Quality has really declined, salt beef with so little filling (for a 9.5 bagel) and squash with almost no date sauce, basically just squach, both bagels dry hard, either old or overcooked. Won't be back soon.

Montreal bagels are dense, thin, & chewy. NY bagels are puffy and soft. The latter are far more common than the former, which is why I was so excited about this place. What a disappointment. I should have looked at the photos first!

The food here was good but took aaaaaages to arrive. Even slower were the drinks with a timed 20 minute wait for a round at one point. The restaurant and bar weren't particularly busy and the cocktails were not complex to make. So the wait seemed unwarranted. My niece gave up on waiting for her lemonade completely-which we later found had just been forgotten - and opted for the water that had been placed on the table. The best part of the meal though was dessert. The chocolate hazelnut Sunday hit the spot for me and my mum and sister swooned over the their sticky toffee puddings. I'll give this place another try, but they'd better perform on service or it'll be the last time they get my money.

I had a good meal at Foxlow, but it wasn't cheap. I started with a good but not great mozzarella starter, followed by the d-rump, which tasted tender and well aged. The sides were workman like in that I remember liking them, but can't remember what they were. It was reasonable value in that meat is expensive, but if you have a drink, you'll be hard pushed to spend less than £30 a head. All in all, a good restaurant and I'd definitely head back.

Looking for a higher quality meal on Friday night and having heard good things we decided to reserve a table at Foxlow. We were surprised that we had no trouble even though booking only about an hour before we wanted to go. It became apparent why once we arrived to a completely empty restaurant with a few people having drinks outside. A few more tables did appear before we left but this place was very empty for a busy Friday night in Stoke Newington when all the other restaurants are buzzing - this should give you a clue about what to expect. To give credit for the only thing that was not dire at this place was a couple of the staff and their attitude which was excellent: friendly, professional and very welcoming. Unfortunately our main waitress was unfriendly and we got the feeling was looking down on us for everything we ordered. The wine list while extensive really needs to offer a larger number of lower priced options. Suffice it to say we didn't feel we had value for money on the mediocre wine we had for £29 which was the 6th cheapest on a menu of over 30 reds! The food was the biggest let down. The starter we shared of burrata with heritage tomatoes and avocado was pathetic. A single thin slice of the burrata on the plate with two tiny orange cherry tomatoes cut in half and one regular tomato slice and some pureed green stuff that might once have been something like avocado. It was tiny for £7.50 and a long way from the quality we were expecting. The mains were delivered the moment we finished the starter but despite that were both cold. The fried chicken sandwich being cold was far too soft to give confidence that it had been cooked properly. But far worse was the ribeye steak which was small and thin, insipid and grey and wholly unappetising. As we were both hungry we ate what we could but were disgusted that for the price the quality could be so bad. The restaurant claims to use produce from the Ginger Pig but either this claim is untrue or they are treating it incredibly badly. All we could assume is that our main order was cooked at the same time as the starter was delivered and sat under a less than warm heat lamp but even hot the quality was far lower than the price requires and led us not to bother sending it back.Given the empty state of the place the locals have obviously figured out that you need to avoid this place and this was obvious as we saw every other restaurant full. The makings of a good place are there with a nice venue and some well trained staff but with such appalling cooking and lack of quantity and quality with respect to the prices this is a place I would strongly advise people to pass!

This is my second visit to Foxlow and my review covers both visits. On the first I was disappointed that three items on the brunch menu were unavailable - sadly, the three items I was most interested in eating. Anyway I opted to the Foxlow burger, and have to say as a burger experience it was pretty much up there with the best.We also had bread and butter pudding which wasn't presented as I had in my mind's eye, but was pretty good. But what was outstanding was the way they responded to the reduced menu choice. They did not charge for the pre-brunch drinks, nor the desserts. Furthermore they gave us a personalised invite to a free brunch in the future. And they went out of their way to apologise.Cue Father's Day and we returned. My daughter has eggs benedict - I don't know if readers have trouble with making hollandaise sauce, I do - but theirs is perfect and the poached eggs (organic obviously) had the required runny yolks. I had the Foxlow version of a sausage and egg Mc Muffin - really, really good. Next visit will be the standard on which I judge many restaurants, the Sunday roast.

