Lovely lunch... Serves a good pint of Stella! - infact it was good to meet a Stella enthusiast there too! Definitely return!

I visited the gate with family . A fantastic meal was enjoyed by all of us , and the service was truly exceptional. Vicky and her team should be proud of the service they give . The pub is set on the canal in tamworth and is truly beautiful. Very clean and great food and friendly staff . Highly recommend this for a meal or just a drink .

We arrived at the Gate last week... Looking for a light lunch, as a Stella enthusiast, I also NEEDED a pint of Stella too - ALAS we was in luck. We tucked into lunch, Mushrooms were spot on, a bit hot on the first bite but enjoyed thoroughly. Had the gammon as a main, that as well was really nice too! The staff were super friendly, in fact they also shared my Stella enthusiasm! Will certainly return!

Basic Canal boozer, i'd only visit summertime for a waterside drink. 5.5/10

Not great. Loud and noisy pub. Could do with some refurbs, no food served outside for whatever reason. Food options limited. The staff are OK however. Maybe OK for grabbing a pint but that’s about it

A nice place for a drink by the canal, but on a very hot day the only umbrella in the garden hadn’t been put up, also some of the tables and chairs needed cleaning. Wanted to eat outside but we told this wasn’t possible so no idea what the food is like as we went somewhere else for lunch

Went for beer and supper. Tables sticky. Told they had been re-varnished but still sticky and now they have no time to re-do it. I suggested don't varnish at all. Had to go to different till to order food? Ordered medium rare steak, received well done. They cooked another which was medium but I daren't refuse it again! Nice lady said she was training the chef. Maybe he's not a chef if you need to train him.. hard peas, unripe tomato. Generally dissapointing. Scampi was fine. Chair seats deep with greasy filth. Waitress refused to get me another beer when she brought my meal so my meal sat getting cold whilst I waited at the till to get someone to serve me a beer. Madness! Need to seriously get some training all round to make the customer feel served. It was pretty cheap though.

BBQ sauce was really good. Staff are really nice. Good portion sizes.

had a lovely meal at the gate staff was welcoming and great laugh would recommend , i didn't realize the parking where you have to give your car reg till saw a review then quickly rang from home straight away and they put it in for me like to thank all the staff there

The Gate is a lovely pub to visit when it's sunny, only problem is the drinks are very expensive, you can understand why pubs are going out of business when the price of a pint in Wetherspoons is nearly half the price of Marstons pubs.

Went in for the 30%of food only to be told by the rude owner there is a 45 minute wait and the kitchen is closed it was 2.15 pm there wasn't enough staff only 1 lovely lady who was very helpful the owner was drinking in an outside building when we left at 3pm who in there right mind would only have 2 staff on when its the warmest day of the year bering in mind 1of them was the owner she needs to Change her attitude get a grip you will lose a lot of customers!!!!!

Was passing looked a nice traditional pub, thought food would be the same…well you know what thought did! 🤢 we ordered 2 roasts dinners and this is what we were served, sandwich beef, hard roasters, grainy gravy and canned peas. Absolutely awful!!!!

Parked up for less than an hour and we got a fine for parking on the premises

Was there for 37 mins nothing worth writing home about until I got a letter about a 100 pound fine for parking

there's a big car park, a canal that runs along side the building, beer garden, traditional pub feel inside and out, good food served all day, good selection of beers, Pedigree is a good pint from here

Good food and value for money drinks on a Mon. Not very busy in the colder months, but can be from April.

Nice pub/restaurant situated on the canal with a nice beer garden in the summer & a cosy warm bar & lounge in the colder weather. Good value, tasty food.

We had a lovely visit for Sunday Lunch with our dog Ruby. We had pre booked a dog friendly table. We were greeted pleasantly, our drinks were ordered efficiently as was our food. We thought it was very good how they are using one till for drinks and one for food- saves the drinkers waiting. Our Sunday dinners were presented very well and were delicious and hot. The landlady Vicky, all the staff and customers were very friendly.

All four meals we ordered were very good and had generous portion size. Well worth a visit if you want a decent meal.

What a great pub - the staff are absolutely awesome people and the beers are really well-kept. A good selection from the Marstons brewery. Beautiful views of the canal and you can watch the boats go by. 2024 Edit: we've been back to Gate again and it's still as lovely as it was 3 years ago. Absolutely wonderful staff and the food was excellent. Thanks again also to the staff for the reminder about the car park registration!! Hope to come back and see you all again soon

Excellent service and food, good pint of guinness with a shamrock poured into the head on most pints poured. Family friendly atmosphere and canal backs onto the beer garden so awesome in summer. Just installed private parking but just put your car registration in and nothing else to do. Landlady and staff are great and greet you with a smile everytime. Well worth a visit trust me.

The Gate is everything you need from a local pub! Good booze, great atmosphere, fabulous staff!

Only people in the pub waiting for food...nearly an hour wait before being told the steak we'd ordered was taking time to cook...it was ordered rare so god knows what the hell was going on!! Starter of sharing platter of wings were brought to the table without any plates or cutlery and we were asked if there aas anything else we needed!! Staff looked bemused and awkward...

Busy and clean. Wasn't many peeps inside but plenty of peeps outside enjoying the sun next to the Coventry canal. Did not have food. Don't do thatchers 0% which would of been nice.

Stayed on carpark in motorhome. Carling excellent. Staff very friendly and helpful. Next to canal. Will go back again.

I used to be a regular here, take the dog a walk along the canal then stop here for a drink and some food. Sadly now the parking restrictions are in place, I’m not sure this will still be possible?

