Gaangchil in Mid Sussex

Have been ordering from Gaanchil for years and never had a problem always lovely food and speedily delivered. Tonight food 40 minutes late, chicken tikka was tasteless , tough and accompanied by raw onions and no salad no mint sauce. The cauliflower bhaji had a watery sauce that tasted of raw spices. When queried where order was told running behind so very disappointing.

Both our favorite Indian restaurant have closed so we gave our most local another go after a poor first experience I must say a great improvement and we have ordered take away 3 more times, each time they have been very good strong flavours and in my case plenty of heat

Normally good curry but tonight was awful …. Very bland and watered down - my bhoona had no potato in and my wife’s Rogan was predominantly tomato and not a lot of chicken and both tasted very similar Very disappointing and probably will not order again Need to find another curry takeaway

This was the worst meal I've ever and NOT what I expected from the photos. Its was tasteless and really NOT EDIDABLE THE WORSE £26.00 I've ever spent on a take-away. IT WAS ABSOLUTE RUBBISH. . . . Chicken Baranyi, Sag Aloo, Mushroom Bhaji HOW CAN THIS BE TASTELEES ???

Absolutely spot on. I asked for something extra hot (Carolina reaper hot, the chef went above and beyond ti make it incredibly flavorable without the need to make it too thick like most would. The rest of the order was also incredibly flavorable. This is my go to place for top quality Indian food. Customer service is also fantastic.

Friday treat… turned into Saturday sick. Over priced and tasteless. Me and my wife both had the sh*ts she was sick too, I wasn’t sick tho- but she really suffered. Never again. Dirty scummy place

Can management comment as to why this is.. i will not use again until a 5 rating is given this is shocking.

if you are staying at Copthorne hotel and want a takewaway without having to drive 20 minutes, then I recommend the Gaangchil. Nothing fancy about the place but the food is really good. Freshly ground spices, very nice fresh-tasting sauce. Reasonable prices. It's really worth a try. And while you're there, there is also a Spar supermarket where you can pick up any extra snacks you may need.

I had the vegetable tikka curry with mushroom rice and it was the best vege curry ive had in a very long time. Wasnt expecting much as for reasons beyond me vege indian curries in the uk are normally very bland so this was a great surprise. Thanks

The food here is brilliant and definitely the best in our area (Crawley Down/Copthorne). I’m pretty fussy when it comes to curries and flavour but this is up there. Also delivered piping hot which always makes a difference. Highly recommend .

Awful service tonight. After being a loyal customer for many years it took 3.45 hours to deliver and some of our order missing. Called many times to finally be told they had sold out of food but still took our money and promised they would deliver but after 4.5 hours they finally admitted they didn’t have some of our order but no offer of refund at all. We will not be using them again. Really poor customer service and ruined our NYE

I previously reviewed Gaangchil at the start of lockdown when it provided local access to great curry on several occasions.Then along came “Eat out to help out” and we ventured out to support other local restaurants. With the end of this initiative we decided to order from Gaangchil on Saturday. We placed our order on the website at 6:00pm with delivery time showing as 55 min. Food delivered at 7:05, neatly packed, hot and without spillage.To relieve the tedium of lockdown and satisfy the need for an Indian we decided to give Gaangchil a try on Saturday as it is very local and none of our usual favourites would deliver to our address. If you order regularly the website has facility to repeat a previous order with any desired omissions or additions.We went with our staple of vegetable pakora, chicken madras, mushroom bhaji, boiled rice and nan bread. The delivered meal was of the same high standard as previously and was could not be faulted.As before portions were large, but as food was delicious this was not a problem. For smaller appetites this order could easily have served two people.When we ordered the time for the collection option was 35 min with a 10% discount. I may try this in the near future as we will continue to use this excellent local business. Being super critical the only niggle was the track order option on the website which does not update and still showed our meal as “cooking” even when we were sitting down to eat.

