Ghillie Dhu in Edinburgh, City of

Had my first time here today for a wedding; food and staff were so accommodating. An extra thanks goes out to bartender Alex who made sure I had a quiet space to take my family member who is disabled and needs quiet; we felt so looked after and that hospitality went such a long way. We're really grateful, staff are amazing!

Best food I eat in a restaurant in a long while both of us (me and my boyfriend)was very satisfied.We ordered the beef pie and the haggis,full of flavours and the presentation was very pleasant to.:) I recommend you to try this place.

This beautiful pub used to be a church - this is a much better use of the space! The interior is as beautiful as the exterior, the food is good and the staff is super nice. I stopped by for a bite and ended up listening to live music.

Me and my wife were here on Sunday, 25th May, as I was the best man at my friend Tom and Tashas' wedding. The venue is absolutely incredible. The staff were all amazing. The wedding planner (who's name I've forgotten sorry!) had everything organised with military like precision! Jim, who took the ceremony, was so calm that, in turn, calmed any nerves we had. Tilly the photographer was brilliant. All the staff were amazing and an absolute credit to the venue. The food was so good, I wanted more! All in all one of the best venues I've ever been to for a wedding. Recommend to all.

The food is very tasty, the atmosphere is very pleasant. The highlight was the service provided by Tanusri, who was very attentive and patient, explained the menu and gave us excellent suggestions!!! Everything was very good.

This is truly an excellent place I stumbled upon, without reading any reviews or suggestions. It is considered to be the best option in this neighborhood in Edinburgh. Cullen skink comes highly recommended. The staff is very friendly, kind, and extremely helpful when it comes to local food you want to try. They truly deserve a big thank you for their warm hospitality. Live music, and the band, are also impressive. You'll have an unforgettable night while sipping your whisky from a wide range of options in a spectacular atmosphere. The prices are very reasonable, and the experience is priceless.

We had our wedding at Ghillie Dhu and it was everything we wished for. The auditorium was gorgeous and the staff were amazing. Our guests are still raving about the delicious food and how beautiful everything was.

We had drinks, food AND live music! What more could you ask for? Truly, the drinks were excellent. I had the Pornstar Martini and enjoyed it so much I ordered a second. The Haggis Neeps and Tatts plate was very tasty. Our sever, Swati, was on spot-attentive, but not overly so, friendly and warm. We will most assuredly be back👍🏼. Oh, and...the live music was great. Put this on your 'must go to' restaurant when you visit Edinburgh.

Lovely place, we had dinner here. It was my first time eating chicken tikka masala and it was delicious! Swati was great with us and made sure we enjoyed our time here. I'd totally come back!

Food was good but took a long time although the restaurant wasn't packed. Service was very slow. We waited 20 min for our order to be taken, and that's because we insistently looked at waiters. I ordered a double whiskey, got served a single, charged for double.

Great food - Meat and Ale Pie, Haggis and the Cullen Skink was excellent. Our server, Alex went above and beyond to make this a wonderful experience. And the live trad music was also wonderful.

Great atmosphere with live Scottish music great food and excellent service by our waitress Swati. With a fiddler and guitar player playing traditional songs it fitted in well with our tour through Scotland.

Great Scottish pub, with very friendly and helpful staff, thanks a bunch guys! We enjoyed our meal as we shared the steak and the pies between my hub and I as the portions are bit big for me! Steak came with onion rings, chips and salad. Beef and ale pie was served with mash and greens with a very tasty and savoury gravy that I also requested for my steak. Guinness veas authentic and my hub enjoyed it, so as the Bundaberg ginger beer for me.

Every thing was perfect. We wanted experiment scottish food so we took an Haggis and Cullen Skink. It was so good ! Thank you for the services too. I recommand.

A unique show surrounded by 500+ candles. The atmosphere was romantic to say the least.

My friend really enjoyed fish and chips. I believe my dish was called pie roast beef with ale sauce. It’s absolutely scrumptious. There was a good amount of meat and the crust was perfect. We were lucky enough to hear a bagpipe player while we dined. The weather was beautiful, so we enjoyed eating outside. Glad we chose this stop to enjoy our dinner!

