Wonderful! The new owner is so welcoming also to the four legged variety..... whom she gave a sausage! Breakfast good and plentiful. Lovely massive cups of coffee and just a real relaxed feel..... from a by gone era which we also love for it's charm! It is a given when we visit again we'll return......

Tried the Fryer Tuck as Wetherspoons wasn’t doing food. There was four of us. We all ordered a breakfast but they only delivered 3. Had to ask for money back on missing breakfast. Food was disgusting, only luke warm and bread not fresh. VERY overpriced. Staff miserable, will not return!

In dire need of a refurbishment! Broken, tatty seating, sticky tables and smelly toilets Overpriced, substandard food The kitchen, that can be seen from the till area is truly awful! I even witnessed the cook handling raw meat while cooking as if it was nothing. Safe to say I didn't eat in there after this and I won't be back!

As a tour guide at Stonehenge fryer tucks still provides the best breakfast in Wiltshire. I would give it 5 stars but I went in twice in a week and on the Second occasion Radio 1 was playing so loud you couldn’t hear yourself think. Why? The majority of their clientele will be older people so do not understand this. Still a great place and the staff are great.

Cannot rave about this place enough - what wonderful friendly staff, what an excellent menu, and plenty of cute little booths. It was extremely busy when we visited on Sunday morning (not many other places seemed to be open) but nothing was too much bother for the staff. Wiltshire’s biggest breakfast was the first meal I’ve ever known my boyfriend to be defeated by! So glad we came here.

I went to the Friar Tuck after being away for some years, it was like a blast from the past, it is very clean but there was a big downfall, you are greeted by teenagers who feel like they really don't want to be there. There was a lot of screaming from the younger members of staff and a lot of horseplay / swearing going on. It has really put me off from visiting again. I was told from family members that it was under new management and things have changed there, I didn't expect it to be changed for the worse as it seems like a youth club now.

Myself, Bernard, Wolfy, Brian, County, and Froghead visited here for our weekly financial meeting with coincides with are buy / sell Warhammer company. Haven’t been here for years, and I won’t be going back again for years. Honestly the whole Experiance can only be described as ‘depressing’ Miserable staff and Miserable food!!! if you can’t be arsed just don’t bother. The young lad who is front of house or on the till, looked stoned out of his head and clearly isn’t a people person, might be an idea to hide him out the back somewhere if I was you. The food itself was just dire!!! must be the smallest worst burnt sausage I’ve ever seen in the life! Beans cold!! Egg was just mess! And the bacon was basically a lump of fat! The fried bread that I was looking forward to the most could have been used as weapon to kill somebody. Toast was ok though. All in all it left is depressed and hungry!!! As some food was inedible. And as mentioned previously! The place needs a god dam clean!!!! even went for a poo and got caught short as there was no big roll!!

Stay well clear, terrible service. Tables and seating looking like they hadn't been cleaned in months. As for the food, what can I say sausages well over done, hash browns, looked and tasted as though they had been soaked in oil. Visited on 11/03/23, I was asked 'would you like mushrooms with your breakfast' to which I agreed & duly paid for... none were served up & when challenged the member of staff (school boy) on the till he simply ignored my request. In addition to this my partner asked for fish & chips..... O.M.G. you needed to see the fish to believe it, I can honestly say that it was the size of a fish finger !!!. Again when my partner challenged the school boy she was told 'that is the pensioners portion'..... Who asked for that ? Complete & utter waste of money & as for customer service, it is non existent. Not the most luxurious place to eat but the staff are friendly and they do a bang-up fry-up! I think the decor etc...needs updating and they would get more custom if they modernised it a bit but we go there often and it never disappoints. Really tasty food at reasonable prices, good coffee and a nice atmosphere, in spite of the old-fashioned decor! I've noticed potential customers looking through the windows and walking away, which is a shame because looks aren't everything. If they updated the place a bit I think that would be a good investment and they would be inundated!