Ordered takeaway from an easy website, quick and friendly delivery, great tasting food , hot with a great selection of dishes i would highly recommend

To relieve the tedium of lockdown and satisfy the need for an Indian we decided to give Gaangchil a try on Saturday as it is very local and none of our usual favourites would deliver to our address. What a find. We ordered at 5:30 and a delivery time of 6:15 was given. 30 minutes later a smiling gent delivered our order, brilliant, we have waited longer in a restaurant on many occasions. Ordering and paying online was straight forward and the opportunity to change delivery times was givenFood when it arrived was hot and well packed with no spillages. We ordered vegetarian mixed veg pakora for starters. Absolute perfection, and the mint sauce was good too. Would order again just for the pakora.I went with my usual chicken madras, mushroom bhaji, boiled rice and nan bread. Chicken was tender and moist and curry sauce was plentiful and well spiced. If anything, the sauce was thinner than I would expect, but plentiful. There was no excess fat or oil on it. Mushroom bhaji was excellent and mushrooms looked hand chopped. Rice was nicely cooked and separated easily when removed from the container. Nan was nicely cooked with great texture and again was not covered in ghee.Portions were large, but as food was delicious this was not a problem. For smaller appetites this order could easily have served two people.Meal cost was approximately £20 which is higher than other local takeaways, but as it included a very prompt free delivery it represented great value in the present circumstances.Having discovered this gem just a few hundred yards up the road we will definitely be using again long after lockdown ends and normality returns

Having been disappointed several weeks running with ordering our Saturday night takeaway.Understandable the restaurants are facing difficulties with less staff etc .We decided to order from this takeaway. We were amazed at the fact the food came at exactly the time they told us. The food was excellent and still hot when it arrived. Definitely recommend.

The takeaway (only) food is always top quality and delivered 'piping hot' and on time. They are reliable (what you order is what you get). It has been like this since we moved nearby (for the last 3 years).

Consistently good take away food.Although the flavours change a bit depending on which chef is working (Something we like, its not a negative) the food is always fresh and tasty.Delivery can sometimes take a while but to be safe we just order an hour before we want it and specify a time for delivery.Gaangchil defiantly our favourite take away treat.

Food isn’t worth the 2 hour wait. When I called they wasn’t even apologetic. Second time this has happened.

We were staying at the Copthorne just up the rd before our flight the next day so we ordered a lamb madras & a king prawn Sri Lanka both were really good if not a tad oily & they gave us extra cartons to use as plates would definitely use again cheers

I ordered a curry from here to be delivered to an airport hotel at which we were staying at prior to an early morning flight. It arrived with no problems.. we didn't have to wait in reception as the driver called us to say he was on his way. We collected from the door and it was one of the most delicious pathias i have ever had. Had the correct balance of sweetness to sour, accompanied with perfect pilau rice and garlic naan, we gollopped the lot. Will deffo use again whilst in Gatwick. Thankyou.

I have ordered food from here previously and whilst it took a while to be delivered it was fantastic, hence we ordered again. Once again, the food was great but also once again it took a while to be delivered, this time 30 minutes longer than we were told! The delivery guy pretty much handed the bag over and vanished, in hindsight I now know why! Having placed the bag onto my kitchen worktop and looking into it I noticed a lot of sauce slopped around the top of the containers and the bag was heavily soiled with it, on picking the bag back up the containers started falling through the bottom and I then noticed the mess it had left on my work top, thankfully after using a lot of cleaning products the staining has pretty much gone. Needless to say I telephoned and explained the above, I also explained that I had a really nice meal and the main reason for ringing was to let them know about the delivery as I would hate for that sort of service to affect them when the food itself had been so good, I said I had photos and could email them which I did, it’s been nearly a week and a half since I did that, not heard a peep from them from which I can only conclude they aren’t actually that bothered which is a shame as off the back of that I won’t be using them again, fantastic food, shame about the service....and just to say the man I spoke to started by saying about doing something for me with my next order, which I replied I wasn’t after anything, just letting them know as wouldn’t want the delivery to affect negatively given how good the food was....whilst the delay and delivery problems were not acceptable this doesn’t take away from the fact that the food itself was very tasty and for that reason I give 4 stars...

