Beef and chicken are good. There’s live music. Our group had a great time dancing. And there is haggis served on a spoon for everyone to try.

We had a fantastic experience at the restaurant, thanks to Tanusri, our wonderful waitress. We were a group of 23, mostly non-English speakers, and she handled everything with remarkable patience, kindness, and professionalism. Her warm attitude made us feel truly welcome, and we greatly appreciated her attentive service. The food was also delicious and excellent value for money. Highly recommended!

Been at Ghillie Dhu with 20 friends. Food was amazing and beers ice cold! Music on point and last but not least: Tanu was the best server! Really kind and patient. We’re coming back for sure!

Nice place located near the west end of Princes Street in Edinburgh. Main bar or function suite located upstairs. Got a pint for under £6 which is rare in this day and age.

I went here on last week..Restaurant was busy..I ordered sea trout and it was very delicious. A stuff called Mampret did a great job..

We popped into this establishment after a day long tour. Service was quick. Tanusri did a fabulous job. She was working her bottom off. Ghillie pie was tasty. If you like pot pies, it's a must.

A little disappointing. Staff were great, but atmosphere was lacking. February is probably one of the quieter months to visit Edinburgh so perhaps it would be more vibrant later in the year. Worth a visit tho.

Visited here for the rugby last weekend, had booked a table. The atmosphere was great but it was way too loud, as was the music. Ordered food from the 6 nations menu and it was such a rip off. See the picture for the veggie nachos ordered that cost £8, really unbelievable. I see other reviews that show sub par food on six nations day, so avoid here if you want to eat.

Came with a group of friends to watch the Scotland v Wales game and had an amazing time! We honestly all agreed it was a better experience than being at the match itself - live music, pipers, incredible atmosphere and the food was delicious. Really helpful staff and reasonably priced drinks - we would definitely book a rugby day out at Ghillie Dhu again

We went in here for a beer because it was a old church and we thought it looked cool. When you come it’s not that cool actually. Empty pub and soulless pub unfortunately.

I came here last night for the Valentine’s ceilidh, and had such a great time! The manager, Dorin, was especially helpful, really kind and friendly! Will definitely come back for an event here

Even given the challenges of a Six Nations Sunday evening, the food was disappointing. Burgers were overcooked and dry with the cheese looking as if it had been lying around for a while, curling up at the edges and far from looking fresh.

Great, we booked for dinner, the place is superb: old church, and hosted by a group of musicians. The staff is very friendly, do not hesitate to ask for details or advice. Good value for money. The food is excellent. I highly recommend you will have a good time.

We came to watch the first weekend of the Six Nations. Atmosphere was brilliant, good friendly vibes (even to the only England fan in the bar!) The staff were welcoming and there was an extensive selection of drinks. The food was nice but only a limited menu (but adequate). All in all, a great afternoon/evening.

The bar is clean, unique, well decorated. What I liked the most was Jubel beer with its peach flavor

Unfortunately Ghillie Dhu have a very rigid cancellation policy. 14 days seems a tad excessive. No refunds and no transfers. Therefore be very sure you’ll turn up before you put a deposit down. Additionally the customer service team showed zero empathy, disappointing

What a disappointment. Looking on the menus on Internet and on the photos in google, it looks amazing. We went there on a 6 nations day and discovered that there is a limited menu choice for that day. Fine... we took a sharer board and a pie. The sharer board was ok. Nothing amazing, it tastes industrial. The pie was terrible. It is just beef put in a bowl with a pita bread on the top, far from an average pie. Conclusion: nice for a drink but do not go to eat there on 6 nations day.

Attended the Burns Night Supper on the Friday night. Whilst the atmosphere was fabulous and the ceilidh band a hoot, the food was well below par for the price of the ticket. Ghillie Dhu has such a great reputation and we felt let down by the standard of the meal. The venison was overcooked and very tough. Sadly the presentation also lacked. That said, the staff were very friendly. We suspect there were staff shortages and that was the reason for the food being disappointing. It should have perhaps been recognised by the venue.

My wife and I had our wedding rehearsal event at Ghillie Dhu in December of 2024 and it was a really lovely experience overall. The venue is fascinating with a beautiful, striking space and really good food and drink options. Its location is also great, a short cab ride from our hotel. Overall, we had a really positive experience here! Our only qualm was that the staff was a touch difficult to get ahold of at times electronically, but everything worked out fine. Edward and Louise

The food was good enough, the service was pretty prompt, the music was far too loud during dinner. I enjoy a bit of live music and the musician was very good but they were too loud. When I'm eating and getting notifications on apple watch that the music is going to damage my hearing, that's not great. We asked twice for the volume to be turned down and they failed to do that even slightly.

Attended for Burns night supper. Fun & amiable piper, who kicked things off well. Food was OK; felt rather rushed for the price we'd paid. Live music during dinner was over 80dB consistently. Asked staff on 3 separate occasions to turn it down, not even by much, and constantly reassured it would be - however, the atmospheric soundmeter i use for work doesnt lie!! I usually enjoy live music, but it was persistently obnoxious. Will not be back; thoroughly ruined the experience. Shame 🤷‍♂️

I made a complaint about the service I recieved on a visit in October 2024 and still no reply. Numerous attempts were made to speak with someone but no response. This establishment served me food which included an ingredient I have an allergy to. I explained my allergy to the lady serving me who advised she had spoken with the Chef who stated the food didn't include the ingredient with the allergy. Absolutely wrong!!! So wrong I ended up having medication. I would never trust this place given their service standard and moreso the fact 3 months later they have never gotten back to me. Foolishly incompetent people running this place.

