German Doner Kebab in Cardiff

Very impressed with the food. First time i ever tried a kebab at this venue. We did feel the service was lacklustre. The lady who served us had no personality and was almost robotic in her interaction with us. Better customer service needed- friendly warmth and enthusiasm with customers would greatly help this branch on City Rd. Otherwise, the food was delicious and i'm really not a fan of kebab usually.

I came to eat a kenab and I received bad service and there was nothing in the kebab I reckamei wue there were very few ingredients and I was insulted, I won't be back again, a lot of lack of professionalism and terrible service.

As a treat someone ordered the kebab meat and chips claiming it’s amazing, it wasn’t, it was disappointing, small portions for the price, a few frozen fries with no flavour, try seasoning, it can help with the blandest frozen foods. Some kebab meat, greasy and just not great. Would have been cheaper and tastier from a chip shop with much better portions. The guy who ordered it had to make a sandwich after as he was so disappointed, sad

Need to get some respect and priority for the actual walk in customers. Stood at the counter for over 10 minutes, No one even acknowledged us. No one even had the slightest interest in actually saying we will be with you shortly just made us stand there. We were not the only ones, 6 others walked out the same time. Gdk you've lost your customer service which used to be high now just just eat customers seem to get the only service. Sort it out !!!

Portion size of the food was very small for what u pay including paying for extra mix spent over £65 and the portion size was ridiculous to say the least wont be returning here any time soon.

I wouldn’t bother ordering online or even pick up. Twice now at least half or even 2/3 from the order missing. They clearly just don’t care so despite the food being nice, if you can’t trust them to fulfil the order and just give you whatever they feel like that day, it’s not worth the hassle trying to get your money back.

Favourite kebab place, I absolutely love this place, the only thing thats not good is the continously hike in prices, I appreciate everything os getting expensive, but compared to other restaurants, German doner will soon be unaffordable.

Ordered online for delivery. Delivery took an hour longer than stated. Food arrived cold. Worst takeaway I've ever had. Did not count as a kebab in my book. Bread dry. Meat dry and unidentifiable. Would not recommend.

The delivery never arrived. The drivers do not pay attention to addresses, post code etc. They deliver to whatever is similar. How they can deliver without my code

Food ordered online and never been so disappointed with gdk. Food was stone cold, bread was stale and the meat was drowned in grease.

One of worst and dirtiest shops you'd eat at

Recently visited GDK on Friday after work where the food was stone cold and the service was shocking. I waited over 40 minutes to have food while my partners gym box was full of salad and hardly any meat. The front of house was more concerned with online orders instead of looking after in store customers. This place has gone downhill over the past six months. I will not visit this place again!!!

Food was good as always but expensive for me for what you get.

Really enjoy the kebabs from here. They have self service screens now but not all the menu is on there so if you can't find what you are looking for you can always order at the counter. It can get really busy at peak times but the kebabs are worth the wait!

As a regular customer never felt like writing a review but after spending over £30 for 2ppl i would expect some quality of food, but instead the meat was dry, the bread was dry and the chips were rock hard, and the cost of the meals goes up so often. This place is getting worse day by day.

Might be better to get chicken donner instead. The beef donner was cut too thin, and the portion sizes are very stingy for the price you pay, especially the donner and chips box - it was tiny for £7.99!! Should really be priced £3.50 max. Better quality and quantity at your local kebab shop, in my opinion.

Had the OG kebab which was only just warm. The next customer ordered the same and was pointed to a banner offering 50% off if you download the app. Thanks for that! Seemed more interested in looking after the Just Eat and Deliveroo guys!

Very helpful and informative staff, busy place with fresh food. I was expecting a bit more salad and sauces, but I would choose that place again for a quick fresh and tasty food.

Very nice food lovely service with lovely man in the market.

I couldn't taste any sauce in my doner so I asked for a bit more and she said that sauce is in the kebab and I have to pay extra.