Just don't go, really, I think its dire. last time I ordered takeaway for 3 of us, when we opened it we could not tell the difference, really oily and one guy had a dodgy belly the next day, which i assume was due to the food.

Always have an amazing takeaway from here - there is no restaurant option which means your order is usually made quickly. The Indian food tastes fresh and light and there is a great many choices on the menu. Highly recommend!

The best thing about this place it the consistency of the food. Dishes taste the same each time you order so you find one you like and its always great. I love their Chicken jalfrezi is really good, with great heat and flavour. Onion bhajis are lovely too. Friendly drivers and easy ordering via their app. Whats not to like?

After a year or so of not using this place we decided to give it another go this evening unfortunately the food lacked flavour and any authenticity the dishes were of similar taste regardless of curry chosen and without any real taste I called to inform them and to their credit they did send me a replacement in good time, however the replacement was still not of the standard it once was

The food was good but not great no one dish stood out. plain simple dishes I am more likely to will use the one in Crawley Down or East Grinstead

Superb food as always but just remember to add half and hour to the pick up time on a busy day. Oh and the price isn't bad!

After 2 hours, we called and followed up on our delivery; an accident had caused delivery issues. We decided to go down and collect - only to find out they hadn’t started even prepping our food. Terrible experience all round

This is by far one of the best places for takeaway in the area, it's delicious and the ingredients good quality and really fresh. Service is excellent and their app is a brilliant way to order.

I was looking for an Indian meal while partying with friends. We found Gaangchil on our way. We stopped for dinner but found this is a takeaway on the road side. However, we ordered food, and that was very tasty and very authentic to us. While waiting, we managed to have a word with the chef. He is an experienced guy and won some curry awards in his long career. A master who efficiently melted the Indian spices in British taste bud. We ordered some take away for BBQ as well, and management served us with a big smile. Only parking was a little bit lucky on that busy road!

the second unplanned time we used Gaangchil and twice we were rewarded with great food and a good price

Never been disappointed with food from here! They don't normally cover Langley Green for delivery but as we're regulars they make an exception. The food always arrives hot, delivered by friendly individuals and keeps us coming back for more!!!

Primera vez ordenar aquí, ordenados 2 curries y, entrantes y los lados. Mi curry no era como se describe, de hecho tenía un montón de pimientos rojo y verde (no en la descripción), cebolla en el menú era subtituted con cebolla normal y no había encurtidos (en la descripción). Lo que estaba muy lejos de lo que pedimos.

Han estado usando este para llevar 18 meses ahora, al menos una vez a la semana. He notado que de repente sólo se ha convertido en cara. Creo que es tiempo para encontrar otro para llevar. . . . Lástima! Otros sitios de comida para llevar en la zona son de hasta un 30% más barato.

We planned to have a delivery from this Indian restaurant - the food is always excellent - but then a blizzard began and the snow was quite thick.We decided to order anyway to see what happens and to my surprise the delivery arrived in good time, hot and freshly prepared.I like it spicy and my favourite dish is the Goanese Chicken, which i ask them to make Vindaloo hot and is always excellent.

Great quality food and so convenient to collect. Friendly staff and the food was ready when they said it would be.

We use this take away at least once a month. The flavour of the curries are great. The real depth of flavour encourages you to try different curries. You can order using their online system which is ace. It also offers you to choose different heat levels to your curry. They also have a loyalty card. My only criticism is that the different chefs have different id as of heat. However the chefs that are on Friday and Saturday bare very consistent. Fair prices and quick to deliver.

Thought this place was a gem when first opened, but has steadily gone downhill, and we have had cause to complain on a few occasions due to quality and temperature of food and really toughest. This last time however, they have not even had the courtesy to respond to our email. Could do with a new chef and some customer service training!

