Franco's in Tendring

Sadly to say this is supposedly one of the best restaurants in Clacton is very misleading, my starter wasn’t available and then when my main came the veg was over cooked and the mash potato was lumpy and a horrible colour and very poorly presented, upon closer inspection around the restaurant there was lots of flys around and it is looking like it’s a little run down, when an elderly gentleman entered the restaurant the staff pounced on him and then kept sitting with him on his table before he could even order food, it made me wonder if I was eating in a “adult” venue the way they were pouncing on him

Fabulous meal. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend

No vegan options, only vegetarian was pasta or salad!! Husband had chicken in parchuto with mash both over salted!! Vegetables over cooked. I had to have prawns and asked for a salad which was just green leaves, one baby tomato and one slice of cucumber!! Total waste of money!!!

We really enjoyed our meal, my daughter who is a vegetarian loved her Parmigano Aubergine and she is very picky about her aubergines, For myself I had the seafood linguine, and I can honestly say it was the best one I have ever had, an abundance of seafood in it and the sauce was divine. My husband had the Seabream and he was impressed with it. The presentation of the food superb. The cocktails were expertly shaken and not stirred! We are going back this Sunday. I wished we lived near Clacton so we could come here more often.

Excellent staff and very relaxed, and the food was fantastic. We all had steak of various types and they were all perfectly cooked. Very very relaxed atmosphere and just a lovely experience. We will definitely go back. The talented chef came out several times to check all was good, and we felt looked after. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for.

We were guests at Franco's in Clacton for the first time in June 2023. The food was outstanding, but the waiter far exceeded the food. We have never experienced such fantastic service. The young man was absolutely world class in every aspect of his entire demeanor. This year we wanted to enjoy it all again, but we were bitterly disappointed. As soon as we entered the restaurant we noticed that all the tables were obviously set with unironed sheets that were pulled crooked and crooked over the tables. The waitress, a young woman, wandered around the restaurant rather listlessly and it was clear that she had no qualities for this job. She wore her extra-long hair down, which we think is quite unappetizing. She was inattentive, cleared our plates at different times and, although she had already served coffee, left the small gravy boat on our table with a smeared edge of dark sauce. She only noticed this when she shuffled past our table for the third time. I would like to mention that there was only one customer in the restaurant other than us, and she sat and chatted with her while we ate. The menu consisted of well over 90% fish dishes, so I chose chicken fillet with pasta. The meat tasted like pork, I found the noodles to be inappropriate with the meat, but the sauce the noodles were in was super tasty. The pasta itself was in the water for too long, I cook it better. We found the bill to be unreasonably high. We won't be coming back and won't recommend it.

Franco's finally had a new owner from Napoli and a vision to bring fine dining at affordable prices to Clacton. He has only just started on this journey, so it needs time but finally there will be a place we can all enjoy exquisite cuisine prepared with love

Choice of beef or lamb. That was the menu. Dried up rubbish. Although frequented for years and excellent now worse restaurant in town probably. Lots of foreign people in kitchen and I wonder if being bought again but for as Indian restaurant. Got to be better than we got. plus expensive No menu.no go again

I visited Francos for a very special 90th birthday celebration for my mother. I had been there several times over the past years and always enjoyed exceptional food and service but this was my first time under new ownership. I could not have been more disappointed. Firstly, the restaurant was very cold and had no ambience whatsoever. I always had a Bellini before lunch in the past - this was now unavailable. The waitress was sadly lacking in experience. She didn’t know what the soup of the day was. At what is supposed to be the foremost quality restaurant in Clacton, I don’t expect myself and female guests of senior ages to be addressed as ‘darling’ or ‘guys’. The service was extremely slow even though only there was only one table of two diners apart from us. Only 50% of their main courses available even though it was their first day open for the week so you’d expect they’d have already had a delivery of provisions to start the weeks catering. We all ordered lamb shank. Only then to be told they only had one portion. Which they then overcooked. I decided on the liver - which was extremely overcooked and inedible. I had pre ordered a small birthday cake. I was shocked when this arrived and it was shop bought from Morrisons. And to add insult to injury, I was even charged for it! Had it been home made, I wouldn’t have minded a small charge but in any case, I should have been notified in advance that the cake was to be shop bought and I would be charged. In which case, I would have declined in favour of home made desserts. On the plus side and to be fair in this review, I was not charged for the liver and the table had been decorated with birthday balloons, banner and stars. Overall, unfortunately Francos is now in my top 10 of worst restaurant experiences and I will never return.

