Friary Leicester in Leicester

This place is dead Nowadays, Even the early morning night shifters don't come here as they open after 10am and in the evenings if its anywhere near 7pm don't go there because they'll tell you to drink up at 8pm. Not welcoming at all, Very regimentally ran. The overheads must be massive, Can't see why they don't push to better the standard/ methods to pull the drinkers in. Wetherspoons was king until they Stopped selling San Miguel. Very rarely see any youngsters in there, Just the last of the old drinkers.

It was great to see the Friary getting busy again, a great atmosphere and a 5* service from CJ, he was attentive and friendly, I would definitely recommend!

Used to like this pub until they put TV screens everywhere you cannot get away from them a screen at nearly every table and you can't switch them off so really distracting so no longer use the pub

GONE DOWNHILL FOR A WHILE, ONLY NIPPED IN FOR 1 PINT....

Gone really downhill in the last year. No working kitchen now, toilets are absolutely filthy and even half the lights in the bogs don't work now. Shame, used to be a top place.

Typical 'old man's' pub vibe here with some dubious looking characters. Staff were nice and friendly but food needs to improve. The portions seemed small for a 'sharing' platter and the Katsu dish was not great in flavour or presentation. It's a large pub with TV screens for sports etc I might add.

Most of the glasses still have lipstick on them 🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢 two times in a row now thought I’d let them off last time.

Went with friends on a Wednesday for a chat and ended up playing the interactive quiz. Good evening. Would go again. Reasonable prices

Bar staff and service was excellent but whoever cooked the food last Sunday afternoon wants to go back to catering college it was below standards burger was over cooked and the Tikka masala had hardly any chicken in it also nan bread was like a brick .will not be recommend to friends and family this time sorry.

Pub was very busy, food was awful, I had Tikka Masala and it was all watery, complete waste of money. It can't be the same management as the food was always nice here, very disappointed.

My Grandson needed medical attention Saturday evening following Citys title celebrations. A great big thank you to the staff who helped. Can't praise them enough. Very caring, professional, medically trained and calming in a stressful situation. I don't know you by name but would like to send a huge 'thank you' to you and I hope this gets relayed to you. Also a big thank you to the St John's guys who attended. To think these guys give their time up for free. Wonderful people everyone. Thank you to all who helped. Grandson is fine now.

Decent chain pub in a beautiful building located close to the city. Often pop-in as it's one of the quieter city centre pubs in terms of patronage meaning you can mostly find a seat without any trouble. Good selection of drinks and menu offers enough choice for everyone. The fact it's a chain means you know exactly what you're getting, it's much like most other chain pubs in the area. Always rated it as a good place to guy for live sports, particularly when the more obvious places are full - good number of screens and decent size means it can accommodate groups and never had any trouble getting in when other pubs and bars are at capacity.

Always a great pub to visit in the city centre, great atmosphere on a Saturday night and great music played by the DJ's see you at the bar!

Really great food and I can imagine it’s a lovely space in the evening as it’s big. Enjoyed sitting in the booth with own tv screen! Only thing is some more cider options would be nice as aspalls was advertised on the app but not there.

Poor ale now. They got rid of sparklers years ago, but they had a good turnover of ale, so that meant that the beer was still ok. Anyone that thinks ale without sparklers is better is a moron! Now, with doombar and greene king ipa only, you ain't gonna get turnover, so it's decision time. Youd be better not selling ale than how it currently is, much cheaper option.

Well dissatisfied with breakfast recently sausage not cooked enough skin didn't have much colour and tasted cheap, eggs didn't seem cooked and had a slime on them , sorry but left it , was very poor

Spacious pub with nice booths ,splendid loos. Tends to cater for the "day time " clientele,hi viz jackets in abundance .Drinks prices very reasonable for city centre.

Visited this lovely traditional pub based in the city centre last week. Great atmosphere on a Wednesday for the quiz with quality pub food for an affordable price. Staff are friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable about what they have to offer, especially when introducing us to the app so we could get a free welcome drink. Will definitely become a regular visitor whenever we are around that area.

Really great place with a vibrant feel. Staff were on point and quickly tended to the customers who presented themselves at the bar. Not a full menu available but still amazing food.

Don’t get me wrong this is the pub I personally like to go to, never had an issue till last night with the piss-poor service from the stout female at the bar, she was so miserable, borderline aggressive and absolutely no pleasantries. I get you’re busy but really? She actually put my shots so out of arms reach I thought she was then going to slide them over to me but she didn’t, put them next to her card payment device, didn’t even look at me then walked off and served someone else. This is no slating of the pub itself, for me it’s 5 stars baby this rating is for the miserable female from last night.

