sitting down to pick from the menu we had a five minute dialogue with the waitress who couldn't comprehend easily that we wanted the fried breakfast without mushrooms. After twenty minutes of awkward exchanges with this waitress, we got the hint and left the hotel thinking we should have avoided Gigha all together if that was the welcome we could expect from the rest of our visit. To those travelling to the Island, bring a picnic.

Went in for dinner in the restaurant, the food was pretty poor and fairly expensive, and the waitress was nowhere to be seen for most of the meal, only coming out of the kitchen long enough to serve food. Had seafood pasta which was in an odd cheesy chickeny sauce with mussels which looked like they were nuked. The halibut main was fine. The drinks were good, and the pub is nice, but I certainly wouldn't be back for food.

Was expecting great quality fresh food . But very disappointed . Looking forward to local mussels but off the menu . Scallops were fresh but the sauce let it down and the bread was stale and expensive . Both in the end had fish and chips , that was two very small pieces of fish each , couldn't hardly see any fish , most likely frozen due to the texture and appearance . Staff were excellent and beer was good

We actually ate lunch in the pub and dinner and breakfast in the dining room. Both meals were pretty good. Let's face it though, you do not really have a choice as there is nothing else around so luckily the food and prices were not bad.

Mediocre food, scruffy premises need a makeover, 1 member of staff pleasant, other 1 abrupt and would benefit from a customer relations course
