Foxy's in The Vale of Glamorgan

Thought that heading in to the Deli I would walk away with fresh, larger sizes value for money sandwich. Instead what I got was a thin small size. I don’t mind paying £5 for a sandwich if worth it. Disappointing.

I try to pop in to Foxy’s whenever I can. Unfortunately as I live a good few miles away, I don’t visit as often as I’d like, but yesterday we decided to make a special trip just to have a spot of lunch, and as ever, we weren’t disappointed. The food was lovely, including the very tempting cakes that we had to have after we’d ate our very tasty and filling chorizo and lentil stew. The staff are a delight, friendly and always customer focussed. We just can’t get enough of this place. I’ve seen some ‘reviews’ on here with complaints about the place. Some people spend too much time complaining simply because it makes them feel good, it requires minimal risk, and it’s easy. Lighten up and you may enjoy lovely places like Foxy’s a whole lot more.

Food was fresh good portions. Tea was lovely with fresh honey.warm atmosphere very attentive staff .clean and a great selection of food from Cardiff...

My experience at Foxy’s was poor to say at the least. Unfortunately, I will not be returning after lunch with my friends turned into total shambles. The food was presented lovely. However, the food was cold upon arrival, the customer service was poor and the overall cleanliness of this place was poor (sticky grimy tables, employees not washing their hands) the menu selection was a positive, and had a range of products to offer. Looking at similar reviews, it is apparent that there have been excuses made for wrong doings which I believe is unprofessional and should be acted upon.

Good quality, good choice, good value, friendly staff. What's not to like? Bacon, egg, tomatoes, avacado on sour dough was delicious, as was the breakfast omelette. Caters for non-gluten.

Lovely little deli/cafe in Penarth. We called in for a breakfast and did a small 'create your own' where you can have 4 items for £5.95. They had a few different items like Glamorgan sausage and tasty little fritters. All the staff were lovely and service was very good. We would definitely have this as a regular haunt if we lived local.

On arrival we we told no hot food as the oven was broken. We decided to have the last piece of quiche between us which came with salad and coleslaw and 2 pots of tea total £15.00 Nice tea average quiche. Need more staff queue at the till was long and slow.

I visited today for a late lunch with my friend who lives in Penarth. We both had a delicious meal accompanied by a lovely bottle of wine. I had the feta and spinach dish with pea and mint fritters and my friend the burger from the specials board. We scoffed the lot! Clean plates all round. The service from the owner was lovely as always along with her staff. We'll be back soon. Thanks again x

Dreadful service. First i was overcharged by £22.50. Told there was a wait of20-25 minutes. 45 minutes later after chasing food arrived and our order was wrong. Told it was manic today. If they can’t cope with the covers in the restaurant they should not take the orders. Wont be going there again. With 3 young children 45 minutes is a lifetime

The food arrived quickly and was piping hot. The quality was good but the toast needs improving, it was also served in this grubby little bamboo bowl that was chipped and cracked and seen better days. The staff were friendly and efficient, but the restaurant area looked dirty and not very inviting. I would not rush to return.

I was born and brought up in Penarth many decades ago and have been a regular visitor to the town for fifty years. Why has it taken me so long to find Foxy's? It is brilliant! In extraordinary contrast to Robynswanepoe88's experience, my family and I had lunch there a few weeks ago and we all absolutely loved it - from the moment we walked in until the moment we left. The atmosphere was as warm and friendly as you would expect in South Wales and the food was exactly as billed and wonderfully delicious. But the standout characteristic was the service. It was brilliant - friendly, efficient and very amusing. Foxy's is a gem with exemplary staff. Highly recommended.

Called in for a pot of tea I was served a nice pot of tea but the milk was served in a filthy jar the tables were grimy with worn varnish and the windows were smeared with dirt

Whilst working in Penarth we called into Foxy's Deli on the recommendation of a local. From then on joined them almost every day for breakfast. Thanks to Sian and the team for creating a great atmosphere, lovely service and tasty home cooked food. We always felt welcome and well catered for really sorry to leave.The covid restrictions were managed well.

Been to this widely stocked deli twice in two weeks. Great staff, esp Ella, who curated my low carb/no sugar Wife an off menu smorgasbord. Great COVID precautions, clean toilets, fab outdoor seating, reasonable prices. Best food venue in South Cardiff/The Vale. Needs to open on the weekend, evenings in my view too

Our first return to Foxys as Covid restrictions are lifted. Outside seating has been upgraded to a lovely 3 sided sun and wind break- it creates a safe and cosy place to eat.The menu is huge and varied and has a great choice of standard stuff as well as good veggie and vegan options .Staff are friendly and helpful.we had breakfast sat in the sunshine and it was an absolute delight! Full cooked breakfast, veggie breakfast and the full vegan option. All were perfect - a lovely spot for lovely food . Good coffee too.Will definitely return.

