Would not advise food here didn't get asked if we had any allergies the veg was frozen and hard my roast potato was black inside too much gravy the plate was swimming in it never came and asked if everything was ok when we had got our meal it wasn't prsentednice just piled on top of each other won't be coming back

Such a nice location. However, the fenced off area at the side is littered with dog mess. literally everywhere. Went in this area with the dog and kids. The pub and the people that visit it need to pick up the dog mess as do we. The Kids couldn't run around it was that bad, ended up having to move area as it's really not nice to eat food surrounded by it. At least clean make an attempt to clean it up. Proper disgusting. Ruined the visit

Just been to the fox and hounds for lunch, spur of the moment - omg what a great choice - not been for a few years but was starving after work so decided to go with one of my sons - Sian behind the bar and Faye the landlady cooking - hats off to both of you - great service and absolutely delicious food (surf & turf for me - the steak was huge! and bacon and cheese burger for my son- he’s full and has hollow legs!! Typical teenager - always hungry) don’t think we’ll need anything else today ! Get yourself there if you haven’t been before or just haven’t been for a while - it’s lush 😋

Had Table booked. Arrived early for a drink. The place was quiet, but the barmaid was totally stressed. Sat outside. Came back in. Asked which table. She was so stressed and said just sit anywhere. Waited for about 15 minutes. She was just serving at the bar trying to clear a few customers. Owner came out. He did the same as it was busier . After half an hour we had had enough. We were totally ignored. I said to the owner we were going and the service was terrible. He replied, it’s not our fault, we are short staffed, I replied, well it’s not our fault. You should have enough staff on, you are running a business. He replied, you know where the door is. Totally rude and arrogant. Terrible landlord. Doesn’t know how to talk to and treat people. No Stars for me

We went for a family dinner and have recently got a dog so we needed to try a dog friendly pub. We were not disappointed. The food was amazing all five of us agreed. The welcome was equally as good, can’t wait to go back again.

Went for lunch to this warm and welcoming pub. I had Hunters Chicken and my partner had Scampi, both were delicious and very well presented. The staff were very helpful and friendly and we will certainly be back

We tried the Fox and Hounds in the hope that it had improved under new management, and we were not disappointed. The young people who served us were charming, and very obliging, and evidently trying hard to provide a comfortable visit. The premises are beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean, and the food and drink offer excellent value for money. We’ll be back, as my companion lives nearby, so he was delighted to find a good local spot.

Back to see my Dad & Sister today & we were advised to give the Fox a try for lunch, glad we did. Staff lovely, pub lovely & a great outdoor area. Garlic bread to start, great. Main I had mixed grill (for £15! Mega value). All really nicely prepared with some tasty chips. Rest of our group had fish & chips, which they all polished off with not a scrap of food left. £75 for four of us with couple of drinks each & coffee, fantastic value. Hopefully the pub will stay in these safe hands & we will definitely be back on our next visit.

Here on business for a couple of nights. Visited the fox and hounds for a meal as not much local. Very very disappointing Firstly ordered garlic mushrooms on ciabatta therefore expect mushrooms cooked in garlic and topped onto a ciabatta. Came in a bowl with two slices of bread and served in a creamy sauce which was not stated on the menu therefore bread a soggy mess. 2 options. 1) serve as described. 2) change your menu description and serve the bread on the side 3) what if I was dairy intolerant or allergic and this was served to me. 4) the menu does NOT ask about allergens and there are no signs up in the pub (this is against the food standards agency guidelines - oh I did see this on the kitchen door when exiting so not an ideal place to place) Next course Hunters Chicken chips salad and coleslaw. Let’s start with the chicken dry as hell, Chips had salt and pepper seasoning which was not advertised on the menu - I do not eat salt. Coleslaw either watered down or a cheap version. The only thing nice was the salad and who can go wrong there.

Always pop in when visiting family that just happens to be next door 😀. I’m picky when it comes to the quality of the ale and I’ve always found it to be excellent. The food is excellent and popular so that tells you all you need to know. Highly recommend Sunday Lunch. Friendly and engaging owners and staff always makes a difference. 10/10

First visit today and definitely not the last….best garlic mushrooms we’ve ever had…Sunday lunch was excellent, fresh and hot….

Went this afternoon for a meal with the family. The staff were friendly and the pub itself is very nice. Sadly the food was disappointing having read the excellent reviews. The chips on all our dishes looked like they’d been warmed up many times as were the peas, the fish was cold in parts, it seemed like the fish had been plated and been stood while the chips and peas were warmed up. It wasn’t particularly expensive but sadly the standard was not what we expected. Considering the glowing reviews we will come again in the hope we just picked a bad day

Come in every Sunday for a drink. Had food today. 4 Sunday dinners and one sandwich. Great food, brilliant portions and lad behind bar is a great bloke, always has a chat and a laugh nothing too much trouble

We had a family meal out, A really nice pub, clean and tidy, pet friendly, good selection of drinks, The Sunday Dinner was worth every penny, landlords very nice and friendly, staff very good, play area for children, nice views, checked the menu and looked a nice selection of food, looking at the food on the other tables their food looked nice fish & chips, steak and the burger, will be going back for another visit

Visted the Fox and Hounds at Marsh Lane this afternoon. Lovely traditional country pub with a warm welcome. Our food was amazing, Thai Fishcakes, Tex Mex Burger, 8oz Angus Steak and I had delicious Steak and Ale pie.Cannot recommend enough. So pleased we have a local pub with atmosphere and great food.

