Lyle's in Hackney

We did not get to try to food there due to issue with the booking. However, they were really accommodating and referred us to another restaurant. The wine we had there was amazing.

Neither the quality of the ingredients nor cooking were good. Despite of the ridiculous high price level and service charge, we helped ourselves with water and wine. Quite disappointed.

Had dinner and liked the place in general. The ingredients are clearly up to the standards, the meals were cooked spectacularly well and each of the courses were rich in flavor and still balanced in taste. The wine selection is also superb. Yet, I am deducting a star because of the sand residue in the oyster and the overuse of anchovies in the main course. I also asked for still water and got sparkling water in a still water container. Here is the menu and my scores for each: Carlingford Rock Oyster & Tomato: 2/5 (mentioned sand residue) Raw Hereford Beef Tart: 3/5 (tasted great but its texture was off because of the sheer amount of the raw beef. Tart was not enough to save its texture) Chicory, Apple & Pevensey Blue: 5/5 (Simply amazing. Delicious cheese, chicory cooked perfectly, and apple complemented the dish very well) Tema Artichoke, Bottarga & Preserved Lemon: 5/5 (Perfect in all taste, texture and presentation) White Asparagus, Walnuts, Anchovies & Spenwood: 4/5 (Very tasty but anchovies overshadowed the dish, throwing off its balance) Guinea Fowl, Brassicas & Wild Garlic: 4/5 (Brassicas were splendid. They blended so well with the garlic it blew my mind. Unfortunately, I cannot say the Guinea Fowl was seasoned enough) Ricotta Ice Cream, Rhubarb and Magnolia: 5/5 (I cannot imagine a better dessert for this dinner. Rhubarb and Magnolia gave it a unique flavor that some people could find too aromatic. The ice cream was also spectacularly well made, not too heavy in sugars with just the right texture served at just the right temperature)

Eaten here a few times in the last year or two. Genuinely excellent cooking, ingredients and service. You’ll get a superb meal here that is full of detail and it’s a great dining room. Good value for what it delivers as well in my opinion.

Culinary experience of the highest level, chosen vegetarian menu which I attach. A growth of flavours, explosion of taste, quality and love for the ingredients that become food. Final with two exceptional desserts that make you leave smiling. Good range of wines, excellent bread, attentive, friendly and professional service. Very nice to see the team of young chefs working. Price not trivial, but the experience is worth what you spend. Recommended, Michelin star I would say well deserved

We had such a great evening here last week on a 1 night layover in London. A friend had recommended this spot as having great food but in a casual laid-back atmosphere and that is exactly what we found. The food delivered across every course and was delivered in a set-menu. We ordered a few bottles of wine and the 'optional' cheese course. If there was anything negative, I found the chairs to be a bit uncomfortable and the sauce on the oysters to overwhelm the natural flavors of the oyster. Standouts were the turbot & white asparagus and the beef dish. Also, the stichelton (on the cheese menu) was delish. The "simple" things - like the homemade sourdough bread and oat crackers (with the cheese) were absolutely delicious and homemade as well. I can't wait to come back on another visit!

Perfection. This was my first time trying Michelin starred / fine dining, so I had high expectations, but I was blown away by the whole experience! The food, the service and the atmosphere - perfect. I highlight recommend the wine pairing You really need to come here to really grasp the level this place is at.

We had a wonderful meal at Lyle's, the tasting menu was excellent (pictured is the Hereford forerib, utterly delicious). As a celiac sufferer I was incredibly grateful for the gluten-free adaptations, it is fantastic not to have "gluten-free by omossion" as happens in far too many other places. Service was warm and friendly, and my mocktails were excellent. I'll be back.