Popped into get a (good) coffee on an easter trail and staff member kindly gave our children a small easter egg as they could see they were flagging too. Thank you.

My daughter very kindly sent me a hamper from Foxy's as a birthday present . The lady who delivered it was absolutely charming , the food was delicious and the presentation was lovely . I have noticed the deli before , but it hasn't been open at the times I have been passing . I will certainly be visiting as soon as is allowed . My daughter also reports they were extremely helpful when she placed the order .Brightened up my lockdown

Visits to Foxy's started as a guilty pleasure, to sample the cakes and excellent range of local produce. Once they started delivering we took full advantage and haven't ever been disappointed. The staff are very friendly and always take the time to chat.

Sian and all the staff at Foxy’s have provided an invaluable local service during the pandemic and multiple lockdowns. They have delivered lovely home made fresh produce throughout and have the freshest eggs and best bacon I’ve ever tasted as well as great vegetarian and vegan products. Diolch

If only I had read these reviewers before going to this cafe to pick up a coffee... I am appalled. I was greeted by a moody middle aged lady who seemed pre occupied and frankly not bothered to take my order. As I approached the counter to place the order the lady said “yes” - no hi what can I get you / how are you etc. I ordered a caffe latte and an Americano for my friend and dear me... the coffee was so diluted it tasted like cat wee. Really disappointing not sure if there was a problem with the machine or whatever but it was just not right. To the owner: I see you attack those that leave unfavourable reviews, I kindly ask you to refrain from doing so.

Stopped by for a coffee as I had been recommended to pay this place a visit. I can’t comment on the food or the drinks I didn’t get that far.I walked in with my family, I was told to take a seat and someone would come and take an order...nobody bothered. Shop was empty and we were the only ones in the top section along with a member of staff making hampers.When we finally gave up and left we had a very friendly goodbye!Lack of any customer service or acknowledgement was extremely disappointing, I won’t be returning and I will find another local business that is glad of the custom.

If you'd like a Welsh twist on a great British classic savoury then you must try Foxy's Welsh Crumpets! Two crumpets topped with lave bread, bacon and sautéed mushrooms crowned with two perfectly fried eggs with a garnish of fresh tomatoes make this a great breakfast, brunch or any time meal. Foxy's chef invented the novel treat so recently that some of the old menus didn't include it, so ask if it doesn't appear on yours - you'll be very glad you did.

Had a delicious afternoon tea delivered as a super surprise from a friend. Delivered with lovely card, vintage crockery and delicious treats.

Came across this lovely cafe/deli while in Penarth for the day. The display of freshly made food was outstanding!!!! I was with my elderly mother for an early Mother’s Day treat, and yes it was a treat !!! Beautiful home made Glamorgan sausages, to die for and a fab coffee. Would definitely visit again !

We chose our meals from the daily specials board. I had an excellent vegetarian bubble and squeak with fried egg. My sister chose the same with bacon and my aunt had corned beef hash. All very tasty. Also bought some chocolate from their great range of food and drink for sale. Definitely returning here!

Just been to this wonderful deli today with my friend..the food was so tasty..the place was clean..great selection of food and very affordable..im a vegetarian and they had a good choice...very helpful staff...a must visit....

As a European, this is one of the rare places in the UK where I could find British cuisine that I truly enjoyed. An unpretentious little deli that wants to serve good food- and does! I have been several times and never got disappointed. Yes, the chef is a bit frosty at times but from getting to know him a bit I know that he really cares about the quality of his food! That is how it should be! Wish more places would be like this in the UK.

I have just returned from living abroad for a few years and this was my first port of call.So So So pleased Foxys is still here and better than ever - I always used to order Ham and scrambled eggs on a bagel with balsamic tomatoes when I lived here and although no longer on the menu, they were happy to make for me - Deliciuos.We are so lucky in Penarth to have so many great little cafes but this has always been my favourite.

Terrible food _ had to send all food back because it was cold. Then just microwaved, so crispy pie crust became a soggy mass. Also cold fried eggs and beans. No offer to redo food and no offer of reduced price. No atmosphere. Cold damp conservatory. Won’t be going there again!

