What a disappointing experience. Poor service, food average and fleeced for wines by the glass. I was left standing at the entrance for 5 minutes. You don't mind paying a lot for main courses that deliver but this was just above average bistro fare. I was excited by having goose because it has been a while but it was just bland. My companion's scallops were too salty. Sometimes you just despair for the advice given by the michelin guide. Apropos bistro, the set-up makes you feel like you have arrived in a local bistro, tables so close that privacy is not an option. I was appalled by the price I was paying for a glass of average Chablis. I didnt even think to ask how much it would be, thinking it would be between 10 and 20 quid. Essentially 5 glasses of wine were nearly double the food cost. Even for London, thats just outrageous pretentious nonsense. On leaving they had no idea where the coats were and took an age to find them. This is not Michelin star service. Avoid at all costs! If you can tear yourself away from shoreditch just cross over to barbican and try st barts for a much better experience

Food was great, but it was ruined by how long it took courses to come out. We waited on average over 40 minutes per course, which for a tasting menu is unacceptable. Left hungry and unsatisfied.

Definitely one of the best experiences I had in London. The food was incredible, my personal favourite was the fish and the gazpacho. The desserts were great and the vegan one for me was mind blowing as I usually find them to lack flavour. We also did the wine pairing as well and thought it added so much to the experience. The only thing to improve I’d say is the timing, the wait especially in the beginning was a bit long and dinner ended up lasting a long time too.

I don't often review restaurants in the UK, but I felt I had to review Lyle's. We booked this as we were led to believe it was a top restaurant, and we wanted to celebrate our son's birthday. We then heard the food was okay, tasteless, expensive, etc. This made us very apprehensive, and certainly, the Tripadvisor reviews were mixed. Nonetheless, we still went ahead, and I'm so glad we did. From the moment we entered the restaurant, we were greeted with welcomes and smiles. The food was really good—fresh seasonal ingredients, well presented, and all the dishes we had were delicious. There was none of the style over substance I see so often in London restaurants now. However, if I were to grumble, some dishes were on the small side. Excellent choice of drinks which worked well with the dishes. Service was exceptional. Friendly, polite, and gravitating toward the guests - as it should be! Just a wonderful experience overall. Thank you.

Lyle's, nestled in the heart of Shoreditch, is a Michelin-starred gem known for its seasonal and inventive tasting menus. During my visit, the menu was a celebration of summer, offering a vibrant exploration of fresh, dynamic flavors and textures. The meal began with the refreshing Summer Vegetables & Smoked Eel. The smokiness of the eel perfectly complemented the sweetness of the summer vegetables, creating a delightful interplay of flavors. If you like mackerel, then you would've loved the Mackerel & Gooseberry Toast. The richness of the mackerel was balanced by the tartness of the gooseberries and completed well with the suggested Riesling pairing. Next, the Tomato Gazpacho, Melon & Marigold delivered a refreshing twist on the classic gazpacho. The melon’s sweetness played off the acidity of the tomatoes, while marigold petals added a whimsical floral note. The Pollack, Artichokes & Preserved Lemon was equally impressive, with tender, flaky pollack paired wonderfully well with briny artichokes. The Duck, Beetroot & Pickled Green Fig was the star of the evening with texture and flavor. The duck was cooked to perfection—succulent and tender—while the earthy beetroot and tarty pickled fig created a vibrant explosion of flavors. The Fig Leaf Ice Cream, Blackberries & Meringue was a delightful and refreshing end to the meal. It had a unique and subtle flavor, while the blackberries added a touch of tartness and the meringue provided a delightful textural contrast. Overall, Lyle's offered a truly memorable dining experience. Their dedication to fresh, seasonal ingredients and inventive flavor pairings was evident in every course. Highly recommended for those seeking a unique and delicious exploration of modern British cuisine.

We had a great evening at Lyles. We did a taster menu with paired drinks. One of us had the wine and regular menu and the other had the vegetarian menu with paired kombucha which was a very interesting option. We had great service, efficient warm and friendly. We had delicious food. Cucumber gazpacho was a big highlight. Of slight disappointment was the dessert. A damson ice-cream with other bits but elements of the fish were very chewy. The decor was cool, stripped back and elegant but actually for a long meal like we had I probably prefer a softer more comfortable seat. We ready enjoyed our evening.

We booked this as a special meal however left quite disappointed for the price point. We’ve been to quite a few Michelin star restaurants in London for special occasions and this had been on our list for a while so had higher hopes, and the standard of food was not there compared to others. I’ve give 2 stars for the food, not that some of it wasn’t tasty, however for 5 courses for £100+ we were expecting a lot more bold flavours and larger portions. For example, the bread course was counted as one of the courses whereas in other restaurants this is an added extra. We also only had one oyster each for this course, I would expected several for a Michelin. The pudding felt disappointing and didn’t have much flavour. The service was very good and very friendly with attention to detail. The tables were close together which muted the atmosphere. I don’t normally write reviews however given the price point we thought important to share.