Saag Aloo is one of my favourite dishes and it was cooked to a treat and just spicey enough. Lamb Biriani was so tasty and lots of meat which is not often the case. Excellent value for money and a treat to have.

Great food which can be ordered via their app. Fresh, hot and delicious. Has to be one of the best around Crawley. Quite slow deliver at busy times.

Please don't be mislead by my title, I've had many takeaways from Gaangchil and they have all been excellent. Indian food over the past 20 years seems to be trying to be something it is not with restaurants trying to out do each other with the latest wildest new creation. The chef at Gaanchil seems to be able to cook the food that we all fell in love with many years ago. My only criticism is the chicken they use, they need to address this as its a poor ingredient in otherwise great food.

We wanted to try a local take-away as new to this area, but was worried about some of the bad reviews. Gave them a call, the man I spoke to was very helpful and was assured the food would be good and not "greasy" as mentioned in one review. We were not disappointed and it was delivered in the given time. The food was delicious and we will definitely be ordering again. Thank you.

The food is fantastic although on occasion can be greasy, if you ask for no grease then they happily oblige. We always have it delivered and although they say 45 mins it usually only takes 20-25 minutes.

Me and my brother fancied a quick take away, so we decided to try this as it has a good rating on Trip AdvisorWhen we arrived the owners family were lounging around the customer waiting area dressed in their traditional Islamic hijab dress.I thought we may get authentic Pakistani or Bangladeshi cuisine The curry was tasteless and there was a strange after taste. Each mouthful made me feel uncomfortable. There was something wrong with the curry, I can't put my finger on it but there was a funny smellThe rice was not great and the meat tough.If this is authentic Pakistani or Bangladeshi food I will not be visiting either country I think in future stick I will stick with authentic Indian cuisine like the Downsman or Greyhound.

This take away has gone seriously downhill since it opened. At first, the food was excellent, now the portions have become smaller, and on a recent visit, there was very little meat in the curry. The lamb was in very small chunks, and very little of it. We did complain, because it was so bad, but unfortunately the replacement was just as poor. Will definitely not be using again. Sorry, but you have to provide far better food than this,

We've been on the hunt for a decent curry house since our last favourite stopped serving curries and have experienced lots of disappointing meals from various other restaurants.Finally, we decided tonight to try out Gaangchil and were so pleased that we did. Flavoursome food, delivered on time that we really enjoyed. Lovely fresh chapatis and a good balance of heat and flavour. Will definitely be using again.

Whenever we want an Indian, this is the only place that we go. We haven't had a bad meal at all. The standard is consistent, the flavours fantastic and definitely the only place to go in the area.

We have been having food delivered since this place first opened and can say in the beginning the food was excellent and the portion sizes were also good.The last few times we have had food we have been disappointed at the portion sizes which have reduced considerably so no longer feel that they provide value for money.I have left feedback direct on the online website feedback form but have never heard back from them, why bother asking for feedback if you never respond to complaints?Tonight we ordered a chicken tikka masala which was really watery and more like thin soup than a sauce.The bits of chicken have reduced in size in comparison to other local takeaway restaurants so whilst I always prefer to shop local and this place is less than half a mile away I will in future be using a different takeaway restaurant.All in all a real shame as I will also not recommend this place to my friends and family who also live locally

We use this excellent take away restaurant very frequently and we now use it instead of going to a restaurant. Their food is always very good and is delivered efficiently and on time. All ordering can be done on line and their reward program will give you free food after every third visit.Thoroughly recommended

Excellent meal - best we have had since moving out of London ; ) So delighted to have discovered such a GREAT takeaway. Fresh, subtle, perfectly spicy. We had the Goanese Chingrhi, Paneer Jalfrezi and the Goanese Sabjhi along with the softest most succulent Peshwari Naan. Even the boiled rice was perfectly light and fluffy. Feel great afterwards too - not stuffed full of grease, just sort of alive with spices! We'll definitely order again and hope the rest of the menu is as good as our first experience. We have had food from here a few times and never had any problems. But last night, although our takeaway was delicious at the time, it caused both my husband and I severe cramping and diarrhea the following day. I expect it will continue tomorrow. My sister, who is vegetarian, was fine- it only affected the two of us who ate meat. (chicken and lamb). The food was consumed immediately after purchasing, and all leftovers were discarded. We are certain the poisoning was caused by this takeaway. As you might imagine we are extremely disappointed and will never be using this restaurant again.