Every birthday and Christmas I take my friend for Afternoon Tea. This year Foxy's Deli was recommended to me. From the minute I called to make the booking, explaining that it was for a birthday treat and that my friend is a bit of a fussy eater who happens to LOVE Fishfinger Sandwiches, the whole experience became fun. The lady thought that was wonderfully different and made a note for us to choose our sandwich filling on the day. My friend arrived a little ahead of me and was shown to a lovely window seat and made to feel totally at home. When I arrived I was greeted with excited giggles and we did infact have a fishfinger sandwich afternoon tea, followed by coffee and walnut cake - the crockery was cute, the food was perfect and I went home with a haul of home-made goods for my family - will definitely return and have already been recommending to other friends - a perfect couple of hours - Thank You Foxy's Deli :-)

Just had a really lovely brunch in a charming deli which also sells zero waste products! They even think of putting a few empty jars in case you’ve forgotten your own to buy pasta, different types of beans, or couscous for example to use to cook with at home. Loved the mushroom and halloumi burger with beetroot, sweet potato chips and a side salad. So perfect and a lovely morning with the family! Thank you so much!

What an amazing place! Staff were lovely, food was great and the cakes were even better a deli keeping up with the times and doing there bit to cut down on plastic waste by having refilling sections for spices etc. So fab to see a small business doing its bit to help the planet. Had nice chats with the staff and will definitely visit again next time I'm in the area!

I came here while doing a course at the glass design shop over the road and had a lovely baguette. The staff were friendly, and they also sell a range of cheeses and pickles.

Visited with my daughter one Saturday lunchtime. Good, varied menu and the food is great even managing to make a baked potato with cheese and beans much better than average. Decent iced coffee and they even sell my favourite Snowdonia Cheese range. Definitely return.

An wide ranging choice of food on the menu with Specials offered daily and at good prices. I had Welsh crumpet brunch today which included rarebit , lava bread and a fried egg on top - gorgeous. Americana coffee was spot on and service was friendly and efficient, All in all, a really enjoyable lunch

Menu much bigger than expected, food fresh and exceptionally cooked. Lovely atmosphere for Christmas as well. Staff friendly and clean inside. Cakes and coffee after meal a very nice finish. Will be coming back - recommend highly.

I visited this café with my mum for a coffee and a drink. Even though there were quite a few people already in there, our drinks arrived to us relatively quickly. Also, the café looks smaller on the outside than it is inside as there are plenty of tables up a few stairs leading to the back. However, the only thing I would criticise is that there isn’t a wide range of cold drinks to choose from. Overall, we had a cheap drink and a nice welcoming!

Visited last week with in laws and children and our dog :we were all looked after very well ,our dog Barney was given turkey , the kids had their own menu and the staff were so understanding to all our various allergies , this can be demanding when we go out together ,we will be returning

16 of us booked for a 3 course Christmas lunch- absolutely amazing - so much food and all home cooked and delicious - home made Pate to start followed by traditional turkey dinner with all the trimmings - Christmas pud !

My husband was given this afternoon tea as a birthday present. I booked a table for 3.00 last Saturday October 20th. We were shown to a table and one of the servers told us there was only ham and cheese sandwiches as they'd been busy. These arrived with a small pot of pickle, pretty basic. We waited but nobody attended to us so I asked if we would be having cakes, we were told the usual cakes had all gone so we just had Welsh cakes and as a token gesture ONE cupcake. The scones arrived with jam and butter, I asked where the cream was, to be told they'd run out of that too! Don't take a booking if you can't provide! Service was appalling and I must say the worst afternoon tea we've ever had. Such a shame as it was a gift.

I arrived there today at 1:45pm. It was a late lunch and the cafe did not seem to have the lunch rush hour. I was not told how long the wait was so I ordered lunch and a pot of tea. Tea arrived in few minutes. It was 2:25 PM and no lunch and the tea had already gone cold. I went to the desk and pointed out that I have been waiting for over 30 minutes for food. They apologies and said it will be few minutes. 2:30pm and still no sign of food. Someone comes and asks me "are you waiting for something?" and I said yes I've been waiting for 40 min now for my food. He said "sorry, it has been busy and we had a few tickets!" I could not for a second believe him because after I got there people were already leaving after eating their food. Also a couple who arrived much later than I did got their food delivered in 10 minutes. Finally, few minutes later food arrives (2:35pm). The waiter did not even ask "shall I change your tea?" or "do you want any thing else?". He brought the food and left. I had my first bite and it was cold! The food must have been sitting in the kitchen waiting for the waiter to pick up and take to the customer. If I could give a minus score I would have.