I was in a party of 4, and we were all in agreement that the food was ok, but pricey. Certainly none of us were blown away and my steak wasn't cooked as I asked for. (Medium and was much more like rare) leaving me with red mash potato. Was still a nice steak though. Staff were very friendly and polite although I did feel as if it was all a bit squashed. Don't think I'll be in a rush to go back, although certainly not an unpleasant experience, just think for the price we paid, the quality of the food should have been slightly better.

Me and my friend try to go on brunch at least once a month and try a new venue each time. We went to this Foxlow on a Saturday in March... and it was just great. We went with my daughter who was asleep after the bus ride, and it wasn't a problem at all for the waitress to give us a large table so my 3 year old could sleep on the chairs put together as a bench (really appreciated!).We wanted to try Foxlow for a long time, and went to this one (for some reason my friend had heard that this one was the worst to go to ) and we loved it! I haven't been to the others Foxlow in London, but I have to say that we have nothing negative to say about our experience there. The food was really really good and tasty! Loved the Fried Chicken, Egg & Croissant Waffle of course! Their Vietnamese coffee is exactly how the typical one is (I lived two years in Hanoi, so I know!), and the whole atmosphere was really nice, very family-friendly, waiters paid good attention to us and the waitress who took our payment in the end was very bubbly. All in all, a very very nice brunch, and since then, I keep on recommending it, and I will definitely take my partner soon. So I'll be back :p

First off, the steaks here are great and value for money, which is why I'm about to go back to Foxlow in Stoke Newington again; I love a good steak. The apparent lack of attention to diners from staff, however, left us all feeling a little flat. No welcome, no goodbye, a studied indifference to writing down our orders, surprising when 5 people are all ordering a few courses and drinks which, unsurprisingly, resulted in some side dishes not arriving. At least a waiter asked us halfway through whether everything was all right but, when I answered that some items we had ordered never arrived, adding though that we seemed to have enough anyway and to simply make sure not to charge me for the missing dishes, which the waiter kindly agreed to, only for the offending items to then arrive 10 minutes later and which I was billed for. A final observation - parents of small children will inevitably and understandably encourage their children to say please and thank you to waiting staff when eating out. We do and it therefore irked myself and my wife when our waiter unpleasantly poked fun at my children for politely thanking her every time she filled their glasses with the expensive sparkling water we had ordered, saying something to the effect of - why are you thanking me, its only water? Charming.

Disappointing, because I'd been looking forward to a good neighbourhood restaurant opening. Friendly welcome, but the ambience is dim to the point of needing torches to read the menu (and it wasn't just us - other tables had to light up using mobile phones). The food was pedestrian. Starters were what appeared to be deep fried frozen calamari with a few snips of chili - just like a Wetherspoon. Steaks were good, but the overall impression somewhat bland - a big blob of taste-of-nothing mash potato pure propped up my ribs. Chocolate desert was good - but bloody hell, so salty - like the idea of excess salt being unhealthy had never happened - needed a pint of water afterwards. And the house wine - a bland blend out of a barrel from the local Borough Wines shop - never failed to disappoint - just about ok party wine. Not expensive but not cheap and the owners decided a 12.5% tip should be added to the bill rather leaving it up to me.

Starting with the positives: welcoming, good service throughout, good range of dishes. Kids' menu is very good value at 6 quid for main course, two sides, drink and pudding all in. Burger and fries is a good bet for an adult. Less positive: entry level rump at 18 quid (no fries included) was perfectly cooked and very tasty, though pretty tough. House wine moderately priced but pretty unexciting. Everything else on the wine list is a big jump in price rather than quality. You'd be looking at around 85 quid for something properly special. My beer was very nice, but you'd expect that at 6 quid a bottle! Actively unappealing: my wife's chicken was bland. Roll was Iceland-grade. Fries were incredibly salty, well past the point of reason. Meat generally also seemed highly salted.