With out doubt the very worst fish and chips it has been my missfortune to have, tasted or looked at. The texture of the fish was dry and tasted vaugley of seafood. No flakey flesh just a solid mush Not sure what fish it was but for sure it was not cod or haddock. It was not fresh fish. The batter was flatter than a profesional snooker table. Have been in the Friar Tuck plenty of times over the years, but never have I been disappointed until today. Placed our order at approx 2pm. Asked for a black coffee, got a milky one. Then had to wait 45 minutes for food. During that 45 minutes, we were asked another 2 times what it was we were waiting for. And when it came, the chips in the Farmhouse Grill were cold and had to be reheated (not a fresh serving) and the beans and eggs in the Monster Breakfast I ordered were cold. But by this time I was so hungry, I ate them anyway. The place seems to be run by young girls now, with not too much customer experience it seems. We weren't the only customers that had to wait too long for our food, and then a customer that entered before the "closed" sign was turned around, was told they could not have food as the kitchen was closed. Given the number of eateries there are in Amesbury now, I would suggest that the management of this Cafe sort out their issues or their valued customers will be doing elsewhere. Shame really.

Big breakfast needed in advance of Stonehenge visit. We'd seen this place the night before and although we knew the Wetherspoons across the road would probably do a good breakfast, we wanted to spread the joy and try something local. Amazing decor - the door handle was a scimitar sword. The restaurant has red "Wimpy" style booths, with oil lamps hanging over them and at the back of the restaurant was a cave-like white plastered ceiling - a cross between a 1970s Wimpy restaurant and an Alpine chalet - crazy but cosy! According to the smiley, friendly lady behind the counter, the owner has 6 of these restaurants in the area all decorated in the same way! Glad to see some original places have stayed the same despite the trend to knock it down and build it back up in lego bricks. Breakfast was cooked to order and just the ticket - no fancy food but lovely sausages, proper mushrooms (not out of a tin) and lovely local eggs. A smashing big mug of tea with free refills too. Lots of workmen came in when we were there so they have their hardcore of regulars. Would definitely recommend the extensive breakfast menu - and local papers to glance through while we ate. Smashing!

We visited this Café recently with my Mother, 98 years young for lunch whilst out buying her some new shoes. She chose Scampi and my sister and I both had fish and chips. It was ages coming, not that we were perturbed about that as they said they cooked everything to order. When it did come my Mum's scampi was done to a turn, a very brown crisp turn which made it difficult for her to cut into the breaded surroundings of the very poor size scampi inside. We ended up cutting the things for her and trying to dig out as much scampi as we could. When I cut into my 'jumbo' cod, very obviously a frozen sample of the species, and certainly not a Jumbo sized piece measuring something like eight inches or 20 cms, whilst we would have expected a jumbo cod to at least fill the plate across, whilst this was dwarfed by a hug portion of chips, again from the deep freeze and not freshly cooked as they said on their menu. When I cut into mine, the flesh inside on one half of the fish was still the translucent colour it had been when it was caught, whilst about an inch on the other side was a perfectly cooked white flesh. It tasted bad, and the colour of the flesh was a dirty yellow/grey. I complained but was told that it was definitely cooked as the temperature probe had told them it had reached the desired 70 degrees which indicated it was cooked. When I pushed the chap, who turned out to be the Manager of the day, he said well it was a frozen fillet, to which I replied frozen or not, it has to be cooked properly. When I went back to the table, my sister had discovered the same thing with her piece of cod as I had. We all three of us left the café very disgruntled that nobody had listened to our complaint properly, taken any remedial steps to make things right and still hungry. We crossed the road to a cake shop and bought ourselves 'pudding' and ate it in the car before driving back home. Visiting the shoe shop later, we were telling the lady there about our awful lunch without mentioning where we had been and she then told us that she was certain we had been to the Friar Tuck Café, and that their reputation had deteriorated beyond measure since the local pub had opened up as a Weatherspoons. Where the café had once opened until 7 p.m. at night it was now closing at 3.30 for lack of customers. Wish we had known that before we went there, I am sure we would have had a much better meal at Weatherspoons, but we couldn't find the disabled way in and with a wheelchair could not negotiate the steps into the pub. We later found a very small sign on the side of the pub facing away from the road. So we had a meal which cost us the best part of £20 and ate very little of it. Not a good recommendation from us for this café. Perhaps they need a visit from the Health department of the local council as when we visited the ladies loo, we found that a hopper window inside the loo, opened directly onto the kitchen facilities.A chap behind us ordered sausage and mash with gravy, the mash turned out to be very crudely crushed potatoes and seemed quite hard as he toyed with them for a while, ate the sausages and then left the rest of his meal on the plate.

