GAIL’s Bakery West Hampstead in Camden

Their almond croissants are that hard I almost lost my teeth. Clearly hadn’t been checked by staff before selling, you practically have to take a mortgage out to pay for Gail’s pastries anyway, so this isn’t good enough.

Avoid. Reasons, below: This overrated chain only accepts card payments (yes, you should try to pay with cash wherever you go), unhappy staff, which translates into rude staff and price/value is way inclined towards price. For example, the cinnamon bun was decent. Price increased 25%, then 50%, then 100%. If the Gail's owner is a landlord, I feel for the tenants. If anything, get a tea, sit down, and use the space as your office - that's what most people I used to see there do.

Surprised how busy this place is My Croissant wasn't stale but it was certainly not freshly baked. Spoke to a Manager and her honesty was breathtaking.... Not recommended

Please inform your staff that they need to be respectful towards the customers. Your ridiculous policy is against having dogs sitting in the cafe, fine! But if someone just wants to pay and leave, your staff shouldn't argue and ask them to leave the dog outside and come back and pay for a bread or a coffee! I had a similar experience in the other Gail's store in Belsize park. Have some respect and show decency towards people who pay your wages and support your business.

Extremely poor hygiene. The toilets were filthy, looked as though they hadn’t been cleaned for days. The restaurant floor was equally dirty.

Staff make all the difference . Lovely people serving warm coffee on a cold day. Great asset to West Hampstead.

We ordered Soft Baked Eggs with bacon, we asked if the eggs were soft and were assured they were by the server taking our order - we even joked that there’s nothing good about hard eggs! The dishes arrived and the eggs were like bullets, I took them to the ‘cooks’ and explained the situation, a very rude and flippant ‘cook’ explained that that’s how the machine cooks then, I suggested they programmed it to cook for less time, she shrugged her shoulders said ‘sorry we can’t’ and continued her conversation with her colleague - this is a blatant lie, they can be programmed for as little or long as one chooses. I was going to bring it to the attention of the manager but he disappeared before we left and I decided that the awful experience wasn’t worth spoiling a sunny Sunday with my hubby and daughter. We will never visit this branch or any other for that matter again, the experience has left such a nasty taste, they should be ashamed to allow staff who are obviously untrained in customer interface communication to work in their establishments.

Went with husband and our baby. Coffee and cakes were delicious and staff friendly. They use real chocolate in the hot chocolate and mocha and it's really tasty. Gave us a free muffin too which was kind. Pain au chocolat was so tasty.

All staff are so unpleasant- no eye contact, rushed service, make you feel like you’re a nuisance to be inside this Gails.. Staff just kept joking and chatting between themselves, without paying any attention to customers and again, really serious and curt service all throughout. £3.70 for a tiny soy cappuccino too.. I’ll give it a miss next time

Gails is the one but out of all of them this one on bell size park is the best… always full of options especially the cinnamon swirls they are my fave!! Never dissapoints.

Reliable consistent quality, good service, clean. No ash trees on tables outside thank goodness to encourage awful smoking. Wide Selection of savoury and sweet goods. Out of all the cafés on Western Lane this is and has been my favourite place. Also with a loyalty card system.Only downside is that it is super busy from being such a well run bakery, it’s obviously become a favourite with the neighbourhood. It’s put the other coffee shops in the shade.

As someone that has visited this shop several times, I can wholeheartedly recommend. Too many coffee chains use average coffee beans but I am pleased to note that this isn’t the case over here. Lovely display of baked goods and the staff aren’t intimidating in the slightest. If you love a flat white and you’re in the area you may just have a new favourite spot.

We visited recently and all had a brunch. The quality was excellent and the portions large. In particular the vegan options were delicious. The fresh coffee was outstanding.....the best on the West End Lane by far. The Patisserie counter is fabulous. We thoroughly recommend that you visit this amazing place!

What a delight! We ended up returning several times to Gail's for tea, coffee, even breakfast. Each time was a delight. Note: be sure to get the SMALL cappuccino, or it will be milk with coffee, rather than coffee with milk. You must specify. The various sweets we tried were all wonderful, as was the tea. Breakfast here was tasty and fun because it's clearly a local favorite of many.

I enjoyed a late 22.00 hrs coffee in this branch of Gail's. I was served by a very delightful young lady called Gabriela. Who was very personable and cleaned our table, prior to the enjoyment of the Cappuccino. It was a very cold night so the cafe was a welcome distraction, and a chance to warm up. Upon leaving Gabriela thanked me for my custom and said that she hoped to see me again.

Abbiamo fatto colazione al Gail’s un paio di mattine e siamo usciti sempre contenti. Mio figlio desiderava un’english breakfast ed è stato accontentato con uova e pancetta, stese su fette di pane bianco. E poi una seconda volta ha mangiato degli ottimi pancakes. Noi abbiamo scelto una colazione più italiana, eccetto il giorno in cui ho deciso per un porridge coi mirtilli. È un locale molto frequentato dai residenti che si fermano volentieri ai tavoli a lavorare e a parlare. Il personale è (quasi tutto) gentile e disponibile, in modo particolare una ragazza di Napoli, garbata e accogliente, che scambia volentieri qualche parola in italiano. Consigliato!
