I really really tried liking it but honestly a lot let me down starting with the service. The receptionist seemed like she was having a bad day, I wasn’t greeted, she wasn’t even happy to be there. When I initially booked, I left a note saying it’s my anniversary and I would want a nice table. I was given the worst table in there, in a corner, by the till and cleaning products. The whole resteraunt was empty I could have been seated anywhere! The man who served us also wasn’t as friendly, he didn’t do anything wrong. He just had no enthusiasm or happiness. Almost like WE wasn’t wanted there. However, there were 2 waiters who were amazing. I wish I got their names, but they were super friendly. One was skinny and tall and the other was slightly shorter with a healthy build. I’ve been to Italian resteraunts before but the food at san carlo Fumo was a bit disappointing, the penne pasta was just a can of tomatoes used for their sauce, sprinkled with cheese. No flavour, just the tanginess of raw tomatoes.

Beautiful place, just don’t understand how such expensive food lacks the flavours and taste compared to other places serving similar food. I ordered garlic Margarita, chicken steak with broccoli and mushrooms and wife ordered a pasta dish, it was very mediocre and overpriced, I am more than happy to pay for food That costs a lot if it leaves me feeling wow.

The best Italian food I’ve ever had (even better than Boston's north end). But the food wasn’t even the best part, the service was❤️ we were laughing and having fun before the wine was even ordered. Giovanni was our server and he was so awesome. Literally it was a dinner and a show with all of those guys! If you are visiting Manchester, I highly suggest visiting them! You can thank me later😁

My dad and I had dinner here at the end of May and we were very impressed. Eduardo offered an excellent service, he was very kind, very attentive and he provided really great recommendations. So me and my husband went here and we asked if everything is halal as to which they said yes after asking multiple times, when we asked for our dishes, two of mine were not actually halal one had alcohol and one served pork and had me questioning if this place even is halal? and as Muslims we should not eat here if serving pork but we did ask if everything keyword everything is halal. So this made me very uneasy as to why they said everything they should of said no not everything… but on the plus side they was very honest what was in their dishes without even having to ask, which i respect and was happy about. But if you are a muslim there is better food out there and better options, as you don’t know if cross contamination is happening in the kitchen with non halal meat, pork or alcohol, And if the Manager sees this, do you have a HMC certificate for halal food? And the food isn’t all that. But overall nice staff and nice clean place.

As always I had a great dinner at Fumo restaurant. Once again the manager Pietro was very kind and he made my birthday celebration really special and unique. The entire staff lead by Pietro is amazing. Last time I have been in, Giovanni was assigned to my table and he was very kind and friendly. Strongly recommend, a true Italian experience in Manchester city centre.

Myself , my 2 daughters and 2 granddaughters had a very good meal at Fumo last night. The staff were attentive and made us feel very welcome, especially the 2 waitresses and Ciprian. He definitely made our first visit very special. As I told him I was apprehensive as had read poor reviews of the attitude of some staff. Definitely will go again .

Me and my daughter ate here before a show. Starter came out really quick. It was cold and aioli was missing. The main was the mixed fish and it was like warm and no taste at all. Don’t chefs know how to season. Nothing on it it was bland. The staff were running around like headless chicken. Best thing about it was the wine I chose. Wouldn’t eat there again

Really poor experience tonight. We were told there would be a wait for a table (which was absolutely fine and we agreed). We sat, ordered, starters took a while to come out but not too bad. Then we waited 1.5 hours between starter and mains. It was only when we asked how long it would be, that it came out 5 mins later, no apology. Food was nice (not worth the wait) but a dish was missing. When we ordered the dish for the 2nd time, it still didn't come. The service was really poor, waited ages to order another drink, really frowny staff who seemed inconvenienced every time you asked for something e.g. A steak knife for a steak, a drink. No check back for food, asking us how anything was etc. We spent a lot of money and weren't happy so complained (politely) . We were told by the server that it wasn't her fault and that everybody was complaining about the wait. She said 'in my opinion, it's bad management'. No apology. She said she'd take the service charge off but I don't feel this is adequate given it's optional. When speaking to the manager, he said he had warned us about the wait. We emphasised that we were told about wait for a table, and even a wait for food would surely mean less than 1.5 hours? He eventually apologised and knocked 10% off which we were grateful for. However, still a poor experience and wouldn't recommend. It was busy but they had 4 staff on the floor and still could have forced a bit more friendliness in place of the scowls.

