Freshman's Fish & Chips in Conwy

Greeted by friendly staff, we ate inside tables were nice clean and all condiments on them, fish was lovely, chips where fine not greasy , peas were better than my last visit in August, nice fresh bread too

i ordered food online and money was taken from my bank account. i did not receive my food. when i got in touch with them i was told it was not their fault but just eat are responsible. they are thieves, they stole money from me a disabled person. do not touch them with a bargepole

Would give out of 10 bought a small chips but for the second time they were re fries and stale not the usual quality freshly made very disappointing and will not go there again,ended up bining them, what a waste of money

Chips really gone downhill last couple of months. Hard n bitty...though fish ok.....but staff change has left chips awful. Give it a miss.

Great value fish and chips. cooked to perfection. Large portion sizes, maybe even too large! Friendly staff. We ate in as opposed to takeaway, and it was pleasant enough and very tidy and clean. Would recommend.

I try to avoid giving low ratings but it’s all tonight’s experience deserves. We entered fish shop at 7:15. We were the only customers at that time. We ordered fish and chips, steak and kidney pie and chips and a chicken curry. Other people entered after us and were served. While we were waiting a family we’re given their food and took it to eat outside. The mother had to return a few minutes later because their order was wrong. We were aware of the lady wrapping food and placing it into the heated display tray in the paper. After a 25 minute wait (honestly) the lady announced our order. Some of our order had been sitting in the display tray for over 10 minutes. We took our food and headed back to our flat to eat. When we got there, two problems. The food sitting inside the wrappings for 10 minutes had soggy chips because they had sitting so long. The other problem was that she hadn’t put the curry in our order. So to summarise:- Bad service; Lengthy delays; Poor food. The only (minor) positive is that it’s competitively priced. Won’t go there again.

Got a pie from here ,was overcooked to exent it was dry inside it ended up in the bin ,the chips weren't much better as they was not fresh

Lovely, friendly staff and delicious food 🤤 the fish was crispy and light, not greasy. Perfectly cooked and super soft inside. Chips were piping hot and crispy. Can't go wrong! :D

This is an honest review We travelled from Manchester to Rhos on-sea on Friday night for a weeks holiday. We arrived at our rented accommodation and decided we were going to get fish and chips for tea. We always go by reviews when ordering in a town we don't know. We found Freshmans and read some reviews that were acceptable. We phoned and made an order of 4 fish and chips, the young girl took the order and we asked if they delivered. She replied saying yes they do and we asked how long would it be. She asked someone in the shop who said it would be going out around 6.30pm. We called our order in around 5.35pm and were happy waiting until 6.30pm as it was a Friday night and chip shop would be busy. At 6.45pm we received a call from the chip shop explaining that they have been really busy and sorry for the delay. We said we understood and asked was our order on its way. The guy replied it was just leaving and would be with us shortly. At around 7pm we started to think the delivery guy might have got lost, by 7.15pm there was a knock at the door. When we answered it, we were met with a cheerful chap and he handed us a bag with our food in. The table was set and brews ready and suppers were put out. You can imagine our disappointment when we only has 4 portions of chips and 2 portions of fish. The chips were luke warm and we were all looking at each other thinking we have waited for this. We were so hungry we shared the 4 portions after reheating in microwave and shared the 2 portions of fish between the four of us. We called the chip shop after eating our measly portions, I called the shop. Some guy answered and I processed to tell him how disappointed we were with our order. He said he was sorry for the messed up order and would refund us for the 2 portions of fish we never recieved. That really didn't make up for the disappointment of not having a good meal. The order Cost £26 so he was going to refund us just over £8 for the two pieces of fish we never received. He said he couldn't do it that night but would do it on the following day (Saturday). The following day a woman rang and said she heard there was a problem with our order the previous evening. I said yes and explained what happened. She asked if the employee on the phone the previous evening didn't offer to send the guy back with 2 pieces of fish. I stated we waited that long for him to arrive the first time we just shared out and ate the dinner that was there, we were not prepared to wait any longer for fish we should of had in first place. She said she would refund the cost of the fish, I said I really wasn't happy with that as our whole evening meal was not enjoyable and disappointing.So much so I was going to write an honest review as I took a photo of the sad meal. I did say if she was prepared to refunded us the full price of the said meal £26 I would not leave a review and that would be that. She refused and her whole manner was off handed and couldn't care attitude was not pleasant. So I already told her I would leave a honest review so here it is. I will be visiting this lovely part of Wales again but I would not be placing any orders from this business and strongly recommend others think twice. The phot is of the sad meal, amazing what you will eat when you have no other choice. It's 17.42pm Sunday evening and cannot see the rebate for the fish in our account yet.

