Frankie & Benny's New York Italian Restaurant & Bar - Basildon in Basildon

Didn’t even get to try the food, stood at the door for about 15 minutes. No service to greet us or take us to our table. Tried again a couple weeks later and the same thing. Such a shame used to come here all the time, really gone down hill.

Great service, Lynette the manager was very friendly and accommodating, lovely food,we thoroughly enjoyed our food and ambience and music were great.

Popped in here tonight for dinner, after 5 minutes of waiting by the entrance door, the waitress came over and asked if we’d booked. We said no (as we had planned on going Wagamamas but the queue was massive), her manager came over, then shook his head when his staff member told him we were walk ins. He showed us to our tables, dumped the menus down and said enjoy your meal. My wife wanted to leave at that point but as we were already seated I said let’s stay and try it. We ordered a pizza, a Caesar salad and a bolognaise. The pizza was fairly decent (New York), but £13 for a chicken Caesar salad that I could have bought from Tesco for £3 is embarrassing. Also the bolognaise was very disappointing, some hard pasta, and a bland sauce to top it off. Don’t think we’ll bother returning. The waitress we had though was very friendly, attentive and polite.

Absolutely disgusted that in this day and age RACISM is still around and so blatantly being promoted. Me and my family and a friend (black Caribbean) arrived for a meal only to be left standing at the door for a good while. Staff (all white) walked up and down and looked at us and ignored us. Baring in mind I have a disability which is osteoarthritis and cannot stand for long periods of time also had just had a procedure at the doctors today was so was in discomfort. No staff member acknowledged us at all, no apology for being kept waiting and no reassurance that we would be seated ASAP. Eventually a staff member comes in our direction only to go to the table we were standing by near the door to go to take their bill payment then he walked off back in the other direction not even looking in our direction at all. We were so disgusted. He then left us there for another few minutes before coming over to say "yes hello" and we said "table for 4 please" and rudely said "OK this way" He showed us the table and slapped the menus down and walked off. We couldn't believe how rude and unwelcoming they were. We then witnessed some other customers (2 white girls) come in and get seated within seconds of coming in the door. After sitting for couple of minutes we had enough of being ignored so got up and walked out. They need to do serious staff training about basic customer service and equality and diversity training so they know how to be inclusive for all. Absolutely disgusting will never go there again. We ended up going to Nandos and had a lively meal with excellent customer service. Take note from Nandos Frankies, learn a thing or two.

Haven’t been here for a long time. Stopped around noon and were welcomed quick. Restaurant was very cold we were put down the back. Service was prompt and they were ok throughout just busy. Ordered burgers they arrived after 10mins all ok so far. Burgers and fries all fried and overcooked then realised we’d been given wrong food, after embarrassing swap full plate of more over cooked fried cooked. Probably one of the worst culinary experiences in ages. No one checked as they were busy. Felt really unwell in the afternoon. Also doors were left open at front and cold air blew in so I had to get up and close them.

I ordered a half rack of ribs only came with chips and corn on cob the ribs was cold . Very basic weather spoons is better you get more food and at least it’s hot . I was still hungry after my meal they asked if we wanted deserts after paying 17.50 for half of plate of food is disgusting . Why would I want desert when the meal was already cold

The staff here are so lovely you can’t fault them and amazing customer service. They definitely work hard there. Unfortunately the kitchen really did not try as hard as them. There were numerous problems with our food and had caused all 4 of us who ate there upset stomachs. This does not reflect on the staff, as they were lovely and so helpful, however if the kitchen lived up to their hospitality I’m sure it would have been better. It’s wrong to serve people unsafe food especially when we all have a big event today… now with upset stomachs and having had a restless night due to this. If it was for staff I’d rate them 5 stars! And the kitchen 1!

Get totally ignored and staff not happy n miserable - food came out first no drinks or cutlery - still waiting for them to take dessert order even when asked to order them !!! Waste of time don’t bother

We went out to eat on Valentine's Day, there was hair in one of the dishes and I returned it. When I finally asked for the bill, they brought us twice the amount of the bill. When I asked why, they answered that the system had been renewed, that's why, the correction was made again and we deducted the money for the dish with hair and paid the correct bill. My first and last meal was at this restaurant

Love the lunch menu, the portions were really good and the price was reasonable. Really friendly staff too.