I only had a beer at the bar, but the atmosphere was nice and there was a duo playing an accordion and a guitar. Good for those who like live music.

Beautiful bar, with live music and great atmosphere. I had Balmoral burger, it was good but the bun was not great or fresh. The stagg were all excellent and attentive.

Went to a wedding there and the staff were amazing, helpful and friendly. really welcoming. The food was lovely and delicious and the serving sizes were perfect. the delivery of food to the tables was perfect as they left plenty time to finish each course while at the same time you were not left waiting too long for the next course. The venue its self is beautiful. Its located in the heart of Edinburgh in a beautiful old building. There is a bar downstairs with live music and a privet area for wedding guests. they have a great selection of drinks in the bar with delicious cocktails. Upstairs is the event hall and it is breathtaking. with high ceilings, beautiful architecture and a wall sized organ (this thing is huge and intricate) it is the perfect setting to give your wedding a Scottish flair. Seeing the bride walk down the isle in that hall was amazing. it felt like something right out of a fairy tale. for the ceremony the room was lit by candle light enhancing an already beautiful atmosphere. Now you might notice I called it an event hall and not a chapel, well after the ceremony everyone went downstairs for photos in front of this beautiful and historic building and drinks in the bar. we were then called upstairs and the ceremony area had been converted to a dining area. The tables were set beautifully with care and we had a delicious meal, then after that the curtain at the end of the room was drawn to reveal a stage and a dance floor. The party is held here as well. there is a bar and the room has a fantastic and fun energy about it and you can dance till the wee hours of the morning. Its beautiful that everything takes place in that one room so all your memory's of the day have a beautiful backdrop. another amazing thing is that since the venue is in the heart of the city there are countless hotels and busses and taxis to take you home at the end of the night. all in all the wedding was unforgettable and I would recommend the Ghillie Dhu to anyone looking to marry in Scotland.

For a drink or a meal, an unusual place (old church). We come here more for the setting and the atmosphere than for the cuisine, which is quite good and plentiful but there are much better places in Edinburgh. Fast and friendly service

Swati, our server, was great! Food was good, atmosphere was relaxing and fun. Scotch egg and sticky toffee pudding were the best part of the meal.

The place is very beautiful and the dishes are delicious. We were welcomed by Tanusri. A warm person who took the time to translate for us even though we don't speak English. Thank you to Tanusri for your kindness and advice.

Beef and chicken are good. There’s live music. Our group had a great time dancing. And there is haggis served on a spoon for everyone to try.

Been at Ghillie Dhu with 20 friends. Food was amazing and beers ice cold! Music on point and last but not least: Tanu was the best server! Really kind and patient. We’re coming back for sure!

Nice place located near the west end of Princes Street in Edinburgh. Main bar or function suite located upstairs. Got a pint for under £6 which is rare in this day and age.

We had a fantastic experience at the restaurant, thanks to Tanusri, our wonderful waitress. We were a group of 23, mostly non-English speakers, and she handled everything with remarkable patience, kindness, and professionalism. Her warm attitude made us feel truly welcome, and we greatly appreciated her attentive service. The food was also delicious and excellent value for money. Highly recommended!

I went here on last week..Restaurant was busy..I ordered sea trout and it was very delicious. A stuff called Mampret did a great job..

We popped into this establishment after a day long tour. Service was quick. Tanusri did a fabulous job. She was working her bottom off. Ghillie pie was tasty. If you like pot pies, it's a must.

A little disappointing. Staff were great, but atmosphere was lacking. February is probably one of the quieter months to visit Edinburgh so perhaps it would be more vibrant later in the year. Worth a visit tho.

Visited here for the rugby last weekend, had booked a table. The atmosphere was great but it was way too loud, as was the music. Ordered food from the 6 nations menu and it was such a rip off. See the picture for the veggie nachos ordered that cost £8, really unbelievable. I see other reviews that show sub par food on six nations day, so avoid here if you want to eat.

Came with a group of friends to watch the Scotland v Wales game and had an amazing time! We honestly all agreed it was a better experience than being at the match itself - live music, pipers, incredible atmosphere and the food was delicious. Really helpful staff and reasonably priced drinks - we would definitely book a rugby day out at Ghillie Dhu again

We went in here for a beer because it was a old church and we thought it looked cool. When you come it’s not that cool actually. Empty pub and soulless pub unfortunately.

