Charnallies Restaurant & Bar in Tendring

First time visit (from Suffolk) and was very happy with the experience. Nice and Roomy to sit in. The tables are nicely spaced apart . Very good service. Great to have happy and courteous table service. Very prompt too and food was well presented and tasty. We would definitely come again if in the area.

We visited 29th April 2024, it was good to see a seperate vegan menu. Food was tasty and good value. Served by Helen who was friendly and helpful

We visited on a Saturday evening and had a very enjoyable meal, prices were reasonable the food tasted great and the service was excellent despite the place being packed, I would highly recommend using this restaurant as they cater for all ages and group sizes

I ordered a margarita and a chicken Caesar salad. The margarita was amazing, but the salad was appalling! It was not a proper Caesar salad by any means. I got a salad that consisted of shredded iceberg lettuce, tomato’s, a few croutons, and very little dressing! They need to learn what a Caesar salad actually is! Romaine lettuce, croutons, Caesar dressing and Parmesan cheese. No tomatoes! It’s really not that difficult. Very disappointing. Not to mention it cost £13.95

Lovely food, very accommodating, quick and friendly service. Our waitress Bailey was lovely and couldn't have been more helpful.

Had a great evening in here. 7 of us, 3 eating, 4 just drinks and absolutely no problem with that. 2 burgers and 1 macaroni cheese, all very nicely presented, lovely flavour, not too long a wait either. The cocktails were lovely - I can highly recommend the After Eight! prices were good. We had a lovely waitress, very attentive and friendly. We enjoyed the evening so much that 3 of us booked in for brunch the following day - we had the same waitress which was really nice. The eat all you can brunch at jut £6 per person was great. one platter with 2 of everything and then you can just ask for extra items and they are brought to you. a much better idea than piling plates sky high and ending up with wasted food and it also meant that everything was hot and fresh. I would definitely go back again if I'm in Clacton.

We went to Charnallies recently for my mum's birthday and I honestly can't thank them enough for everything they did. They were so welcoming and helpful. Then when it was time for birthday cake they brought it out and sang happy birthday. The food was amazing and such great prices. I'd also like to say they have a great vegetarian selection. Thank you all at Charnallies, you're all amazing! :)

Called in prior to a show at the Westcliff, lured in by a discount with our tickets! Waitress Emily, very welcoming and cheerful. Once we had ordered, didn't have to wait long at all. Food obviously freshly prepared and piping hot, (Not the salad though!) A very nice feed for not a lot of money. Very pleasant experience.

My son and I eat here a lot and every time the food and service has been spot on. Nothing is ever too much for the amazing staff - the interaction with them and my little one is amazing and he absolutely loves it! We’ve also been to their children events - most lately Meet Santa last Christmas; the gift he was hand given by Santa was perfect for his age and really amazing considering his ticket was only £10 and that included a huge breakfast! Charnallies will always be our number one choice when going out for food.

I booked a table for 4 for the 8th March as it was my friends big 50th birthday 🎂. I took balloons 🎈 in before and the lovely ladies set up the table for me. We all had the lunch menu 3 courses for £14.50 the food was lovely, tasty and hot 🔥!! We are hoping to go back in April for another birthday 🥳 . Thank you all for a lovely visit. 5***** all the way.

They must of changed chef the food tasted nice when we went in the summer , we went three days ago expecting the same quality, I ordered fish and chips with peas, no mushy peas and the peas were hard and no taste the fish was tasteless no flavour at all the chips were ok, the homemade tartar sauce was vingery was nice at all won't be eating there again will choose somewhere else also I ordered a starter it came at the same time as my main meal so my main meal was warm when I got to eat it not good , the drinks are good and seating ,plenty of room has we had a wheelchair has well but food not good tho

I had been here a few years back, and on a visit recently to Clacton, we decided to pop in for some dinner. The milkshakes swayed most of our decision! Upon entering, we were warmly greeted and shown a table, the service was excellent throughout. We ordered reasonably quickly, with the kids opting for children's meals. Milkshakes were very nice (my son really enjoyed the mint chocolate one), food was OK... kids meals particularly didn't taste as good (my sons burger was no where near as tasty as mine - he didn't like it, and I tried it and didn't seem to compare to the one I had? The other young un had pizza, she ate most of it, but said mine were better, lol!). Adult meals much better thankfully. The service was so good that we were convinced in to having a desert, and I went old school and got a banana split. It was wonderful! A good experience, and the service from the staff sold it in my opinion... I was impressed. The only other comment was that there was a big smell of cooking oil whilst we were there, you sort of got used to it whilst in there but not as nice when I could still smell it on my clothes when at home later! Will likely visit again, even if its just for some milkshakes and Banana splits!!