Absolutely amazing food. It's nice of the chef to come and have a chat at the tables. Waitresses are friendly and helpful all in all a great night

Service was brilliant I cannot fault the girls. It was a bit of a worry arriving prime time Saturday night and we were the 2nd table to be seated. Food was awful. Not the service girls fault, at all. They are all lovely. Chef needs to take responsibility the fish was from frozen, the steak wasnt able to be cooked how requested. It's not really fair on the service because that cannot be contested it's such a shame they don't have an adequate chef

I was told that this was a lovely authentic Italian restaurant, far from it, the options of fresh Italian dishes were almost non existent, sub standard service and toilets looked like they hadn't been cleaned for months, very grim. My Pinot was nice however, needs improvement if we are to return.

My daughter and son in law, invited us along with them to give Franco's a try as she had heard good reports about it since it had fairly née ownership. Got to say, everything about today's experience was brilliant, from the initial walking into a very happy, friendly welcoming, the restaurant itself was impeccably clean and spacious. And nothing was too much for them.. The Sunday roasts we all had were perfect portion sizes, And credit due the roast potatoes were lush definitely home cooked, not deep fried like a lot of places, and got to.say the best gravy I've ever had. What's really nice is for a Sunday, you can also have anything on the normal menu, so.not limited to Roast.. Good thinking on their behalf. Great choice of desserts all very scrummy, And good size portions yet again.. Will definitely be going back here in the not to distant future.. Highly Recommended

We Went as a family of 6 here for Sunday dinner and cannot recommend it enough . Sunday roast was amazing. Between us we had 3 different meats and all were outstanding. deserts were also amazing which is the only part i got a picture of as the roast was to good I forgot to take a picture of of it lol 😂. The service was amazing from all staff , especially from the lovely waitress who was fantastic she was so accommodating to everyone's needs especially the little one and went above and beyond in all aspects of service. highly recommended and will definitely be returning.

The many positive reviews are misleading. The ownership changed around the pandemic and a lot of the good reviews on Tripadvisor is in reference to the old ownership. Franco no longer works here - the only reference to him his the name. We went last week. The service is OK and the wine selection and quality was pretty good, however, the food was horrendous. The pasta was so overcooked and the sauce was weak in flavour. It was a huge portion of mushy tasteless food. Really appalled by the food quality. Will not be coming back anytime soon (hire an Italian chef or at least someone who knows what “Al dente” means!).

We had a delicious lunch at Franco's which is one of our favourite Italian restaurants. Chef Sebastian was more than accommodating to serve up our different choices. I had pork loin chops, my husband had the pasta our fellow diners had white bait starters and veal. Northing was too much trouble for Alice our waitress who was spot on. Will definitely be back! Highly recommend

Unbelievable place, first time dining here. The servers were amazing, super friendly and helpful :) the food was heavenlyyyy, I wish I could eat here every day. Vast menu with many specials on offer, and they all sound so good 🤤 The location is beautiful, inside and out, especially when the sun sets, can't wait to be here in the summer. Would absolutely recommend, lovely place :) 💛

Came in as a family for mother's day, first time in in over 3 years, must say was disappointed with the quality of the food and service. Used to be regular guests when Franco was there but sadly this is Franco's is name only and living off past reputation, limited options and availability, standards of the toilets were absolutely shocking, they looked like they hadn't been cleaned in days. There's a lot of work to do here and I hope there can be some major improvements before we considering returning.

Staying in Clacton on Sea for work purposes. Happened to look online for somewhere to eat for the evening and came across this place. All the reviews were good and they weren't wrong!! We arrived as they opened on Wednesday evening at 6pm (hadn't booked). We were welcomed and seated and decided what to order. Veal Milanese with sauteed potatoes & vegetables instead of spaghetti, moules marinere. Absolutely delicious, there was a really nice creamy sauce that came with the veal, too. We had no starters, as we knew that the mains would be soo filling. The staff were brilliant and attentive. Everything was lovely, not many places like this anymore. Would we go again, yes Do we recommend it, yes You will not be disappointed.... Thank you Franco's, for a wonderful evening...

