Favorite place in London, great food and even better service!

We love this lovely place! Cosy atmosphere, great and very quick service and the food is always excellent quality!

My partner arrived before me and had to move table as it smelled of dog’s urine. The restaurant was full of flies, both small and large. I started with a Caesar salad, which was very generous and good. My partner had the charcuterie plate which looked and tasted like it was recently bought in a supermarket. For main, we both had the special of bouillabaisse. Although it was generous, with rouille and cheese, it tasted like the stock came from a jar.

He was sceptical but announced “the best French food I’ve had in London for a very long time “ Reasonable prices . If you’re looking for a great beef tartare, done the old skool way, you’ll be in luck at Gazette. Although it’s slightly hidden away behind Chancery Lane, it’s a nice spot to get in the French vibe. The tartare is prepared in front of you so it’s served wonderfully fresh and each bite is packed with juicy flavour. The duck and bavette were juicy and tasty and the ingredients were fresh. The service took a little waving occasionally, probably because they were very busy but they were friendly and attentive when we had their attention. It’s a nice place.

Coped well with a fairly large party for a friend's birthday. The food arrived for everyone at the same time. The quality was good (and the stuff that was supposed to arrive hot was! Always a gripe with bigger parties). The atmosphere is great and the staff are friendly and helpful. Sat on the terrace on a beautiful sunny day (the weather helped) The guests drifted off after a late lunch but a no time did we FOMO types feel we we being hustled out of the restaurant. What's not to like?

Although it’s slightly hidden away behind a condo near the Thames, they have a nice outdoor seating area when the sun’s out, to get in the French vibe. The tartare is prepared in front of you so it’s served wonderfully fresh and each bite is packed with juicy flavour. The seafood bisque was tasty and the ingredients were fresh. The service took a little waving occasionally, probably as we were outside, but they were friendly and attentive when we had their attention. It’s a nice place to relax and have wine with some great tasting French treats.

Delicious mussels and madeleines! The setting is not particularly magical, but Gazette is worth visiting for the food, and the digestive walk along the Thames one can have after.

We booked lunch through the fork which allowed us a 50% discount off on food excluding the set menu. When we went to pay the bill we were advised by the duty manager that the specials were not included on the discount even though we double checked the small print on the fork website and showed the duty manager the fine print. The specials were clearly printed on the Al la carte menu and not part of the cheaper set menu which is not included on the discount. The duty manager was quite rude and arrogant and refused to give us the discount we were entitled to. Really disappointing as we are locals and frequent the restaurant quite occasionally. My husband has been going on and off here for the last 20 years and we have just moved back into the area and were looking forward to coming back. Having now read recent previous reviews it would appear the restaurant duty manager treats customers who book via the fork app in a sub-standard manner.

We wanted a relaxing spot supper, and this was just what we wanted. My youngest had the escargot and they were perfectly cooked, not over done!

I’d been to the gazette in Putney and had a positive experience so was hoping for the same from Battersea, but it was so disappointing! We had the full French breakfast which was nice but the service was abysmal. We asked for a drink on 3 separate occasions and in the end we gave up and asked for the bill only for our drink to turn up after 25 minutes of waiting. We noticed on the other tables people were getting annoyed asking to order drinks and food because they were left waiting for so long. The management need to invest in their waiting staff and get the basics right. You can’t make money without food and drinks orders!

Light evening meal of warm octopus with asparagus and a sauce. Mid week quite late it was quiet though the feeling was warm and welcoming. I'm going to return to enjoy a full meal. Recommended.

Booked last minute, food delicious, staff friendly (Diana and Brian) and great atmosphere.

Service here is absolutely amazing. I came here twice in one month and it's always very nice. They're dog friendly too which is a plus. I wish they'd give a free dessert or so for a birthday gesture though....so I would go here for your birthday as you wouldn't get that extra service. Asides from that, the food is great 👍

I ordered the steak at £30 and what came out was the size of a cookie and consisted mainly of fat, it was also cold. I complained about the meal and got a very aggressive response from the manager who bought the food back from the kitchen and wanted to inspect it on the table with me. Very strange behavior as it highlighted exactly how bad it was and made a scene in front of the other guests. More importantly though was the creepy behavior from the manager and inappropriate comments towards the women, his weird flirting towards the girls with us was really unacceptable and gave them all the ick. Having read more reviews i see this has been reported previously so i would suggest people avoid this place!