Had a lovely meal, the service and atmosphere was wonderful and the food was top notch. Very happy with the menu choices, the vegan options were plentiful and delicious. Will definitely be going back.

Saturday evening. The food was nice but overpriced. We were sat by the front door, so everyone that came through left the door open, it started to get a bit chilly. I spent more time getting up and dow to close the door. The restaurant stank of fried chips. My hair, clothes reeked of fried food. And also my coat which cannot be washed, so ended up spending almost £20 on amazon on deodorisers and clothes freshner when i got home.

We went for the breakfast brunch which is perfectly valued, the food was excellent, however as we walked in, there was a cloud of cooking smoke around the restaurant, which made our clothes smell of cooking oil after leaving.

We came here on Sunday evening for a family meal. The restaurant was nice and warm which was inviting on the cold and windy evening in which we visited. Our waitress was very kind and very accommodating for my family especially for my very fussy 5 year old son. Our meals did get a bit mixed when brought up however this was quickly rectified and dealt with. Food came out very quickly and was delicious and we all had a lovely evening. We will be back soon

Our server was lovely. Didnt catch her name. Food was lovely and hot. Only downside is that I had e mailed asking about special occasions and was told they would put banners and balloons up for a birthday, we walked in to nothing. Then there was mean to be a candle in dessert and happy birthday played but none of this was done either. Quite upset over it I didn't bring it up. The main reason we went there and had dessert was because I wanted the fuss made of my husband but there was none. I would have went somewhere else. If it wasn't for our server it would have been a total waste.

We have been going to Charnallies for over 15 years and always get great service and food. We recently visited for the bottomless pizza and would definitely recommend it. We managed to get through 9 slices with various toppings. It's all you can eat for £16. It's worth a visit! Would also recommend their breakfast platter at the weekends too.

Staff were exceptionally polite and friendly. Drinks and food were served within a very prompt time. The burgers were amazing, as was the coleslaw and fries. Definitely coming back to this a wonderful establishment.

Came in for lunch with family after a busy day in Clacton. The restaurant has a very ‘Frankie and Bennys’ kinda vibe, but with their own take on American/Italian food, which we liked. I had potato skins and a chicken burger, both of which were absolutely brilliant. The waitress was very polite and helpful in any adjustments we made for allergens and preferences, and everything was brought out in a timely manner. Would definitely recommend!

We went for the brunch platter only to be told weekend's only. This was not stated in the local gazette write up recommending it. Instead we had sausage and "creamy mash" more like gloop lunch menu very restricted pudding was a stale waffle with a blob of ice cream no hot puddings available on set menu and i couldn't have one of the other menu. Coffee was luke warm and bitter cafe latte. All in all very disappointing would not recommend also in my dictionary brunch is between 10am and at least 2pm can't even get that right.

Large comfortable American style restaurant. Food okay, licensed. Good Kids menu. Well behaved dogs allowed in bar area. Close to Clacton Pier, amusements, and town centre shops. Outside covered seating. No parking outside.

Their breakfast/ brunch,for £5,£6,now I think 🤔 that we had last Christmas was superb,freshly cooked and plenty of it,would recommend to anyone,

Food was nice, services was friendly but the noise from a machine behind the bar really spoiled the atmosphere. You couldn’t talk to your friends or hear yourself think.

Burgers and pizzas looked alright, kids meals looked alright. Ceasar salad was absolutely diabolical. Not even a handful of lettuce, with a few scattersed bits of chopped tomato.. arrived with no croutons OR parmesan! Which cost nearly £8!!! And then an EXTRA £4.50 for some chicken which definitely was not fresh. The waitress brought out parmesan (not fresh more like the cheap Italian cheese powder stuff) and "crispy" croutons (stale garlic bread) after questioning why they were absent from the dish. I questioned wether this was a normal size portion as I wouldn't have even paid £1 for it to be fair, and definitely cost less than 50p to make.. but another member of the party paid whilst i was using the toilet. I would recommend not ordering or if the chefs are incapable of making a decent salad to completely take them off the menu. Felt sorry for the very polite and kind young waitress and can imagine food complaints are fairly regular here. Not worth the money or waiting time.

