On a dog walk my friend and I decided to stop for a drink. I was impressed that there were plant based milks available. My dog was happy as he had a sausage. My hot chocolate (with oat milk) was nice and I enjoyed the view. The place is ideal if you’re near the beach and want to sit with a cuppa.

Stopped for coffee and a bite to eat for 3 of us,Sausages cold and greasy, scrambled eggs hard and tasteless,,sausages sandwich cold ,we will be going to Salt House in future little more in price however it’s far superior service and quality of there products, Funky Beach Cafe till receipts is a joke, they have to put fruit shouts on instead of sausages or eggs because they don’t have buttons on the till for extras Staff always grumpy

Stopped for a coffee and a sandwich. Ordered 2 bacon and egg sandwiches and 2 coffees. My bread cake was mouldy, green around the edge. I returned it and showed it to the lady on the counter, she looked and said she was shocked as there where today's break cakes. I asked for a full refund, because my husband couldn't face eating his once he had seen mine . The Cashier was reluctant to give a full refund even though both sandwiches had been returned. I was expecting a full refund for coffees aswell, kind of a good will statement I was given £9 back for both sandwiches although this was reluctantly . I then realised the 2 coffees must have been £8 because the bill came to £17 . Total ripoff, disgusting attitudes ,and a clear disregard for food hygiene. Avoid like the plague,

Visited this weekend with family. Ordered a cheese and ham toastie and a kids hot dog meal. He really enjoyed his but the toastie was dire. Charging £4.95 for what appeared to be half a slice of ham and minimal cheese is criminal! I would have complained but that staff that work here aren’t exactly what I would call approachable.

Bought 2 bottles of Fanta to take away and was charged £4.60, absolute rip off. Usually go in here for hot drinks at the weekend and they have also gone up in price by quite a lot which isn't great especially as they are served in takeaway cardboard cups even if you are sitting inside.

Very quick service at the cafe this morning, deliciously full crispy bacon roll. Stayed at the Grand Hotel for the weekend whilst visiting family, had breakfast there yesterday at £10.50 per head, absolutely atrocious!! So after a walk on the beach we decided to try the cafe. very pleasant staff, good service.

After a long walk on the beach I stopped here for breakfast. Bacon roll was huge, very fresh and packed with bacon, delicious. The tea was a bit too milky for my liking unfortunately, but overlooking the beach with such a great view I could forgive that.

Eating inside but only allowed naff paper cups and wooden cutlery because apparently they can’t “sterilise” cups and saucers. Clearly Covid isn’t killed by using fairy liquid in this cafe. Food was bland - sweating in polystyrene boxes. Absolutely dire. Would have felt a better experience taking it back to my car. Read the reviews people - don’t spend your money here.

We decided to stop off here for a coffee yesterday in the sunshine outside with a dog in tow. We sat outside at a table needing a good clean and crumbs around the chair and table legs. The dog bowl of water was well used and lots of bits in it. OK so is it for a dog but it could be washed out occasionally. The coffee came and we were not sure what it was as it had so little flavour. Will not go again even though the views are good.

My daughter and I were walking along the sea front and decided to call into Funky Beach for a quick ice cream. My daughter got a bubblegum ice cream, it was two scoops for £3 which I thought was quite reasonable. I even managed to pinch a taste and it was very nice. Nice and cheerful staff, great views of the beach, very happy.

Called in today for the first time, was greeted by a lovely friendly lady who helped us to the table as I had my elderly mother with me. The service was great and fast. Nothing was a trouble for the lady that served us, she even got us a blanket to keep my mother warm. Had a lovely cake and a coffee. The girls were all hardworking and extremely helpful. Will definitely be back soon.

Went today for for a refreshing drink with friends and family... the reports on this establishment have been a mixed bag.. never the less after-my friends waited an eternity to be served we then ventured inside to order ourselves, as we had been watching our dogs... we waited patiently in line in a que whilst 6 staff behind the counter mostly dragged there heels.. the girl serving coffe continued to pick scabs from an open wound on her arm and I wish at that point we had left.. however when asked for order a clearly intoxicated man behind us jumped the que and tried to order ahead of us... to cut along story short we where polite in requesting to be served next but where refused and asked to leave... an exchange of abuse from the drunk man ensued and he was served another alcoholic drink so we all left the establishment... food and coffee tasted by friends when asked said very average..never again,... appalling service and considering a complaint to the liquor license board and police.. seems if your not a regular you are second class

so we thought we would pop in for a cuppa and a sandwich, and just give the place a try, no preconceptions, yes i know its not the best of locations and its all dog walkers, so a bit over powering with dogs everywhere,,, really need to consider seperating the dog walkers from those without dogswe walk into the main indoor area to see a sign stating "Table Service" ,o nice we can just sit at the table and order, so we sit and wait, and wait, 10 minutes pass with a few members of staff going in and out, eventually we catch one of there attention, she comes over and ask for a couple of cups of tea and ask what sandwich's they have, to be told we need to go inside to order, i question this and tell her there is a sign inside saying table service, to get an attitude back saying you have to order inside and they will bring it out, again i explain table service means they come to the table to take an order and say it does not matter im leaving anyway and to this i am told again its order inside and get bought out to you and get offered a nice "goodbye then"or words to that effectterrible customer service to be honestlearn what table service means, its not like im going to order a drink and food and stand at the till till its cookedplease separate dog walkers from non dog walkers as i did not really want to sit with a dog sniffing around megoogle definition of table serviceTable service is food ordered by the customer at the table and served to the customer's table by waiters and waitresses, also known as "servers". Table service is common in most restaurants.

