Great concept but all dishes are quite spicy - even those dishes that shouldn’t be such as yoghurt dip.

Disappointed to learn that this restaurant serves halal meat only. I personally avoid halal meat. To have 'india' in its shop front name is a crude way of fooling ppl to think that this is authentic indian cuisine. Authentic Indian avoids serving halal meat. Always ask b4 you book.

First time visiting the Gateway of India Rhiwbina location. My partner and I made a mistake and ordered pick up from Penarth. The gentleman at the front was able to help us out super quickly. He made a call to the partner restaurant and sorted out our problem. He then persisted to get or food prepared. Once we walked home we noticed he had gifted us free samosas and pakoras. Left as very happy customers of this place, food was excellent and we will be returning. Thank you!!

First time trying, lovely welcome in the shop. The lady who served us was very helpful and polite. The food was outstanding and you can tell they use quality ingredients! Will definitely be coming back.

My husband and I had been meaning to try Gateway to India for years and finally got around to it. The door to the store was open so we walked in. The person who worked in the store advised that they didn’t open until 5 (it was 3pm) but he was more than happy to serve us! We picked our meals which were all clearly labelled with prices, ingredients etc and went to the till to pay. The server asked if we could wait 5 minutes, which we did but unsure why! After 5 minutes. The gentleman brought us out FREE bags of vegetable samosas and chicken pakora - fresh! He stated he’s gifting them to us as it’s our first time coming to Gateway of India and he was certain that it would become our regular takeaway - he was right! Although a little pricey for our normal takeaway, it was definitely worth the price and he will definitely be returning! The flavours were stunning, the meat was perfect and the portions were huge. It didn’t taste oily or greasy like some takeaways can! Service was excellent and the cooking instructions easy to follow! Super impressed!

Great selection of meals, extras and service. All the dishes we had were really nice plenty of meat and loads of flavour will definitely be back.

Beautiful food The curry’s were outstanding. But my naan bread was like a supermarket naan cut in half very dry and tasteless. Not what I expected from an outstanding takeout .

£12 for a main, without rice or bread that you have to cook yourself. I just don't get it. I spent £40 on naans, two mains, some rice (cauliflower and pilau). The shop is lovely, the staff similar, the packaging great but the food isn't anything special and massively overpriced. It's not often I stop eating out of choice and just didn't want to eat this food. Great for my waist, not great for my wallet. The rice and bread are just horrible. The mains had good amount of meat, but the sauces were boring. I love Indian food, but this is just over priced for what it is. I'd rather save money and have a supermarket cook your self (which whilst not containing as much meat, has far better naan and rice) and if willing to shell out £40 (20pp) why wouldn't I order a takeaway which is bar far the nicest option and its delivered to my door. Overpriced, overhyped. I shall not be returning.

Just had our 1st takeaway experience at Penarth Gateway of India. A lamb dish and a chicken biryani. Lots of big pieces of chicken and lamb, tasty meals and very filling. Could have shared either meal, will know next time. Will definitely be paying more visits. It was from their chilled section and it was like homemade curries. 👍👍

Fab takeaways, lovely helpful and friendly service.

Best indian takeaway ok so you choose what you want and it comes to you cold. You have to either microwave or oven cook it at home. Think this is better as you there is nothing worse than lukewarm food plus buy it and eat it later on if you come home late from a night out and get a bit peckish. Food is really nice prepared in store and the staff are great as well. You might have to wait at peak times but its reasonable price I'm a regular.

Interesting concept , but ultimately feel its more clever marketing than anything Firstly the food is as expensive as if you were order it cooked from a top notch takeaway Considering you have to cook this yourself i'm not really seeing where the value for money lays The quality was good but again not any better than my usual takeaway I probably wouldn't rush back primary because of how expensive it is and the element of cooking it yourself isn't really a selling point for me

Literally the worst and unhygienic Indian ( bangali ) food. Firstly the staff was extremely rude saying where did we come from and that, when we replied they made weird faces which we took extreme offence. When we asked the same question the manager replied Bangladeshi. Basically clickbating irl. And lastly dog water food ngl. Don’t go there save your taste buds!!!!!! 😢🤝

Wow!! What can I say I was slightly apprehensive with ordering from this takeaway after a recommendation from a friend as the food is served chilled but my fears where totally unfounded this is honestly one of the best Indian restaurants in Cardiff maybe Wales and I have had a fair few of them!! This is a must try Indian restaurant!!! and there is so much more on offer than just your usual bog standard Indian takeaway you name it they have it your missing out if you have not tried there delicious food!!

Really great Indian takeaway, great quality food accompanied with great customer service. They sell local spice kits, honey, chutneys and pickled vegetables which is a lovely addition. This is a cold takeaway place so bare in mind that you have to factor in some heating time, but this can be done through microwave or oven.

We bought a selection of meals for 8 people. Really delicious food. Excellent quality. We were give a complementary plate of mini samosas and pakoras. Cardboard containers are great being biodegradable been but do start to tear after being in oven if you are keeping them warm for longer than 30mins

This is the nicest Indian food we have ever had. Me and my parents return frequently as the food is amazing and the staff are delightful. They are so happy to help and offer so many alternative food options for vegan or vegetarian.

The Gateway of India was recommended by a friend. Just had my first meal and it was delicious. The staff are friendly and welcoming, the fridges are well stocked with plenty of choice. I'll definitely be back.

Absolutely fabulous. Just can't believe it has taken me over three years of living in Rhiwbina to try it. The two guys who were working in there are two of the nicest guys you could wish to meet. The food itself is absolutely stunning. Full of flavour and packed with spice, not blow your head off spice but really flavoursome spice. Will certainly be back.

