A nice few hours good atmosphere a good quality beer and service

Visited here while visiting family in the local area. Friendly staff and locals. Good selection of beer/ale Good reasonably priced food. Would definitely go again

The service was amazing, they could not do enough to accommodate our needs. We were tended to be a young Indian lady, I forgot to ask her name but her manner and attitude was impeccable and she made an already good experience even better. She’s an asset to the restaurant and has leadership qualities. All the other staff were great too but she stood out. We have an autistic son and often in quiet places it can be difficult with him but again we are not made to feel out of place and they were welcoming.

What a treat. It’s not often I choose to write about my meal, but the GB deserves to be recognized! Creative, thoughtful menu, excellent caring staff, lovely calm and elegant setting, that matches the rest of what is likely one of the finest hotels in the UK, and beyond. Don’t be fooled by the name that leads you to think traditional English food. The Brasserie Chef goes above and beyond in executing a world class, Asian influenced meal. From the “Dancing Prawns” to the Short Rib, to the highly unusual Sashimi pasta, and finally, the Pandan Bread Pudding, there wasn’t a miss. This place is calling you to have your next special occasion. Listen to the call.

Great service, great staff, and a great experience!

We had Easter lunch there. The food was adequate but not outstanding, our meal was more like a good pub lunch than a gourmet meal. The service was very attentive and the surroundings were very pleasant.

The service was friendly but some errors were made with the order. This did result in undercooked chicken and whilst the food was not too bad value wise, it wasn’t great and the drinks were expensive, even for a hotel bar.

I dined here two nights in a row while staying at The Gainsborough Hotel in Bath. For the first night, the restaurant ticked all boxes and the experience was top notch. For the second night, things started out well -- but then fell apart after I completed my main course. I was asked whether I would be interested in seeing the dessert menu (to which I said "yes") - but thereafter it seemed that the staff forgot about me completely. After waiting 25 minutes, I did flag down my original server and informed her of the situation and then requested my bill (had I not done that, I wonder how long it would have been before anyone even looked my way) and she apologised and informed the manager who also apologised and took 10% off my bill as compensation. So, while there was a gesture to make good on things, my view of the restaurant did plummet somewhat. Up to that point, it was on a roll... though in hindsight there are clearly a few bugs that need to be ironed out.

Wednesday night was brilliant. The following night (Thursday) was less so and I will review separately. For Wednesday, though, the food was inventive and very tasty. The service was highly attentive and the server made excellent suggestions. A great experience for Wednesday!

Unfortunately our experience at the Brasserie wasn't the best, which was a shame as we were really looking forward to it. The starter was fine, but when we recieved our main, we had to wait for 10 mins for the rice, in fact I had half eaten the main , because I thought that was it Also when I complained, the waitress thrust the bill in my face, told me she had taken 10% off, so sign there, quite intimidating

The quality and presentation of our meals was truly world class, I have been very fortunate to have dinned at many top restaurants around the world and can honestly say I have never eaten better. The restaurant was very quiet due to being just after New Year so our waiter wasn’t over worked, however once again he was top draw as was the barman in the hotels bar. Lovely service from start to finish. Very good breakfast also. My only criticism would be that the wine display fridges in the restaurant are very noisy and obviously require a service.

Service is perfection and exactly what you should expect to receive from such a hotel. The environment is wonderful. The food is well presented and the taste/ flavour is superb. There really isn’t anything I could fault and definitely somewhere I would return to especially for a special occasion.

We had a delicious dinner; the steak was cooked perfectly. What really stands out at The Gainsborough Restaurant is the staff. They are incredibly welcoming and attentive. We stayed at the hotel and ate breakfast in the restaurant twice. We stay at 5 star hotels regularly but the level of service here is exceptional!

Excellent food & service, only gripe would be extremely small Christmas pudding portions.

Food was very nice although steak slightly too well done. Sitting by an open fire is also not the greatest when you're eating dinner. However the most annoying was the waitress hanging over us and pouring water at every opportunity, getting wrong water in wrong glass, pouring very nigh glass fulls and then immediately asking if we wanted more.

We were looked after expertly and found the staff all helpful and friendly. The standard of the food was as expected but all tasty and well presented. We enjoyed the quiet ambience too.

Set festive menu Food was nice , well presented and prepared and restaurant location is very central for drinks afterwards Unfortunately service was very slow on the night and as such was disappointing. The staff couldn’t have been nicer but just didn’t seem to have a system in place

We went to the Gainsborough Arms as a group of 10. We had a lovely carvery with thw choice of chicken, Lamb or beef- lots of vegetables all grown locally. Would reccomend !

