Fress in Manchester

Visited Fress for brunch and had the full English — really good. The atmosphere and food were great, but what stood out most was the excellent service. Rubel, a member of staff, genuinely went above and beyond. From the warm welcome to the helpful menu suggestions and attentive service throughout, he made the experience feel personal and memorable. It’s not often you come across that level of care, and it really made a difference. Fress is a great spot, and Rubel’s service made it even better.

Not sure why this place is often quiet! Really solid food, have tried a lot of dishes on their menu and have never really been let down (although my go-to used to be the waffle eggs royale, and they don’t do smoked salmon anymore which is a bit disappointing for a brunch place). Good service too.

Got served by Kay, he was so lovely, he made sure we had the best time, food and drinks came out on time and tasted amazing, been back after and will be going back again

Absolutely gorgeous cafe, super clean and the staff are so lovely (especially Kay!) - there are so many choices for food whether you are going for breakfast, brunch or lunch! Food was gorgeous as always 🤩 can’t wait to come back and definitely going to be a regular from now

Came for a brunch for a birthday and couldn’t fault anything ! The ice teas are delicous and you can tell how much care goes into everything they do. The veggie breakfast was especially good - so many places skimp on that but it was so decadent. The owner took time to have a chat with us and was super friendly. Interior was beautiful!!! Will 100% be back.

Thank you for your reply, but I think you're missing the point. "We don't offer tap water" says it all about your service philosophy. Tap water costs you nothing to provide, yet you refuse it to paying customers. Every other establishment we visited in Manchester offers tap water without issue—it's a basic courtesy. Also, offering "complimentary drinks to all reviewers" is frankly unprofessional. If you're willing to give away free drinks for positive reviews, why not just offer free tap water in the first place? That simple gesture would have prevented this negative review entirely. We didn't have a reservation, but we did spend 39 pounds in your establishment that morning. However, this isn't even the main issue here. Running a business isn't easy, and I understand you can't only accept customers who spend a certain amount. But using our spending habits to justify refusing basic hospitality like tap water doesn't address the actual problem with your service. Next time, perhaps focus less on bribing customers for good reviews and more on providing basic hospitality like tap water.

I took my mum out this morning for brunch, and it was absolutely amazing, we ordered the halal english breakfast which was so tasty! The iced lattes were delicious, the coffee wasn’t as overpowering as you get in most places. We also ordered the summer fruits french toast, it was very light and fluffy, we loved it! would definitely recommend

I booked afternoon tea with Fress as a nice outting with my best friend. Fress were amazing and patient with me whilst we booked - I had my dates mixed up, but they allowed me to take my time to double check the dates, and even offered me free rebooking if it turns out I did, indeed, book the wrong date. I was also given a cohice of two different afternoon teas, with each explained in detail so that I could make an informed choice. The staff were incredily friendly - even when I accidentally sent them a screenshot of our chat that I was supposed to send to my friend as confirmation we were having afternoon tea! The staff made me feel reassured that no harm was done, and it actually made their day, which made me feel less embarassed haha! The food was beautiful. I'm a picky eater with ADHD, and so I was alittle concerned about trying flavours I had never had before, but the staff allowed me to ask as many questions as I wanted about ingredients, the type of taste and if we coul mix and match. The sandwhiches were a delight - it was so nice to have halal sandwhiches for once, and not just vegetarian. The tea was brilliant and not overbrewed, and we eve nhad a mocktail each. Not only is Fress fully halal, it also has NO ALCOHOL! I have struggled so much to find a brunch place that is halal and also doesn't serve alcohol, or offer shisha. It was nice to be in a place that was simply a beautiful brunch destination, with sleek decor and wonderful wonderful staff that I could actually be comfortable inside.

Can’t fault the food (except a £3 add on for sausages provides you with one) but we ordered coffee and juice as asked for tap water. They said they only have still or sparkling no tap, but they serve alcohol so are required to provide tap water. Bit dodgy and didn’t want to argue as we were waiting for food but won’t be back

Came to try this place with my husband and was very disappointed with service, however management was more than happy to rectify this issue and gave us a full refund for our food and was very apologetic.

Been to Fress a few times now and they never disappoint! A friend and I ordered the chicken toasty and pancakes in the pistachio and Oreo flavour. The sandwich was flavourful, though slightly sweet, which was fine by me. The pistachio sauce on the pancakes was delicious too! The food is very filling and definitely worthwhile. I’ve tried other things like the biscoff french toast and Philly steak wrap, which were also great. I think my favourite dessert so far is the biscoff french toast and favourite savoury meal is the chicken french toasty. The drinks though are some of the best I’ve had - specifically the iced chai latte and pistachio latte. The customer service is also great, no complaints!