10/10 food and service, but above all front of house and the staff are exceptional!! We first tried to dine at another Italian across the road and were treated so poorly. We crossed over to Fumo (without a reservation at 4pm post Manchester Half) and were not expecting such a warm, lovely and KIND welcome. The older gentlemen at the front of house took my suitcase, laughed and joked with us and seated us at such a beautiful table. We were all SO thrilled. The food was delicious 10/10 for everything - I had the lobster ravioli - would recommend, and the tiramisu doesn’t have alcohol and is DELICIOUS. Even if the food was awful (which it was NOT) I would come back based on hospitality alone. You guys nailed it, Grazie Millie! 🫶🏼🍝

Attended a private investment dinner hear, moved from San Carlo due to a flood. Before we sat down we stood around for 10 minutes before someone turned up to take drink orders, despite there being a bar in the room. When the first course arrived it contained sections of Avocado. These were old, brown and actually rotten in the centre and inedible. The rest was bland and tasteless. The main was some sort of flattend chicken covered in a tomato sauce, just that on the plate. The presentation was paused for us to eat, but many were asking if there was anything else. Nothing arrived so we all began, and the gentleman next to me had finished his meal when bowls of a simple salad arrived. I laughed and said " they will probably bring out chips when we have all finished". In fact the potatoes did arrive at the end of the meal! One of the organisers ( one of the biggest insurers in the UK) told me they had paid a fortune to hold the event at San Carlo. They were furious and after a working life of these events I can honestly say it was the worst venue I have ever experienced.I have not rated atmosphere as we were in a private room, but not a good business plan to treat a major company and a room of business people in this way.

Fumo was a great choice for our group of more than 65 people. The asked us to make our dining covers in advance which was a good idea. often for big groups the service is lacking, but Fumo did a great job of staffing our event. We had a private dining area on the second floor that was beautiful but we did not feel isolated.

To begin, once we sat down we were immediately rushed to order drink and food. Staff made it apparent they were eager to get us out asap. Food came suspiciously quickly, with the pasta seeming undercooked, or potentially microwaved?( considering the price, not expected) The main waiter was not only rushing us, but was unfriendly and impolite, barely speaking to us when ordering, coming across judgy. The overall experience was uncomfortable, and found being a younger couple, we were treated differently to those around us (older and clearly spending a lot more). We don’t recommend, and won’t be coming again .

Fabulous Italian restaurant within walking distance from Deansgate train station. We had a company event for circa 36 colleagues and were catered for on their upper floor, which we had to ourselves. They provided place names and our pre selected menu choices on all tables... it's the little things that matter. 😉😊👍

Webt for dinner for a friend's birthday, service was absolutely tremendous. Our waiter was brilliant, though I can't remember his name. The mixed grill meal was not up to par however for one of the group members; very small portion, not very diverse and was costing a fortune for nothing; it was around £30. Other meals were well prepared and flavouful throughout, from starter to main, every bite was glorious! Otherwise would recommend visiting.

Beautiful food and lovely staff, we came in just before the kitchens had closed due to being at an event at the AO Arena on a Friday evening and they were so accommodating, and the food was as gorgeous as ever. Fresh homemade pasta for the Ravioli Aragosta and dough for the calzone. Huge langoustines for the Fritto Misto. Disappointed to see the bad reviews on here, these guys don’t deserve it, if you’re going to come here , order true Italian - you won’t be disappointed! Thank you so much.

