Gail's Artisan Bakery in City of London, Westminster

I usually like gails as the food is great, however I came into this branch to do some work, and the staff were very very rude. I have a broken bone which is very obvious, and I was struggling and was greeted with sass and judgemental looks, and no offer to help. They didn't even offer me a glass to use with the £4.20 cold drink I bought from the fridge. It's such a shame that such an expensive place hires such a grumpy bunch of employees. :(

Big feat to have my nigh on immobile elderly husband walk to the Common with the incentive of a Gails coffee and croissant this morning. At least the service was a bit better than last time when it was so slow with clearly new staff - they didn't even know what a pain au raisin was! This time the croissants, which looked wonderful, were dry and clearly not this morning's - a huge shame, when David made the pond, only to find the croissants were too dry to eat! Surely Gails can do better than this?

Cakes were really good but in a super dog friendly place like Wimbledon village we were upset to be turfed out ( already sitting down, cakes on plates, coffee on its way) as we had Ned the dog. No sign on the door to say Ned wasn't welcome. Don't go there, no need, there are plenty of other amazing and welcoming places in the village.

Possibly the worst cup of coffee that I've ever been made in London. Completely disinterested staff and an appalling outcome. Other branches of Gail's have friendly staff, delicious cakes and are able to make a flat white. Not here. Definitely avoid if you are in Wimbledon

Sourdough bread is fine but the scones are ridiculously expensive and more like rock cakes. The counter service is consistently charmless. I don't know whether Gail's hires miserable people or creates them but give them some happy pills for god's sake

Un endroit sympathique pour un petit-déjeuner ou un déjeuner. Pâtisseries, quiches, sandwiches ou salades, sur place ou à emporter. Sans chichi avec toute une chaîne de restaurants en ville.

Un choix de pâtisseries très fourni mais pas toujours au goût français. Certains sont un peu du "bourre dindon". Le bun à la cannelle, en revanche, est très bon. La salle est vraiment petite mais sympathique.

Amazingly delicious savoury pastry and bold long black. Other pastry and bread looked amazing. Prompt service. A little cramped but so worth it!

Just went in for Coffee and an amazing Blueberry Muffin, on our way to the Men's Final. The smell of the bread is amazing - reminds me of my young days passing a local bakery, which are now mainly long gone from our villages. Great coffee, Muffin - wow factor

Whilst I love the products bar one i.e. the hot chocolate is terrible, I was so incensed today to once again experience poor service in my case non at all. I walked in opening the door for a lady as she was carrying her tray to sit outside (crazily given the weather is chilly) . Only to go to the counter to get my regular treat and not get served as others just got served in front of me despite coming in after. The chap at the counter paid no attention to which customer had been there waiting first. Nor to me helping a customer by keeping the door open Despite being very local I don't get a 'hi' a 'bye' any greeting whatsoever almost like it pains the staff to serve me. The same goes for my partner. Its actually me who greets them. Yet I have never complained. Problem is its happening far too often and given the options in the Village I just went next door. I didn't realise till now that other customers feel the same till I read the many reviews below . I equally never write reviews but today made me angry. Change the staff's attitude or lose my custom.

Visited Gail's Bakery Wimbledon last Monday; It was nice and I loved the pastries- the cinnamon bun, blueberry brioche. I got so excited just looking at the selections. The pastries were delicious. The place is cozy- I liked the sofa inside. They also have some chairs outdoor (probably 2-3 tables). There is wifi which is one of the things I look for in a cafe. The servers are okay.

I LOVE Gails! The food always delivers in every branch I’ve visited. Yet, the customer service at Wimbledon village is always so poor! The queues are ridiculous. The staff seem to stand around a lot looking confused and uninterested! During all of my many visits I don’t recall a single occasion when anyone has said hello or asked me how I am? Or smiled!!? Shocking!! There is always a girl standing around behind the counter doing nothing but chatting to the guy making coffee. They are so rude and snobbish! It’s like they are doing you a favour! Once you have made it through the “snail pace” ordering part of your experience. You get a coffee passed to you over the counter with no greeting, words, thank you or explanation, the whole experience is just awful! The only reason I continue to subject myself to this unpleasant customer experience is because I do love the food and coffee! If anywhere else opens in the village, I will seriously consider ditching Gails. Please sort out the management and staffing in this branch! I cannot be the only person that ensures this awful experience each time they visit!!

for such an expensive chicken sandwich they manage to find the worst quality chicken. And the cinnamon buns are becoming worse and worse.