We went in as a treat but the staff member who served me as quite blunt and when i asked to have my extra meat separate he said no i could only have it in the kebab or not have it... overall i wouldnt rush back for one even tho we used to come everytime we came to cardiff

When German kabab 1st opened it was amazing! I introduced so many of my friends to order from here... but it keeps going downhill! I stopped ordering a while ago as they kept missing out certain items, which I paid for extra! But today I thought I'd give it another go. I asked for extra salad, but there was hardly any in there never mind extra! Plus I paid for the 3 extra pots of dips.. but only had 2! I also paid for cheesy fries but it only had a drop on the top! I feel like they're constantly trying to cut corners. They've now lost a customer once again!

This is the second time where I ordered food and didn’t get what I ordered. They seem to always forget the fries. The food was dry like straw I ordered through deliveroo What a disappointment I think it’s the Cardiff branch that has the issue

Absolutely delicious, the chicken was very lovely. The shop was very clean and nicely decorated, staff were kind. The food was great!

Ordered through Uber to collect. Arrived at GDK to be told food wasn’t ready even though there was food waiting on counter to be told it wasn’t ours. Waited nearly an hour to be handed the food that was sat on the counter when we arrived!! Got home to find order had ingredients in it which were requested not to be put in due to allergies and all the food was freezing cold soggy and inedible.

This has to rank as one of the most disgusting meals I’ve ever had the misfortune to encounter, and that’s saying something. If you like fried chicken fat and fries, then this meal is for you… picked out the inedible, had a couple of fries cos I was starving and immediately wished I hadn’t 🤢 See photograph below

Firstly, they don’t even deserve 1 star. My husband had ordered GDK from Cardiff and has suffered since with really bad food poisoning. I knew when he got it, it looked off. But was still wanting to eat it. He’s been in A&E since, with multiple checks and an inflamed colon, from constant vomiting to diarrhoea. Have always heard many things about GDK, I definitely don’t recommend. Please be cautious.

City road / cardiff. WORST customer service I’ve had at a fast food restaurant. Staff just ignore you when trying to place an order, not even your basic customer service “hello” Food was not so bad. Order was missing parts, waited 39 minutes for food. One word DISAPPOINTING

Ordered veggie gym box, and fries, need to microwave fries but got half a box of salad for £6!! Have had gym box with meat before but seems if you order it as veggie option, you only get half a box of salad!! Why?? Unfortunately will not use again

I the kebab I ordered was a beef kebab and paid extra for the large I’m glad I did because I would have hated to see what the small was like (Maybe just bread?). I had to microwave the meal as it was stone cold. I would say it did taste nice after being warmed up but for the price very poor.

Very veryy poor service by the staff.. Always trying to send people away by saying it that they have no staff , not allowed to eat in side. or it will take 50mins for the order. I love GDK but by the poor service provided it put me off.

The staff is very rude and unfriendly. Always said no eat in because staff is short What you mean by short staff??it's jst to clean the tables. Always disappointed when go there. They need to change their behaviours and do their jobs properly.

I have been here at least 150 times now and love their kebabs. It is delicious, the meat is fatty yet lean and full of flavour. I almost always get the large doner box with fries. However, recently they have increased the prices too much for me so I have had to get less kebabs and get the regular box which is cheaper. I understand inflation is very high currently, but today I ordered a regular box and I received the smallest portion size ever. I was not full up at all. I'll have to order less kebabs from now on, which is a pity. I wish they had a loyalty system or something like that for regular customers

Lovely hot food, always go for extra meat!!!!! Food comes quite thrown together in a bag though, which is quite disappointing. Only 4 tables so it does get very busy aswell. Unfortunately no Tango Ice Blasts either. Edit: Everything has gone up by like 2 quid, you can't get double meat anymore and they never have the doner spring rolls

Try wrap and you will not be disappointed. Well presented food but the restaurant is a bit small. Take aways are passing every minute. The best is to do a take away rather than eat in.