We came here tonight for my daughter’s 15th birthday she loves pasta and lasagne so thought this would be perfect. Our booking was for 6pm perfect as we had a fun activity booked at 8pm. we was a bit early 5.50 and was asked if we wanted to sit at the bar or sit down. We sat down at our table 6.15 we had to go to the bar to ask for our own water for the table, 6.20 a waiter came over and asked if we wanted menus I said No we have already been waiting to order for 30 mins. He took 2 wine glasses of the table and then we was left again for a further 10 minutes with no drink order or food order. All in all we waited 40 mins for any acknowledgment and that was only when we got up to leave. Lovely atmosphere but didn’t get to enjoy it. Ended up at Archie’s better customer service and amazing food.

Seems like a really nice restaurant but unfortunately didn’t get to try the food. We took our daughter and her friend here for my daughter’s birthday. We sat for 40 minutes and nobody even came to offer us any water or drinks. We asked for tap water at the bar and hung around for service but unfortunately we had plans at 8 after arriving at 6 so after waiting 40 minutes to be offered drinks we found it unlikely that we would have fit 3 courses in in the time we had left. It’s a shame as we were all really looking forward to the food.

We were shocked by the bad service which just seemed to get worse as the meal went on. Even trying to pay seemed like a burden to them and trying to talk to anyone working there was an impossible task, not because they were busy because they didn’t care to listen. A simple question like asking for dessert menus (after waiting 30 minutes for one) they ignored us to our face and turned around unbothered. It’s such a shame because the food was nice but to have such rude and unfriendly service was a waste of our time and money. I wish we’d gone somewhere else that appreciated their customers and I’d definitely avoid San Carlo in the future if they treat their customers with such little respect.

Went for a special meal with family, the waiters were very poor with us, couldn’t get drinks ordered and when food came just shoved it on the table not asking us who’s dish was for who. Kept trying to rush us out even though we had only been there for an hour and just put the bill on the table 1 hour 15 minutes into a meal for 4 of us. Not the service you expect for a meal totalling £300. Wouldn’t recommend

We booked for 10.30pm after the theatre. We were very disappointed. Four of us had pasta dishes which consisted mainly of tinned tomatoes. There was hardly any flavour to any of the dishes. I had pizza which was supposed to be spicy but wasn’t and I had to pull it apart because I couldn’t cut it. We were told we couldn’t have dessert because the kitchen was now closed. We did say why did you take our booking then? I think the waiter wanted us to stay and help with the washing up because he offered us a glass of Lemoncello instead, which I think he had mixed up with a bottle of Fairy Liquid. I went to the toilet and reported back that the upstairs dj area was more like a Youth Club so we left. I will be fair though and say I have been for lunch in the past which was a different experience and the Tiramisu was excellent. I think that Fumo shouldn’t take late bookings if they can’t provide the usually good food and service.

Told to wait at the bar but the barman would not serve us as it was too much fuss to transfer the tab he explained after 20mins. Then he reluctantly served us and overcharged. Staff generally disinterested and rude. Experience much better once finally seated but will definitely not return.

First of all , it’s a shame I gave a 3 star , because the food was very good and we had a reasonable break between courses. The problem was service , orders for drinks were taken , but sadly the younger members of staff seem to like mucking around the bar area , more than serving us our drinks . At the end of our meal , we ordered a vodka martini , there seemed to be some confusion for the barman ? Maybe this was because he was more interested in two girls sitting at the bar than actually making the cocktails ? The resulting cocktails were disappointing, and looked like half measures ! We will not be returning .

We had an early dinner (c.1800) on a Saturday evening. The restaurant was very busy. Tables are too close together for comfort and it was rather noisy. My pizza was pretty poor. A very thin layer of topping that failed to reach anywhere near the sides of the base leaving a dry crust about an inch wide all the way around. It was thrid-rate food at city centre prices. Not recommended.