We went for a meal here as we were staying locally, and found the place very busy, and not very well organised, even though we had booked a table. We were seated at a table very close to a bunch of males, obviously quite drunk, who moved outside a little later thankfully.The food was reasonable quality, and on the decent scale for pub fare.What worried us was that all the tables in the place were jammed together, with no social distancing in evidence or regular cleaning, and the place was heaving with far too many people to be safe. They then also hosted a birthday party, with lots of people involved as well in the pub!Lots of drunken people were hugging and kissing, it was just like the old days! No regards for safety at all, so we left as son as possible after our meal, as we just didn't feel safe.Happy they are busy, but hope they are not the centre of another COVID outbreak, which is highly likely

We really wanted to like this place when the new owners took over as we really need a good local pub in Marsh Lane and we would definitely support it. We went on a Wednesday evening and sat outside, great start. The food however was dire and inedible, Thai curry, cheeseburger and cheesy chips swimming in grease. They seem to have good local suppliers but the food was awful. My hubby and son eat everything but couldn’t eat their meals. A decent chef could turn this around and we would support this local business. We currently wouldn’t return unfortunately.

We ate here yesterday at around 6:45pm, the restaurant had a lot of customers and a great atmosphere and we were shown to our table straight away and able to order our drinks there and then from the table, of course great for social distancing and so were the hand sanitisers placed about. We ordered the three course meal from the opening night menu and the pie was fantastic, really generous portion with lots of meat cooked spot on. The table was promptly cleared and we were asked if we wanted our desert straight away or in a few minutes, we said in a few minutes and placed another drinks order which arrived straight away, then in a few further minutes, our desert arrived and I had ordered the treacle pudding which was delicious! All our food and drink was priced really reasonably and we had very prompt and friendly service. We will be going back again to taste the regular menu!

We ate here early evening the pub was not busy. There were lots of staff but very disorganised overall from ordering the food and drinks they managed to get 4 things wrong, including overcharging us. The food at best was average, tough meat in the pie and hard mushy peas. Such a shame as this used to be a lovely place to eat I todays tough times they really need to up their game to survive.

Decided to stop here for evening meal whilst out and about. I asked for the pie and hubby ordered lasagne. Waitress came over and told me the last piece of pie would not be up to the usual standard - more gravy than meat, and did I still want it? Changed to lasagne, impressed with the honesty. So glad I did, the lasagne was lush, very tasty and meaty. We were given a bowl of excellent chips to compensate for the pie too, unexpected but very welcome. Friendly bar person and waitress made for a nice experience. Not out this way very often, but but would definitely call again.

Went to celebrate my wife's birthday instead was constantly sending meals back cos the staff couldn't take orders properly... Dyslexic or just ignorant.. Either way ruined the fine food on the menu...make sure you spell your order out properly.

Visited the fox and hounds on Sunday as part of a party of 11 people on recommendation from a friend. The staff were very attentive from the minute we arrived we were well looked after. Our meals were fantastic, the roast dinners are delicious and very good value for money. There were a number of large parties in while we were there and the staff made it look effortless! We will definitely be back again

We arrived late on Friday having been told by our host in a local B and B that last orders for meals in the evening ceased at 8pm. Thankfully, the chef prepared a meal for us both and we were truly grateful. It was good too. Welcoming and friendly pub. Thank you.

Myself and partner had the steak pies.. unbelievable value at 2 for £12! The pie was filled with delicious lean steak. All the staff are very welcoming and friendly. The young lady behind the bar is lovely and chatty. We will definitely be returning

My 2 sisters and I went for lunch here yesterday and the food was terrible.I had a prawn salad and it was obvious that the prawns had been left to defrost in the water to long, there was no taste to them at all. My older sister had scampi, chips and veg but the green beans were not sliced and were not cooked enough, they looked like they had just been picked and dumped on the plate. My younger sister had chilli con carne but there wea no kidney beans in it or any beens for that matter. To be honest it looks like a tin of mince heated up and serve with rice.My sisters and I meat up once a month and go out for lunch. We have been to several different restaurants in the area and often try new ones. Unfortunately this was a new choice but we will NOT be going there again it was diabolical

I'm sad to to say being a regular for Sunday lunch that today it was awful. I ate as much as I could stomach, well all three of us did. The gravy was pure salt. The two slices of beef were like dried up rubber. Mashed potatoes dry with herbs in (not nice flavour) and the gravy was pure salt. Riastues too well done as was the Yorkshire pudding. Saving grace wS the cauliflower cheese and veg. Thank you for refunding our money, I did just want to make you aware how bad it was today. Only 2nd time we have not beed happy. Didn't complain that day. Sorry only 1 star today for veg and refund. You was gracious about it

Visited the Fox and Hounds as we heard good things about their Sunday Lunch! As a four we all decided to have the Beef which was lovely and tender with all the usual trimmings which were all very good! Excellent value for money at £9.95 for the quality you get and the surroundings! Will definitely be back!