Venue is not wheelchair accessible - cannot access indoor areas at all as there is a step at the front door, and steps at the back. There is also no disabled bathroom. This unfortunately meant one of our party felt he couldn't stay. The beer garden does have a ramp but you can't get in without entering the building and going down the steps outdoors. My friend who did go inside to order drinks said it was very, very crowded indoors with no social distancing and no mask wearing. Staff do not enforce rules and do not wear masks themselves either. Honestly felt like we were at an indoor concert on the night we visited. The food, however, is really really good, delicious. Good value as well, cheaper than other small independent pubs in local villages.

Good home cooked food with a warm welcome.

Owners & staff were so kind & helpfull. Bed was huge and super comfy. Decorated beautifully. Food was my favourite part!! Had to have the famous calvary and was everything it lived up too!! Breakfast hit the spot just as well. Will 100% be returning time and time again. Booked for July already for this year.... LOL

This was a treat for my Sister's birthday. I could not fault the experience from arrival to departure. I love this kind of dinning and regularly go to restaurants of this calibre. The food was incredible and the staff were friendly and attentive. I would definitely recommend it and I look forward to going back on my next visit to Bath.

Lovely restaurant and good food

I’ve been to this restaurant 3 or 4 tines before and always found it good. Had a really poor experience on Sunday for lunch. Staters and puddings were good but roast beef was tough and chewy and got sent back, the replacement was the same, the gravy was also really bland - like school dinners. The worst thing was the service, I had to ask for the table to be cleared after our mains after we’d stared at empty plates for a long time. We were then completely abandoned by the staff (it was 3.30pm) and I had to go to the hotel reception to get someone to retrieve our coats then walk around the restaurant and bar looking for someone to pay. A bizarre end to a really poor dining experience.

We had the tasting menu with the wine pairing and both the food and the wines were outstanding. They even had a little surprise for my fiancé as we were celebrating her birthday.

Could not fault the food, from the flavour to the presentation: from the quality of ingredients to the cookery skills. The service was wonderful as was the bread and butter selection. Great wine too by the way! We will return!

Overall our lunch at the Gainsborough was a good experience. However when I booked on Open Table I added that it was a double birthday celebration. Later I added another person to the party and told the person who answered the phone which members of the party were celebrating birthdays so I was sure they would get the correct people. So on the day I was surprised and disappointed that when the pudding arrived there was no 'Happy Birthday' on the plate. I phoned the restaurant manager who tells me that you don't 'do' that anymore so why is there a space on the booking form to tell you?

Food and service excellent as usual but G & TS rather expensive. Plenty of room in the restaurant but not able to book at my preferred time through open table.

It was my wife's 65th Birthday when we visited Dan moon at the Gainsborough, while the food was superb I was disappointed when no recognition of this special event was made even after I had informed them both when booking and on our arrival. It spoilt what was meant to be special. Love the place but unhappy with this missing spark

This is an elegant restaurant with a restrained ambiance. The food was delicious, without being outstanding and so appropriately priced. The champagne cocktail was a bit mean at £18 for a small flute - (if you have to open a bottle of champagne, then you may as well give the client a decent sized glass!)

We dined at Dan Moon’s at lunchtime. They have a two for one deal on their set lunch. The cooking was sublime. The service excellent, in the hotel and restaurant. If you are anywhere near Bath make the trip you won’t regret it.

Went to Dan Moon for Sunday Lunch. It was the longest 3 course set menu lunch I ever had and it was exhausting. Waiter was gracious when I asked him to please do not forget our table but nothing changed. Food was very good but the overall experience with such wait times in between plates and even to get water was just too much on a Sunday. Front of House Manager gave me his card on the way out for next time, but they don't realise there is only one first time to make a good impression. Why not have a gesture when I am still there?

Little bit more on customers service would be good, on arrival we felt push from one colleague to another. Lovely experience overall.

We enjoyed a fantastic lunch in great surroundings. The service is first class and the lunch deal offers brilliant value for money.

Loved the breads with different butters.The cheese board was very well presented as well as tasty. The chicken parfait starter was so rich but delicious a great depth of flavour. I enjoyed the Pork Tenderloin especially the salt baked celeriac. We will definitely be back.

Dining room very disappointing, definitely not the feel of a 5 star hotel, much more like a bistro. Dining room requires good quality linen tablecloths, very stark white paintwork needs to be ivory satin and quality curtains not Roman blinds. The food was excellent and the service was very good.