Had food delivered by Uber eats no fault of driver he was quick but food was freezing called up restaurant and was told to come to the shop paid for an Uber to the shop and was treated like absolute s*#t 3 men came from behind counter all talk over me and said I could have my order but had to wait 40 minutes absolutely disgusting 🤢 wouldn’t even bother ordering from these again I’ve had it from Swansea branch a lot of times and food is quality but cardiff branch god knows what they do but it’s vile honestly felt like it was kept in the fridge vile vile vile and the guys on the toll were so rude

Kebab tastes good as always. I love the salad with meals and all the sources. Staff are always friendly. Service can be a little slow but then that maybe more because of takeaway/delivery. Everything is usually clean especially tables. Nice big boards to read from. Overall I would definitely recommend.

I ordered the mixed chicken and beef doner box and found a few pieces of raw uncooked chicken. I’m worried I might have ate few pieces mixed with cheese without realising as well. This is not my first complaint with this place but it will be my last. Never visiting this branch again. Horrified and upset would be an understatement. There is always something wrong or missing in every order I’ve ever made at this branch.

If i could give it 0 stars i would, i used to have the doner box from hear multiple times but after this experience i am shocked. I found hairs in the box, white hairs and black hairs, there was also from what i could small pieces of fluff, my brother called up but apparently the box sometimes comes with it and we couldn't stop laughing😭, but i wouldn't even ever order from hear again.

Kebab tasted great but I went for the Doner gym box with extra lettuce, tomatoes and cabbage and even upgraded to the large with extra meat but there was barely any salad and very little meat! The upgrade to large with some extras costed me £10 but their large portion size is tiny and is less than a small when compared to other kebab places... Food tasted great and nice sauces but such a shame that the portion sizes are tiny.

A staple for Cardiff takeaways. Unlike other kebab shops, GDK's kebabs aren't greasy and the bread is perfectly crispy yet soft. Cant go wrong.

"Kebabs. Done right". That's the German Doner kebab mission statement. I suspect that they're alluding to the mixed kebab I received today, which resembled animal matter. Entirely cold, overcooked, but auspiciously wrapped in their signature foil. It's okay for the owners of this cesspool to reply with comments acknowledging failures, but the frequency and catalogue of negative reviews just verifies that the owners either don't care, or are complicit in handing out dog food to customers. You are a shame to the notion of GERMAN doner.

Used to be very good… cold and no meat even tho I ordered extra meat I paid £2 for, try to find one piece of chicken in that kebab, good luck….

Average as tables were dirty, previous deals where chips and drinks included now have to be brought individually. Definitely not worth paying close to £10. Appreciate prices have risen slightly but just another money making scheme for most of the establishments on City road.

Recently moved here in cardiff... Walked in at 10pm and was told by a lady at the counter before anything as i quote 'its gonna take 30-40mins you gonna wait or what' lol turned right around and walked out never ever going here doner kebab is cold raw and no spices.

2 star as the service in this place is very very slow. I visited midday on a weekday when it's quiet and there were hardly any customers inside. I placed my order and all I could see is the workers dealing with Uber eats and deliveroo orders, the sad reality is that they dont prioritise customers who come in to either collect or sit in. They Prioritise the deliveries( Uber,just eat , deliveroo etc...). Other than that food was actually quite nice but expect a long wait for your order.

Not a single bit of meat in my food, may as well have gone for the veggie option. And a big hair in my food! Put me right off 😖Maybe Monica needs to put a hat on whilst serving people as I ate 2strands of her hair 🤮. Absolutely S**T. No1seems to take enough pride in anything these days. 4 weeks of nice quality and slap dash from there on! Shocking!

Good food (after microwaving) however absolute shambles front of house. Ordered online, arrived to collect, no sign of order. Some confused looks on faces to be told no such order. I was only collecting so rang guy who ordered, got screenshot of order, went back in, order was sat on a shelf going cold after all 🤷🏼‍♂️

Ordered ahead. Arrived to collect on time, had to wait while staff dealt with deliveroo and Uber eats riders. After 20 minutes got tepid food shoved at me. Not happy with quality, not happy with service and very unhappy about being barged about by delivery drivers jumping the queue (and night covid precautions). I will not use this shop again.