Visited for a family birthday and we ordered a variety of mains including the meat pizza, calzone and pasta carbonara. The food was really bad quality. Carbonara was smothered in cream, rather than egg (authentic way) and caused upset stomach. The calzone wasn’t finished and the pizzq was akin to a frozen supermarket. Waitress was friendly but waited a good 20 mins for drinks to arrive (was a Sat night). Cookie dough desert was the saving grace (tasted nice)!

Me and my husband went for our baby girls 1st birthday lunch,told the waitress today is her birthday...but unfortunately we havent received anything form the staff like a tiny dessert or a fruit for her birthday .that was sad..said to the waitress I am not happy about that at all when paid the bill.

I’d like to comment on the attitude of the lady who greeted us and seated us. She was heavyset, had dark hair and was in her mid 30’s. She didn’t seem friendly as soon as we walked in and looked devastated. She was inattentive after we were seated and I raised my hand for her to get her attention so that we could order but she didn’t look this way and was stood in the corner with her friend and chatting away. Finally she saw me and came over all pissed off because she had to work and tried to say her friend should have come over but never mind she’s gonna have to deal with it now. She asked what starters we wanted and I said Mozarella sticks and potato skins and she snapped “What no drinks with your order?” And I said wait we’re just telling you our starters yet. She had no patience. When we ordered the drinks she never asked us whether we wanted ice or not and bought the drinks over which all had ice. Anyway, a really nice waitress named “Grace “ sorted us out . She was younger and had light brown hair and blue eyes. She was fantastic and made us feel really happy. She changed our drinks with no ice and served us with a smile and was super friendly especially towards my son who’s 8 years old. Grace was extremely excellent but the other lady who was heavyset and had dark hair was the complete opposite and should be nowhere near a customer facing role as she looked devastated to greet us and take our order.

I phoned up to book a table for 1 the girl on the phone said come on down we will be able to seat u I I go there and I got told I got to wait for 30 minutes very disappointed

Busy when we arrived, party of six, three of us going on to cinema. Table booked for 5.30. Four of party 15 mins late, but still an hour later, no food. Initially waitress very good, but when we pushed to ask how much longer , she became agitated. Food finally arrive hour and ten minutes after order, but all meals cold. Table next to us had similar issues as well as the one behind. We had two small children with us and initially ordered cheesy garlic bread which arrived quickly but main meals took so long after our order was placed. Offered new meals to be boxed and taken away. Not sure how this would possibly work, since a) three going on to cinema, b) food would be cold when it had been taken home. Evening ruined, despite us only being charged for drinks. It was not the money but the fact that a family dinner was ruined. Very disappointed would be very wary of f returning any time soon……

Great family meal, not very quick even thou, not busy.

We went on Friday at 1700 and we was told to wait til 1745 and we all went in and it started out great.until my boy asked for spaghetti bolognaise and got oval pasta but he said it was ok my eldest boy got a classic burger which he said was average and tasteless and when we finished dessert the waitress asked we would like anything else? And I asked for the bill she came and I paid also still leaving her a gratuity cause she was attentive.my eldest boy felt ill so I said to my wife to run him home whilst we finished our drinks . I then felt a hard tap on my shoulder were the front man booking people in said can you please leave the table and sit near the bar. I have two young children and said we haven’t finished but he insisted and that he supposedly did us a favour getting us our table of which we had to wait 45 mins for it and I should honour that . I told him that the whole experience was shattered because of his lack of customer skills were I believed they want your cash and then once bill squared up you had to leave were I’d never experienced this atrocious behaviour and we had to leave our drinks on the table just for the sake of him waiting 5-10 mins for us to finish and go but no total disrespect and disgraceful behaviour you should be ashamed and learn customer service better

My experience was very good , staff were excellent, polite and nice people .Atmosphere was great to pleasant venue and location. The food was average at best portions was small asked for my Sirloin was meant to be medium rare came out overdone ! . Really let the night down for me . Spent £108 in there for nothing special , I won’t be returning .