Perfect place to meet up with a very dear ex PMRAFS nurses way back over 40yrs. You could not fault the food , service and setting . We have been three times now and it never fails to please us . Food is nicely presented with love ,care ,attention to detail and above all tastes great . Great value for money . Look forward to going again .

I’v eaten at this restaurant several times and will do so again next week. It is arguably the best in Bath, the Menus are superb and the food presented beautifully . The selection of breads and butters prior to the 1st course is a great improvement on the usual basket of sliced stick. All 3 courses were excellent , the wine list is comprehensive and house wines by the glass are available. Overall, dining at the Gainsborough is a most enjoyable event. Mr Moon is a most imaginative Chef.

10/10 for a wonderful lunch at remarkable value on the 2 for 1 deal (3 courses). Probably the best lunch we've ever had in Bath.

I don't normally do reviews, but for here I wanted to. Overall a great experience. Nice ambience (apart from one, slightly tipsy, loud mouth diner), attentive service and nice little touches- but the food, both ingredients & preparation were sublime! I believe the Gainsborough's restaurant currently enjoys a 3 AA red rosette rating, but the overwhelming impression I was left with after dining there was that Dan Moon appears to be gunning for his first star?!! Outstanding!

We had set menu I have been regularly and have always enjoyed menu & food .I found this month's choice not up to the usual standard. But you can't please everyone.

As usual an excellent meal. One of our favourite restaurants. We will be returning very soon.

Lovely Sunday lunch and great service. The roast beef was gorgeous. The only issue was that the sticky toffee pudding was black, burnt and completely inedible and had to be sent back. We were still charged for the full amount as well. Not good enough for an establishment as good as this. Apart from that it was a great experience and I would go again.

The food was excellent and beautifully presented, from the breads with the different butters to complement them, to the coffee and chocolates. Everything we chose was tasty and perfectly cooked. The service was also friendly and efficient. The lunchtime deal was very good value too. We enjoyed it so much we booked to come on the evening of my husband’s birthday in a couple of weeks. I've been for the Dan Moon tasting on a number of occasions. Every time, until now, I had an excellent time. Unfortunately, this was far from ideal experience, with my Wife been insulted right at the start of our evening with the Waiter suggesting that she was pregnant (when she is not). This remark left us with an unenjoyable rest of our visit this time which is a great shame. The food was good, but dampened off the bat from the service.

Had a lovely drink in the bar before going to our table. We were served by a lovely Scottish waitress who had a chat with us and explained the flavours of the gins, while we had our drinks there were nibbles on the table to enjoy before we were led to our table. The menu is compact but still with many options for everyone to enjoy which we did! We had the 5 course tasting menu and one person had that with wine pairings; the food itself was gorgeous and so well presented with each dish having exquisite flavourings. After all of the courses, I was given a plate of truffles as a happy birthday gesture which was greatly appreciated!! The service was impeccable and everyone was extremely friendly

We had a 2-for-1 lunch deal with 3 courses. Waiters were attentive but not intrusive, and very pleasant. The food was beautifully served. The second cheapest bottle of red was lovely. They give you a small selection of different breads and unusual butters to go with them which, like the main event, were delicious. All in all, a lovely dining experience for my wife's birthday.

Very cost, comfortable restaurant with good choice of menus - a la carte or 5 or 7 course tasting menus with or without wine so something for everyone. We dined from the a la carte and were very pleased with our choices. The staff that served us were very friendly and set the tone for a nice break at the hotel for my husband's birthday. There was also a good cocktail menu in the bar and nice wine list to choose from.

The Dan Moon Gainsborough is the definition of "All fur coat and no Knickers". Myself and my parter were underwhelmed at the standard of the food and declined to eat two of the five course we were given. Unfortunately it was not as described neither the price reflect the quality we received.

We have wanted to try the restaurant for a while, so we were delighted to see that there was a 2 for 1 lunchtime offer, which made the 3 course meal very affordable. All of the staff were extremely pleasant and professional and we were made to feel very welcome. The food choice was excellent, and the food itself was outstanding, beautifully presented and delicious. We will return and recommend to friends and family.

Recommended to me by a friend, so booked for my husband’s birthday. First class establishment, difficult to fault in any way....attentive service, delicious, well presented imaginative food served in a relaxing setting. Personally I am not keen when restaurants add 12.5% service charge as I would rather decide on gratuities myself, but just my own small preference. We will return!