Requests for water or ketchup were forgotten the moment they left our table. I went to one of the waiters and expressed strongly my dissatisfaction. Immediately everything changed. They recognised that they were failing and were quite brilliant after all.The point of what I am trying to say is that if you are unhappy in some eatery or other, don't go home and winge on Trip Advisor. Do what I did. Tell them at the time and probably they will take it on the chin and up their game.Jessica's place is great. Do try it. We thought that we would give Foxlow, Stoke Newington a try as we've been to most eateries in the area. The evening we went was busy but we were sat quickly. Service was fine although a touch on the slow side. The limited menu choice was slightly disapointing. The food arrived and was presented well enough but my main course (burger) was average and my partner's steak was less than average. The "pepper sauce" was effectively bisto with a twist of pepper. We didn't have a desert as we'd had enough of the very noisy surroundings. The food is overpriced and of average quality. In summary I found Foxlow dissapointing. Family gathering for combined Birthday lunch. Looks nice from the outside with simple decor inside. Interesting drinks choice - my ginger beer was good. Starters of Pepper Squid, Smoke Rillette & Spare Ribs were all well cooked and tasted great. Steaks were well cooked and very tender with great flavour...this is clearly the theme of the menu. Rump, Rideye and Sirloin were all sampled with various sauces. To be honest my steak tasted so good it did not really need a sauce. Sides were OK but not all the order arrived. The vegetarian dumplings were good. Puddings also looked and tested good - Bourbon Caramel, Sticky Toffee and Pasion Cheese Cake well recieved. Bill was over £180 which for four with modest drinks was on the high side. Service was 12.5% which was not merited given the waiter came by and said sorry he was not looking after us. So in summary good food, exceptional steaks but let down by below par service (probably because they didnt have enough staff at peak periods) and a hefty price tag.

Went to try for Sunday lunch last week. The food was of a very good quality, but arrived luke warm (the very thing that eventually stopped our regular Hawksmore trips for Sunday lunch.) It wasn't cold enough to send back and we were starving so ate it without complaint. I had the roast, my partner the hake (which was tiny and also slightly over-cooked.) The bill came to around £65 for one course, 2 sides, (which for the hake was essential,) plus a drink each. I have to say as a regular visitor to the Jolly Butchers (usually almost half the price for an equivalent standard) I was disappointed with Foxlow and would be unlikely to visit again based on value for money compared to the quality.

i've been meaning to go to the foxlow forever, and finally stopped in for a few late afternoon drinks and snacks with a pal visiting from abroad. tragically, we arrived about 20 minutes too late to make the most of their bottomless bloody mary offer- my friend drank two bloody marys anyway, which she said were very good- perfectly spiced. i had 2 glasses of wine, a carignan and a white burgundy that tasted like the exact opposite of how i would expect a white burgundy would taste- lean, austere, astringent. either they gave me the wrong wine or that was a super-weird example of the style. foodwise, my friend had the five-pepper squid and fries: the squid sauce was next level amazing, and the fries were basically mcdonalds fries. i don't mean this as an insult OR a compliment, it's a completely neutral statement. i was not too hungry so i had a green juice, which was fresh and lively and about as good as a green juice can be, and a little dish of crackerjack-style popcorn with nuts and caramel that i could have eaten many many vats of. the decor was a bit underwhelming, especially knowing that foxlow is affiliated with the stately, mesmerizing dining rooms of the hawksmoor franchise. service was decent, though a touch inconsistent- we had two waiters over the course of our lunch: one was a bit too up in our grill, the other was a bit absent. but they were both fine. i will definitely be back for a complete meal here! good vibes.

Desserts were much appreciated by those that had them, especially chocolate and salted caramel tart. The food for adults was good, not cheap, but the menu for our grandchildren was amazing value: they were doing a special lunchtime deal of £6 for a drink, main (eg burger, chicken or pasta) and ice cream.