It's always a treat in our house to have their sausage rolls! Staff are efficient ad friendly. Good variety of delicious breads

On our trips to the UK we always look forward to an old fashioned type of afternoon tea, like our grannies used to make, as we can't find this in France where we live. While visiting Wimbledon village we noted that Gail's had some good looking sourdough bread so we went in and bought a loaf (which we ate later on and which was the best loaf we managed to find during our 2 week stay in London and Kent). We liked the homely look of the seating area inside and decided we'd come back later in the afternoon to have tea there. There was a vast selection of buns and cakes on display and it was difficult to choose what to have but we settled on blueberry muffins which were delicious. The ambience was cosy and informal and we didn't feel we were being rushed in any way so we were able to check our emails whilst relaxing from all the rushing around we'd been doing. We did notice customers coming to the counter to buy bread etc and there did seem to be a bit of difficulty with communication due to the language differences of the staff but we didn't find this too problematic as we had managed to make ourselves understood. A lovely little bakery and tea room which we will be happy to visit again.

Been here a few times as they have lovely bread and cakes. I wanted to purchase some gluten free cakes yesterday, to eat today. I asked the sales lady if they would still be fresh if I kept them one day. She responded ‘how would I know?’ The staff are repeatedly rude here, so I don’t stop for a coffee, but just get my bread and go. What a shame, that the staff dissuade customers from enjoying the products. Surprised that head office have not sorted this bad staffing attitude, as it has been going on for years, even tho staff change the attitude is consistently aggressive and unhelpful.

Surprised by the mixed reviews. I have always found Gail's to be excellent and the fact that is always busy would suggest they are doing something write. The coffee is excellent and the cake offering vast. The cinnamon buns are excellent. A firm favourite with me!

This is by far the worse Gail’s I have visited. All the staff are very rude and it has a very unfriendly atmosphere. They often make coffee luke warm, so when asking for a hot coffee, their faces drop and and seem annoyed. I have been to Gail’s in Wimbledon many times as it’s my nearest one, but now I avoid it which is a shame as I do like Gail’s coffee. They are always sold out of the salmon and avocado rolls too. AVOID GAILS IN WIMBLEDON.

Panadería muy concurrida que ofrece platos ligeros para el desayuno y una gran variedad de tartas y pasteles. El personal es muy servicial, la comida se ordenó y se pagó en el mostrador y luego fue servida por un personal muy agradable. Lugar ideal para reunirse con amigos o ir en familia para disfrutar de algo agradable para comer.

Es una pequeña panadería / cafetería. Muy buenos pasteles y pan, buen café. El café es muy pequeño y está ocupado todo el tiempo, ya que también es una panadería donde la gente simplemente busca un pan que significa esperar. Hay una buena selección de desayunos, pasteles, sándwiches. Nice d cor, el personal está trabajando duro.

i have been using this chain for breakfast for the last 3 years however the service at this branch is disappointing,most of the time attend here I had to clear up the table myself as the staff behind the counter do not really clear up once the customers leave.

I come here regularly for my scrambled eggs in sourdough (delightful and delicious!). Lovely decor, bright and very comfortable. BUT the service! Slow, generally on the miserable side of 'I hate my job and hate working with people', and, to be blunt, cold and distant. I'm not looking for new friends or anything like that but it's everything BUT the people working in the place that brings me back. I always leave with a full, happy belly and the hope that next time there be a sense of warmth from the staff. Still waiting......

Pedimos un café y un bocadillo tostado y sentarme, pero nunca llegaron. No nos dieron un recibo ni un marcador para llevar a nuestra mesa, así que cuando volvimos a preguntar donde estaban tuvieron que buscar de nuevo a través de su sistema para encontrar nuestra petición. Cuando llegaron, el café estaba frío, aunque el sándwich era buena. Mientras que los miembros individuales del personal era amable, parecía estar desprovisto de gestión o indiferente- mientras estuvimos allí otro cliente tenía que había montones de tazas y platos sucios fuera en la acera.