My wife and I have had 2 each takeaways from here, and they were all the best curries we have ever eaten. The flavours are fantastic.

I recently emailed a large group order to the Gaangchill team, which was delivered hot, exactly on time, and of their normal superb quality and quantity.They even had the foresight to name the bags for my individual party guests, so there was no need to sort out all of the dishes - BRILLIANT!Already, we have submitted another group order, and have no doubt that it will be equally as good.Many thanks to Zawad and the team.

Used this place quite a few times now. Over all of those visits, the food has been consistently prepared, and very tasty. Staff are friendly, and deliveries to the local area are welcomed and have arrived on time no problem. Overall, I really like the food hence the reason for returning.Only small thing that could do with some work, is the online ordering system which is very hit and miss, so I avoid using that. It often fails, or leaves you wondering if the order has gone through. I have spoken to them, and they are resolving that at the moment though.Will use again......

I ordered a meal from Gaangchil last week and it was the best Indian food that I've had in a long time. The flavours, aromas and textures from each dish was of very standard, and the portions were generous - which made the prices set, value for money! I would go as far as to say that the food was of restaurant standard and that I will definitely be making this my 'local' for Indian Food!Well done Gaangchil - keep up the good work!

Dripping with oil, lacking flavour. The meat was either very overcooked or reheated from frozen. Never again.

Time and time again we have consistently good food from Gaangchil. Seems their reputation is spreading as they are very busy and hopefully the quality of food and service will not suffer as they become victims of their own success! We have tried the set menu which for £20 offers great value for money and when we have phoned for delivery at busy periods we are warned delivery could take over an hour.

We often have a takeaway curry as we enjoy both in the evening and for breakfast. Family members who have moved out are also using Gaangchil as well. Can only remember one time when the food was oily and cold but no complaints from us. Lst used last weekend in Nov 2015 was great.

Ordered online, had to use tablet as the website doesn't work on a smart phone properly. Placed comment in the comments section that says that I wanted to collect at 7:20pm, this was about 45 minutes away. I tried to call both of the phone numbers to make sure that they have got the request as it said automatically that my order will be ready in 25 minutes. I tried both phone lines and one was constantly engaged and the other just rang out. I turned up at 7:25pm to collect the order, had to wait for ages while the guy was on the phone taking another order, and then someone just walked in behind me and was then served in front of me and given his order. When I said my name the guy looked at the order and then at the clock and I said "I didn't know if you got the message about the collection time" (I could see it clearly on the bottom of the order in front of him). He just sort of smiled and ignored me. Went out the back to get the food and I paid and left. Forgetting the golden rule of - ALWAYS CHECK YOUR ORDER - Got home and one of the curry's was missing. I tried to call but had the same problem as before, couldn't get an answer! Even better, as they clearly hadn't read my message the food was ready a good 20 minutes before I asked for it to be so that the food was lukewarm at best. I have only given them 2 stars as they had a good idea of putting labels on the food cartons so that you can easily see what is what. The food that I did eat wasn't too bad, this place could be great if they just get better at actually worrying about the people paying.

Enjoyed a take away from Gaangchill this weekend. Ordered online and food arrived within 3 minutes of the time expected. Food was excellent.

We discovered Gaangchil shortly after it opened and haven't used another Indian takeaway since. Every dish we've tried has been fantastic, the ordering system is nice and easy and the delivery is usually quicker than expected.