The manager is so so rude, won’t be going there again, absolutely shocking service, all the other staff was so polite and welcoming

ordered desserts on just eat, and i couldn't be more pleased. the BEST brownie i've ever had. we ordered quiet late at night, and unfortunately they had ran out of malteasers, but they left the loveliest note in the bag for us apologizing for the inconvenience. the dessert was warm, and well packaged!!

All staff members had smiles on their faces and were very welcoming and helpful. I wasn’t expecting the food to be as good as it was, every dish was delicious! Well done to the chefs! The starter of BBQ sticky chicken wings were heavenly! Even my 2 younger children were loving them and they don’t normally eat chicken wings. I will definitely order these again. 3 of us had the tagliatelle carbonara and we all really enjoyed it. My son had the double bacon cheeseburger which was huge and he liked it. I ordered a side salad and I really enjoyed that as the dressing was nice and I like how they put cherry tomatoes, red onions and cucumber in it so it wasn’t boring like most restaurants side salads. The apple crumble with custard and ice cream was the perfect ending to a superb meal.

Honestly, I don’t usually write reviews, but on this occasion I had to make an exception. I ordered their big breakfast and also the beef brisket hash and it was honestly the worst food I have ever had. It tasted like I was eating the contents of an ashtray where menthol cigarettes had been smoked. Not only were numerous components missing from the big breakfast that I paid extra for, but what was there was awful. The sausages tasted minty and the croquettes were god awful. The eggs, beans and additional bacon was missing and the bacon I did have looked like it was cooked on a radiator, never again, the worst breakfast I’ve ever had and I only managed to eat about a quarter of it. Just moved into the area and was excited to try Frankie and Benny’s as haven’t seen one in decades, what a mistake. I cannot emphasise this enough - IT WAS HORRIBLE! AND LITERALLY TASTED LIKE THE DREGS OF AN ASHTRAY WITH SOME RANDOM MINT FLAVOUR THROWN IN, SORT IT OUT FFS.

The food was edible , presented with no effort , it was like school canteen food. For the price of £17 for burger and chips I expected a decent experience lol. wish I’d gone to McDonald’s . The waiter gave off vibes he just didn’t want to be there . Overall the high prices and the quality of food do not match . I would not eat there again , very disappointed . It used to be so much better . I’d swerve if I was you .👎🏻

Birthday dinner late in the day great meal

Food was really tasty and the expresso martini was the best I have tasted. Atmosphere was Ok but when they cranked up the volume of the music we had to lean across the table to hear each other. That wasn't needed.

Overpriced re heated slop served by very nice (if a tad embarressed) staff. The meatball pasta was 18 quid (looked like a tin of dog food mixed with tagliatelle). Wish we'd gone to nandos

Once upon a time Frankie and bennies was a nice chilled American Italian diner with a great ambience, dim lighting and a bit of dean martin playing in the back ground. A lot of time has passed…. This latest visit was very disappointing. Venue is now far too bright, it’s like being in a club at kick out time when they turn all the lights up to remind you to leave, the music was some pop nonsense the whole character has been washed away as they try to compete with TGI which they’re not achieving. Front of house chap seemed very miserable. Potato skins were not potato skins they were small jacket potatoes cut in half over full of potato, bland and heavy, the main course chicken and halloumi burger and a lasagne were ok, but nothing I couldn’t knock up at home cheaply. Service was slow but friendly the staff seemed to be doing everything, we watched the same member of staff serving at the bar, rush in around changing bins, taking orders and fetching food. Won’t be going back, no identity and bland food with slow service. Waitresses were nice tho, that’s the only positive I could find.

I’m leaving my review here as I can’t find anything for stacks but I just ordered a burger that is over cooked and dry and it wouldn’t bother me as much if I got the sauce which was supposed to be Barbecue and mayo but I had asked for no mayo but they gave me no barbecue as well. Driest burger I’ve ever eaten

Very nice, we took my grandson there, who is vegetarian and 9 years of age. Plenty of choice for him. Food nice and hot. Although they were short staffed and there was a very awkward family next to us, the waitress was efficient, kept smiling and courteous. We tipped accordingly, she deserved every penny. This was the Basildon, festival leisure park restaurant.

Shown to table, waited for someone to serve us, after 20 minutes we hadn't even been asked if we wanted any drinks. Staff standing around talking. When I asked if anyone was going to serve us because we had waited a while I was rudely told you can leave if you want to, so that's what we did and will definitely not be returning.