Ordered meals at 18:02. Now is 19:40 and they moved delivery time again. We can't get a refund if we cancel our order. If I had known that it would take so long, I wouldn't have ordered it in the first place 😫 Will be disappointed if they won't meet our expectations 🤦🏻‍♀️

At the beginning used to be amazing then I think someone else took over but the staff are awful, not welcoming and unenthusiastic. Always say upstairs is closed and never have any nibbles such as donner spring rolls, nachos always out of stock. 👎🏽 I also emailed in and have had no response.

The worst kebab I ever had, the cashier woman couldn’t understand my order or answer any of my questions about the food. I asked her if they have kebab in pita bread, she said yes but when I opened my order at home I realised they wrapped my kebab in a 20p off-licence month old flatbread. I asked for feta cheese on my kebab and they put a TINY container of feta cheese on the side which was literally the size of a teaspoon for which I have paid 60p extra, ridiculous, never coming back 👎.

Today we have popped into GDK Cardiff location and totally frustrated. When we have entered, all tables and chairs were so dirty, no place to sit at all. We were holding two babies on our hands. After a minute I was asking staff are they...

Don’t bother with this place, unless you are blessed with extraordinary levels of patience. There were only a handful of customers when we visited but we waited over half an hour for our food. During this time some Uber Eats / Just Eat etc drivers...

Taste pretty similar like doners in Germany! Much better than all doners in UK.

Znam to miejsce od momentu powstania, odwiedzam regularnie,zawsze było czysto,miła obsługa i pyszne,świeże jedzonko. Jedynym problem było miejsce parkingowe i co dziś zjemy? Aktualne jest mop do podłogi w samym wejściu,co już zniechęca, pani przy kasie mimo że się stara to jej nie wychodzi,personel zakręcony,zamówienia od około 3miesiecy wszystkie źle,trzeba wracać, miejsce jest zatłoczone oraz brudniejsze a i jakość spada. To była moja ostatnia wizyta w tym miejscu,na własne oczy w ciągu kilku minut widziałam jak stracili klienta,nie jednego lecz kilka osób opuściło lokal kręcąc głową z niezadowolenia, ja też odchodzę. Nie ma tu jakości, czystości ani miłej obsługi.....szkoda :,(

This is probably 1 of the best German doner joints that I've gone to .. ive been to a few of these now but the Lancaster 1 is always on point in my opinion

Absolutely disappointed had two original donner kebabs after 2 hours of eating them my misses got rushed into hospital with server food poisoning been up all night spewing I've been up up all night spewing hospitals got my misses on drip as she dehydrated from being sick all night still can't say when she's allowed home

I visited this branch today and it was the worst experience! I was served by a fat penguin called Dharani, she was the rudest ever worker i have come across. The food arrived stone cold, the manager came and instructed Dharani (penguin) to remove all the food and replace it then she had the nerve to touch my food and say it was not cold so basically called us liers, even though the manager himself touched it already and stated it was cold. Somebody needs to teach this elephant some manners! Do not visit this branch unless you want to be disappointed and waste your money!

My food arrived cold I told the driver as the bag only had a bit of cello tape holding it together he told me take it and call the shop even though it was delivered on a scooter from city road

Good points: Good concept, decent food, clean well presented shop. Bad points: don't think the till/order staff have heard of smiling. Especially the young girl who is borderline rude. Service with a smile...not service with a frown. Food is never hot, just luke warm, if your lucky then it could be quite warm. Not as good as it once was.

Food is great so is the customer service but there’s a female customer assistant (petite and wears glasses) who puts me off from going to German doner. She’s rude and has an attitude, not a pleasant feeling to be served by her every time I visit German doner.
