Really first class food and excellent service from Andrew, Joanna and the team. The freemasons strikes the right balance between excellent food but a pub type atmosphere. The overnight stay was excellent and the breakfast one of the best.

As my Father Christmas shape readily proves, I have had a good year dining out at the many excellent establishments that our Ribble Valley has to offer. However, our visit last week to The Freemasons at Wiswell crowned our year. A warm and effusive welcome from mine host, excellent wine list and a three course lunch that was sheer perfection. A starter of game terrine, followed by the most sensational and imaginative take on the traditional Christmas Turkey lunch with roast potatoes that words alone couldn't do justice to. (Made in heaven) points you in the right direction and with our gastric juices now in full flow they topped it off with a masterclass of a dessert. In a nutshell, attentive, ambience and professionally at the pinnacle of their game. Thank you. James M

The Freemasons has been one of our favourite restaurants over man years for 'Special Occasion' meals. The setting is lovely and the food has always been interesting. We were aware that the chef of 15 years left in August but the recent reviews on line have been very good so we booked for our pre Christmas trip. Unfortunately we were all disappointed with our meals and the prices charged. The presentation and cookery did not come up the the “Michelin plate”standards we have been used to. We did not complain at the time because we did not want to spoil our evening so we don't know whether this was just a bad night in the kitchen. I hope that this was indeed the case.

Excellent taster menu with alternatives to specific dislikes. Very attentive and pleasant service.

We went as a group, but surprised them when three additional Guest joined us for awhile at the table which they accommodated and also provided additional snacks and drinks without complaint. All the food was delicious and everything about the service was gracious and charming. Our designated driver was even provided with a half bottle of wine to try when he got home!

Rushed, ..soup super creamy, cod super salty Steak pudding realy good & chips fab Just so rushed....before they had chance to bring the wine the bread & nibbles where there , then 3 times tried to take the plates before we'd finished..in & out in an hour & 15 mins us not how we like it. Not the 1st time we've felt like this

Amazing and special place , outstanding in every department.

This was a first visit for myself and friend. It was a belated birthday lunch for my friend. Lovely atmosphere and friendly welcome. We chose the festive menu. It was very varied in choice, and we had different choices. From starters through to dessert, every mouthful was delicious . Very relaxed and a lovely experience .

No improvements needed, great food ,my Turkey was a bit tough , but I was able to eat my meal ,the front of house gentleman was welcoming and attentive as where all staff .

Love this venue! However, choosing a roast dinner option from the seasonal menu was a little disappointing…hate to say it. It just felt a little ordinary compared to other options. A learn for next time.

A fantastic lunch time experience at the Freemasons, my wife and I really enjoyed the 5 course Christmas menu, in particular the dessert - The food was exceptional tasting and great value and he service from all the staff was next level, a huge thank you to Andrew who also made our experience extra special...Thank you freemasons, hopefully see you again soon.

We celebrated my Grandsons second birthday today at the Freemasons and we couldn’t have not have wished for anything better. Andrew and crew were fantastic nothing was too much trouble including a little cake with candles for the birthday boy ! Food and service was top class as usual, you are a credit to your profession and I would give you a 5 star recommendation. Thanks to all. Paul Williams

Mix feelings about the meal. The service was good but everything felt very rushed. We were given snacks before we ordered, one was a pot of something and we didn’t know what it was and no one told us, then a very greasy Cronut and a cold croquette. Whilst trying to work out what everything was we were asked to order whilst also order and taste wine. Asked for five more minutes and then ordered but starters arrived so soon after. Mains came immediately after too. We were out for a birthday so wanted to make the most of the evening. Asked for a break before puddings but he put them through anyway and they came quickly after. Overall service was great though, great wine recommendations. The pate starter was like no pate I’d ever had, was more of a terrine with big chunks of fat. Apparently the ragu was great. Cod main was an amazing piece of fish cooked very well, also great comments on the turkey. But all very rich. Puddings were lovely. Overall a tough one to rate, some things just felt off.

After dining at The Freemasons today which was our first visit back since 2016 have to say it was just as I remembered & we where able to dine upstairs which was always my personal preference & have to say we had the most wonderful Sunday Lunch ever...so good ....delicious...a proper Sunday Lunch with some very tasty nibbles/apertisers we had not expected. Absolutely delicious & we will be visiting again soon I'm sure ....well done to all the team for making us feel so welcome & looked after today with just an amazing lunch 🙌

The menu was ambitious and enticing, but didn't really deliver on flavour, with some confused combinations. Food quite rich and not very well-balanced. I left disappointed. The Pendle Brewery's White Witch was on top form however, but there was no filter coffee and the Americano available isn't an acceptable substitute for me. Staff were attentive and willing to please. Pleasant country pub ambiance in a village setting. To me it felt like it was trying to be something grander than it actually is.