My partner & I along with a friend had a meal here several times over the summer. The food was well prepared & cooked, the fish was very tasty & not dry & overcooked. We look forward to eating here again in the future.

We popped in to Freshman’s on 10/9/22 for lunch. We found the food really good and the price very reasonable . £6.50 each included Cod, chips, Mushy peas, Bread & Butter with a mug of Tea. The service was quick and friendly The restaurant was very clean, The best tasting F&C,s I have had in north wales this year.

A short walk from the beach, a lovely find this chip shop. Eat in or take out. The staff are very helpful. I took a bag and collected 4 lots of fish and chips while the rest of them played on the beach. Nice walk to the town and a short walk back. All enjoyed back in the beach

We came here for lunch and sat in. There isn't a huge choice on the menu but the prices are cheap enough. You have to order at the counter and then go back to collect when its ready. The food is good.

Just walked from Rhyl to Colwyn bay and found this little gem of a chippy, the staff were super friendly and very helpful and efficient, my boyfriend and I both agreed it was the best fish and chips we've ever had. If we ever visit Colwyn bay again you can bet we'll be back for seconds thanks again ladies for your great service and great customer care 💞

Ordered today and staff where friendly enough but food was dry Fish chips and mushy peas although it took some time to serve my order I don't mind if quality is good This wasn't , it tasted like it had been made a few days previously And to top this off when I got outside I seen special board for fish chips and mushy peas tea with bread and butter for £6.30 I got no bread and butter and got charged £7.35 After these we walked around Colwyn bay and seen 4/5 other establishments I would definitely try these before this one I for one will not be going back to freshman's

Take Away delivered! Been looking for a decent chippy that delivers 🙌🏻 Found one. Good choice on the menu I had fish chips curry sauce and mushy peas Daughter had sausage and chips Was hot on delivery was tasty. Lady that delivered was friendly Will 100% order again Thank you

We ordered a home delivery, our first takeaway meal since lockdown. Absolutely delicious. Food was hot, well presented. Large portion of cod in hot ,crispy batter. Huge portion of chips and mushy peas. Best of all no washing up

Had a delivery from here. Everything was hot and fresh. Fish was really tasty and chips were lovely. Staff were really friendly when putting the order in. Great service all round. Will defiantly use again

I had eaten here previously but this time I ordered Fish and Chips, The Fish was clearly under EU size regulations, ie it looked like a battered fish finger, no joke and a tiny portion of chips! I was so shocked that I left it and walked out.The owner behind the counter is also very unfriendly. Never again

Stopped here for some traditional sea side fish and chips whilst on a day trip here. The table service was prompt and friendly and the food was delishious. Loved the fish shaped plates for the fish and chips really nice touch! Great food, service and value. Definatly worth a visit.

We stopped in Colwyn Bay on our trip from the west country to Liverpool and found this Fish and Chip and we had great food

Visited on 29/10/2019 I had a Cod Special, the batter was nice and crispy and the Fish was very nice. Chips were tasty and the Peas. My other half had Sausage, Chips & Gravy which she enjoyed

The food was freshly cooked and tasted lovely. The waitress dumped cutlery on the table!Waitress was rude and couldn’t be bothered.Although the restaurant only had around 4 tables occupied at 1.30 ish. The restaurant was dirty, chips and left over food on the floor and tables along with an old tea bag!

Popped into the restaurant for tea whilst visiting. Fish and chips twice with peas and curry came with a pot of tea and bread and butter. What more could you want? Very good.

We were so hungry that we left satisfied but unless desperate, I suggest that you avoid. There was nothing that made the fish any better than from a supermarket pack or any other random fish and chip shop. The batter was not delicious and seemed just too hard. The chips were like school chips - poor ones. The service was fast but we were the only customers.