I came here last night for the Valentine’s ceilidh, and had such a great time! The manager, Dorin, was especially helpful, really kind and friendly! Will definitely come back for an event here

Even given the challenges of a Six Nations Sunday evening, the food was disappointing. Burgers were overcooked and dry with the cheese looking as if it had been lying around for a while, curling up at the edges and far from looking fresh.

Great, we booked for dinner, the place is superb: old church, and hosted by a group of musicians. The staff is very friendly, do not hesitate to ask for details or advice. Good value for money. The food is excellent. I highly recommend you will have a good time.

We came to watch the first weekend of the Six Nations. Atmosphere was brilliant, good friendly vibes (even to the only England fan in the bar!) The staff were welcoming and there was an extensive selection of drinks. The food was nice but only a limited menu (but adequate). All in all, a great afternoon/evening.

Unfortunately Ghillie Dhu have a very rigid cancellation policy. 14 days seems a tad excessive. No refunds and no transfers. Therefore be very sure you’ll turn up before you put a deposit down. Additionally the customer service team showed zero empathy, disappointing

The bar is clean, unique, well decorated. What I liked the most was Jubel beer with its peach flavor

What a disappointment. Looking on the menus on Internet and on the photos in google, it looks amazing. We went there on a 6 nations day and discovered that there is a limited menu choice for that day. Fine... we took a sharer board and a pie. The sharer board was ok. Nothing amazing, it tastes industrial. The pie was terrible. It is just beef put in a bowl with a pita bread on the top, far from an average pie. Conclusion: nice for a drink but do not go to eat there on 6 nations day.

Attended the Burns Night Supper on the Friday night. Whilst the atmosphere was fabulous and the ceilidh band a hoot, the food was well below par for the price of the ticket. Ghillie Dhu has such a great reputation and we felt let down by the standard of the meal. The venison was overcooked and very tough. Sadly the presentation also lacked. That said, the staff were very friendly. We suspect there were staff shortages and that was the reason for the food being disappointing. It should have perhaps been recognised by the venue.

My wife and I had our wedding rehearsal event at Ghillie Dhu in December of 2024 and it was a really lovely experience overall. The venue is fascinating with a beautiful, striking space and really good food and drink options. Its location is also great, a short cab ride from our hotel. Overall, we had a really positive experience here! Our only qualm was that the staff was a touch difficult to get ahold of at times electronically, but everything worked out fine. Edward and Louise

The food was good enough, the service was pretty prompt, the music was far too loud during dinner. I enjoy a bit of live music and the musician was very good but they were too loud. When I'm eating and getting notifications on apple watch that the music is going to damage my hearing, that's not great. We asked twice for the volume to be turned down and they failed to do that even slightly.

Attended for Burns night supper. Fun & amiable piper, who kicked things off well. Food was OK; felt rather rushed for the price we'd paid. Live music during dinner was over 80dB consistently. Asked staff on 3 separate occasions to turn it down, not even by much, and constantly reassured it would be - however, the atmospheric soundmeter i use for work doesnt lie!! I usually enjoy live music, but it was persistently obnoxious. Will not be back; thoroughly ruined the experience. Shame 🤷‍♂️

I made a complaint about the service I recieved on a visit in October 2024 and still no reply. Numerous attempts were made to speak with someone but no response. This establishment served me food which included an ingredient I have an allergy to. I explained my allergy to the lady serving me who advised she had spoken with the Chef who stated the food didn't include the ingredient with the allergy. Absolutely wrong!!! So wrong I ended up having medication. I would never trust this place given their service standard and moreso the fact 3 months later they have never gotten back to me. Foolishly incompetent people running this place.

We loved our meal here. My partner ordered the Cullen Skink and I had steak frites and both plates were delicious. There was some live music the Friday night we went and we loved the atmosphere and the music, so much so we stayed an hour after our dinner to enjoy the music with more drinks. They have peach Jubel on tap - love it!

My steak meal was not hot sent back away for a while came back with it and said watch the plate very hot stone cold my friends meal lamb was not hot very disappointed !!!