Outstanding evening meal. Took children for a 6pm early dinner as a treat for Mum’s birthday. One went for the kids menu and the other ate from the normal menu. All very full at the end and the staff were excellent throughout, nothing to really fault the evening. We will be back!

Back to it's best. I like to visit the Freemasons often and have done for a long time, the food has always been excellent. The last time I went in winter the taster menu seemed to have gone a bit too fancy. I'd also heard the long time chef had left so was interested to know how it had changed and I was pleased to see the hearty taster menu was back and as good as ever. Really enjoyed every course, the wine and the service!

The welcome was very warm, the surroundings were good and the service and food were excellent. It was very good value and we'll be back there soon. The only downside (and it's not the Freemason's fault) is parking is tricky.

For our first visit we were warmly welcomed by the host. The service was good the food very good, we ordered a starter that was sold out but the chef came out and offered us an alternative which was delicious. The wine list was extensive but we were offered tasting of lovely wine, one of which we chose, at a very reasonable price. Overall a great lunchtime experience and we will happily go again

We are frequent visitors to the Freemasons and have always had a 1st rate experience so I decided to take my colleagues there for a celebratory dinner. I'm not sure what's happened but the food although we'll presented was tasteless and bland. The steak for £50 simply lacked any flavour and the smoked salmon starter tasted of nothing. Some of our group also bemoaned the quality of the desserts which is disappointing given how good the food and service normally is. The service was slow although we didn't mind that, however the servers were incredibly young and had no knowledge when ee asked any questions relating to the menu or drinks queries. My rum and coke was brought with no ice and when queried the young man remarked he took a shot whether to add it and got it wrong.... I'm not sure if there has been a change of chef or management but the slickness of service and quality of food has sadly diminished from our many happy happy visits previously. Hopefully just an off night for the once great Freemasons

We visited for sunday lunch and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. We were seated upstairs which was very busy but with a lovely atmosphere. The food was exceptional, would highly recommend the sunday lunch menu. The staff were all lovely and the front of house, Andrew, was a great host - even providing a birthday card for me! We had a super Sunday lunch at the Freemasons today, there was a lovely ambience in the dining room, the food was absolutely delicious the service was fabulous, and our doggie was made most welcome. Would highly recommend this establishment, its just lovely.

As always at the Freemasons it’s quality, quality, quality in all aspects of the experience whether it’s a meal or a stay in one of their delightful rooms. Service is friendly and professional where you are made to feel welcome and special. The food is amazing and so delicious with great attention paid to flavour and presentation.

We had the 3 course lunch menu on a Friday. The food was excellent, from the amuse-bouche to the desserts which we struggled to finish. This is high end 'gastropub' dining and great value for money. Service was exceptional throughout, Andrew gave sound advice on the beers and recommended two very decent wines to pair with our main courses. Highly recommended.

Had the 3 course lunch and one of the best meals I’ve ever had. Andrew, Izzy and staff so welcoming which makes such a positive difference to your experience. Fab place. Would definitely recommend.

We had a lunchtime visit and after being warmly welcomed in a personable way - not a corporate trained way! we were shown to a table and our delightful experience began. We chose from the fixed price lunch menu and every single item we had was outstanding. Little snacks to start and warm home made bread which was actually more like a croissant - absolutely gorgeous. Starters were a visual feast as well as absolutely gorgeous. Main course was just as good and because everything so far was incredible we didn't dare miss out on the pudding despite being pretty full already! didn't regret it although my extended tummy did groan a little for a while. Honestly I love this place - can you tell - the food is just brilliant and such good value for the love, care and skill that so clearly goes into making and presenting. Front of house Andrew was charming and nothing seemed too much trouble - he even offered to walk me to the car with a brolly over us as the rain was pretty heavy when we left. Visit, you won't be disappointed if you like beautiful food and surroundings

Regrettably, the standard has dropped. We are repeat customers and our experience this time will probably be our last, unfortunately. The tasting menu is still offering summer, even though we dined on the 26th of September and my wife’s roast chicken had been sous vide, giving a unpleasant texture. Service levels were very warm, and I’m sure the new chef will hit their stride but it’s not what it was and for the price point, it’s not quite there.

Superb tasting menu made the celebration of our son's 21st birthday very special. The service was excellent and the bill cost less than we expected.

Mis-managed gluten free (coeliac) customer, first by serving unidentifiable beer, then combining GF bread roll with non GF roll stating “both gluten free”. Then admitted only one was. No confidence GF understood or respected by management, couldn’t risk being ‘poisoned’ by the menu, so left. It’s 2024.