Beautiful place wonderful food had a bit of a wait between courses but that's ok food came out delicious and hot Mark & Jacki Dean & Kelly. Enjoyable evening will go back

We visited Franco's Restaurant on a Sunday. Upon arrival we were made extremely welcome and then taken to a table for lunch. The Restaurant appears to be clean and tidy and we found the atmosphere really relaxing. We were served by a member of their waiting staff and they were polite and helpful. We ordered a Lamb and Beef roast, we waited a little while but it was worth the wait. The roast was absolutely lovely and both Lamb and the Beef were perfectly cooked and with lots of flavour. The portions were more than adequate, we also received extra Yorkshire puddings,this was a nice touch and they were certainly consumed. I would certainly recommend Franco's as a food destination, and we felt the prices were really value for money. Try it.

We made a booking at Franco's Restaurant for a Sunday Lunch. We arrived at the Restaurant and were greeted by the Restaurant service manager and warmly welcomed. We were then shown to the table and seated, Shortly after we were shown the special boards for the day and pleasantly surprised by the selection that was on offer. We both decided that we would try the Lamb and Beef roast that was being served. The waiting staff took our order and listened carefully as to what we wanted to order. We also asked for a suitable red wine to match the meals that we had both ordered, we were pleasantly surprised by the wine that we had and was worth listening to the recommendation. After a little while we recieved our meals, they were one of the nicest roasts we have had in long time and really full of flavour and with generous portions, we also received extra Yorkshire puddings. We found the atmosphere in the restaurant relaxing and calm and very pleasant, certainly a restaurant that we would recommend, We will definitely book to return.

We were two couples, and we hadn't been here since it was the original Francos, and we wondered what it would be like now under new ownership. We shouldn't have worried. The food was excellent. Everything was very well presented, well cooked, plentiful and really tasty. Fillet steaks were fantastic and cooked as we wanted. On top of that, the staff were exceptionally attentive, friendly, and helpful. The menu isn't as extensive as it was under Franco, but there was still plenty to choose from, and the choices were varied from pasta, fish, grill dishes. We will definitely return.

We had an absolutely amazing meal. The food was excellent really tasty, from mussels to steak and my favourite biscof cheesecake, I couldn't fault anything. All the staff gave great service with a smile and were lovely and friendly to talk to. I would highly recommend Francos. Thanks to all the staff for making our date night away from our children extra special.

This is my first time posting on Trip Advisor, it’s that poor, I can't ignore!! Attended Franco’s on Valentine’s Day 2023 at 2030hrs and was totally disappointed. We had been seated and waited around 30 minutes for a drinks order. During this time we had a waitress come to our table with 2 different drinks orders for other tables. As the service had been incredibly slow we had decided to order drinks and the set menu as this was the only choice available and was not informed of this when booking. It took around 1 and a half hours for our starter to be served and we had not had any other quality service during this period on upon eating the starter. Mains had been served 2 hours after seating, we firstly were given another tables order and it was myself and my partner and the other table who was meant to be served these dishes that realised before the staff did. For one of our mains, we asked for one steak to be medium rare and was served well done, asked for this to be returned and waited 15 minutes however did not wish to wait another second so asked for what we had eaten in the bill and left. The service was so poor and there was no management in sight or being displayed by the staff. No one asked if the food was ok nor asked if we wanted anymore drinks, baring in mind our wine glasses were empty for an hour and we were drinking water, we did not have an opportunity to ask as no one came to our table. Other guests had been complaining and received very similar service. Overheard the chefs arguing with the waitresses over food order and ran out of desserts. We were not willing to stay another hour for desert which wasn’t ready or available. Left and paid for 2 starters and one main as the time it took to replace the over cooked dish was far too long and it was 22:30hrs. Extremely disappointed with every aspect of our experience.

Booked on a Sunday as was my daughters 21st birthday and she specifically wanted Italian food. Was told on the phone that they closed at 5p.m and last orders were 3p.m so could we come in then. Arrived on the day to an empty restaurant, there were two other diners that were leaving as we arrived. Some kind of in house meeting was happening at one of the other tables. It felt awkward but we sat and ordered drinks and the waitress informed us of the specials and told us roasts were also available. We were all looking forward to traditional pasta dishes so waited for a menu to be brought over. The waitress came over and asked what we woukd like. Confused we said we hadn't seen a menu yet. She explained that the only choices were either roast beef or pork or rack of lamb, or the specials on the board which were a salmon dish a soup or mussels. Two of us had the salmon, one had roast pork and one had rack of lamb. The food itself was OK, the vegetables were quite under done and my daughter said some of her sautéed potatoes were soggy. We didn't stay for dessert as we got the impression they wanted us to go so they could close. All in all was a bit disappointed. If we had been told there was a limited menu on a Sunday I wouldn't have booked and would have gone elsewhere as we had been told great things about their Italian food and that is why we went there. The food was also a little overpriced for what it was and the service and atmosphere was lacking. Wish we had gone somewhere else and probably won't be back especially on a Sunday.