Mi esposa y yo pedimos un pastel de canela y un rollo de salchichas con un latte y un capuchino decafe. Suena sencillo, pero en el café Gail, es uno de los mejores que encontrará. El Pan de Canela hoy era muy poco hecha, falta un poco de frescura, pero estaba lleno de sabor, no obstante. El rollo de salchicha fue mojada, suculento y también llena de sabor, uno de los mejores que he probado. Gails está al final de la mayoría de las expectativas de precios altos, pero vale la pena si tienes tiempo para disfrutar del ambiente.

What I like about Gail's is the variety of treats on display although I found for some things to be a bit pricey. For example the Chelsea Buns are a bit small and too expensive.

Looking for a good cup of coffee at an independent. Very efficient and friendly service but sadly the coffee lacked the wow factor. It was ok but needs to be better.

My gf and I go here most Sundays and pick up some delicious treats before heading to the Common. Gail's is wonderful. The breads and treats available are freshly baked and are full flavour. The staff are super lovely as well. Love Gail's

Gail's is a good bakery their food is really worth it, salty or sweet. But what is awful is service and organization equal to zero. Sometimes you see four waitresses and people waiting to be served waiting for their slow service. It's unacceptable that they have a card for tea and bread and don't can't mark down a sandwich made with their own bread. Another point is about their recharge for food when you usually have a mess. If this recharge is due to waitress low service, no cleaning the management should think about improvements!!!!

I often go to Gails in Wimbledon Village for coffee and something from their selection of baked goods. It is a good place to sit and read during the week, weekends can get very busy but if you hang around you might get a table or treat yourself to a take away cup of coffee while you stroll through Wimbledon Village.

This bakery has a large amount of sweets and everything we tried was very good. The service was friendly and we went back more than once while in town.

El Pan de Canela define Gail: excelente y merece muchas visitas. El resto de las tartas, pasteles y bocadillos son igualmente excelentes, aunque las opciones más grandes del desayuno son 'ok'. El servicio es irregular y variable a veces, pero vale la pena la espera....

Craqueo de café. Excepcional pasteles. Bollos de canela eran 3 libras cada uno, pero vale la pena cada céntimo. Delicioso. Establece el bar en el pueblo. Muy bueno.

Simplemente buscando un aperitivo en una zona que no conocíamos (pimlico). Un montón de pasteles muy tentador, pan, pasteles. Todo hecho supongo por el propietario. Gran lugar para un aperitivo. Wc en el establecimiento.

Went to Gail's at Wimbledon Village twice this week. It serves the best coffee in Wimbledon Village and has the best cakes. Do try the orange and almond cup cake. It's moist, light and gluten free. Service is friendly and good. Pity the place is relatively small so at times it's difficult to get seats.

Completely ignored at the counter despite there being four people pottering away. The woman supposedly doing the transactions decided to sit down and talk to a friend instead. Another customer had to loudly request for me to served. No apology was given and the woman who eventually served me had limited english speaking ability.Sad really as the coffee was good but I believe service is everything especially when competition is ride in Wimbledon village. Would not recommend.

What a find!! Love my coffee. The best barista in Wimbledon, he understood coffee. Food fresh, breads and pastries very tempting. I'll be visiting this bakery again and again.

Went here for a quick lunch. Chose a very generous salmon salad which was delicious.The coffee was too strong for me but the staff changed it for tea at no extra charge.Food is lovely, but the inside needs more warmth and atmosphere. The takeaway experience is better than the eat in.

If you are looking to enjoy great coffee , in an Artisan Cafe with superb pastries , sandwiches and more this is a must visit place. The Village at Wimbledon is spoiled for choice and no doubt the competition is high. We have tried the others and we can confirm that Gail's is the one I would make my very first choice.

Had breakfast here during Wimbledon fortnight. Smoked Salmon and Scrambled Eggs on delicious wholemeal bread. Cheese straws just the right amount of sogginess beneath a puff pastry crust. Cinnamon bun perfect.