Me and my husband come here all the time. Perfect for a mid week dinner and even better when you can sit outside. Ackshay (forgive my spelling) served us tonight and was wonderful! Thank you for another lovely evening

I would rate this restaurant 5/5 !! Me and my friend went for dessert and we had apple tart and madeleines , it was amazing and also it was our first time visiting and loved the atmosphere + services!! We went ahead and book our dinner for the following day hehe absolutely would recommend this French restaurant to everyone!!! 💝💕

Very pleasant, informal atmosphere. Laid back but efficient service. Lovely, fresh Maldon oysters for two, followed by one well cooked bavette steak and one delicious tuna steak. Good value, friendly welcome, what’s not to like?

I love this place. We come here as a family for celebratory brunch or lunch or as a couple for a treat and catch up. The staff are lovely, friendly and just the right level of attentive. The location is lovely for a stroll- the main draw is of course the delicious food. I love their eggs royal, escargot, steak, burgers, spinach side, and their desserts, particularly the tart ration and Huuuummm are favourites. Highly recommend.

We ordered garlic prawns which were revolting, snails were horrible, kidneys were raw, tuna inedible. The only good thing about our evening were the staff who were charming. It cost us £145.00, total waste of money.

Best French Brasserie in London

The tartare is a must try, classic recipe but spot on. Great service and food selection.

Reading the promotional blurb:' London's most authentic french restaurant', I have to disagree strongly. I had a french grand mother & I speak the french language almost fluently. This restaurant in my opinion is NOT FRENCH at all. I should expect a french speaking young waitress & french food instead just scoff which I left uneaten. If it had not been the choice of my partner & Feb 15th, I might not have paid the bill.

So I have previously been to this restaurant in the summer and it was excellent all around. However, Easter Sunday was a let down. I ordered French Onion Soup for starters. This was just onions in a rich mush with a very thick layer of hard cheese on top. I wasn't at all taken by it and I suffered badly that evening and the next day with food poisoning.For mains, I had the Pork Belly with potatoes which came out colourless and bland in a stew. The only upside to my meal was a generous portion of Creme Brûlée which was amazing.

The place was so cozy and food was delicious. Definitely would love to come back to try the other dish in their menu

True French restaurant in the heart of Battersea. The burger and other meats are amazing. The French Cider is really tasty. I really recommend for Lunch or dinner.

Real "Froggs" restaurant in this renovated neighborhood. A good restaurant surrounded by take away places. Surprisingly good and tasty!

A special place for great food.

We live locally and have been coming to this restaurant for our special occasions for several years. Our favourites are the chateaubriand and chocolate soufflé but have sampled much of the menu and it is all delicious - proper cooking, great combinations of flavours but with a local restaurant feel. We are always greeted with a nice welcome and coming is a real treat.

Gazette always reminds me of proper French brasseries: the atmosphere is casual but the food is of a superb quality.

An enjoyable lunch at this French bistro with pleasant but slow service and food (had to wait 1hr for starters, and 4hrs in total for dining on 3 courses). £30pp for 3 courses excluding wines/ drinks.

Staff and the food were wondeful

Very impressive. Food value is 5 stars, Food taste is 4.5-5 stars. You can feel the management really care about the restaurant, in terms of organising events, attracting locals, setting reasonable food prices or simply making the beef tartare. The only suggestion from me is that seasoning is sometimes too strong. For instance, the beef tartare has an overwhelming Tabasco sauce flavour, I prefer the natural beef flavour to come on top. Overall, a place deserving the love of the locals and worth visiting.

Excellent food and wine, served friendlily and promptly including to our toddler in a high chair. We didn’t have a reservation and yet were served delicious charcuterie, excellent steak tartare (prepared freshly, at our table) and a really good half-bottle of Pinot Noir, sitting outside in a quiet courtyard in the sunshine.

Nice place to visit once. Food was nice dependent on what you pick and whether they have it in stock. It's probably better to go on a Saturday than a Sunday for this reason. Restaurant was not at full capacity but service was slower than experiences elsewhere for the same party number. Service was not as attentive to our table as could be, which made it quite a long service with mistakes still made to orders.

Gazette, uses to be very nice restaurant with delicious stakes and generally food. We went last night and the whole experience with the food and the customer service was not on a level. Their stake was horrible, mussels and “king prawns” which didn’t look king at all. I won’t return anymore to this restaurant.