Foxlow has a great range of steaks and some more unusual cuts that you wouldn't usually find in the UK. Great sides and fantastic wine selection too. Good for a relaxing dinner and drinks with friends.

We went to Foxlows after reading good reviews. They had run out of the starter we wanted so we went straight to mains. The food was very good quality but over priced especially as you needed at least one side. Main course portions are small. The deserts were very nice and larger in comparison but again on the expensive side. The ambience in the restaurant is very good. Overall we had a nice evening but given the price and portion size we wouldn't be rushing back.

Lovely decor, good atmosphere and great staff. Food quality is superb and we couldn't fault anything - waiting staff were extremely helpful and unobtrusive and the house wine is a real bargain. The fried chicken was sublime as were the chips with chicken salt! Sides were generous and tasty - loved the little gem with parmesan. This is a really relaxed dining experience, high quality ingredients and lovely staff. Will definitely return net time we're in the area.

i went here on a sunday around 6ish and this place was still filling up. Just wanted a quick bite but ended up order two steaks, sides and salads! All cooked perfectly and very tasty. Nothing to boast about but just good comfy food, the steaks are the star and they have really good flavour so would recommend them. All staff from when we walked in to paid and left were on the go. Very good, very friendly and worth going again. A nice place for any occasion.

Newest addition to Church Street and I had a brilliant evening there for my partners birthday. The cocktail menu was great and the food was un-complicated and delicious. The Beef shortrib was particularly amazing!

I had high expectations of Foxlow, was turned down a few weeks ago for a walk-in, so made a reservation. Knowing the weather was going to be a scorcher, I called ahead to request an outside table... We were refused "in case the weather turns" so you can't reserve outdoor seats at all which was disappointing so we were seated inside.Cocktails were great, and the highlight of our meal! Foodwise, ordered the waffle, fried chicken and fried egg dish... Standard fried egg was overcooked meaning it was dry. Then I poured the gravy out and a blue bottle fly landed plonk on my dish!!! They quickly removed it and brought out another, but I was so put off by this I didn't put any gravy on my dish - it was so dry with an over cooked egg. They didn't offer to get me a different dish which I would have preferred. They took the price of my dish off the menu, but I received no real apology when leaving. Really disappointed considering the high hopes I had and left feeling sick! Won't be returning :(

Having heard good things about the Foxlow I ventured in with some friends. We had some pleasant cocktails while we waited for a table and were eventually seated. The menu was interesting, however there were not any descriptions about any of the dishes. Leaving my table wondering about a few of the dishes and having to ask multiple questions to our waiter. The smokehouse rillette was a good starter, it was just a bit one dimensional. It was just missing that exciting touch that could have made it amazig. The menu had so many exotic flavours, it's a shame they couldnt incorporate these into to this dish.My main was a fillet steak and it was very good. It was cooked perfectly medium rare and was very juicy, with a nice sear on the outside. accompanying my steak was a small amount of bone marrow and a garnish of salad. The skin on fries, which i ordered extra, were nice with a lovely seasoning. The 2 and 1/2 teaspoons of bernaisse sauce, which I ordered extra, was good but just a little on the small size.My experience was ok, nothing spectacular and a little bit pricey for what it was. I can see this place being a good after work "steak'n'beer" place, however I won't be returning in the near future.

Tried this place on the off-chance last Saturday evening. We live in the area, and have eaten here before the new owners took over. Although they were busy, they managed to find us a table. It was brilliant! There couldn't have been a more diverse group of people. My husband likes plain, well cooked food and ordered the slow-cooked beef; My son had the burger; his partner (who's vegetarian) had some asparagus and parmesan creation and I had the Roast Hake. We all agreed that the food was delicious. Will certainly go back.