What a disappointment- food was average, staff too busy smiling and dancing around each other to stop bumping into our chairs as they past by our table. Not great value for money - one slice of sourdough bread with 10 cherry tomatoes and very under seasoned for £7.95 then a pasta dish for £15.95 that was so small I asked if they had mixed it up and given me a starter by mistake. To end the evening the bill comes with service included and to remove it you have to speak to the staff in front of your table guests - at least Dick Turpin wore a mask!! When you pay be card they also give you the option to tip, another way Fumo fleece you.

Restaurant is vibrant with a good atmosphere. However, service was terrible - we waited around an hour for food. When it eventually arrived it was nothing special, very average. Bruscetta was bland, pasta main dishes were quite good but not worth the long wait. The wine was awful and not worth the almost £40. It was undrinkable. Place was very busy and the staff seemed rushed off their feet. We didn't have dedicated waiting staff for our table and just had to wave over to random staff for water, condiments etc. Very disappointing for a Saturday family meal out 😔

I never typically leave reviews but would hope this helps people from booking for a special event here. We booked for our 5 year anniversary dinner for a nice celebration. Food was amazing, however i got served the wrong main course, I had ordered a vegetarian pasta and got served some sort of beef pasta dish. After our mains we had asked to view the dessert menu, but after waiting over 40 minutes to receive it (and no members of staff walked in our direction for us to remind them) we had to leave due to having another reservation elsewhere. Overall food was great but service was very poor and we are slightly disappointed we chose to spend our special day here. I understand mistakes can be made but normally we are used to restaurants apologising profusely/ removing service charge or even comping some items off the menu. Instead we were left with a full bill including a £5 charge for water when we asked for tap water.

Very disappointed with our experience. We'd booked our table for 18:00, to allow us time to enjoy a nice dinner before attending a concert at the Bridgewater Hall. When we first arrived we were told that our table would be ready soon, and to sit at the bar until it was ready. Despite being sat at the bar for 15 mins, and there being multiple staff working behind the bar and no other customers sat there, we were not offered a drink. After 15 mins of waiting to be served I had to walk up to the till to ask to get a drink. We were then quickly provided with drinks, however I felt they were slightly over-priced for what they were. Whilst waiting I observed multiple customers getting fed with having to wait for service at their tables, and some people took the initiative to walk to the front desk to pick up their own menus as the staff were not providing them. After 30 mins being sat the bar, we had still not been seated or received any apology for the delay, despite there being a couple of clean, empty tables available. At this point I went up to ask the staff when we were likely to have a table, explaining that we had made this dinner reservation ahead of attending a concert so we were rapidly running out of time. The man I spoke to (who appeared to be the head waiter) was not able to confirm when we could have a table and was rude and defensive. At this point we decided to leave. Overall a really disappointing experience, and from reading the reviews on here it appears that our experience was not a one off, and that other customers have received similar treatment. The restaurant could do with employing a few more staff to ensure they have enough resource to manage the bookings they take, and all existing staff could do with some serious customer service training as none of the staff we interacted with seemed to have an understanding of what good customer service looked like. When you're paying a premium price for food and drink, you expect good service.

Ahead of itself with the prices The prices didn’t match the blandness of the mains, I would strongly assume that chef microwavai was used for the mains and the starters and sides were more freshly made. I would have had a plate of one of the sides over all 5 mains in our party, from Duck, to gnocchi, to chicken to lasagne. Comments from our party were underflavoured under seasoned, and dry. One of the meals was £23 for an average portion of chicken of breast which was dry in a smidge of white wine sauce. Service was rushed and staff didn’t seem to have time for us on several occasions. I’ve had better food from ready meals and the average pub grub equivalent. Side note my dish, the gnocchi, was normal off the shelf gnocchi with a splatter of congealed dolmio sauce with some cheese on top, small dish, luke warm.

I was a little nervous coming in here because of the reviews, but we were pleasantly surprised! It took a while for us to be shown to our table, but once we were in everything was great. The service was relatively quick and friendly, didn't find the tables to be too close to each other either, the food was gorgeous and the prices weren't too bad!