Absolutely disgusted !! I ordered oysters and I bit down on something hard while eating oysters that sent a pain through my mouth when I spat it out it was A STONE !! This chipped my back tooth and the restaurant owner a scumbag called Walter , HIS reply to this was he didn’t want to take any liability for the matter. if we take matters further they don’t care. I’m so upset I am so upset and disgusted with how I’ve been treated. I would’ve given no stars but I had to put one … I WOULD STRONGLY ADVISE ANYONE NOT TO VIST THEIR RESTAURANTS, STAY AWAY FROM GAZETTE, DISGUSTING OWNER, I AM TAKING LEGAL ACTION AND I HAVE ALREADY INFORMED FOOD SAFTEY STANDARD AGENCY

Lovely restaurant. Delicious food and very good service always! Love the ambiance and decor, very cosy! Outside area is also wonderful and relaxing, away from traffic and noise.

The place with the beef tartare that suits my taste the best! However, the escargot had a strong odor.

Excellent as always. Today we had the lunch special perfectly served by Ahmed and Francois. Herve is great but on holiday. Brian makes the best Mocha ever. The team here is very special.

Courteous service, lovely ambience and obliging friendly staff. They even speak French to you if you want to maintain the holiday feel to the place. The food was excellently cooked and well presented. The only downside - the building noise nearby. But hardly their fault.

Very enjoyable evening out. The food was solid (not amazing but wouldn’t expect that) and the service good. The ambience was really lovely. We sat outside on a beautiful balmy evening and chatted the night away. We must have been there for about 6 hours and not once was there any attempt to get us to move on. Would certainly return and recommend.

Specifically went for the Wednesday mussels deal….sat down at our table, not told anything about the menu and food having run out. Waited 15 minutes to be served only to be told the mussels had run out. Specifically went for that deal so quite disappointed we weren’t told when we sat down.

Although the setting was really lovely, my boyfriend and I do not recommend that anyone attends this restaurant if they don’t want to spend longer than three hours waiting for average food. We ordered one starter and two of the same mains, and were waiting for over 2 and a half hours after our starter for the main, which was overdone and very average. They were behind on all of the tables around us, and tables that arrived much later were served first. When we were waiting, they offered us more wine which we assumed was a gesture of goodwill. When we asked if they could do anything about the bill for compensation, they simply removed the optional service charge and no more. Very disappointed with our experience and wouldn’t recommend to anyone.

A group of us went for lunch on a Saturday. Once again, we were not disappointed! A warm welcome and our table for 8 was well placed. Their special for July was Tartars which some of us had. Great portions and delicious! Others had steak and chips and fish. All nice! For dessert, some of us could not resist the Chocolate Soufflé, sheer indulgence! The French white wine came from their own vineyards, refreshing, crisp and dry! A lovely time enjoyed by all of us! Thank you once again Gazette!

Really nice garlic bread and duck. Potato dauphinois was nice and garlicky but a bit too salty for our liking. Would recommend though, good food and good friendly service

Ordered tuna and mango from the Raw menu thinking it was a main course. It was the size of a starter. Ordered pavlova but it was just a tiny piece of meringue with fruit round it. A pavlova should be crisp on the outside and soft in the centre. I had informed the restaurant we were celebrating a special birthday so expected a candle or similar in the dessert. Nothing. I had to remind the waiter who said he'd forgotten. He did bring a small sorbet (?) with a candle in it. It was one of the worst meals I've eaten and I came away hungry.

First time back at Gazette after Covid. What a shame for us. We ordered our entrees and they came out quite quickly - have to say after living in Provence for some years that the Rouille (saffron aioli) with the fish soup was not real - which was such a shame for us expecting a little taste of the south of france again. After our entrees were cleared at 8:20pm we didn’t get our mains until 9:40pm. Clearly the kitchen forgot us, as everyone around us had their meals coming out. Pork cheeks were hard and inedible. All of this communicated with staff. Not one attempt at offering us a drink or discount, and we all Left feeling upset and angry about our night - didn’t event attempt to order desert. The Maître-d did just apologise and said “we are busy”… we won’t be coming back here.