Outstanding food and service in delightful surroundings

Went for drinks at midday on a sunday and nobody else in. Told we can sit anywhere, then the owner or host stood and spoke AT us for 5 minutes talking about himself when all we wanted was a quiet drink. 5 minutes later he came back and asked us to move as others had come in wanting that table, made us sit at bar while he seated the other group and didnt come bck for 5 minutes, pretty much finished our drinks by then. Absolutely ridiculous, unbelievably rude and obnoxious. 100% never return.

Nothing short of excellent, a dining experience beyond compare! We both opted for the tasting menu (highly recommended!), and were treated to 7 courses of gastronomy, from the ‘cruffin’ and ‘treats’ to start, through to the soup (wild mushroom), fish (salmon with gazpacho) and beef (sirloin, bbq cheek and tongue) courses finishing with pavlova and a chocolate ‘teacake’, every course was a delight to taste. The Freemasons is and rightly so a gastronomical venue worthy of at least one visit but you’ll definitely be back as we will be!

Just what you want on a late summer evening, a pint sat outside in the sun, and then a great meal put in front of you. The croquette’s were a fabulous amuse-bouche and then onto a delightfully light rabbit bolognaise and an equally light quiche. My wife’s chicken was exceptional and the beef pudding sat on a fantastic gravy and red cabbage, not exactly seasonal but nonetheless superb. You don’t often get this quality for the set menu price, worth every penny.

The food was amazing, the wine choice superb and the host Andrew was just a brilliant guy so friendly and welcoming. In fact all of the staff were lovely. As usual, a great experience at Freemasons. Food was exceptional and service excellent.

A Sunday lunch treat for one of Burnley’s finest OAPs. The menu was different to the sample menu online which can be tricky when there are a few changes to an already quite tight menu and potentially fussy diners. Wouldn’t it be possible to publish the actual menu a few days before? For starters we ordered a combo of salmon, lamb and fish/egg dish. Tasty. Whilst we’d waited we were served amuse-bouche of bon bons, beef dripping bread, and crackers with hummus. Then it was 3 roast beef’s served very pink and very tasty. Alongside each was a whole carrot, creamed cabbage, mash, couple of roasties, a slightly dry Yorkshire pudding and a rich tasty gravy of which there was not enough and we found it embarrassing they wanted to charge for extra! That’s penny pinching. Also there was a dish of cauliflower cheese for those who like their cauliflower that way. To end we had a combo of Black Forest gateau and a couple of burnt custards (that’s a thing not a mistake). Both very good. The ladies let themselves going with a waiter-led white Rioja. Service good and friendly. Just give us more gravy on the house!

The Freemasons has sustained excellence for some years now and we have never been disappointed. Excellent, beautifully presented food and a top-notch wine list. Attentive, efficient and friendly service too. We use the Freemasons for birthdays, anniversaries and special occasions as our night out treat. We always leave delighted. Highly recommended.

The food was extremely nice but in respect of portion size this was too small for the price. The amount of meat was insufficient, and the side dish of chips was necessary, not really a choice. I think at that price the chips should have been included within the overall cost. The total bill for 2 main course and desserts plus tip came to £140, which was grossly overpriced for the amount of food on the plates. We have enjoyed some very nice dining at several places in the Clitheroe area, all of which provided larger portions at less price. Overall, a case of style over substance.

The restaurant has a relaxed atmosphere. We had the celebration of summer menu, every course was excellent and prepared to a high standard. The service was prompt but not rushed, the staff friendly and professional. If you enjoy good food The Freemasons at Wiswell is definitely worth a visit.

Went for the early meal deal, great value. Lovely pub, great service, lovely food. Catered for our vegan/vege friend with separate menu. Busy on a lovely summer evening. Parking only on village road. Allowed us to swap desserts between meat and vege set menu to suit our preferences.

What a wonderful meal. "Snacks and cruffins" set the tone for taste. Each dish was superb. I had the steak pudding which was delicious 😋. Dessert black forest gateau. Yummy. I'm recommending it to anyone and everyone. Excellent service.

It was some time since our last visit so we were very much looking forward to our Sunday lunch. On arrival we were seated at our table and a small taster was brought and two breads with the butter. We were very confused as we had no side plates to put the bread on. Once we had finished another waitress arrived and set all the tables in the room with side plates. Our starters were very tasty and so were the deserts but the main course of roast beef was underwhelming with two tiny pieces of beef, overshadowed by a huge pile of mash potatoes and other accompaniments on the plate. The chicken main was under seasoned. At a price point not value for money. One final point some of the waiting staff were young girls wearing very short skirts. It is not appropriate to see underwear when they bend over the table to serve?