Me & Hubby visited Franco’s restaurant for a dinner date on the 10th of Feb 2024. The food was just OUTSTANDING!! - Great new head Chef with a fabulous new team. They all work so well together, especially within a super fast paced environment. The waitresses are attentive & greet you with a warm welcome. They look great and are a dream team. I am so pleased to see the restaurant was buzzing & booked up. (With the phones still ringing for bookings!) - Keep winning & we will see you again soon. Aysha & Gary xx

What a suburb meal, came out for a long awaited date night with the wife, the staff was friendly and very welcoming, the food was fantastic, Can’t wait to visit again.

Went today for lunch never been to the restaurant ever and I was amazed the food was unbelievable and so was the servicedefinitely going again i had king prawns for starter and my wife had a prawn cocktail i have never seen so many prawns on a prawn cocktail before like that and they wereunbelievably tasty we also had some free bread as wellthen I had my main course I had a spaghetti mix in it I had mussels spaghetti and clams and calamari and squid rings and king prawns with a lovely sauce and it was massive came it came in a big oven dish and it was unbeliveablemy wife had lamb rack with mash and her own big plate of vegetables as well she said it was unbeliveable for desert she had a butterscotch cheesecake and a scoop of butterscotch ice cream and I had three scoops of icecream butterscotch strawberry andvanilla and both tasted unbeliveable definelaty going again gave a five pound tip because the food was worth it.we also had three drinks and it came to just over hundred pounds but what a meal keep it up fantastic.

Heard about Francos doing roasts on Sunday lunch from Facebook so decided to give them a go and I’m glad we did. Food was excellent, service was good and I’d highly recommend people go along and support this local business in their quest to give locals another location to enjoy your Sunday roast. A choice of meats all at £16:95 and you certainly wouldn’t leave feeling hungry.

Wasn’t expecting to find this in Clacton. A great Italian restaurant, food and service fantastic and in true Italian portions!! Wide selection of wines as well as other drinks. Great value for money too. Best I’ve had in Clacton for years.

Great place for seafood dishes. Very generous on the serving size. The seabass I had was superb, crispy outside and soft inside. The dessert was lovely end to a delicious lunch.

This is one of the best places to go to eat a fantastic restaurant with your wonderful family. The food was up to my expectations and this was one of the best places to go if you want a social worker to treat you. The environment was the best atmosphere. One of the staff in this glamorous restaurant was called Paul. He was very friendly and he is also sociable. Overall, 5 star.

Difficult to rate the food. My ham melon and mussels were ok infact the ham was very good. The steaks were not to the point my daughter refused to eat hers sent it back. To be fair they didnt charge for it. Carbonara were passable. Soup good. Disappointed as had hoped for better and was a special occassion. Waitress tried her best..but was new with no help. We had to keep asking for things I even got our sideplates from other tables. Had heard good reports admiringly a couple of years or so back now. Lunch menu was a bit limited not sure if more available evenings.

I celebrated my birthday with a large group of family and friends at Franco’s (18 people) they went above and beyond for us from decorating the table to opening up the restaurant early to accommodate us. The food was fantastic the best I've had in clacton would highly recommend 😊

F A B U L O U S... We had a wonderful evening here, staff were perfect, there when needed but didn't over serve if you know what I mean. The Forestiere mushroom on garlic bruschetta was so tasty, then the Veal Milanese the best I've ever had, my partner had T bone steak (Available to order in advance) he said it was the best steak ever. Bottle of Primitivo, delicious.

Wandering around Clacton in a sea of fish and chips we found Francos. The interior was nice and clean and it was quiet so settled in for lunch. Was a bit pricey at around 20 per main and the specials more but we were on holiday so what the hell. I ordered a seafood spaghetti as starter and duck for the main. They were helpful with allergies and service was good. The food was great though the seafood spaghetti was a main course for me but fantastic. Was good to eat some veg for the first time in days and all well presented. They were able to cope with a gluten allergy and it was all good.