A very nice Xmas lunch on Friday lunchtime

Okay place, but unfortunately the bouncer with long dyed purple hair was very unprofessional, so we declined spending any more time there. We expected to spend another hour there but felt unsafe with that particular bouncer around the smoking area.

Had a drink pity there is little choice of 0% alcohol beverage

Just had a delivery from here via Just Eat. Food was stone cold, no cheese sauce with the nachos and my husband’s meal looked like someone’s leftovers! Food when eating in is always okay but we’ll never have a delivery again!

The man who served behind the bar was lovely. Food was abysmal, chicken was rock hard, sent it back, gammon burnt. Need to get someone who can actually cook

Booked a table to watch Rugby (we lost). Good selling point to have a TV on the wall at each table which you can pre-book. Food (burgers and fries) were tasty and the service was happy and helpful. The atmosphere was a bit flat due to the pub being only about 30% full, but I imagine it's much better when more crowded.

Busy town centre pub. Had to clear our own table. Food was better than expected but very average pub food. TVs at every table was a bit off putting

First British pub I’ve been to (I’m originally from the US)- and it was great! The chicken katsu was absolutely delicious with such an amazing flavor. My only problem with the dish was the rice, it was glue like. Tasted fine, just a weird texture. Great ambiance and drinks!

Great pub and staff were friendly and smiley. The food menu looked great, we had 5 light bites between 2 of us. Very delicious. We sat at a booth to watch the footy which was a great bonus.

Served at the bar by a very nice bubbly lady. The meal arrived promptly it was quite nice. But what let everything down was that the table was cleared after our meal by a very smelly man. Not nice

Absolutely appalling service. The food portions were minuscule and my chicken was pink! Me and my friends waited 1 hour 30 mins for just 2 meals despite the restaurant being no where near busy. I asked the waitress after an hour where our food was and all she response with was ‘soon’ and rolled her eyes. Me and my friends will NOT be returning.

Ordered fish and chips, and tikka masala. Staff checked in on us, which was nice. The place was quiet as it was morning. There's a lot of TV monitors to watch the news or sports.

I was lucky enough to rent a flat right across from this pub. It quickly became our local for the year. Met pretty much all of the staff there and all were great! Special shout-out to Dan, the great bar man who also introduced us to a metal bar quite close by. He is ginger though which can be quite a shock at first 😉😘 I’LL MISS IT!

They do a great mixed grill. It is a big pub, lots of tables, it was busy but we found a table. Got drinks and food. The team of staff were friendly and helpful, which is always a bonus. Will happily return here next time I am in Leicester.

Had to send food back as was served cold Add on Rang back as requested spoke to lady who took my number after listening to complaint with promises to call me back 4 weeks later still waiting Have even rang and left messages on answer phone never heard back at all Don't think we will be recommending or returning any time soon

The staff are as bad as the regulars. My advice would be to avoid as the food is just as awful.

Fairly identikit 'sports' pub. We booked a table to watch an England 6Nations match. We mentioned the match when we booked. When we got there they simply told us to find a table anywhere. The only free table with a view of screens showing the rugby was in front of a horrible thing stitched together from 4 screens which had a big black cross in the middle. Not really what we were hoping for.

Today 26 Jan 23 my wife ordered a medium 10oz rump steak for me it arrived rare to blue after sending it back the same steak came back at best rare .I did not eat this offering and I after complaining they claimed my wife had said it wrong . After 42 years of marriage I don't think so. No refund was offered and we left very disappointed

Went with my friend to watch Eng vs France World Cup 2022 game. The bouncer was very racist and kept on swearing at my friend. Just because he was brown. He wouldn't let us in at all. We could see white people going in but he wouldn't let us in at all. DEFINETLY NOT GOING TO THIS PLACE AGAIN!

Xmas meal group booking on 10th December at the Friary .The booking was for 23 people who are not easily pleased !!!! The whole experience from start to finish was great . The standard of the meal &service provided by everyone was excellent especially under the challenging circumstances as it was the day of the world cup quarter finals . All of our party said it was the best meal we had eaten and that goes back many ye The table decorations and the reserved area of dining surpassed our expectations . The whole of the team were great from waiting staff to bar staff and not forgetting the kitchen staff behind the scenes .They were all very professional ,friendly and good ambassadors for your venue . Nothing seemed to much trouble for anyone . I can definitely say the whole of the team at The Friary went above and beyond for us We will not hesitate to use you for any future events and also for ad hoc visits /dining .

Harmless pub. Really cheap food that isn't half bad either ! Only negative is that somehow they had ran out of ice ?
