Went in with a friend to check out the new location. Very spacious and feels more open than the downstairs area they had before. Ordered nachos and some food but because the automatic door was stuck open or not working, by the time the food got to the table the cold had claimed it. Melted cheese on the nachos had hardened gluing it all together and the burger was ok but again temperature was an issue. Will still come again, just think the automatic door should maybe be working during the colder months

Be prepared when you descend the stairs: the "atmosphere" of the place can be quite overwhelming, especially on game nights. Just get over it and explore this den of geek. If Magic the Gathering is your thing, then this is the place to be in Glasgow. They do have a selection of boardgames, other trading card games and comics as well as a corner for playing console games from a wide selection eras (from Super Nintendo to the latest generation). You can just sit down, grab a controller and start playing! What I didn't know when visiting was that this place is actually a pretty decent cafe with snacks of all kinds and beverages to boot. So if you are a geek and in Glasgow, I highly recommend you to visit!

We played a pre-release here while on vacation. Really nice crowd and very friendly employees. We didn't eat but there was a decent selection of food and cold drinks.

Geek Retreat is just that. A place for geeks to relax together and play various geek games. I have never been in and this place not be busy. There is a decent selection of food and drink but thats really not the main purpose of this place...

Table top games and comics available plus other assorted paraphernalia, like posters and figures. However you can just go for a coffee (or a milkshake - which are fab!) Great cakes and LOVELY staff, everyone is made to feel welcome. A really nice vibe to the place :)

We pre-booked a table to draft Heroclix and had a great day, coffee is good, not fantastic and the food is servicable snack style. The range of product on sale is limited and space is a premium, but what they have done with the space they have is great. On the weekends the place is more crowded with younger geeks, so older geeks might feel a little intimidated but that is nothing to do with the venue and everything to do with the psychology of us older folks. If you are planning on running an RPG or draft , they will happily accomodate.

Coffee is lovely, and they always have a good range of food and snack stuff. They have a wide range of collectables, comics and have work by local artists too. Loads of My Little Pony stuff, which my wee sister was over the moon about and my wallet less so. Although saying that, the clientele made me feel uncomfortable and felt as though I was being stared at. There's a funny smell too but I dunno if that's because its so busy/warm.

Glasgow has places to go buy comics and places to go buy games, the city also needs more places to kick back and just relax (while playing games and reading comic books). The comic selection is limited to recent releases, but there are plenty of graphic novel books to buy. Staff insist (by which I mean 'insist') that you buy a drink (cheapest bottle of fizz around 1.80) per hour that you stay, but as long as you don't splsah out on the high-priced hot-dogs you won't go bankrupt. Lots of seating, but can be really busy. Best appreciated when taking part in a pre-arranged tourament or one of the regular clubs (e.g. Nintendo StreetPass nights). Come and see... ;-)

This place serves awesome popcorn and does a great hamburger deal for lunch. Plenty of comics and sci-fi stuff to browse. The weekend gaming sessions are packed out. I think they will need a bigger place soon. Staff are helpful and friendly (includes some very hot looking girls which is a bonus).

It's in the restaurant review section but it's not the geek gastronomy gaff of Glasgow. Rather this is a sort of open club cum cafe cum snack bar for all folk interested in comic book, role play and fantasy gaming and popular online worlds. If all of that sounds interminably dull then don't go. However it's already intensely popular and deservedly so so I doubt they will worry if your non geek kind doesn't show. If, on the other hand, you find this world fun, interesting and a good social place to be then drop on in. The food and beverages are mostly what funds the place so the prices aren't in the same basement the place is. However you don't begrudge it as the place is genuinely welcoming, safe for kids and all in all a respectful and sharing environment based on trust and camaraderie. Get your geek on here.

This is a fantastic place. Great food at cheap prices and a very clean toilet. Free wifi is available and a whole range of comics and other products to buy. Games are there to play and they have an xbox linked to a massive TV. For January they are even giving away a free comic with hot meals.Staff are very friendly and there is one (red head) who is stunning. She is worth the visit alone.

This is a fantastic place for people who feel they are on the "geeky" end of the social spectrum to hang out, play games, read comics, and just have somewhere to go and feel relaxed. The crowd in when we were there (late Saturday afternoon) were on the whole fairly young. They were however making the place vibrant and active; having a good time. Everyone was chatting to others, or playing games (of which the cafe has a stock to choose from if you didn't bring your own). They run different events in the evenings for various sub-sets of geeks, so check the board for details. If you are a teenager, into any of the card games or similar, and you are being dragged into the city for others to do shopping, this is a perfect place to ask to escape to and be left! They are happy for people to stay for extended periods, but do (reasonably) ask that you purchase something per hour. At the end of the day its a business and they have bills, and some of these games can easily last 4 hours!I have to add that I didn't eat here, but did have a perfectly decent Matthew Algie Coffee (they are a local roaster in Glasgow and very good) and my wife had a Christmas special hot chocolate with cinnamon, also tasty.Whilst somewhat older than some of the customers (I hasten to add not all!) we were not made to feel unwelcome or uncomfortable at all. We will certainly return to this unusual, and cheerful, cafe!

Let's be clear, you don''t go to Geek Retreat for haute cuisine. In fact, tucked away in a city centre basement near Central Station the food is good but basic fare. The real draw here is the opportunity to play board games and just chill out with like-minded 'geeks' over a cup of tea, sandwich or so. The atmosphere is friendly and as long as you buy something every hour, there's no limit to how long you can stay. When I visited it was very busy and seems to be so every time, so they're doing something right.

I had a few hours to burn in Glasgow and came across this when looking for a comic book store.I absolutely LOVE this place - I had coffee and pop tarts (there were some awesome looking batman cupcakes there too!) and then grabbed a comic on the stand for you to read in the cafe, which is an amazing selection! I read the first walking dead book, and half of Neil Gaimans Sandman. There is also a store in the cafe selling comics, various geeky memorabilia and handmade crafty stuff - there are also arcade games around to play. If you are of a geeky orientation this place is a MUST, just the best place to chill!!!

Travelling back from Kinning Park with my eldest son, I decided to stop off here for a bite to eat as I needed to pick up a few things anyway. Overall, it was some good scran. Aside from the food, I also thought it was brilliantly priced (Kids eating for just £1), the staff were decent and the cleanliness of the seating area was on point. In comparison to the Morrison’s café in Anniesland, which has plummeted in quality over the last four months, it really was night and day in comparison. I opted for the Sweet Chilli Chicken Panini (lovely) and a Cappuccino (unfortunately the machine only poured 2/3 of a mug). The wee man had Pancakes, Crisps and a Fruit Shoot (unfinished but he seemed happy enough with it). I was impressed with the choice on offer - it certainly exceeded what I’d expect from a Supermarket café. Being a fan of Rangers, I’ll most likely be in the area again very soon and would happily head back to Asda.

I am attending at course at the Clyde College and this wee cafe happens to be nearby - it's very convenient for lunch when I have classes the whole day. I had lunch in a couple of occasions so far, I tried their soup and jacket potato. The prices are affordable, the food is good and the staff are super friendly.

I visited The Lauder in Sauchihsll Street in October 2919 when it reopened after the fire that destroyed the buildings next to it we were served beautifully cooked and very tasty food. I have visited Glasgow twice since then last week ( end of February 20w9) being the most recent and it is now my choice of place to eat. The staff are great easpecially one young lady called Lynn who has been the ultimate in custoner service. Even remembering me from previous visits and ensuring that I get a table and great service. I will be back as not only is the foid well cooked and presebted it is great value for money .