2nd time here after a long gap. Not particularly cheap, but the food is excellent and smiling service tops it off. Well worth a look

Best skate wing I have ever tasted - cooked to perfection as was all the food we had! It’s a 45 minute drive for us but there isn’t a better fish restaurant closer so is worth the drive. We’re looking forward to going again soon :) Highly recommended!

Our wedding anniversary meal was excellent, Paul recommended the skate wing with lemon butter and capers - delicious and reasonably priced.

My Dad, his wife, my brother, nan and I visited here for my Nan's birthday meal. The service was outstanding. The chef came out and spoke to us. The food was amazing, very tasty and generous portions. We'll worth the money and will definitely visit again soon

My sister and I booked this restaurant for our mother on Mothers Day. The staff were exceptionally polite and helpful and the food was superb. We had a set menu for the occasion but there was a choice of 4 dishes for each of the 3 courses. It was definitely excellent value for money and we will without doubt dine there again. Thank you to all the staff for making our Mothers Day very special.

Food let it down. Over priced I mean really overpriced steak 35 pounds small portions. Food quality not very good.

I went to Francis some time before.. But thinking it was as enjoyable as before I was mistaken.. the food was something from a road side cafe but westend prices. a complete an utterly wast.. the waiter informed us as we sat at the table ready to order 15 minutes later told us lamb was off the salmon was sold out as it was busy but we where the first there .. such a shame kabab next time

My 70th birthday bash . Lovely service . My meal was delicious . I had the beef , which melted in my mouth . Tasty sauce, too . All the vegetables were fresh . Everything was piping hot . I should have asked for my beef rare, but too good to complain about . Would love to return and try other dishes .

Been a while since I've been here, pre-covid. Was looking forward to a lovely meal, and was not disappointed. Food was excellent, and the customer service was fantastic. Still my favourite special occasion restaurant.

What a disappointment for an Italian restaurant I was in a rush to book somewhere and they had space? Having eaten there I can see why. I and my friends had possibly the worst meal had ever had out, my duck was tasteless and certainly not medium rare. My Wifes fish was also overcooked and rubbery. My friends chicken was also dried out and if it wasn't for the sauce they would have struggled. no we get to the next bit and you may question this, we ate it because we had no time to go elsewhere. We spoke to the cook afterwords to explain and try to get a discount due the quality of the meal, he said we ate and wouldn't, we had an augment and I'm banned. I really wished I'd looked at more reviews before we went, ps the horror of the mens toilets! also this is the first time I have ever written a bad review so please don't think i'm in the habit of trying to get discounts but i did tell him I was going to give him this review and i have left it a week to think about it.

The sample specials menu didn't really represent the available dishes. No oysters, no scallops, no lobster, no dover sole, no turbot. I know its only a sample but I left disappointed.

We came here to have a nice meal after being at the Pier. The service was great from the moment we entered. We had the Whole Seabass, the Hot Meat Balls, and the Spinach Parcels. It was all lovely. The seabass was perfectly done. A great place to come for good food and excellent service.

Absolutely delicious food!! Wonderful, friendly staff!

幾天前去嘗過，我們想吃的海鮮都沒有🥺朋友介绍讚好吃的麵包沾醋，麵包只是普通的包，醋不知是否特制，有些過甜，只可以勉強给10分。頭盆，椒鹽鮮魷，太少器了，细细的圈。那些 軟殼蟹也是小小的。海鮮拼盤意粉，盤子是很大內容很少，海鲜也沒有甚麽特別高级，青口佔了60%🙄👎👎

Really sad, used to love this restaurant but today they got our order wrong despite only 1 table of 4 in restaurant price was really expensive would not go back.

Lovely food, had salmon on white wine and cream sauce, sister and niece had fillet steaks..lots of mixed veg and the portions were huge.c

Staff seem to be pleasant and helpful but had 2 issues there of which I did not expect to be resolved based on the circumstances. Hot pot nearly burnt my fingers, no notice or warning given to the customer, also asked for a well cooked lamb, and come out pink on the inside. Overall below the bar considering the cost of eating in the place. So I’ve had a reply from owner telling me I ordered medium rare. After spending almost £30 on a dish I’m pretty sure I requested the lamb to be well done! Buy the way your staff did not warn me of the plate being hot. Please stop covering up with your lies!