We had a good experience at this Frankie and Benny's. The food was delicious with generous portion sizes. The customer service was also very good. Bit on the pricey side but a good dining out experience. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Cheap food, cheap service, no draught beer, AGAIN, no more chances. Will not be going there again. Only went this time because it was my great grandaughters birthday and she wanted to go for the desert.

Amazing service here today! We had a miscommunication about the food linked to an allergy requirement, but our waitress and the supervisor here were so helpful, understanding and apologetic. Thank you so much for the discount , although we didn’t expect it, we really appreciate it. :) And also Chloe please don’t feel bad, these things happen so please don’t worry about it!!

Reasonably large portions of averafe food. Spare rib sauce a bit too sweet for me. slightly slow service but on average an average experience!

What a lovely evening! Service was amazing as usual, wish i could remember our servers name as she was wonderful. Food came out quickly and was as good as always. Will be back again and maybe we'll find room for dessert next time.

The draught beer was off the bottled beer was tepid. The food was absolutely terrible very bland the bolognaise was like it came out of a tin. The loaded potato skins were like powder the cheese was rubbery and the ribs were 2 say the least large but no flavour whatsoever. The sharing platter onion rings were oily the garlic bread was bread with butter parsley. The only thing that was ok was the chicken strips. We paid £57.60 for absolute rubbish never again

The main concern about Frankie and Bennys is the service, no matter what branch I have visited they are all the same , the food is nice shame about the service.

I meet my father here often for a drink, and sometimes food, staff are always chatty, polite and friendly... Well, it's worth a visit.

Great venu for my daughters 7th birthday dinner, they made a huge fuss of her.

We got sat and given dirty menus. Then we ordered our food and two refills to which the manager at the time relied in a sarcastic manner of what. You could here cooks laughing and shouting things to each other the whole time. We finished drinks and starters and got left with empty glasses and plates. We then got the plates taken away after looking at the waitress numerous times when we was the only table in the restaurant!! Then our food was done and every one ignored the fact it was there for a good 10 mins and decided to chat over the counter instead, was obviously more important ! Service was absolutely appalling never have I felt so ignored. The only time we felt acknowledged was when paying the bill the waitress was very full on then and waited around to make sure we wasn’t giving a tip. The food was nice but the service was not worth it whatsoever

We arrived at Premier Inn after a six hour drive to find the restaurant shut so walked five mins and found Frankie and Bennys open and willing to serve us a bottle of wine and a meal for us both and our six year old. (10pm) The service was excellent… our first server (unsure of name) gave us colouring sheets which kept our son happy for the duration and when we asked for ice brought us a jug.. it’s the little things which make such a huge difference! Aimee then took over and was brilliant…. Taking time out to make conversation, bring extra colouring sheets over for Zac , bringing desserts when they were about to close. Faultless service all round. The food was hot, extremely tasty and big portions and the cheesecake was delicious. It’s a while since I’ve been to a Frankie and Bennys and we will be back.. although probably in Manchester! Thank you all at Festival Park x

When we last visited over a year ago , the service and staff were atrocious, today though it was lovely, the staff were fab and food was really nice, will definitely go back.

Food was amazing. I had the Bolognaise, the cocktails were also very delicious. I recommend the Cherry Cuba and the Popcorn Old Fashioned, full of sweet flavours. Our Host Dawn was amazing and very polite. Would eat here again. Thank you very much.

A fantastic spot of dinner with starters, mains and everything was cooked brilliantly, Garlic Pizza Bread with Cheese was hot and tasty, Pot skins were crispy, full of flavour and the Calzone (a fav when it was on the main menu) cooked brilliantly and brushed...

Feel awful none of us had any notes or change on us to leave a tip but server Chloe was lovely. Service was fast and food was amazing. All fancies a Frankie and bennies on the way back from Thorpe park.. drove all the way to Basildon just to get one. It did not disappoint!