Lovely food but nearly 2 hours from order to delivery to my door (and then you have to heat it up!) don’t be hungry when you order!!!

Absolutely brilliant food that covers all dietary requirements with a fantastic range of menu options - it's far and away the best Indian I've tried in Cardiff. Both delivery and collection services are fantastic, with great online ordering functionality too. The 'get now - cook later' concept is a real winning formula - and with such friendly and accommodating service from all of the staff there as well, you can't go wrong! I would 100% recommend!

Ordered from Moslaur and his team late on Saturday evening (February 2021) I was the last pick up of the night. So wonderful to see all the team so happy and cheery. All the guys wewe working away cleaning each and every piece of equipment with such a pride, as if it was their own. Once again, a fantastic meal from a fantastic business.Reassuring to see that the standards were so high even when Moslaur was not there! A truly premium service from a premium service provider. Stunning and most generous meal yesterday, The owner popped a few extras in for us too. The rogan josh and chicken korma were beautiful, rice, just a sprinkle of water was soft and flavoursome too. The most convenient part was that it all went in the oven together with naan breads. Well be back as the menu is big!

Very well organised if you want good Indian meal and heat it up when you feel like it. Find some of the mild dishes not very mild.

Ordered this for delivery at a mates house at his insistence that it was a 'banging' takeaway. I couldn't understand why it was so well priced at first, I was convinced something was wrong with it and I'd be suffering the next day. Only when it arrived did my friend tell me that you have to heat it up yourself. Made a lot more sense then. Seeing as he ordered it, I'm not sure how clear it is on the website that you have to heat the food up, but not a problem for us and I wouldn't have had an issue with it had I been ordering for myself at home. It just takes a little longer when you factor in an hour delivery time, plus about half hour to cook. We ordered the non-vegetarian tasty thali to share, which was tikka masala, lamb curry, chicken curry, mixed tikka starter, pilau rice, naan, yoghurt, chicken and dal pakoras and a poppadum. We ordered a chapati and an extra poppadum to make up the delivery minimum. When it arrived, we had an extra bag of veggie samosas which was great, as well as mango chutney and a minty dip. Heated up the food and dished it out - my friend knew what to expect and was excited to get stuck in. I tried a bit of everything and it was lovely, really good food that wasn't 'tainted' by grease or lukewarm from being the last delivery. It tasted fresh because you heated it yourself. Really enjoyed the chicken dal pakoras in particular, as well as the lamb kebab type thing that was in the mixed tikka starter - so soft it just fell apart which is hard to achieve with lamb. Excellent value for money, I'd absolutely order again just for myself and spread it over two days, money wise it works out great. Would definitely recommend.

Fantastic food. No Indian takeaway will ever be the same after Gateway food! But one word of warning. Their heating guidelines are nowhere near enough for the food to be hot. 180° should be 200°, and 25mins should be at least 35 mins.

Best take away in town. Food is cold for you to heat up at home. Best thing is the free Samosas, pakoras and popadums.

Delicious Indian food as take aways available here. Although the spice level is mild more to suit the british palate . It's a good place to look for Indian variety . A small dine in would have made it better to try and taste there in the outlet itself rather than only takeaways. Staffs are very friendly

Really lovely food. Usually very good service too but I think they were struggling with house busy it was on NYE. I ordered yo collect at 16.45. My order wasn't ready untill 17.50. As I said though usually fantastic.

Excellent variety of tasty chilled curry dishes to heat up at home. The portions are generous. Better than a takeaway which is lukewarm by the time you get it home or have it delivered.

The GOI are an excellent Indian Takeaway - tasty, fresh food and a great service. There is a good choice and many are available pre-prepared for quick purchase. Selling cold food for home re-heating is so handy as you can buy it earlier in the day when you're passing.

Been a customer of the gate for many years but moved away from Cardiff. So getting a meal from here is a treat. Bought 2 meals and had to leave most of the food due to the amount of chilli in the food. Aubergine dish should be flavoursome, but could not be eaten sag paneer was hot, well every dish was hot. So disappointed, after looking forward to one of our favourite foods from a favourite place.

In my previous experience the gateway of India is best Indian food shop in the whole Uk.thushari gomes l don’t know why you are disappointed.

This is the most disappointing Indian takeaway I have ever had to deal with. They deserve less than 0 stars. The food is chilled and when we questioned about it once we already bought as we have no way of heating cause we were in a hotel. The person in the restaurant was so rude and told us it was not his problem and tried to give us an explanation about how the food is fresh. How is anything served cooked and cooled be fresh. Very very bad experience. Stay away from them! We had to throw away all the food as I was 35 weeks pregnant and it's not safe to eat it without heating!

Called in on the spur of the moment,, Beautifully presented ,and delicious food, and a raft of sides to die for ,, This Indian food has to be tasted to be believed as no words can aptly describe the explosion of taste in your mouth, A bit pricey given that there is no VAT to pay since its bought cold, but that said,the portions are generous enough for another meal the next day.. Going to be a regular treat for us now,even if I do have to drive 4.5 miles .

Had a take away from here last night, and have to say quite disappointed. The Lamb balti was lacking in flavour, and although the Chicken dopiaza was passable, the whole meal was not up to the usual high standards of the GOI. The portion size has also decreased. Probably won't be going back, as it was also fairly expensive for 2 meals, one rice dish and one naan.

Take away only. Good food. Lots of choice. About £25 for 2 mains, rice and sides.

Best Indian take away that I've ever tried, but with an unfortunate price tag to match. This is not cheap, and probably not worth it all the time, but a great meal. Note that the food is not hot, you need to cook it when you get home.