Just went and the food was good but the service was just very odd. Staff being awkward and not especially welcoming. Only one menu for drinks for the whole restaurant? Sadly not sure I’ll come back

The whole staff were new took us about two hours for two courses how ever the food was amazing and the general manager made sure we had a great experience would definitely recommend

We ordered pork cheeks and the waiter said the would be tender. They were hard as a shoe sole. We ordered desert and came 30 mins late. After 3 reminders we ordered the bill and they said the desert would take 15 mins more. We said no and they were charging it in the bill. Obviously really bad service. Do not recommend it.

Great food, atmosphere, background music and the BEST server in Battersea (Cairo) after a very long flight with multiple delays we arrived in London at 830. Found the Gazette via google maps and decided to give it a try. It was worth it. We had the prawn, burger and flank steak. Everything cooked to perfection. Highly recommend

The atmosphere for this place is very very welcoming. The decor is very particular and so specific that they even bring receipts to the tables in books. Cairo was our waiter and he made the experience at the restaurant even better for us!! He was amazing to have. The steak was cooked well done and it was cooked to perfection. It was Very easy to cut, easy to chew, it tasted grilled and it was pleasantly nice. The burger had bacon on it we opted out of the onions and got it well done. Would recommend the burger it was very good. The shrimp portion was an entree and was presented with less food than anticipated but nonetheless still pleasurable. The shrimp was served on leaks and the gravy was very very good. The French fries for both entrees were fried to perfection. Very light and right amount of salt.

Leicht rustikales Ambiente, zuvorkommende Kellner, eine Weinkarte die mich wunschlos glücklich macht, alle Speisen ausgeglichen im Geschmack und das Chateaubriand ist einfach ein Traum. Wer in London ist und französische Küche vermisst ist hier bestens aufgehoben.

Lovely lunch in the sun at gazette. Food is authentic and tasty and for 3 courses for £18 such good value.

Simply the best spontaneous meal - just passing and wow, service, table, food - all insane and I am very fussy. Hats off to Gazette and the team - am coming back tomorrow 🙌

We went here for my boyfriends birthday and we had the best night! The staff were AMAZING - they even brought him a tray out to make his own cocktail. François (steve) was an absolute legend and totally made the evening for us - thank you so much!! The food was also incredible. 11/10 - what a special place

This place is exceptional. Visited when the sun was shining so enjoyed sitting outside. Ordered 2 mimosas, then shared lemon crepes and chorizo cocette between me and my friend and they were amazing. Then we both had a tiramisu martini which was totally out of this world. The waiter noticed my friend had a birthday badge on so bought out some fresh baked madeleines with a birthday message on it really made her day. So nice here will definitely revisit!

Was passing at around 5pm on Sunday evening and thought I'd have one drink and read my newspaper. So I sat down at a lonely, dirty table in the corner, as per the photo the place was pretty abandoned. As I was getting up to ask for a drink, was approached by whom I suspect was the manager, tallish 40s bald man, whose first words were not, "welcome" or "what would you like?" Instead "you know next time you need to check if this table is booked before you sit down, just to let you know". Ok.. So suitably chastised I had my drink and left, not sure why there is the need for this? Maybe they are fully booked at 5.30,maybe.... I doubt it. Maybe they want to bring classical Parisian rudeness to Battersea? Perhaps. Oh well, you live and you learn. I'd just avoid this place next time.

Went there in a quite Sunday. Place was almost empty. Way too dirty, water bottle sticky on some black staff you couldn’t touch it, we came from outside and we find the van with the door open with baguette, bread, salad, container of food etc. whatever you touch around you is dirty, the sanitary, the tanble, dust everywhere. service was a joke, no customer interaction at all. The pate was really good, slightly to pepper for my taste. Lamb was raw ,you could see that was cook not correctly and I find 2 cofee beans on my sauce, no floor staff was able to give me an explanation, if was in purpose or not.potatoes dauphin was undercooked with potatoes 1 cm thicker. The madeleine are worthy to wait, they were great. We will try another brunch this was disappointing.

We went for a tasty authentic French supper at the Gazette restaurant, hidden away in Sherwood Court near Plantation Wharf. Parking (after 7pm), was no problem. It is also dog friendly. We chose from the à la carte menu..our starters; charcuterie - £9, Crab éclair £14 and my husband chose a lobster main at £24 and I had the Cabillaud (Cod) with roasted chervil at £18 which were both tasty and well presented by chef Pascal. The restaurant had a friendly ambiance - the staff were attentive, comfortable seating.