Was taken here as a 30th birthday afternoon tea by a friend who purchased of groupon. Not only was it faulse advertising as the picture is nothing like what you get. Sandwiches chucked on plate ham or cheese thats it could of made that at home tasted no different. 1 welsh cake a mouthfull of bara brith and 1 scone that is from a packet and not fresh then toasted to warm. Tiny pot of jam a cream and had to ask for more. Plates and cups look tired and worn. Feel rushed staff dont leave you alone in piece to eat they want to take the sandwich stand to bring cake stand. Just leave it all there and leave us in piece .

First time to this establishment and it was great 👍🏻 We enjoyed afternoon tea and will be back. Lovely, homely feel to the place and staff were great

I visited yesterday with my kids and elderly Mum and was really happy with my experience. The girl working was so friendly and catered for all of our needs (young children and wheelchair), she was chatty with the kids and made us feel very welcome despite it being busy. The coffee was so good and the cakes were delicious!! Not from Penarth but would definitely come again!

Came here a while ago and it was good. This time was disappointing. The table and chair were covered in food debris and I had to brush it odd with a tissue, my cup was dirty (replaced without a word of apology), food residue on cutlery ( replaced with another with food residue on the knife) but with an apology. I could understand it if they were busy but we appeared to be the only customers there at the time and the two members of staff were just chatting. Such a pity.

When I visited they had a great range of puddings/cakes. I had a brownie which was delicious but other members of my family had other deserts and highly recommended them as well. They also catered for a party we held recently and the guests were in awe of the wonderful food! Would highly recommend this cafe, wonderful food and friendly staff.

I stopped for a drink and a bite to eat at 2:30 on a Tuesday, the cafe had three customers and the two serving staff were chatting behind the counter. The upper seating area had been caudened off with a couple of chairs. That was fine, I wanted to sit in the window, however the only table left available was still covered in the last customers crockery. Now call me what you will but having been in the service industry, surely as the cafe had two staff twiddling their thumbs, to clean a used table in rediness for the next customer was fundamental,, isn't it? I chose not to order food and my hot chocolate arrived after a few minutes. The staff member then cleared my table, thank you.. The chocolate was very nice but I left hungry.

The staff and the tea/food was lovely. We had a comfy and happy stay and will be back soon! Really recommended this place.

This place has the best prawn soup EVER!!!! It's also really friendly and pleasant to sit in with local artworks on the walls, lovely staff, a selection of food you can buy as gifts and great lunches and somewhere I'll come back to!. Try the lamb samosas - absolutely delicious!!

Took time out this morning to find another place to work. Staff were helpful and my scrambled egg went down a treat, realised I had been sitting there for hours without any pressure to move even though they were busy. Thanks Foxy's will come again. Nice place and well fed and good atmosphere.

We met another couple and visited the premises on a Saturday lunchtime. First visit. It was not busy. We ordered sandwiches, tuna melts and chips. Our hot drinks were served , but we waited over 45 minutes for our food. No warning of the delay....

Had a lovely experience at Foxy's Deli today. Went for my wife's birthday using a Groupon voucher and it was excellent. Fantastic quality afternoon tea and even better service from the staff. Even sung my wife happy birthday. Highly recommend a visit to this deli

10 out of 10 for customer service but breakfast was very poor . Teapots and milk jug were stained , the general keep of the place is mismatched and grubby. Shame really because customer service is good

I was doing a course at Glass by Design and they sent us over to Foxy's for lunch. Loved the Humus and roasted pepper Sarnie! I will definitely come here again now I have discovered it.

We enjoyed a traditional afternoon tea at Foxy’s today - freshly made sandwiches (particularly delicious cheddar!) and a wonderful selection of cakes. The carrot, pineapple & rum cake was amazing! I loved the vintage crockery and must mention our lovely waitress, Sarah, who was excellent too - diolch o galon pawb!

A Groupon offer took my wife and myself out for breakfast at 'Foxy's' yesterday where we enjoyed what I would call 'My perfect breakfast'. Everything was fresh, and well presented. The egg was soft and the bacon was thick and lean oh, and I do like real mushrooms and tomato, rather than tinned. With tea served in china cups and, from a tea pot which was replenished without our having to ask, it will not take us long to return. It was a lovely sunny morning and our experience in this homely, and friendly, establishment was a great start to our day. We would urge all locals - or,anyone in town - to give it a try. Even without a Groupon, nobody could surely be disappointed ? The Fox offers excellent value, is very reasonable, and deserves a pat on the head !

Organised a baby shower at foxys for around 30 people. We had the place to ourselves for 2 hours for £10pp.