Visited with my husband and mum in law 2 weeks ago and enjoyed the food that I ate but was appalled by the way the person who was in charge was talking to the young girl waiting on. She embarrassed her in front of the customers which was nothing other than bullying in my eyes. If you are going to scold your staff then do it when others are not present. Do not do it in front of a shop of customers, regardless of how many were there.

So the food was OK not the best but a good price and nice. I did not like however how one of the staff maybe the manager shouted at her staff in front of the customers. If anyone spoke to me like that they would be told straight. To me this is bullying and not on. I don't care what they have done you take them to one side. Honestly wanted to say something when there but bit my lip

It’s the second time we’ve been here now, didn’t particularly enjoy the first time but decided to give it another go as it was a few years since we last visited. We ended up throwing away almost three plates of chips as they was soggy, nothing like chip shop chips that you would expect, didn’t enjoy any of the food at all I’m afraid. One plus is you can sit inside.

Popped in for fish, chips and peas special. For the price, was OK, £5.85. Fish was a bit small but tasted ok and chips and peas ok, if not the best I ever had. Overall an ok choice. Staff were all very friendly and polite.

On the 9/02/2019 we didn't know what to have for dinner and we saw this fish and chip shop. when we walked in there was a lovely atmosphere in the fish and chip shop and the staff are very friendly and the very polite one of the staff told me that she likes my earrings nice people in the restaurant and very spacious in the fish and chip shop the prices are not bad the dinner was AMAZING and a lot for how much you pay and the plates are very cute and wanted to take one home with us the fish was out of this world and good size and the cup of tea was nice. also very clean restaurant next time we come to colwyn bay we will definitely come back to have some dinner

My husband and I have often had the o.a.p special...just the right size fish...no soggy batter..crispy chips...mushy peas...bread and butter...tea or coffee...for under a fiver...we really look forward to our meal...brill

We spotted this restaurant and really fancied some nice fish & chips. We were not disappointed, the service was speedy and the food was excellent.

We have been going to Freshman's for about a year. Pop in for lunch every now and then. Always have the Cod Special. which is freshly cooked to order. Nicely presented food. Lovely and clean restaurant with plenty of seating. not crammed in - so pushchair and wheelchair friendly.

We came here for lunch . I had the sausage and chips. The food was cooked to order so was piping hot when it arrived. The restaurant was clean and tidy with plenty of tables. The service was good, the food was good and the prices were reasonable.

Stopped in for a family chippy dinner as spent all day travelling. Service was great and prompt. Food wise, I'm not sure what was soggier, the batter on my surprisingly small cod or the surprisingly few "large" chips. Also middle daughter's pie tasted and looked like an Iceland special.

I love chips so when a friend had nothing but praise for this place I couldn't wait to eat there. We we served burnt, soggy chips which looked completely unappetizing. When I asked the lady if this was how they served their chips she replied, "Oh yes. They are fresh too!" Needless to say we threw half of them away. Only ate the half that was edible because I was starving. The curry sauce was okay.

We chose a simple beans on toast and cheese on toast which were low-priced and absolutely fine. The tea was nice and strong with lots of hot water. The syrup sponge was delightful. Service was very friendly. The toilet was clean. All in all a great place for a cheap and cheerful tea.

Slimy fish, mushy peas so dry they would not come out of the pot. Portion size so small any other chip shop would serve them as pensioner specials. Over priced and poor quality. We sat outside and were not allowed to eat from the menu, only allowed the take away menu. Avoid.

Had a lovely, freshly cooked, fish and chips. Hubby had pie and chips. They bought the meal out to us at the tables being has we had our dog with us. The meal was beautiful and the staff were fabulous.

Been past a couple of times and always thought it looked nice so today went in with my partner and his little boy. I had the cod special (cod, chips, mushy peas, bread and butter and a pot of tea for £5.95) great value and so tasty. Partner had sausage and chips and little man had burger, chips and beans. Lunch for 3, including drinks for £15.50! Would definitely recommend.

second time I have eaten here and the standards always high both in the produce and the service. very light crisp battered cod tasted really nice and the staff sense of urgency and attention to details is pretty good . thank you for a lovely lunch

On a long drive from Bedford to Holyhead to get the 8:30pm ferry, my wife & I stopped here for a nice walk along the beach, and decided to have a quick look around the shops. Most were closed (it was after 5pm in November). We both felt a bit peckish and this place looked inviting.I had a scampi & chips, my wife had the special - cod, chips & a pot of tea, which was generous so we got 3 cups out of it. Mine included mushy peas which I don't usually like (I prefer garden peas) but everything was fine, also quick waitress service to our table.

