Giggling Squid - Mere Green in Birmingham

We went for the lunch menu, which finished at 5pm. We arrived at 5pm and sat at our table at 5.01pm, to be told the lunch menu had finished. Frustrating. We ordered Pad Ki Mao, after being advised by the waitress that ‘it’s not that spicy’. It was barely edible, such was the heat! I can eat hot food, but all I could taste was chilli. This was again frustrating, after being given the advice we had been given by the waitress. On the way out, I was correctly advised that this dish was extremely hot, but it was too late. A pint of lager is £7.50. Our daughter had child’s menu and loved it, as always. In fairness , we are frequent visitors to this restaurant and usually it’s great but this occasion was poor.

Sad to say our experience was obviously a bad day at the office. The staff were excellent, thank you. My wife and I have eaten Thai food previously, visited the Giggling Squid twice before a while back and we thought it was time to visit again. Sorry but the main courses were awful. My Thai green curry was just so powder like and to have 6 large pieces of courgette in a small curry was just so wrong. Not good. My wife’s chicken stir fry was not at all good either. Just didn’t come up to the standard we expected. The manager and our waitress were excellent, thank you for being really professional and friendly. I don’t think we’ll be visiting again. Sad because we like to try a variation of restaurants.

We came here for the £10 lunch offer and it was amazing value for money. Good menu choice and suitable for vegetarians. Great service and atmosphere so would highly recommend.

Came on a Tuesday evening, place was quite busy but we were seated quickly in a lovely booth. Food was absolutely delicious, sticky chicken is definitely recommended. Service from Maddie was brilliant.

The flavours on everything we had was awesome, chicken wings were tasty, pork belly was some of the best I’ve ever tasted, papaya salad was fresh and zingy, cashew stir fry was the boss, but the star of show was the Thai melting beef, unreal flavours! Special shout out to Hannah and Megan who made things even better, five star service. Next day, no food poisoning so take such reviews with a pinch of salt!

Sat outside partly to enjoy the weather and partly to smoke. There are no signs suggesting that this restaurant does not allow smoking, just a rather snooty lady who decided to allow us as there was nobody else here. We ordered five dishes, as we had never been here before, to give us a taste of the menu. The sticky chicken we found to be over sweet. The crispy shrimp very good but overall we felt that the dishes were missing a spicy kick and lemongrass to be truly authentic. That said we enjoyed our lunch.

Nice staff, starters OK, terrible stir fry. Stir fry had very fatty beef in it. Tastedike a cook in sauce with far too much processed garlic resulting in a horrible garlic breath the next day. The stir fry needed more fresh ingredients, including more vegetables and fresh, rather than processed, garlic. The starters were fine but the main was very disappointing and over priced.

Came to celebrate Father’s day with family, The meal was great. Our waitress was Maddie who was lovely and very attentive. Excellent service, I would recommend.

Warmly greeted by Amelia and offered a choice of seating. The Spring Rolls on the starters menu are a delightful combination of tastes and textures. I opted for a different starter as a main course, Caramelised Pork Belly. Absolutely succulent and delicious. On a fairly quiet Monday evening, it was extremely kind of supervisor Amelia, to spend time in conversation with me and making sure service was, as usual, first class.

This was the third time I'd visited the Giggling Squid and the food is always exceptional, the cocktails are amazing and the service is great - they get the balance right between getting your food and drinks out quickly so you aren't waiting around, but not so quickly that you feel rushed.

Our first time visiting this spot, the food was incredibly tasty! There was 11 of us and we all had starters, mains, and sides - along with a few cocktails! There was no food waste at all, we all enjoyed it so much and are planning a trip back. We would like to give a special thank you to the beautiful waitress called Ida, she was constantly checking if we needed top-ups and chatting with us, she was really friendly and welcoming. She had heard it was my birthday and bought out a free dessert for the occasion too. A really special evening with family and friends, great food, and great service!

I returned to this restaurant after a first class initial experience. So many delightful tastes and textures and clear indications regarding the levels of spice. First rate service and customer care by Deila throughout. She was very personable and attentive throughout. I do not know her personally but I hope her managers will acknowledge her excellent hard work.

we had friends over from Canada and different parts of England and decided to go for a meal at this restaurant. We had a wonderful time and I want to particularly see them out Nicole for looking after us well and guiding us in our choices. As there were nine of us, we were able to experiment extensively with the menu. It went down a storm. She was exceptional.

Many had told me about the unique textures and tastes of this dishes on the menu at this restaurant. It did not disappoint. There were any number of dishes to tempt me and I'm not the most adventurous of diners. A special mention for the Thai Green Curry which was delightfully tasty and spicy without being too hot. I ate early evening and Supervisor Amelia had time to be delightfully interpersonal and welcoming. Always very appreciated. I will certainly return.