Never left a bad review for a restaurant but thought I should as it might save someone from wasting their money here. Before I even got into the door I was rudely asked by who I assume was a bouncer if I had a booking, which I did. I was greeted very coldly, left at the bar where 3 bar tenders walked past me several times before one asked me if I’d like a drink. No interaction, smile. Was brought to my table, the food was nice, nothing special. Came relatively quick which was good. Got up to go to the toilet mid meal which I was asked where I was going by a waiter which I thought was weird. I asked for some water, which never came. Asked again and finally got some. When asking for the bill I asked the same guy 3 times for the bill to which he went off and never came back. My Uber was waiting outside so I asked another member of staff if I could pay. He never came back. Then the first guy I spoke to walked past I asked for the machine which he began to bring over but then started to join in singing happy birthday to someone and afterwards walked off. I then flagged him down asked him, he brought it over and I finally paid. I was 10 minutes late for my Uber because of this. No thank you when I left. Dining out is all about the atmosphere, friendly staff and good food. Don’t go here if that’s what you want, cause you won’t get it. Terrible customer service.

We went out for a works do with pre ordered 3 course dinner. There was 20 of us and the bill came to over £1,400. The 3 course set was just under £50 per person. The first course came 1 hour after being seated. Whilst the starter (mushroom soup with truffle oil) was decent, I would have expected it to be accompanied with bread and butter. The fish for main also did not come with any vegetables whilst the steak did. Most annoyingly, I ordered a glass of Pinot Grigio which after 1 hour and multiple reminders never came. I upgraded to a bottle and after another 25 minutes still did not arrive. I had to talk to the male manager who did sort it out in less than a few minutes but the 3 female servers were useless despite being given multiple reminders and chances to redeem themselves. Overall an extremely disappointing experience which my colleagues are remembering for by taking the mickey out of me for how long it took for me to get a drink. Not recommended.

Fumo has a great location in a busy street in town and is set back from the busy Oxford Road intersection. A nice entrance gives a great view of the bar which spans the rear of the restaurant with impressive mirror backing and lighting that shows off the high end spirits and the signature oversized bottles too. Beautiful marble decor with soft wooden accents and stunning lampshades resembling jelly fish give a nice atmosphere. Service is good and you can tell the wait staff try hard. The food is as you expect, we ate 2 courses which came to £30 per person including. Service Our order: Bruschetta Beetroot carpaccio Garlic bread starter Main dishes: Penne Arabiatta Calzone Tagliatelle, Ragu Everything was hot, tasted great and we had a bunch of empty plates. We ate at 6:30 on a Sunday when it was fairly quiet due to heavy rain.

Went with a big group of almost 30. We got the whole upstairs to ourselves. We pre ordered our food and they had put down name cards with what we have selected so everyone knew where they were sitting and what food we were getting. They were even flexible enough to add 3 late comers. The food was all tasty and well cooked.

Awful service, we booked and paid a deposit weeks in advance and then they sat us near the door where the draft from outside was so so cold, when we asked to sit somewhere else the lady was so rude and told us that this was the only table, we opted to wait at the bar she said it could be up to 30 mins which was fine, we hadn’t even sat down when another miserable waitress came over and told us a table was available, so the new table must have been available all along. The staff were rude, uninterested and frankly just didn’t want to be there. We weren’t asked if everything was ok, we weren’t asked if we wanted any more drinks. Overall awful service which ruined a lovely Christmas family outing.

Always a delight to eat at Fumo. I had the most wonderful Truffle Ravioli, it was exceptional. We shared the sharing dessert, ample portions of 5 sweets each, we needed a takeaway😅. A glass of delicious white wine complemented our mains. Highly recommend FUMO.

If I had of read these reviews I never would have went. However, to be fair, my wife and I had a fantastic meal. The Pino Grigio was fantastic, but the icing on the cake was the roasted seafood which was unbelievably good. Yes, a bit tight regarding closeness of tables but overall brilliant.