Found the deal on Groupon with 20% off so ended up with afternoon tea for 2 for £12.80.. lovely little deli/cafe. Staff couldn't be more attentive and offer more than what's on the plate. Sandwiches were perfect Pembrokeshire ham and Snowdonia cheese (which we are big fans of and stock up at Xmas from their stall at Bath Xmas market) mustard and pickle also accompanied the sandwiches.. plenty of Welsh tea too and we had a top up..Welsh cakes, barra bryth and warm scones with clotted cream and jam to follow. Would definitely return even for lunch as looking on the menu the prices are reasonable.

Friendly staff, and bilingual - very important for some of us oldies. Great choice of interesting salads Will be going again.

Visited Foxy's Deli with my family for lunch was very warm welcome as I opened the door with happy smiley staff they offered a menu and a place to sit, was so impressed by the food and all the beautiful cake also everything that they had on Deli display I felt I wanted to eat it all, the menu had a wide variety of food to choose from even had an all day breakfast on offer, afternoon tea and also had a separate delicious specials menu to offer us.

Purchased a groupon voucher for our brother and sister in laws Christmas present for afternoon tea. Looked a nice quaint cafe but disappointed to find the table had been set with dirty cups and cutlery wrapped in dirty serviettes First impressions not good. It was a shame because the food was nice and the service was ok. The toilets weren'the very clean. On the whole it won'the be a place we could recommend and won'the visit again.

Bought a groupon afternoon tea to visit here, am not local so had no idea what to expect. What a charming place, the staff are so welcoming & friendly - nothing is too much!! The afternoon tea was delicious and they kept asking if we required anymore tea or sandwiches! With locally sourced ingredients too was very yummy and highly recommend! We will be returning for sure!!

We come here every Christmas to buy hampers for our family - perfect gifts . This year foxysdeli was busier than ever which was lovely to see . Despite bring so hectic , the owner was so helpful I'm helping us chose products and took time to wrap them too - she also provided us with free coffee while waited - great service thanks again

Visited today to use my high tea voucher for 2. Very impressed with quality of food, very good value for money. We had yummy ham and cheese sandwiches with mustard and pickles on side, then we had warm tea cakes, Welsh cakes and bara brith!! There was so much food we couldn't finding everything. Very friendly staff. Will definitely visit again and try their other food!

I previously reviewed this little café as being excellent because our first experience certainly was. Because of this, two of us decided to return alone for some lunch. Unfortunately the difference between visits was drastic. We sat down near the back of the café and just ordered two simple sandwiches and two drinks. The wait for the food was absolutely astronomical - about 55 minutes for sandwiches in a reasonably quiet cafe isnt OK. There was about 3 other tables with people at them but the rest of the the upstairs area was empty with a couple of people downstairs. The people sat around us were being apologised to for wait times, food order mix ups, items not being available etc so we know it wasn't just us but it was really not good. When the sandwiches arrived they were not worth the wait at all. They were toasted and filled with dry ingredients and so were so dry that we could barely eat them and alot of food was left. Despite this, we knew we'd really enjoyed the tea and cakes on our previous afternoon tea visit and they're already made so we decided to order one each because we knew there wouldn't be a wait for them. So I approached the counter, politely got the owners attention to order tea and cakes.. And simply got my bill presented to me and a card machine slammed down. I was really shocked as she was so kind and accommodating previously but her attitude towards me upset me so much that we paid and left without ordering anything else. I did not feel confident enough to talk to her about our grievances as her manner towards me told me that she wouldn't want to know. So disappointed as we thought we found our new favourite lunch spot.

Great breakfast and quality coffee. There are also toys for little ones so very family friendly. Would definitely recommend.

We arrived early but we were greeted warmly by the owner Sian - aka Mrs Foxy. The food and service and friendliness of the staff was excellent. Plenty of sandwiches for us both one being vegetarian which I had informed them of. Excellent variety of cakes. Cafe sort of oldy worldly but I loved the ambience and enjoyed our afternoon tea very much. Would recommend! No negatives from me.

Foxy's Deli is now more cafe than deli but none the worse for that. I'm not a huge fan of Starbucks Costa etc you need to check the menu to know where you are. I know it's a formula that works for the internationals but thank goodness for independent shops like this that provide colour and variety in a corporate world. Good quality coffee and you must try the cakes.

Foxy's is a cafe/delicatessen situated close to Penarth Railway station; they have a good breakfast/brunch menu with an Allergen Key covering Cereals, Crustaceans, Eggs, Fish, Peanuts, Soybeans, Milk, Nuts, Celery, Mustard, Sesame, Sulphur Dioxide, and Molluscs! The staff are very friendly and attentive, the food is good- my only criticism would be I see no read to garnish poached eggs on toast with a balsamic based sauce and raw tomato! However both the eggs and toast were exceptionally good!