The Gate laid on a bespoke afternoon tea with finger sandwiches and excellent scones. Quality of ham (local?) was remarked on a few times. Helpful and attentive service plus a pleasant canalside setting- all at a good value price.

I wish I had never come here, we only came here because the road to our normal restaurant was closed but oh boy what a mistake it was to go here, the table was sticky and there isn’t even a kid’s menu, the menus had weird stuff from food stuck onto them, and outside it gets worse because there’s a playground with only 1 slide nothing else but a tree stump. Service was too slow

Just wanna stay staff were brilliant, so attentive and caring. Honestly food wise it is extremely basic and it’s kinda what most pubs around Tamworth offer now. It’s not bad it’s just basic.

Friendly bar, offering affordable food options, beautiful outside setting alongside the canel. Pub quiz Tuesday and bingo Thursday lunch brings in the punters Good place

What a great find! Set back from the road and right on the canal, a quintessentially British pub with a warm welcome, fab pub grub, welcoming locals and extra caring staff. Spacious restaurant and beer garden, back bar for the regular drinking trade, landlady is 10/10. I work in hospitality and I will say the beer was the best I've had in a long time, she really must know her stuff. I will definitely be returning very soon!!!

Love this place, friendly staff, great atmosphere, and when the very rare sign of sunshine is out, the outside is great, watching the narrow boats go past is just so peaceful. All the bar staff are so friendly, I have a little banter with Sophie.x

We meet up once a month. We are all exceptionally deaf and it's lovely to be able to converse without background music. Food very good. Staff helpful.

This place has had its ups and downs over the years but it's certainly on an up now. We only had drinks today but the food we saw coming out of the kitchen looked fantastic. Super friendly staff too. Update May 24 : Still a great place to be. Breakfast burger is well recommend especially with a pint of Aspell's.

Food was basic & badly cooked. Came for evening with friends, couldn't even talk when band was on as couldn't hear each other. This used to be a lovely place for a meal but now it's just your basic local pub!!

After waiting 1 hour and 10 mins to get our food my fish was cooked to the inch of its life. Batter was rock hard fish inside was dry.

Great place for all functions ,looked after and catered full brilliantly.

The food was pretty basic, my friend had the lamb hot pot which was really tasty but the portion size was too small.

We visit Tamworth to see family,an the Gate is our go to pub the food and service is top notch. Our Sunday roast was outstanding. Well done to Vicky, Chloe and all them.

Great place, it's our go to for a good meal and great beer. The kids love it too which always makes life easier

The pub is lovely but the food wasnt great. We had mushroom starter which was served in teeny tiny dishes. We couldnt use a fork to eat as they were so hard and super hot ( I burned my lip biting into one) The sauce was drizzled on rather than in a separate dish which made it messy to eat with our fingers. The main was on very small plates so was difficult manovering the food we had. I was a bit disappointed. I think bigger plates/dishes and a bit of garnish wouldnt go a miss. Sorry The pub is lovely though

I found this pub on google maps, and been wanting to try it for awhile. So I finally got the chance to go on Friday 12th January 2024, and it was a lovely experience. Friendly staff, dog friendly pub too and very tasty and delicious food. I started with the Buttermilk chicken strips and popcorn chicken, they were piping hot, crispy and juicy. And for my main course, I had the Ultimate Southern Fried Chicken Burger with chips, it also came with a pot of burger sauce and a little gravy boat of chicken gravy. And I could couldn’t resist a side order of Onion Rings. It was champion. I was very pleased with the overall experience, I think it was great value for money, lovely atmosphere, and looking forward to my next visit.

What amazing service! A bitterly cold and damp December day, we needed to find somewhere to meet up with family who are in this country for a limited time. I have been very poorly and freshly out of hospital I can't take the risk of any infection by mingling indoors with people so we settled down at a table in the pub garden, hoping the rain held off. Family went in to order and a team member carried my steaming cup of hot chocolate out for them. I thanked her and she clearly understood why we were outside (hubby wore a mask going in to order) A few moments later she came back out to explain the back bar had only one customer in it and we could sit at the other end in the warm and feel safely away from germs. We moved indoors, thoroughly enjoyed our food and were able to spend longer together with family than would have been possible out in the cold. Precious moments indeed. Thank you so much to that lady for understanding the situation and suggesting a fix for it. We will be eternally grateful.

Went in today for Sunday lunch I must say the Sunday roast was excellent and really tasty , we had steak pie and chicken burgers as well and they were also lovely There was 3 ladies there all really nice We will be back we was really impressed with tye service and friendly atmosphere

had fantastic meals kids and adult mac n cheese mixed grill bigger appetite fish and chips, pick your own kids sausage mash well worth it and tokens for bottle offers for adults good evening needs better park for kids but barges passing by made it great for kids.

Great place for a pint and and bite to eat right next to the Canal. Good food, draught beers, good location and good service. Prices are good too. Shady outside under the large Willow on a hot day.

Nice pub, on the canal which is a nice setting and can be accessed via the canal if you were on a walk and fancied a drink or a bit to eat. The food was average but tasty. Would recommend the sticky toffee pudding and the mixed grill. Would not recommend the hallumi fries they were not what we expected. Good selection of drinks at the bar good beer and cider on draft.

Meals are excellent and not to pricey. Fillet steak was nice.

I go here every Friday with my dad for coffee after shopping. The service is always excellent, with friendly staff. It's always a pleasant atmosphere with a country feel charm. Well done to staff, making my memories with my dad count.

Lived in Tamworth for 2 years. First time here, pudding just arrived, table 10. Fantastic friendly pub, first class food, will be returning again and again 👌