Starter was good, but pizza not

Visited as a large family group of 12 of us for my nephews 21st Birthday on bank holiday Monday. Service was OK, food average at best. I had the chicken and halloumi burger with the 'upgraded' loaded lava fries. The fries had their skins on, but the vegan cheese sauce they had on them was a weird taste and texture. The burger was edible, but nothing special and I couldn't taste the halloumi. The biggest letdown was the dessert. I opted for the 'classic tiramisu', which was really bland, had a very light texture, and had hardly any coffee taste! Considering Frankie & Benny's are meant to serve delicious Italian-American inspired dishes the tiramisu was probably the worst one I've had in any restaurant. Overall, a disappointing experience and won't be returning anytime soon 😫

Great atmosphere and friendly staff, food was excellent and lots on the plate , cocktails was great .

More of a modern feel then other Frankie's and bennys I've previously been too, was was delicious . Had lasagne, which was piping hot!' had the bbq banquet platter main meal and they was delicious! Mac and cheese was very custardy consistency but all the other food was beautiful! Bbq chicken wings where meaty and perfectly cooked. Was out of some of the beers we wanted but was replaced with Camden beer which was tasty. Would recommend to all lovers of Italian food. And p.s do not sit near the door if you feel cold. Constantly opening and closing. But otherwise staff friendly and food quick for coming out.

Decent food wife really liked the vegetarian burger. Service was great the young lady was super attentive and made sure we were looked after.

Do not every get deserts from them for delivery! First of all their descriptions on their Biscoff waffles are wrong! They state they are Biscoff and cream they do not mention they come with banana at all! Secondly the staff here are rude! Not helpful...

Great food and staff were pleasant

Brilliant. We arrived to our reservation table with a high chair and kids drawing utilities ready for us. Been here a few times but never fails to amaze me how delicious the food is. Vegetarian & Vegan options are available for a lot of the dishes on the menu, perfect for anyone with those dietary requirements. Would've left a review months ago but the main reason I'm doing it today is: Melinda. She was our waitress for the evening and she was absolutely phenomenal! Super friendly, warm, catering and quick. Atmosphere nice as per usual and service excellent. Definitely recommend this exact branch!

Hubby fancied somewhere different, his 1st visit and he was very happy food was amazing, full of flavour and freshly cooked. Staff friendly and not pushy full marks

I have to say I was so disappointed with my steak meal here my mushrooms were microwaved and shrivelled up my jacket potato was cold so very disappointed me and my partner will not be going back 😩

Orderd delivery . Driver got lost and could not find us. We have had previous deliveries without issue . Unfotunately the food arrived cold( not all) Sent back pizza to be replaced, no replacement has been received . The phone was not being answered and the message states no facilities to leave a message ! Disappointing

Great place for group and or family celebration

The food and atmosphere was excellent. Service was just a little bit too slow for my liking but other than that, I couldn't fault my evening.

The staff looked tired, and it all seemed a chore. The pump was down for the beer, the pasta dish was dry, and my jacket potato was not very good. It seemed the menu, and some drinks had changed, and was not the value and service it had been.

Table 57 tonight at 6pm Table service was very poor One meal hardly ate but no questions asked as to why food was left Amy served us too

Friendly staff and always lovely food

Was very busy and seemed understaffed, took a while to get our food order taken, although our waitress was brilliant. Food was amazing, hats off to the chef's. Music was fairly loud and so were other customers so wouldn't advise anyone with autism etc to visit.

Very poor service. Unclean tables repeated request for cutlery, burgers hard, dirty plates, aggressively served and way over priced.

A nice restaurant to take the kids

The lady that served us shouldn't have gotten out of bed, I don't know if it was a bad day for her but she got nothing right on the order and attitude to match, as I say don't know if it was a bad day or she always like that.

Had to wait a long time for our table even though we had a reservation. Items on the menu were not available, including steak and potato skins. The food was disappointing. My son burger was even burnt. Staff was rushed off their feet so as a result, didn't seem very friendly or helpful. There was no nut free desert as it was my son’s birthday, and he was not able to have a treat due to his allergy

Food was OK, service from our waiter was great, chef did all he could to go in speed, yet there was only 1 waiter 1 chef for online orders and in shop orders and I can tell you it was well busy considering I know this kind of job because I work with retail. 1hour and 7 minutes later our starter came and then an other hour later our main came. I will let you decide the rest. I genuinely feel sorry for this 2 staff members. As the 3rd one was just taking delivery orders to the side delivery door and hugging and chatting to delivery man the whole time. Never again!