We then ordered our dinner, the rest of my friend’s main courses arrived I then had to wait a further 20 mins for mines. Our waiter was lovely but clearly rushed off his feet and from what I could see the place was under staffed. When our main meals eventually arrived the food was really nice which is such a shame the service totally let it down. Our desserts were average and once they came again not until 9.50pm we had to cancel our last round of drinks due to having a booking else where shortly after. So dessert was very rushed. The bill was £245 for 4 main courses 4 desserts and 2 rounds of drinks one which was made at the bar whilst waiting 40 mins. I wouldn’t come back if I’m honest, we were on a girls trip and just felt the service was a let down the restaurant was packed and clearly under staffed which is a shame for workers.

1st time here and won't be returning. Very small almost sat on top of other tables. Food was ok. The toilets where dirty, ladies toilet paper all over the floors. The mens someone had been sick all over the urinals walls, a white powder all over the sinks reported this to staff and nothing was done, no one that worked there went to clean the toilets, we over heard another customer telling staff and again no one went to clean it up. When it came to paying the bill we asked for the service charge to be removed as we felt it wasn't deserved, and talk about rude reaction!!

The service was good although food delivery slow, starter was nice , Italian breads and taprnade , main for me was cod with a olive crust and cooked lovely and tasted good with a side of brocoli with garlic and chilli and baby sautéed potatoes although the cod was cold. Waiter yook it away and no more left so decided on the mixed fish plate. Arrived hot but by now my sides were cold and had not been replaced, decided not to say anything as waited a further 20 mins for this . Fish I can only think was frozen not fresh as the tuna was overcooked and tough, the prawns were bitter but the scollop was cooked although lacking in some colour and butter and the sea bass was flaky. It's not the chefs fault as frozen fish isn't easy to cook with . All in all nice atmosphere but disappointed in the food. A bit expensive for what I got. My partner had the supreme of chicken with the same sides and enjoyed this.

We had heard about this restaurant through friends so booked in for dinner during our weekend away. When we arrived it took 40 minutes to be seated at our table, understandably it was a Saturday night however when you book for a specific time you expect that’s when you’ll be seated. The restaurant itself was very crowded and tables had very little space between them, it felt like you were almost on top of the people next to you. When we ordered our food our starters were very quick to come and our waitress whose name I didn’t catch was absolutely lovely. A different server brought out our main courses and because of the lack of space between tables, our bottle of water was accidentally knocked over and smashed by the waiter over our table and floor under us. Of course these things happen and obviously was a complete mistake. Some of the glass was swept up but the majority of it was left. Some also landed in both of our shoes as we were wearing heels. When I started eating my steak I noticed glass in the food, our original waitress came over and was extremely apologetic. Both our mains got taken away but our water never got replaced until prompted which we then got tap water rather than a bottle. The meals were replaced but by this point neither of us were hungry anymore. The mains were comped along with one starter, however we still paid for the smashed water. If it hadn’t have been for our waitress our dinner would have been completely ruined. Most of the staff were apologetic which we really appreciate and I could see how stressed they all were at how busy it was. Hopefully it was just a bad night and not reoccurring : ) The food was really tasty. We definitely won’t be back due to feeling like we wasted an evening & money but appreciate that these things happen.

We were not seated until the rest of our group arrived despite explaining to staff they will be arriving any time soon and that we had a reservation. Service was very disorganised and once the food arrived it was cold. The steak was unbearable to eat as it was so rubbery to the point it would not break down. By the time another was brought out, the rest of the group had eaten and they had not given the peppercorn sauce which I also had to wait for further. By this point I was very disappointed and no longer in the spirit to eat. Out of compensation the manager removed the service charge and cost of the steak, but will not be returning.

Run. The staff at the front desk was really impatient and left us before I finished my sentence. When I took a seat by the bar and I tried to ask if I can take an empty table, for no reason he left us again?? I wasn’t even trying to argue for a table I’d just like to know how does the walk-in scheme work… I’m not complaining about not getting a table, I’m just saying this is absolutely NOT how you respect your customers. I’ve been to many San Carlos in Manchester and London and have spent thousands pounds there. Promise this one is the worst.