Excellent food and service, have recommended Gaangchil to many friends and family all of whom have been extremely happy and are now repeat customers too.

First time ordering from this place on the basis of good reviews, unfortunately our delivery was 20 minutes late,which for a Saturday night is forgiveable but what is not is the food was luke warm. The food tasted good and was cooked but by the time it got to us it had lost its heat. Disappointed.

We tried this takeaway for the first time and we're glad we did. They were efficient and good value and the food was extremely tasty. We had Lamb Palak which was completely delicious, Chicken Tikka Masala which was tasty and Goanese Chicken which definitely lived up to the description 'fairly hot'!Alongside our mains we had Saag Aloo and Tadka Daal and a Peshwari naan - all lovely, and delivered hot and on time.

This is one of the best if not THE best curry! Love it! Order from here regularly and can't beat it - favourite is the Palek chicken. Will be back ;0)

Wow what a find. With literally dozens of Indian takeaways in Crawley it takes a small place in Copthorne to show them all how it's done. Ok we had to wait almost an hour (peak time Saturday eve) but absolutely worth it. Every dish was fresh restaurant quality. Unlike the Crawley efforts (mainly out of a jar I suspect, sometimes) this was absolutely delicious. Prices less than expected. You really have to try this place and you will never order from Crawley again.

Saw the good reviews and thought we'd try a takeaway. The Madras was like soup, very salty and not particularly (spicy) hot, naan bread was a little cold and soggy, and the poppadums were very greasy and had a strange taste/texture. Perhaps we chose a bad night but certainly won't be coming back. That said, the service was fine as was the rice.

We were very impressed with the quality of the ingredients (especially meat). The menu is pretty extensive with a lot of dishes we hadn't come across before.All the food we had was beautifully cooked and we really enjoyed it all. We are already looking forward to our next meal!They do a good offer on a meal for two from Mon-Wed and even give you a loyalty card!

Had a nice take away from here. Naan bread was a little cold but the food was pretty good. The korma was full of flavour and the biryiani moist and meat tender. Will be getting some more take away from here.

It was my boyfriends birthday, decided to order a curry, living in pease pottage not many people deliver. Once I had given my order the person working there said I need to check with the manager. He did say this would be to far to deliver to, but he would on this occassion. Im so glad they did, it was the best take away we have had. It was still hot and tasted amazing, its just ashame we live to far to have it delivered

Friday night take away for 6 - food was excellent as was the service. They said 30 mins and it was 30 mins - all dishes as expected and they gave us some extra sauce too! Recommended.

We collected our first Takeaway from Gaangchil yesterday evening, and it certainly will not be our last. Having tried many other local establishments with much disappointment our expectations were by far exceeded. All of the dishes were piping hot and very flavoursome. 5*****s

Was looking forward to trying this takeaway after reading the reviews. Food was delivered quickly which was great. On opening the containers found the starters - mixed starter was cold. The main course dishes goanese chicken and prawn patia were very oily. The mushroom rice was stodgy and overall the meal was below a reasonable standard. Very disappointed after spending out £30 for this food

This is our second review if anything it is even better the food quality and flavour is superb as is the service always delivered quickly and hot.I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough.Keep it up guys.Jim

Ive tried several take away curry houses from turners hill, crawley and east grinstead but this one is by far the best. it was delivered promptly and was very hot (as it is so near to crawley down). A good menu and really tasty. I will go as far to say this is my new local indian take away. I look forward to ordering again. At last a take away that doesnt have to travel miles to get to me.

First time ordering from Gangchil and I have to say I am very impressed. Food delivered within 30 minutes of ordering online. Food was excellent, by far the best takeaway around from my point of view. Will definitely order again.

This small outlet produces great curries that taste of fresh spices and not the standard stock of pre made sauces most curry houses seem to use. I guess Gaangchil also use sauces to produce the food as quick as they do but I can only think that the ingredients are freshly ground and properly cooked.