We loved our meal here. My partner ordered the Cullen Skink and I had steak frites and both plates were delicious. There was some live music the Friday night we went and we loved the atmosphere and the music, so much so we stayed an hour after our dinner to enjoy the music with more drinks. They have peach Jubel on tap - love it!

The place is simply amazing, we passed by to have some food and beers, the prices were fair and the quality is great! Also there was live music which made the experience even better. The service couldn’t be better, Michal was super nice and attentive the whole time.

My steak meal was not hot sent back away for a while came back with it and said watch the plate very hot stone cold my friends meal lamb was not hot very disappointed !!!

we had a wonderful evening there ; first we sat at the bar, i should say there was no food smell at all as we mostly experienced at the other places and the bar crew was perfect 💞then we moved to table ; there was live music and it was great ... we wanted to have chips and asked to the waitress , at first she said the kitchen is closed then she came running and said she talked to the chef and he accepted to fry chips for us 💞 she was so helpful and lovely ... thanks to Tanu Sri ...

Amazing food, the worst service i have ever seen. Zero attention to the customers, have to go and order drinks at the bar, and for this we have to pay 10% service charge.

Spent NYE at Ghillie Dhu at their Dinner & Ceilidh event at the ballroom upstairs. The quality of dinner, the band, and the Ceilidh were amazing. Unfortunately, this evening was ruined by rude and aggressive wait staff; from throwing one of the courses/dishes at my brother, to arguing with me at the bar that my girlfriends lime and lemonade should be 3/4 lime cordial and 1/4 soda water (!?). Not really sure I could recommend this at £150 a ticket, probably best to spend NYE elsewhere.

We had some fantastic food, and some fantastic cocktails, overall it was a great experience for a lunch and dinner date.

Didn't get food but place was friendly and busy

A good time had by all but the ceilidh band was a bit rubbish. You have to walk people through the whole dance my guy. You can't just tell us the steps, practice once and expect us to have it nailed down. Also wasn't keen on my table getting cleared for dancing. 4 stars is very generous but I genuinely did have a good time. That stuff just dragged it down a notch

Had a work party here. Food was exquisite! Especially the soup starter and the chocolate tart! Beautiful place, loved the cosy booths. Staff all lovely and trying their best in the sea of madness. Loved their festive drink selection. The live folk music was nice for an atmosphere.

the food is very expensive and of poor quality not worth the price, the floors are dirty they probably lack cleaning service. Only beer and vodka are the best choices. I was there some time ago after opening for dinner with my fiancée. We were served badly by the staff, when using the toilet the toilet seat is barely holding and you can fall off the toilet, the hand dryers do not work, the pressure in the sink is so low and you can not wash your hands properly.

Had a great time at the Bahookie St Andrews day Ceilidh. There was a bit of confusion with the food orders but this was handled well by the waiting staff who were all great & friendly. Atmosphere, lighting and venue decor were spot on. Great place for such an event. Drinks that we had were reasonably priced also with a fair selection.

Ghillie Dhu was grand. Good food, great alcove table for 6 of us, leisurely unhurried lunch and reasonable prices too.

An atypical place, pub with live and events in an old church. Very good dishes, large selection of whisky, gin, beers and cocktails. Attentive and efficient service. Beautiful decor, very friendly live atmosphere and very good musicians for our evening.

Nom nom nom! Ate here for our first night in Scotland. Definitely did not disappoint from an eat-all-things American. Local beer and gin cocktails were excellent. Live music excellent and oh the food! We had kids fish n chips, the lamb roast, steak frites, plus sticky pudding and mars bar for dessert. I would order all again.

Visited this bar for a nightcap after an event at the Usher Hall. Folk band playing Irish songs was great and we had lovely cocktails but our evening was ruined after a doorman at the opposite side of the empty bar came over to my partner to tell him not to tap his hand on the table in time to the music. Seriously? We were sober, quiet and not young and how can anyone not sing and tap along to The Irish Rover??!! Get a grip management no wonder the bar was empty.

Surprisingly quiet for a Sunday during the festival. Good service and very helpful staff. My friends enjoyed their food, but I have to say that Cullen Skink was the worst I have ever had - watery and tasteless. Such a pity as it is one of my favourite dishes.

The interior, music, and atmosphere were amazing and authentic. The staff were nice and pleasant, too. Food was good, could have been better, but still good nonetheless. Do know that there is a 10% service charge added to the bill. I felt a little bad and awkward asking the staff to remove this (sorry I’m on a budget). But this was optional, as stated. I had no qualms with the service though, the people were nice, friendly and accommodating.

Deconsecrated church used as a restaurant, pub. The atmosphere is very nice. There were musicians playing typical music live. Average food, wide choice of beers, cocktails and more.

Massive place, great selection of drinks, happy to go back

Not a lot of choice for vegetarians, but then we're only 15% of the population. Any wonder we don't eat out much.

Went for a Candlelight: The Best of Hans Zimmer, performed by The Quartet Scotland. The concert was beautiful and the hall was also. I didn’t order any food or drinks but the staff were helpful and friendly and the other customers seemed to enjoy their orders!

Very atmospheric, this is a very serendipitous. Bring your friends and enjoy.