I was cold and hungry after walking a stretch of the Wales Coastal Path and so glad I happened across Freshman’s. How nice to receive a warm welcome and friendly service. I had the Cod Special - very nice mushy peas (not salty or sugary sweet), crispy chips with fluffy insides, a generous piece of cod in a nice light batter, slice of lemon, served on a pre-warmed plate in the shape of a fish (nice touch), 2 slices of buttered bread and a pot of tea. Just £5.95. No greasy residue on the plate - a testament to good cooking. And, I noted, 5 stars awarded for food hygiene. Excellent!

This was one of the best plates of fish and chips I've had in a long time. Chips were crispy on the outside and soft inside. The fish was covered with a thin, crisp batter and was delicious. I'm not a mushy pea person, so can't comment on those. At £5.95 for the fish and chips, bread and butter and a pot of tea, it was terrific value. It's not fine dining - ambience is what you would expect in a restaurant attached to a fish and chip shop.

Petty staff wouldn't let nephew sit with his great nan inside because he had not had the menu inside also great nan was not allowed to have pensioners special outside I think they thought she was going to pinch the cup or something

Iv estado aquí antes y me gusta mucho este lugar, limpio abierto ambiente encantador aswel como cod encantador especial, pero me di cuenta que comencé a hacer el desayuno! ! ! ! Bien ah mis días qué ganga! ! Creo que es uno de los más baratos! Ofrecen una pequeña y una grande. El pequeño era suficiente para mí. Era una encantadora barato tratan como yo estaba esperando alrededor de mi hijo :-) definitivamente volveremos!

Stopped in here for a pie and chips, the girl who served me looked stressed despite there only being two customers sitting down, all looked clean but noticed that the four small sausage in the display looked at least a day old, but then, I thought, they may just be the display, but no, I saw her put two on a customers food next to fresh fried eggs, when the customer politely came to say he couldn't cut through them, the girl huffed and replaced them with the OTHER two day old sausages, saying they hadn't put enough out that MORNING! Felt awful for the customers, and then when I saw a girl with really long false nails and nail varnish holding a frozen pie under the coffee machine dripping boiling water onto the pastry and dipping it in a saucer to 'defrost' it before putting it in the microwave repeatedly to get it to cook, I had to walk out. I didn't ask for my money back, as, contrary to this review, I hate complaining and don't like to make a big deal out of small things, but the food handling and quality was just way too bad to eat. Ended up going to a different chippy in colwyn bay, got the same meal, nice and fresh elsewhere! Sorry guys! :(

The chips were ok,not the best ive had ,but the main thing for me was they had no gluten free items and the mushy peas were flavourless.only good thing is the portions were good,staff wernt overfriendly but atleast the cafe is a decent size.

went here as i seen a cod meal deal on the window, when inside I decided to go for cod and chips the waitress told me it would be only a few minutes wait as they had just opened, the fish was so white and tasted great, the batter was also very light. I usually only eat the fish when in most chippys but this time I finished off everything. will defiantly return.

I cant believe i payed £4.20 for a sausage and PACKET MASH! It's a chippy for god sake they must have loads of potatoes, and thats without including the staff

Went in with family ranging from 3 to 80. First thing you notice is the decor is fresh and clean. No sticky tables or placemats. Huge area for seating and they put tables together for us to eat together as group of 10. They do specials like OAP special which is great deal. I ordered small fish and chips and it was was the best tasting fish. It was fresh and beautifully cooked.Staff were in uniform and were friendly and accommodating. All the group were complimentary on the tasty food and presentation.Will definitely be eating there again. Highly recommend for the tasty fish!!