Sur le papier, il y avait de quoi être enthousiaste : étoilé michelin, dans le classement world 50 best, et considéré comme meilleur restaurant à Londres en 2024 sur Square Meal… Plutôt un palmarès laissant penser qu’on peut y aller les yeux fermés. Nous avons opté pour le menu unique avec accords mets et vins C’est sans chichis, simple, on se sent plutôt dans un joli restaurant que dans un étoilé. C’est bruyant, vraiment, car l’espace est plein, les tables assez resserrées et il y a de la musique assez forte en fond. Pour un diner en couple, pas l’idéal du tout. Le service est très sympathique, et dans l’ensemble l’ambiance du restaurant est agréable. Nous avons pris l’accord mets et vin facturé £75 par personnes… Pour 5 demis verres de vin, tout à fait corrects les vins, mais il s’agit de bouteilles autour d’une vingtaine trentaine d’euros la bouteille à l’achat. Nous aurions aimé des verres entiers pour ce prix. Le vin est servi parfois une vingtaine de minute avant le plat qu’il est supposé accompagner. Comme il s’agit d’un demi verre il est souvent vide quand le plat arrive. Pour les plats c’est un menu unique pour tout le restaurant, mais étrangément nos voisins avaient des assiettes avec plusieurs morceaux de viande alors que nous n’en avons eu qu’un… La nourriture est très correcte, mais clairement plus du niveau d’un bib gourmand que d’un étoilé… Et encore nous avons fait des bib’ gourmands plus exigeants. Le problème est que le prix à payer est plus proche de certains 2 étoiles avec lesquels la comparaison est impossible : dix niveaux de catégories les séparent. Nous avons beaucoup aimé l’huitre aux coings, mais une seule petite huitre par personne, c’est vraiment peu. Nous avons mangé dans des restaurants à Londres deux à quatre fois moins chers qui valent beaucoup plus le coup !

Food was really good! And service too needless to say. But gotta say it’s quite pricey and portions were for sharing. Since portions were small, you’ll have to order quite a few dishes to be full which adds up to the bill.

It is the perfect place for a delicious meal to celebrate, but with a relaxed feel. We had an amazing evening and I will be recommending Lyle's to my friends.

One Michelin Star but should be more. A set menu that was thoughtful and stunning. Very inventive flavours through out and the first time that I have tried goose. Set in a historic building I thought our experience was first class in every aspect.

Visited for a casual lunch during the weekend. We ordered almost the whole menu, food was good in general, 1-2 very memorable dishes. Service and atmosphere were chilled. Table was quite tiny and uncomfortable.

Very disappointed....Lyle's was always on my list to try out, very excited when I walked in but very disappointed when I walked out with my friends. Staffs are rude and make you feel very uncomfortable.... they were trying to get the table back for next round customer by rushing us to eat. They literally keep checking on our table and as soon as our plates are empty they will take them away and serve our next course straightaway. We literally finish the first 4 courses in 30 mins.... For the price I paid, £130 ( with 1 glass of wine), the food is not that impressive and the service make it even worse. Not going back anymore.

Per il cibo francamente sono abituato probabilmente troppo bene dai ristoranti italiani ma io non ho colto alcunché di meritevole di menzione . Non ho mangiato male ma per 350 euro (con 1 bottiglia di vino discreta ) mi aspetterei qualcosa di “wow che bontà’” . Ma è nella classifica dei migliori 50 ristoranti al mondo quindi deduco che sia una mia mancanza .

It was good and I am edging close to 4/5. However I just felt for Michelin star restaurant it missed something. The first course was Oyster with pear. I love Oyster......there was one. I know its fine dining but that was like a tease, it felt mean, 2 would have been better.

My partner and I visited your establishment yesterday to celebrate our anniversary, and we would like to express our gratitude for the thoughtful card provided; it was a lovely touch. Regrettably, I must admit that our overall experience was quite disappointing. We had the £95 set menu along with a bottle of the South African sparkling wine. The presentation of the nibbles was subpar, and the mullet exhibited a taste as if it had been left unattended for an extended period—lacking freshness. The pear nibble presented a peculiar flavor. The prawns were unsatisfactory, and the pollack dish was notably tasteless. The duck, unfortunately, proved to be quite chewy. The dessert, while acknowledging individual tastes, did not align with my preferences. The combinations appeared unusual. Considering the price point, we anticipated a more exceptional culinary experience with flavors that stand out. The only dish that resonated positively with both of us was the broth with chestnuts. Additionally, the discomfort of the seating arrangements was notable and detracted from our overall dining experience. On a positive note, we would like to point out that the staff are very friendly and accommodating. Given our experience, I we do not recommend and won’t return.

Âfter the 3rd course my friend became stomach problems; The meals have been mostly to flat like the oyster with pear..there was no saltiness no acidity.. tasted like glibber. from all courses we had 2 that have been nice, the rest was not really an expirience. Also regarding wine we really had no good expirience We wanted a full bodied red wine: first we got a red wine with 10,5% ( horrible) and then another french red wine far to young and more than avarage quality. far to much money for this performance..