Had a 'wiseguy waffle' and a drink. Lovely atmosphere. Very friendly and accommodating staff. I have twins and they moved tables to fit our double pram in next to our table. We will definitely come back 🙂

Just went in there this lunchtime with a mate, and the guy who took us to the table was very moody. Ask him is anyone service? He was very negative and said someone would be over, the place was empty. We gave up waiting and walked out. First time in there and the last time!

Decent food, reasonably priced, good location and service. Would reccomend!

Although food and service was great I was charged twice on my bank statement. One for full price plus extra transaction for £5.60. I only used card machine once. NOW RESOLVED. Cafe also owns kiosk outside which I did not know and we used it.

Ate there for two days. Had nice food both days.

Had a meal here for me and my daughter, food was very quick and lovely. Service was perfect. My daughter had a steak which was cooked how she exactly wanted it, I had also had a chicken salad which was lovely. To top it off we had one of the cookie dessert to share which was amazing. Defiantly will be returning soon.

Came here with my dad after the airshow and had a great experience food was nice shout out to our waitress Hayley who was really nice and polite and made sure we had everything we needed other staff really friendly as well.

Really friendly and helpful staff. Food was very tasty with a wide variety on the menu. As a wheelchair user, the venue is accessible and easy to manoeuvre around. Highly recommend.

Whenever we go on a day trip to Clacton, we always eat here. It's an American styled diner with prints on the wall of iconic figures of Hollywood. Food's very good - and they have a gluten free menu - ideal for coeliacs like me. Excellent value and friendly staff.

This was my first time a Charnallies and it had a great atmosphere, the waitress was excellent and the food was hot and well presented. We had a very pleasant evening. I hope to be back again soon.

Had a birthday lunch with 11 people including kids. Not only was the food super for the price, but the service was second to non. Nothing was too much trouble

We've come here everyday of our holiday for dinner as it's amazing! The food is delicious, the service is amazing and the staff are just superb! Really good value for money as portion sizes are perfect. My children are quite fussy eaters but they cleared their plates each time. My only complaint is that you don't have a restaurant closer to my home 😭 Thank you for excellent service and divine food ❤️

Wait time to be served, wait time after ordering, greasy food, server reached over my shoulder while I was eating to grab a plate, I really wasn't impressed overall. The kids' meals were great value, but adults' choices for the quality of food are very overpriced. I appreciate that I was asked if everything was okay, and we said yes, but I wasn't keen on going over all this in person. I just won't return again and wish I had read the reviews already on here first...

The service was decent but rather slow, wouldn’t recommend the nachos, they weren’t nice unfortunately. It was poorly lit and the atmosphere was lacking

This place is AMAZING . Normal menu, gluten free menu ( full size ) and the other side vegan. The options are the best( recommend the gf garlic bread ) With home made sauces for the gf and vegan dishes is again a huge result . And all at a great price . And more to add - supply gf cakes and also the milkshakes are gluten free and when asked if they were they checked many times to make sure that it was suitable. ( the only thing I would say if they could put gf on the milkshake board easier for us and for you ) Starter , main and dessert. This place thrives of alternatives and you should be proud. Thank you for making my experience brilliant

Had a lovely meal here by chance as they accepted dogs. The food was lovely and the background music was excellent! All staff very friendly - if we are ever in Clacton again would definitely go again!

If you are anywhere near here you have to go,.the burgers are very good but so is everything else..the breakfast £6 per person platter ,Saturday and Sundays...and it unlimited and its really nice . The chocolate milkshakes are the best I've ever had..cocktails also 2 for £10 and made very nice .the staff are fantastic 👏 kids meals also great £6 for meal drink and dessert.

Brunch served with bacon, eggs, sausages, hash browns, fried tomato baked beans and toast at only £6 per person with extras on request no extra charge!! Great value for a sit down mid morning feed.

Nice and Snug in the winter with lots of things to find on the menu for any length of stay while in Clacton, been a few times a little while ago and have found all stuff to have a successful time each night, helpful waitresses and useful for being in the town centre too.

This place is the best American themed restaurant in the UK. Staff are so friendly

Food was REALLY disappointing and the service even worse. Went there with 5 friends. Was very noisy with birthday celebrations and tables not well positioned for such big groups of people. Never again.

Visited for the first time yesterday, was greeted by a lovely waitress named Skip. Skip was attentive, friendly and couldn't do enough to make sure you had the best experience. The food was fantastic, really yummy and very reasonable in price. Restaurant was clean and comfortable - couldn't fault it and would return again.