It's a mystery to me why this restaurant should be in the top 50. It was by far the worst experience in a star restaurant. High-quality ingredients are used and some combinations are interesting, but there can be no question of taste explosions and the presentation is loveless, as is the service... You feel like you're in a fast food restaurant, completely impersonal and fast, fast. Not for me

Amazing atmosphere, impeccable service & food with massive flavour explosion. Great wine & cocktail selection too. Reason I'm giving this place 4 stars is that I don't think it's quite worth the price tag & whilst the food was incredibly tasty, I didn't feel it blew my mind compared to some of the other fine dining experiences I've been to. It's also quite a small menu (5 courses, portions are small) and my expectations were slightly higher than what was delivered.

Incredible evening at Lyle’s celebrating my husband’s birthday. From the online booking we ticked vegetarian and pescatarian, assuming we would both have the veggie menu on their website, but upon arrival were amazed that a pescatarian option was available for us, menus were ready for our arrival and all staff were aware of our diets / the special occasion. The food, wine and service were faultless and it was such a special time. It all felt like a very well oiled machine, with cute little touches like a birthday card signed by all of the staff. Tasting menus can be hit or miss and often way too much food but this truly was perfect. Cannot recommend enough.

Disappointing experience. Went for dinner with the set menu. 1. Tiny portions (1 oyster, 1 tiny pork skewer, 2 small fried tomatoes, 3 pieces of asparagus, 1 small cut of monkfish) We were stuffing ourselves with bread in between courses because service was slow between plates even though it would take a diner all of 10 seconds to finish what’s on the plate 2. Taste - appetizers were good albeit tiny, but the asparagus was god awful bitter and sour and pungent, the monkfish was not a tasty endeavor, the oyster and granita is a silly combo (who wants frozen dressing on their oyster?!) Was itching to leave by the end of the mains. Server must have noticed because we were not able to finish our bitter mains but still found the courage to try and upsell the cheeseboard. And later the teas and coffees. Not the most graceful sales move when people are not having a good time. 2 stars is generous, benefit of doubt that maybe my palate isn’t suited to daily menu I had and on another day it could be amazing. But I’ve been to other brilliant set menus and fallen in love so I’ll leave you with a cliche; it’s not me, it’s you!

Nice balanced menu. Each course a nice size so when you finish your meal you are satisfied not stuffed. No weak courses and lots of highlights. Quality of the beef dish has to get a mention though along with bread and marmalade ice cream. We had the wine pairing which was nice and the sommelier very knowledgeable. The only reason to downgrade my mark was the connection between wine being served and food needs to sharpen up. Too many occasions where we are looking at wine and waiting for food or visa versa. Had dinner and liked the place in general. The ingredients are clearly up to the standards, the meals were cooked spectacularly well and each of the courses were rich in flavor and still balanced in taste. The wine selection is also superb. Yet, I am deducting a star because of the sand residue in the oyster and the overuse of anchovies in the main course. I also asked for still water and got sparkling water in a still water container. Here is the menu and my scores for each: Carlingford Rock Oyster & Tomato: 2/5 (mentioned sand residue) Raw Hereford Beef Tart: 3/5 (tasted great but its texture was off because of the sheer amount of the raw beef. Tart was not enough to save its texture) Chicory, Apple & Pevensey Blue: 5/5 (Simply amazing. Delicious cheese, chicory cooked perfectly, and apple complemented the dish very well) Tema Artichoke, Bottarga & Preserved Lemon: 5/5 (Perfect in all taste, texture and presentation) White Asparagus, Walnuts, Anchovies & Spenwood: 4/5 (Very tasty but anchovies overshadowed the dish, throwing off its balance) Guinea Fowl, Brassicas & Wild Garlic: 4/5 (Brassicas were splendid. They blended so well with the garlic it blew my mind. Unfortunately, I cannot say the Guinea Fowl was seasoned enough) Ricotta Ice Cream, Rhubarb and Magnolia: 5/5 (I cannot imagine a better dessert for this dinner. Rhubarb and Magnolia gave it a unique flavor that some people could find too aromatic. The ice cream was also spectacularly well made, not too heavy in sugars with just the right texture served at just the right temperature)

We had such a great evening here last week on a 1 night layover in London. A friend had recommended this spot as having great food but in a casual laid-back atmosphere and that is exactly what we found. The food delivered across every course and was delivered in a set-menu. We ordered a few bottles of wine and the 'optional' cheese course. If there was anything negative, I found the chairs to be a bit uncomfortable and the sauce on the oysters to overwhelm the natural flavors of the oyster. Standouts were the turbot & white asparagus and the beef dish. Also, the stichelton (on the cheese menu) was delish. The "simple" things - like the homemade sourdough bread and oat crackers (with the cheese) were absolutely delicious and homemade as well. I can't wait to come back on another visit!

