George's Fish and Chips in Cannock Chase

I’ve been using this chip shop on and off for years. The last couple of times have been average but tonight I felt compelled to write a review, which is something I didn’t want to do, but after the food tonight I feel like there needs to be change through criticism. I had mixed meat and chips in a tray. £6.50. A pretty standard price for a good quality tray of food. Unfortunately this was far from it. I ordered at 7pm so should be fresh chips right? I don’t think so. They had that chalky texture that chippy chips get when you let them go cold and reheat them. The donner meat was ok, could’ve done with some better seasoning but ok. The chicken however was awful. Had a chemical taste and a strange consistency. I don’t know if they’ve changed supplier of there meats but I’ve never had such underwhelming meat from a chip shop. Not even the cat wanted it and he’s normally up for some chicken meat! Salt and vinegar was asked for but was so scarce that if I didn’t see them put it on I would’ve assumed they forgot. I will say the young lad who I assume owns the place wasn’t there and it was the old boy who was running the place. He seemed to prefer talking to the other staff member rather than listen to another order from a customer after me. He couldn’t grasp what the customer wanted and ended up serving the wrong food. All in all it was a disappointing trip to the chippy. I do hope they can improve but seeing reviews over the last two years it seems they’re happy to earn the coin without any care of quality or care. I won’t be hurrying back

New year eve:I live in Etching Hill but drove up and glad I did. Tasty hot chips good size portion and plenty of salt and vinegar. Tasty sausage in batter. They wished me happy new year!

I ordered a chicken kebab and chips. I live 2 min from the shop. I was unimpressed if honest, the chips were not cooked enough and I couldn't eat the kebab as it just wasn't very nice. I won't bother going there again

Mixed wrap kebab excellent value for money. £4.50 filled with both meats and any sauces you want. Best value in town bu far

Wife bought home fish and chips but couldnt eat the fish. As soon as the fish was opened you could instantly smell that it was off. I don't know how old the fish was but the smell was horrid. Won't be returning.

Fish tasted funny on this occasion. Not sure it's been cod for a long time

Worst fish and chips ever. Chips half cooked and soggy fish questionable if was cod batter like leather. I will not be going back. Not even worth one star.

Excellent cod and chips you get good value for your money,but do not go opening time expect to wait.

Just before closing so had low expectations. Sausage was OK but the chips were the worst I have ever had. They were rancid. It wasn't the vinegar either. Possibly the fat they were fried in needed changing months ago. I expected, at such a time, maybe overcooked, possibly greasy, probably warm chips. That would have been fine. There is no excuse for selling those.

Tried the food from here for the first time in 18 months as iwas dissapointed then but was very impressed on friday the food was lovely and i got a good size portion of chips great value for money