It was busy so there should be a high turnover of food (they seem to cook and store).. it still took 10 mins to get food plated..Obviously eggs are fresh cooked, but the beans and bacon were cold... it's inexcusable..I didn't raise it with the manager at the time, I was too hacked off.. I went over the road for a coffee. The staff are not just there to serve food or take the order, they are the face of the business. Please train them to be so... I want to be welcomed and treated like I'm wanted there. It's unlikely I'll try it again. There's plenty of cafés about that are much better. That treat your custom as the most valuable they've had...Service is equally important as the food quality. On a factual note, the cafe had plenty of seats and seemed clean and the meat quality ok.

When in Amesbury visit this little gem of a place. They do the best fried breakfast in town, and great value for money.

This is a chips with everything cafe. Passing through Amesbury we chose it as it appeared busy and that is usually a good sign. Serving staff were friendly and efficient. Ambience as expected in an English cafe. Ordered chicken and chips. The chips, peas and salad were fine, but the chicken was so overcooked and dry we had to shred it off the bone. One of the worst lunches Ive had the misfortune to buy.

This is what British cafe food should be like . The food was hot and fast and the retro cave decor was very cool too . Nice price and family friendly . My only critique would be that the cafe could be cleaned to a higher standard as I had a dead wasp looking at me on the window seal that was there the week before . I would go back and the charm of the pine tables adds to it all . Great

Good breakfast, good set up everyone seems to know what they are doing. I would personally prefer mushrooms cooked in a saucepan with butter than deep fried but that's just personal preference. Will be back!

met the boys here for a breakfast fill up before work, wasn't disappointed old school café with all the old favourites, nothing fancy but reasonably priced, I stuffed my face on a traditional English and didn't eat again until after 7pm, if im in Amesbury again I will definitely go back again, service was quick and the staff friendly.

I used to love the fry ups here. Massive breakfasts :) But after a while it seems like the food has gotten worse and fat just pours out of it haha. Better breakfast across the street now. Shame

I would recommend this cafe. It serves great traditional English breakfasts and for a very reasonable price. We got fed up of rip off prices and poor quality places to stop and eat on the way to and from Devon. This place is well worth a very small detour of the A303.

I go here regularly for a good old fashioned fry up! You get big portions at a very reasonable price. Staff are friendly, service is quick, and the restaurant is clean and tidy

Stopped here a couple of times when passing through - standard cafe type food (traditional cafe that is - not a more contemporary coffee shop type place.) Varied menu - breakfasts, omlettes, burgers, scampi etc. All made fresh and served quickly - good value and handy location. Interesting decor too!!

Absolutely dreadful! Advertised a la carte menu replaced with a 'bar' menu. Took the waiter 15 minutes to bring a menu and ask if we'd like drinks 40 minutes for food to arrive which was not hot. The pork belly my colleague had was wrapped in gooey fat not crackling, the pumpkin sauce was a teaspoon of orange 'something' and the seasonal veg was mashed potato and some peas. The chicken burger was deep fried and tasted of old fryer fat as did the 'tepid' skin in chips. Presentation of the burger was non existent and the two tiny leaves of lettuce were brown. This was fed back to the waiter when he finally returned to our table his response was he'd mention it to the Chef. The after dinner treat of sticky toffee pudding was solid and rubbery, not moist. The tiniest bit of ice cream and a token gesture at the sauce all was tepid. The dining room was cold and drafty. The decor tired and wall paper peeling off the ceiling and walls. Utterly awful experience with nobody interested in the overall shoddiness of the service and food. Really disappointing, especially as this is the closest hotel to work. A real missed opportunity for this Hotel and Restaurant.

Very good lunch, busy but were found a table quickly. Staff we dealt with were all excellent, special thanks to Amelia who recommended the BBQ chicken with sweet potato fries and coleslaw. Will be another addition to our favourite lunch spots..