Enjoyed a delicious lunch with inventive cuisine, beautiful ingredients, and friendly staff. Would go back in a heartbeat -- one of our best and most memorable meals in London. At lunch they offer a la carte choices which allow experimentation and variety not available during the set menu at dinner time. Highly recommended.

50 best? Michelin star? I found this place mediocre and the waitress kept insisting on making us order the oysters which was annoying. Big Instagram scam.

Was super excited to dine here and everything exceeded my expectations. I love how clean the flavors were and nothing like I had before. The whole experience was great and the workers are friendly. The dishes are small and they recommend 2 to 3 dishes per person and its meant to be shared. It's also expensive but I thought it was worth it. Would love to come back and try other dishes.

The service here is incredible and the food is quality as impressive. Highly recommend the chicken of the woods (mushroom dish) and their scallops - The char, balanced with the acidity of the sauce was just beautiful. So glad I stumbled upon them and definitely the highlight of my restaurant of the week.

Great service from Rochelle. She had a great sense of humor and super attentive to our needs. The food ingredients are great but the portions are very small and left hungry. Specially for a 540 gbp dinner for 4 people including wine. Will come back and definitely worth trying.

We were celebrating a birthday and knew Lyles would do us proud. Fabulous evening menu with suckling pig and sweetcorn soup two of my favourite courses. The masterful use of flavours throughout the whole menu was so tasty and surprising, what a talented team of chefs you all are. What made the experience even better was the front of house service, what great guys you were who went the extra mile to make us comfortable and help our family really celebrate. I didn't enjoy the experience especially for what we paid. The fixed set menu was too inventive and rich for my pallete. I don't think majorum goes with squid and I found the honey cake dessert quite sweet and underwhelming. Lettuce with parmesan was unexciting, though I thought the other two handheld 'starters' were good. I don't like when waitors constantly switch and I found our main one wasn't v knowledgeable regarding the wine list, or at least she didn't instill confidence in me when I asked. I only found out we could substitute ingredients when I overheard a waitor tell the table next to me, who arrived when I was being served desserts. This is a shame as I'm not a big beetroot fan and I wasn't always finishing what was being served. I think Lyles tries to come across as laid back but it felt a little off, the school dining room vibe and chairs were uncomfortable for time spent on the meal, and when the food arrived it felt peculiar given the setting and location. I wanted to love it but food and service was a little off for me.

Great creative menu, the mussels were insane, everything else was fantastic aside of the mutton. The techniques are decent and the execution is great, it’s also good value for what you get.

Modern British gastronomic restaurant that I found pleasant but not exceptional by London’s standards. Pretty typical ‘new British’ cuisine with good local ingredients presented in a fresh but pure way. Oyster dish was quite pleasant and the sorrel with trout was a really pleasant surprise, taking me back to my grandparents’ dacha. The beef main, however, was slightly disappointing. I found the meat a little bit too tough and the aged flavour too strong. Overall nice dishes but nothing really outstanding in my opinion. The service was quite nice and kind enough to accommodate us coming very late for our reservation. My rating: 3.9

We went for lunch there. Food was decent. But wine was absolutely terrible. We opened 1st bottle and the bartender/sommelier had to take it away because it did not taste right and then we opened a different wine; although we drank it but really below average wine. Not impressed at all.

Has a reputation for a reason - great produce driven cooking, nice atmosphere and service, and an interesting wine selection with a knowledgeable sommelier. Blackberry and blackberry leaf pudding was the highlight, very clever cooking.

This is now are favourite restaurant when visiting London. We went two nights in a row. Not only is the food incredible, the sèrvice is exceptional. I normally only eat rock oysters in Australia but there snowflake sorbet makes the oysters here addictive. The ramson with oats is fantastic. Go there.

A Really Great Restaurant, I lived in Shoreditch from 1970 till 1984, was so Quiet 🤫 then. But it's Really Good for Young people and Tourists, but It's nice to come back with Memories, the Lyles was Lovely to me !!

Came for lunch. My friend hat the mutton, I had vegetarian (coco beans). We both loved the shared starter (cucumber gazpacho) and the dessert (blackcurrant tart) but were not loving our mains. Interior is minimal/industrial and has a nice, casual vibe. Service was exceptional! Would come back, but for a different menu.

Nearly all the food was very good. The "wine" pairing was only okay and not really worth it. However my pregnant wife had the alcohol-free pairing, which was more interesting even if only from a novelty perspective! The venue is excellent, there is a brilliant view of the kitchen. Would I return? Probably not unless there was nowhere new to try.