We visited for lunch after a long walk in the beach..... Such an ideal location, could be a gold mind with a few easy changes. We arrived at 12:10 and had to wait 20 til lunch service, no bug deal we ordered drinks. A fizzy water, half a lager, 2 juice and a coffee.....over priced at £12 I thought but maybe I've been spoiled elsewhere. The coffee arrived and I honest thought she'd brought me hot milk...... It is 100% the worst coffee I've had, I let them know this but no offer of extra shot or anything. We then ordered food, meatball pannini, beef sandwich and skinny fries for the kids.Food was surprisingly good, we didn't expect much because of the decor, service and faces of other patrons but we enjoyed ours.Being, literally, on the doorstep of the beach this place could be an absolute gem......a bit if tlc with the decor which is confused, cheap and not good and some customer service training for the staff. Plus, learn how to make coffee!!!!!I hope this place does well as such a great location but without changes, I don't know how it will.

Stop by most days im out walking the dogs with my wife. Im not a coffee drinker so i normally settle for a coke, and a nice sarnie or snack. Great place to sit outside with many other dog walkers and watch the world go by. Early morning is best while the sun is rising as the external area faces East.

We have been stopping here for coffee when walking along the promenade since it opened. The staff have never been the most friendly. I have to agree with previous posts that there is no warm welcome or hint of a smile. We use it because it's on the beach front - fabulous view. There are now another couple of cafe's along the same walk. One is about to open and one already open and is much more welcoming! My son and his girlfriend called in this morning for breakfast at around 8.40am. The door was open but they were abruptly told by a blonde haired woman (manager?) that the café was closed and they couldn't wait inside. It was pouring with rain and blowing a gale! They crossed the road to The Salt House Kitchen where they received a warmer welcome and nice breakfast! I've also noticed a fall in the standard of cleanliness. The toilets aren't particularly clean even early in the morning. The sinks look dirty and need repairing. Won't be back to Funky Beach and won't recommend. Shame, it should be fab.

Strolling along Seaburn promenade we found Funky Beach, overlooking the beach. Staff were pleasant, perhaps they've read previous reviews. The Funky Dog was great value (pictured), a large hot dog with pulled pork, guacamole and sour cream. The burger served in deep wooden tray looked good but the burger quality gave way to the bargain price of £6.95 inc chips. The tray was perhaps a little too deep making picking the burger out slightly awkward. Overall good value for money.

I frequently visit funky beach and have never been disappointed however today a group of us being 2 adults and 3 children ordered a cooked breakfast and 4 bacon sandwiches 2 hot drinks and 3 milkshakes the drinks where brought to our table pretty quick which was good however the food wait was lengthy (15 mins) which at first we where not bothered about we know the food is always freshly cooked to order. The breakfast and 2 of the bacon sandwiches was served the waitress asked if we needed anything else so we said we waiting for 2 more bacon sandwiches she went away and it was obvious they had forgot fair enough human error we waited another 10 mins my main gripe is it would of been nice to get a apology for the delay

We stopped off for a pannini on a clear, crisp cold winter's day. All the outside seats were taken by dog walkers with one or two smaller well behaved doggies inside. Staff were pleasant, quick with orders, although the sandwiches did take some time to arrive, but could see staff going back/forth with drinks the whole time, so certainly not slacking!

I was quite surprised to read some poor reviews for Funky Beach. I have been several times and probably been lucky. I have had the Vegetarian Full English Breakfast a couple of times and this has been fantastic. Must be eaten outdoors, looking at the sea view , with a greedy dog sitting at your feet. My husband sometimes goes to hide in the cafe whilst pretending to work, and he really likes it. On Boxing Day, our son was participating in the Dip, so we called in for a warm and bacon butties with the in-laws who were staying with us. The butties were really good. I had a fruit scone which looked nice but set my teeth on edge as it was coated in so much sugar. This must have been the busiest day of the year for the Funky Beach as there were hundreds of people at the sea front and a huge queue right out of the door! All the hot drinks were being served in take away cups which was brilliant as we were heading off to watch the Dip. The staff were very well organised and there was a great atmosphere in there. To all the grumblers..... give Funky Beach another go.

Having visited before, we were looking forward to returning for a bite to eat and a drink. However, we were very disappointed. We chose what we wanted and went inside to order. I checked the receipt in order to give my share of the cost to find the prices seemed wrong. We went inside to check and were told a toasted teacake 'has never been £1.75,' despite it being priced as this on the menu. So, we had been charged £2 for that. Orange juice was £1.50 on the menu but we'd been charged £2.50 because they 'didn't have any of the £1.50 orange juice left,' even though there was only one orange juice and one price on the menu. I don't know why they didn't tell us this when we ordered, it wouldn't have been a problem. After this, we decided to change one of the juices to a tea which we never received. We got our food, enquired about the tea, were told it was on another order and would be coming separately but this never happened. After seeing the people next to us go in, order and then receive their hot drinks, we decided to go back inside and ask for the money for the tea back. We were given it without a word from the young girl on the till. Really terrible service which could have been easily rectified if they had just explained themselves from the outset or, even better, get the menu reprinted.

Called into the funky beach today for lunch. Sat at a table and asked the older waitress if she could clean it before our food arrived. You would think I'd asked for half of her wages by the look on her face. She then wiped the crumbs in front of me into my lap but didn't clean anywhere else on the table. When our order came things were no better, the panini's had very little filling, lots of the frozen chips were not cooked and the buns holding the burgers were so dry they dropped to pieces. Didn't try the ice-cream as this section was manned by a child who was eating it at the same time. The staff here are either really unhappy or have no training at all or both. This is one place I will not be returning to in a hurry

I was then told to take him out !!!!! I can’t believe that in this day and age people or still have so much ignorance and understanding of autism my child who is now 24 was treated the same all then years ago I am so upset and angry by the whole situation