I recently visited FRESS with mixed feelings, having had a less-than-stellar experience during my first visit. The ambiance was nice, but the service was slow, and my order was incorrect. However, I decided to give it another shot, and I’m glad I did! On my second visit, the atmosphere felt warmer and more inviting. What truly stood out was the exceptional service provided by Kayes and Rubel. They were attentive, friendly, and genuinely eager to ensure I had a great experience. They made thoughtful recommendations from the menu, which I appreciated, as I was indecisive. Kayes went out of his way to check in regularly, and Rubel’s enthusiasm was infectious. They made me feel like a valued customer, turning my experience around completely. The food was delicious, fresh, and exactly what I had hoped for. This visit transformed my perception of the cafe. If you’re ever there, I highly recommend seeking out Kayes and Rubel for their outstanding service. It’s amazing how a little attention and care can make all the difference!

Really nice place and do a very nice brunch

The food here is incredible! Kayes was absolutely lovely and recommended the steak, eggs, and cheesy hash, all of which were fantastic. The mocktails were also amazing so refreshing and flavorful! Highly recommend this place for both the food and the excellent recommendations.

Came here yesterday for eid with my family. It was really busy but both the staff were exceptional. The food was amazing and came out really quick. The vibe was good and it was overall an amazing experience, I know why people recommend this place now, because they have high standards. I want to thank Rubel and Kayes for their amazing service and making eid special for me and my family.

Very disappointing experience as I've heard good things about this place. Portions are very small. It's not bad food but it's not anything special either for the price. Service was not the best either.

Disappointing Experience We visited in December We weren’t greeted & instead was asked “Do you have a booking” and were initially seated at a table we didn’t prefer, as we wanted a booth. We were told the booth was unavailable in case a group of five came in, which we understood. However, once seated, we noticed that waffles and another item (possibly pancakes or French toast) were crossed off the menu—something the server didn’t inform us about beforehand. Unfortunately, the server was more focused on engaging with two other customers, laughing and joking with them possibly flirting who knows but that would’ve been fine if he atleast came over to our table once.while completely ignoring our table & after waiting without any engagement or assistance, we decided to leave. It was disappointing because the positive experiences reflected in other reviews were not at all what we encountered.

This place must be under new management because it has gone way downhill. The vibe has completely changed to that of a trashy dessert place, the service was absent minded and the breakfast ruined. No part of the full English was good, the hash browns have been replaced with weird cheesy American tots, and it's now served with pancakes?? Fress was once one of the top brunch places in Manchester, but it is no more. On top of all this they have the Gaul to add 12.5% service charge. Avoid!

We went to Fress Northern Quarter and had this delicious steak and eggs, the atmosphere was warm and friendly and this was reflected by the staff especially Faisal, who took great care of us during our visit. Would definitely recommend to family and friends.

Poor experience today at Fress. Been here before and had a good time, however alot has changed and cannot recommend it. Portions for full english were small, and the fact there is no tap water is not great, i was really shocked that when i inquired about tap water . I was told that if they can “monetise water why wouldn’t they”, being then told the business made a purposeful choice to not serve alcohol so they can be exempt from the law to have to serve free tap water . Additionally when we asked to split a bill we were told unless it’s under £50 we cant. We were told we were speaking to the manager and that this was a practise across all branches, when we asked again if they could let us split the bill. Honestly I think the service needs to be improved, and the quality of what you pay for, as the bread we received had no butter, my brie bread was barely warm. I do not usually write negative reviews , but would ask owners to rethink the business practises they have installed here. As I have been fress before 2 years ago and none of the problems faced today were present, with larger portions, ability to split the bill and tap water all available in the past.

I got the halal full English which was considerably smaller than the last time I came. One egg and one sausage and a lot less sides. You aren’t able to get tap water and cannot split the bill unless it’s more than £50 on card. The service was not great considering you get charged a mandatory service charge. Very greedy business practices which other companies do not do.

I’m leaving this review after witnessing a rather shocking situation at the restaurant. We overheard a table of customers being difficult with the staff, asking for free items and water, which was quite surprising. Throughout our visit, our waiter was exceptionally attentive, from the moment we arrived until we left. When the server asked for feedback, we mentioned we would happily leave a review, especially considering what had just transpired. The waiter told us not to worry, even though they were clearly going through a challenging moment. We appreciated their professionalism and wanted to show our support by leaving this positive review.

I went fress for the first time this evening and the food was excellent, i got the chicken toasty which was very tasty, the food was reasonably priced and the service was on point both kayez and rubel had looked after us.

Food, service, location and setting is perfect. Really enjoyed the American breakfast here. The manager is a great individual and is warm and welcoming when arriving. Coffee is one of the nicest I’ve had. Look forward to coming back for more.