We booked for a Saturday evening and were given a good table. The four of us shared two starters: crispy five-pepper squid and heritage tomatoes with Graceburn cheese – both OK but unexceptional. The hake was nicely cooked, and the fried chicken was quite good too, but the sundaes afterwards were disappointing. Nonetheless, it was an enjoyable evening in a convivial restaurant with efficient service; and not over-priced at just over £100 for food, plus 12.5% gratuity.

Food was good, focus is more for the meat eater. They didn't listen to our order and brought hake instead of the macaroni and cheese. Bit of an issue as I'm vegetarian but it was lovely when it arrived. Unfortunately my husband had already finished his meal as we didn't want it to go cold while my meal was cooked. He had the burger with a side of skin on fries. Asked for vinegar but received mayonnaise. On the plus side you can get a carafe of wine (half bottle) which is good if only one is drinking wine. The gratuity is added onto the bill , whereas we would have preferred to have tipped on our experience.Good food, good ambiance and decor but shame about the service.

Thanks to my friend Mr A. Another great find and great recommendation.I heard Stokey and i thought Turkish straight away. But this place is not Turkish and it is not any specific cuisine but simply good choice.Dishes ranging from Fish, Chicken and Steak and the classics but best desserts too.So i now have to take the wife.Try the Sticky Toffee Pudding

Very expensive for what you get, I had the ribs to start, about £8 or £9............2 of them! They were very tasty though. I then had the macaroni with some sort of fancy chillies in it. That was a bit average. The waiters and staff were very friendly and helpful. It was busy so they must be doing something right, maybe I just made the wrong choice. It's worth a try.

We visited this restaurant for our grandson's 3rd birthday, it was early 6pm, so quite quiet. The staff were very attentive and helpful. They catered for the wee man very well with colouring books and plenty of toys. The meals were very tasty but small portions for the price.

There really is nothing special about this place, despite the prices suggesting otherwise. Menu choice is limited (with dishes unavailable) and uninspiring. With so many other restaurants to choose from close by, there really is no reason to bother with this kind of pretentiousness.

I first tried Foxlow with my friend and his family. The menu was great and food delicious. I returned the next week with my boyfriend and his dad for Fathers Day. The menu was the same but the waiting time was over an hour and the portion sizes had drastically shrunk from one week to the next. Disappointing.

After a previously poor service we were welcomed by a complementary round of drinks were we had the ice tea whichWas by far the best I'd had and would definitely have again. The waiter was very helpful and knowledgeable about the food and gave great advice. The deckle was a great choice accompanied with chicken salt fries and the fresh tomato salad. The flavours were great and accompanied each other very well. We finished the meal off with the chocolate and salted caramel tarted which was rich and a great end to the meal. The staff were very accommodating and wanted the best experience so would recommend and lining up for the second visit.

Good atmosphere, friendly and efficient staff. Menu varied, wine list limited mainly French - bah. Didn't have starters, steaks superb and so was chocolate and caramel dessert. Cheese - potions are miniscule and it's not entirely clear on the menu what you are getting. Apart from this very good.

Visited for the first time. Nice environment, excellent service, great menu. Food delicious. Flat sausage and eggs amazing ! Sweet potato mash gorgeous. Food attractively presented. Coffee not quite hot enough for us. Not being from London found it a little pricey - approx £100 for 6 people. Overall a really good experience, highly recommend.

Went back to this site thinking we were going to the Homa. Obviously things have changed and we thought we would give Foxlow a try. Glad we did, Pepper squid and ribs as starters were delicious and all our 4 main courses were excellent although quite pricy. Wine list OK but not very clear - what is the house wine? the list does not say! Service at 12.5% is added on, I prefer to see this discretionary Will certainly go again..

This "twin" of the restaurant in Clerkenwell, is perfectly placed in Stokie. An improvement in the former Homa, Foxlow has the feel of a Parisian Bistro. Casual and comfortable with a "Modern London" menu and friendly, efficient service. Went straight for mains of 55 day aged Rump (from the Ginger Pig butchery) was flavoursome, served with onions roasted in a marrow bone (without the marrow, ). My wife went for the roast salmon, cooked perfectly (although a tad small). Great sides, the highlight of which was the chicken "salt" for the fries....wow....please never get rid of this!A glass of Foxlow red from Borough Wines,a nice young Tempranillo and Grapefruit sodas (for someone that can't drink at the moment) were perfect marriages. Can't wait to go back to try the slow cooked rib of beef!!!!