We had a lovely Friday night dinner at Lyle's. Decor is low-key and quite sparse. Staff uniforms are relaxed with everyone wearing croc-like sandals. Haha. Food was super delicious and not too heavy. I'd happily go back again.

We spent our first wedding anniversary at Lyle's and were absolutely delighted with our experience. The service and sommelier made us feel so comfortable, that it felt like being invited to friends. Unfortunately our friends don't cook as good though. The ambiente added to that feeling. Meaning the light and noise level was not perfect, yet perfectly imperfect. Would highly recommend to anyone who loves great food and a nice atmosphere.

GOOD, BUT … Good tasting menu but pricey for the number of plates served. Wine list is a minus for this restaurant. Trying to be creative offering wines from Hungary, Slovenia and Morocco but at ridiculous prices and very average quality. The labels from traditional wine countries like France & Italy were not up to the level and totally overpriced compared to other similar restaurants in London. Service was good and friendly from the beginning till the end. Maybe we had our expectations too high coming in … As I said GOOD … BUT …

The set menu bore no relationship to what we were served. The dishes which were good required little work, oysters were good, lettuce was good, peach slice was nice. The fish was extremely salty, in a way which was inedible. Service was pleasant. Wine was good. Music up and down in volume. Overall unremarkable.

Seasonal menu that was well-thought out and adventurous while still filling and fulfilling. Service: all the staff were attentive, knowledgeable, and helpful. They all knew the menu well and were happy to be serving. Staff treated my wife like a queen for her birthday. Atmosphere: clean and cute, emphasized the food while being comfortable to linger in. Recommend visiting as often as the menu changes!

What an exceptional gourmet experience. The focus is on the taste of the food and the service. It's not cheap but worth every penny. Particular praise must be paid to our Vegan Waiter Steph, charming, informed, kind and witty. PS. Have the oysters!

I would fly to London just to eat again at Lyles. Outstanding cuisine - so fresh you think they have a garden and an ocean outside their door where they retrieve your meal. Along with the extraordinary food and drink - each course comes with a passionate explanation of the serving and preparation. The service is incredible and my only disappointment this that I live an ocean away from this amazing restaurant. There are many many good restaurants in the world - but Lyles is one that I can honestly say is GREAT! If you are in London - make sure this is on the “must do list.”

Lyle’s is a great place to go for some good British food. Their staff are super friendly and the atmosphere is modern and nice. The food is also great, and their menu changes every day meaning that if you go back, you will always try a new menu. Overall, I had a good experience at Lyle’s and recommend it.

We had the privilege to dine here and must say it was absolutely superb from entering to leaving, the food was amazing, the staff were perfect and all in a very trendy yet modern dining layout, could not fault it one bit.

Great seasonal menu for food and drinks. Generous portions as well, and a good mix of local selections. Playlist was also great during my meal - Highly recommend to try. Staff was amazing and worked together to create a great service.

Striped back venue in the heart of shoreditch. Excellent wine list especially excellent natural selection, simple ingredients done well. Staff took a lot of care to cater set menus for various intolerances. Favourite was the game liver parfait biscuit bite, smoked eel, ricotta ice cream. Some dishes were over seasoned and on the sweeter side. Rating 3.5

Can there be a better dining experience in London? In the epicentre of ‘Happening’ Shoreditch, we attended an evening with a celebrity chef Marie-Victorine Manoa - sensibly priced. Despite arriving very late, the staff could not have been nicer and more accommodating. Magnificent food, blending classic and new wave influences. Each course a delight to the senses and a sophisticated blend of savoury and sweet. Excellent wine, realistically priced. GREAT music. A really friendly chef-patron, Jamie who, despite a FULL restaurant, came over and chatted pleasantly. We shall vote with our feet and return ASAP.

Excellent service, attention to details, food was on point perfectly balanced. Wine was great and served with relevant knowledge. Highly recommended. To note they focus on natural wine with a more classical flavour profile. So great if you aren’t sure about Nat wine or prefer that spectrum.

Food choices were all starter sizes at main course prices . You would have to spend at least £200 fo leave with your appetite satisfied . They then decide for you to add a small amount onto the billl for charity , which is a bit rich when they have offered such terrible value . I asked the waiter how much they themselves donate - and he had no answer . The food was very tasty but you leave feeling you’ve been mugged .