Had the afternoon tea here and it was amazing! The food was delicious, and I couldn’t get enough of the cheesy hash - it was the ultimate comfort food. Even though I’m not usually a fan of salmon, the smoked salmon waffles were a surprise hit. The service was fantastic too—staff were super friendly and attentive, making the experience even better. The cosy vibe adds to the charm, and I loved how relaxed it felt. Definitely a spot worth checking out. Can’t wait to return for another round!

I have come to Fress a few times now but today when i went for breakfast in the morning I wasn’t pleased with the service at all. I did not get greeted properly instead the staff said “do you have a a booking” which just sounded rude. The staff took me to the table and which the menus was there. When i was ready to order i had to keep calling the staff member to take my order down. After I received my Fress brekie the staff did not give me a any butter for my toast i had to again call out the staff member to come give me butter as the the staff was to busy talking constantly to the other staff which i found frustrating. The staff did not even come to check if everything was okay with the food or to ask how was it all?? I was shocked by the service as i have been to Fress many times and did not expect this service. I would not be coming again for sure. The food is great but the service is super bad even tho it was not even busy but staff could not be bothered to approach the customers ridiculous. Not a great atmosphere at all.

Me and 2 friends came from Sheffield today, we wanted a nice chilled time together to have some food and catch up but our experience was absolutely horrible. I was appalled by the staff member that served us, Fahad. When my friend placed her order for her food she specifically asked for chicken not meat (as she doesn’t eat meat), He didn’t repeat the order at the end to confirm whether our order was correct or not, to which when we mentioned this to him he responded with “it is your job to tell me to repeat the order” however when the food came out she was served a Philly wrap? (Which was meat). Fahad was very rude and very patronising. He was blaming my friend for ordering the “wrong food” and that she should’ve spoken up since they had a full house. He claimed to have heard her say “Philly wrap” which she didn’t, and said that he would be packing the food regardless and that she had to pay as the chef had spent time making the food. Correct me if I’m wrong but that is the chefs job right? He then went on to saying that they don’t do a chicken wrap, however when the manager had come to speak to us and the matter was resolved, she was served what she asked for. The manager himself had good communication and was very apologetic for all this, which was greatly appreciated by me and my friends. The service from this staff member (Fahad) was appalling! No good customer service skills at all, he needs training and to be taught how to speak to customers professionally! I will not be returning to this restaurant.

I had high hopes for this place but unfortunately was let down. Service from a certain waiter was horrible, he was very rude and argumentative. My friend had ordered a chicken wrap but instead was given the Philly steak wrap (she doesn’t eat meat). Mistakes happen which of course is okay, we’re human and it was busy. However, the man that served us (fahad) approached us in a rude manner. He came to the table and said he is going to pack it up and she has to pay for it. She obviously declined as it wasn’t her fault, he misheard and didn’t even read the order out at the end to confirm. Then said it’s her fault?? If she had made the mistake and ordered the wrong item then that would be justified but she clearly ordered the chicken wrap. He then proceeded to say that they don’t even do a chicken wrap but when the matter was resolved by the manager, he then served a chicken wrap? Hope this helps them realise that regardless if he is the “co-owners son” he needs to sort his attitude out. I won’t be coming back again ever!

Been here twice and I absolutely enjoy the food, will be going back soon just because of the food The service was not all that great, we had to wait for so long for someone to get our order, kept waving at the staff but no one answered till we stood up to the counter but they were coming to get every other persons order even people that came after us- could this be because we’re POC?

The staff are really friendly and accommodating. I had the vegan breakfast. It was just fine. The tofu was very dry. My partner had a full English and she also said it was just okay. The other food like pancakes and burgers that were going by as we were eating looked better so maybe we ordered wrong. On the whole though, not a bad place.

Good brunch place, halal english breakfast and great dessert options. Central location. Highly recommend.

I’ve been to Fress five times now, and each visit has been nothing short of spectacular. The food is so incredible that I’ve ordered the same thing three times — the steak and cheesy hash — and I can confidently say it’s the best in all of Manchester. The steak is always cooked to perfection, tender and bursting with flavor. And it’s halal! The presentation of the dishes is truly next-level — everything looks as good as it tastes. I don’t understand the bad reviews this place gets. Sure, it can be busy during peak times like lunch, but that’s what you’d expect from a popular, intimate venue. The small, cozy vibe is part of what makes Fress so special, and honestly, the staff handle busy times really well. The service is always attentive, warm, and friendly staff, but making you feel truly welcome. The ambiance is top tier — the music is always on point. The playlist is FIRE!!! 🔥 It’s the kind of place where you can enjoy a good meal and also just soak in the atmosphere. Fress has become a place I’m more than happy to travel far for. You won’t know until you try it. Fress is a true gem in Manchester’s food scene, and I’ll keep coming back for more!