Been here 3 times in the last month. Great food each time and really nice service. Restaurant can get quite noisy which is fine if you are a group of friends but not as good for a romantic evening etc. Good choice of vegetarian and staff very helpful with gluten free etc. Nice decor and reasonable prices.

6 of us attempted to get a table separately (for 6) for the soft opening by email and all put as flexible as possible dates/ times as per instructions to increase chances of getting a table. Failed to get a table, therefore, failed to even sample food so will default to 1 star until offered 50% off as per soft launch. :)

Met girlfriends who are born and raised Londoners here for brunch on a random Wednesday. The food was great and the space is really charming. Loved the Foxy Lady cocktail and their mac n' cheese. However this seems to be the place that all the new moms in Stoke Newington take their small children to scream and cry. It was a bit much.

Last time I ate at Hawksmoor it was a disaster so was a little reluctant to go to the Foxlow offshoot. I am pleased to report that despite this being a busy Saturday lunchtime the service was excellent and the food good. Very nice rillettes followed by a very decent burger. Rest of family had steak and all said it was excellent.

What a disappointing experience. Poor service, food average and fleeced for wines by the glass. I was left standing at the entrance for 5 minutes. You don't mind paying a lot for main courses that deliver but this was just above average bistro fare. I was excited by having goose because it has been a while but it was just bland. My companion's scallops were too salty. Sometimes you just despair for the advice given by the michelin guide. Apropos bistro, the set-up makes you feel like you have arrived in a local bistro, tables so close that privacy is not an option. I was appalled by the price I was paying for a glass of average Chablis. I didnt even think to ask how much it would be, thinking it would be between 10 and 20 quid. Essentially 5 glasses of wine were nearly double the food cost. Even for London, thats just outrageous pretentious nonsense. On leaving they had no idea where the coats were and took an age to find them. This is not Michelin star service. Avoid at all costs! If you can tear yourself away from shoreditch just cross over to barbican and try st barts for a much better experience

We used the restaurant for the first time on recommendation that food was excellent but £22 for cod and chip and 2 soft drinks was over priced.a can of coke £2.50 the food was so shocking that for somewhere that cook to to order the chips were cold and the fish was soggy best thing the coke was cold as described Service was terrible the was a lady behind the till that sounded like a banshee English not her first language but the food was the pits I cam next door to another burger takeout and had better service and hotter food Save your cash and the disappointment maybe better as a take out but I won’t give them another chance and for a chef of 15 years that is a proper insult

Came to your restaurant on for a Sunday roast. I ordered chicken and got it raw and bleeding... After getting it taken back due to the state it was in, I waited over 25mins got a new one. I then got a tiny section of just the breast, 2 potatoes a tiny amount of carots, no gravey but weird mustard mesh. I cannot believe that this tiny portion of whatever was clearly left in the kitchen, cost me £35. No offer of a discount for the raw food or the huge wait or for the insanely small plate I got in comparison to my friends. The waitress didn't come and check on us, and I had to keep grabbing someone's attention to get drinks ordered. I am incredibly disappointed by this service and the awful experience I received considering the cost I had to pay for my food! Gutted and wouldn't recommend!

Clearly understaffed, although there were only about 6 people in the restaurant, still managed to take 30 mins just to produce 2 cokes… waited 45 mins for food before giving up.

Discovered this little gem whilst on a trip to London. Light and airy with a contemporary decor and friendly atmosphere. Excellent menu - perfect for lunch - the food is all freshly prepared and cooked to a very high standard. Very reasonable prices too! They also cater for functions so would be ideal for this. I'll be back next time I'm in London to try sample more from the menu. Decent wine for me and good range of beers for my husband.