Freshmans fish and chip establishment.We have eaten here a few times and we have always had great service and served with very polite staff who have always answerd any dietary questions also information available for gluten free.There's plenty of seating inside and out,they cater for all ages and sell Oap special which is very good value for the money.we would like to say a big thank you to our waitress Katherine as she not only server's you with a smile but listens very we'll to your order and makes sure you the customer, are happy The surrounding area is a mixture of shops and a street market on a Tuesday and Saturday ( Saturday is the best day for the market )You are also very close to the promenade which is signed posted and very easy to walk to,worth a visit as it's just been re - vamped and looks very different from the old one it's also great to take you're fish and chips there and eat them traditionally by the sea.

We were looking for somewhere to eat in Colwyn Bay and came upon this chippy. They had a deal of fish, chips, peas, bread and butter all with a cup of tea for £4.95 (OAP) rate. It was the best fish and chips I have had in years. I usually do not eat the fish batter but this time I ate every little bit, it was light and crisp.They did say it would be a smaller portion size but me and my partner thought it was more than adequate. We sat inside a warm and exceptionally clean café / restaurant. The meal was served on nice shaped plates, not the bog standard that you may expect. I visited the toilets and again they were exceptionally clean and plenty of room for wheel chair use.Will definitely return.Neither of us could fault the service, food or cleanliness of the place.

Been here a few times now, food always lovely, slightly on the small side, portion wise, on a few of the meals, But the OAP special is brilliant value! And I always find its just enough for lunch time. Always friendly, polite and kept very well cleaned which is always a huge bonus when eating in!! Iv tried a few different items off take away and eat in menus and never came across any of them being overly greasy. Definitely best fish and chips around.

Sorry but there is very little positive to say about this PLAICE.Girl on counter less than friendly.Poor portion size. Fish & Chips were sub-standard.There are better PLAICES in Colwyn Bay.

My partner and I had lunch there today the staff were very friendly and the food was brilliant. Would recommend to all.

Called in tonight but was totally disgusted by what was brought to the table, I would have been ashamed to serve a Cod that they gave me, if you took a normal size cod and cut it in half that's what they gave me , and full price, I was so shocked, it was almost the size of two fish fingers. Having been in before, portion size has always been small, but this was a total rip off, terrible, I walked out, leaving the food on the table, and will never go back, It's no wonder all the tables were empty bar 1, at peak time.

This is the best chippy ever, called in for lunch, sat outside on a lovely day, we ordered small lunch and it was perfect. all cooked to order very friendly staff, and lovely fish and chips not greasy and light batter, really tasty, pity its so far away from home!

Food was very average.staff weren't much better one of the girls who was small with reddish hair was very rude and had a foul mouth on her my children could hear her using bad language and I wasn't impressed in the slightest. Maybe if I pop in next time get some staff that are nice enough to respect others.

The portions were very small for the price, the staff were very young and not very polite. I didn't get any conversation out of the staff that served myself and my friends, barely even got a smile. I think you should employ new staff that know abit about customer service.

Heard this was under new ownership/management so gave it another try, had the Haddock/chips/peas/tea/bread n butter special - - still served on very small plates and portions not that generous but still a good value eat in meal in a modern, clean restaurant and probably the best traditional fish and chip shop in town to dine in - do think better take outs in town but still worth a visit.

Me and a friend visit freshmens on a regular basis, it's great value for money and a delicious meal. I will be continuing to visit.

I visited during the 40's festivals and it was very busy. I had to wait a little longer which was to be expected as it was so busy but this was politely explained to me by a member of the staff who were in 40's costume. I was so pleased that the food was well worth the wait. £5.95 got me a delicious meal Cod, chips, mushy peas not only that i also got bread and butter and a pot of tea. Not only the cheapest fish and chips I've had but by far the most delicious. I normally expect to pay £5.95 for fish and chips alone without the extras and drink so I Would definitely go again and recommend to any one.

I went to eat here on the Saturday of the 40s festival. Although the place packed the service was excellent, A lovely young lady took my order and was very friendly. When the food arrived which was a cod special it was cooked perfect.

we have been here when the last owners had the place but service was not as good as previously ! we were told where to sit which i was not happy with its very dark at the back of the cafe and always sit near the front also we had to wait for our food quite a while then when we did get our food we felt we were rushed as our table was needed !! food was ok ish