It is the perfect place for a delicious meal to celebrate, but with a relaxed feel. We had an amazing evening and I will be recommending Lyle's to my friends.

Amazing food from this 1 Michelin star restaurant. The atmosphere is laid back though. Warmly recommended for a special occasion.

Big mistake. Taster menu took two hours and left us hungry. Steak was tough and we left it uneaten. Nothing memorable

One Michelin Star but should be more. A set menu that was thoughtful and stunning. Very inventive flavours through out and the first time that I have tried goose. Set in a historic building I thought our experience was first class in every aspect.

Visited for a casual lunch during the weekend. We ordered almost the whole menu, food was good in general, 1-2 very memorable dishes. Service and atmosphere were chilled. Table was quite tiny and uncomfortable.

Very disappointed....Lyle's was always on my list to try out, very excited when I walked in but very disappointed when I walked out with my friends. Staffs are rude and make you feel very uncomfortable.... they were trying to get the table back for next round customer by rushing us to eat. They literally keep checking on our table and as soon as our plates are empty they will take them away and serve our next course straightaway. We literally finish the first 4 courses in 30 mins.... For the price I paid, £130 ( with 1 glass of wine), the food is not that impressive and the service make it even worse. Not going back anymore.

It was good and I am edging close to 4/5. However I just felt for Michelin star restaurant it missed something. The first course was Oyster with pear. I love Oyster......there was one. I know its fine dining but that was like a tease, it felt mean, 2 would have been better.

Absolutely first class. Brilliant food - the duck was just awesome, as were the hedgehog mushrooms - and a fabulous location. Outstanding service and a really great location. Every other diner looked like they were enjoying it immensely. This is is a must-visit place.

My partner and I visited your establishment yesterday to celebrate our anniversary, and we would like to express our gratitude for the thoughtful card provided; it was a lovely touch. Regrettably, I must admit that our overall experience was quite disappointing. We had the £95 set menu along with a bottle of the South African sparkling wine. The presentation of the nibbles was subpar, and the mullet exhibited a taste as if it had been left unattended for an extended period—lacking freshness. The pear nibble presented a peculiar flavor. The prawns were unsatisfactory, and the pollack dish was notably tasteless. The duck, unfortunately, proved to be quite chewy. The dessert, while acknowledging individual tastes, did not align with my preferences. The combinations appeared unusual. Considering the price point, we anticipated a more exceptional culinary experience with flavors that stand out. The only dish that resonated positively with both of us was the broth with chestnuts. Additionally, the discomfort of the seating arrangements was notable and detracted from our overall dining experience. On a positive note, we would like to point out that the staff are very friendly and accommodating. Given our experience, I we do not recommend and won’t return.

Great Food BUT overshadowed by the constant upsell, add-ons, and extras, with absolutely no mention of price (maybe intentional as they can easily double/triple the overall cost of the meal). This soured the evening, leaving us feeling exploited, in what was otherwise a decent meal!: 1) Not allowed to book for 5 people, but OK for 6! (didn't want to waste a fee earning seat!) - and that's after six calls to book in the first place, and even then we weren't seated in the main restaurant but outside in the lobby / bar. 2) Had to eat at 6.15pm, to make way for second sitting at 9pm. 3) Charged for tap water!! 4) Almost no wine under £50 a bottle 5) Waiter tries to 'Upsell' all the time, with no mention of prices of all the extras, some of which aren't even made clear they are extras! 6) 12% tip automatically added to the bill I appreciate excellent food at appropriate prices, and have eaten in most of the 'best' & Michelin star restaurants in town (we are not cheapskate 'hicks' from out of town). I also realise this is one of the 'hottest' places in London at the moment - and I'm sure you aspire to have customers for whom price is irrelevant, but you still have a core client base who want to make informed choices, so please have the courtesy to mention prices alongside all your upgrades and extras!

Very rude and unprofessional staff, Food was overpriced and of poor quality. Toilets were very dirty. Not a nice experience. Felt like the chef has lost his love of his craft and you can taste it in the food. Shame as its a good location. That's the only possitive.

We used the restaurant for the first time on recommendation that food was excellent but £22 for cod and chip and 2 soft drinks was over priced.a can of coke £2.50 the food was so shocking that for somewhere that cook to to order the chips were cold and the fish was soggy best thing the coke was cold as described Service was terrible the was a lady behind the till that sounded like a banshee English not her first language but the food was the pits I cam next door to another burger takeout and had better service and hotter food Save your cash and the disappointment maybe better as a take out but I won’t give them another chance and for a chef of 15 years that is a proper insult

Clearly understaffed, although there were only about 6 people in the restaurant, still managed to take 30 mins just to produce 2 cokes… waited 45 mins for food before giving up.