Food is usually lovely here with pleasant staff and a nice atmosphere. However after this visit will not be going back. The food was overcooked and the staff were just rude when this was brought up. The barmaid needs an update in customer service.

Went to meet a good friend of mine at the Fox and hound, I got there early and ordered a drink at the bar, drink wasn’t expensive and the lady behind the bar was friendly and had a conversation while I was waiting for my friend.

I Came a Few month Previous and the Garlic Mushroom was absolutely shocking the portion size was tiny, I then came on Tuesday daytime and ordered the Same it was absolutely brilliant, the Presentation and the flavour was out of this world! Passed this place tons of times, always looks dead, that is until you drive round the back to the decent car park. And what a view from the beer garden! It must be smashing on a sunny day.

We went to this place for Sunday lunch as a family as we dont get chance to be together very often. The decor is good, the staff are warm and friendly and helpful. We asked if we could move to a quiter table as they had a christening party in and they obliged without hesitation. The food was all lovely and home cooked with fresh vegetables. I would recommend a visit.

Visited last week for lunch. Ordered the potato cheese and onion dish with a side of onion rings. It was a bit of a wait but that's what you get with freshly cooked food and it wasn't a problem. The food came well presented, tasted lovely and stayed hot right up to the last mouthful. You don't get that very often. Limited menu but enough choice. Nice staff and a pleasant atmosphere.

Went here a number of years ago and wasn’t impressed but it since been taken over by new owner. 22 of us gathered for a get together and it was lovely. Newly refurbished, its decor is very welcoming as are the staff.Warm friendly atmosphere and the food was impressive. On Sundays they only serve Sunday lunches and pies, but that's more than enough to choose from. Tasty and served hot with a variety of fresh vegetables. Very reasonable prices.

Annual Christmas meal for 8 friends. Starters, mains and desserts all excellent, tasty and well presented. Free prosecco on arrival. Couldn't fault it. Highly recommend the Christmas pudding ice cream...delicious!

We pre-booked our meals as we have a very large family, Craig took the booking on the phone to arrange the meal and he was so accommodating and very friendly. We were warmly welcomed on the day and the staff were so attentive and very polite. The chefs in the kitchen were fantastic, all the food was amazing, the children's portions were very generous. Very reasonably priced meals which are always appreciated. My sirloin steak was cooked to perfection. The kids loved the outside play area too. Tracy and Family

We called in for a drink a few weeks ago and noted the food looked good so went in Sunday for a roast beef dinner at £8.95. All home made, lots of beef , roast potatoes, mash, lots of carrots and cabbage, with a Yorkshire pudding. I was stuffed and unable to finish my veg but a lovely meal served in a nice big country pub with friendly staff and a lovely big open garden around the back for sunny days.

Stopped here for drinks with my dog after big long walk, fab place lovely wine super friendly and dog friendly too. Bar staff fab and there was a great quiz on which was a giggle. Will return. Thanks Linda

We visited this well reputed pub restaurant midweek without actually booking so it may have been a surprise to the management when a party of eight arrived unannounced, which is why I am willing to forgive the slow service and lack of seasonal vegetables, despite these being on the menu.

Went with my wife prior to going to City Players, at 5.30pm it was quiet as you would expect, staff were very welcoming and friendly, so despite being quiet a good feel to the place.

Had a couple of lovely Sunday lunches at the Fox. The staff are lovely and welcoming and you can take your pooch to meet the others there.

We called into the Fox and Hounds on a rainy Sunday for an afternoon meal. The dinner was fantastic. We returned later in the week for an another, this time the service was atrocious. 2 hours for a deep fried starter and mains from the grill....

Just returned home from a visit to Fox & Hounds for Xmas lunch. It was first class traditional Xmas lunch. We had 3 courses and all excellent quality. Everything home made, even the ice cream served with the deserts. We also received a complimentary presecco which was a nice touch. Compliments to the chef Carol who came out of the kitchen to have a chat and the waitress Caitlan was very friendly.

Visited the fox again for Sunday lunch today... best Sunday lunch this side of Sheffield... it's just like a proper home cooked dinner just like what you would get at your mams house! Everything is home cooked.. I had a beef dinner.. it came with roasted parsnips.. lovely sweet carrots.. lots of stuffing and roasties.. plenty of meat and gravy.

Decidimos entrar el Fox and Hounds para comer el domingo el domingo pasados con mi AH. Conseguimos charlando con una encantadora camarera que nos dijo el pub estaba en realidad bajo la nueva dirección ha reabierto dos semanas antes.

Called in for a spot of Sunday Lunch very pleasantly surprised , very able personable staffing , nice clientele, warm and cosy, spot on Sunday Roasts , excellent hand pulled ales , chilled glasses of pinot grigio wine. 4 of us went for lunch. Very few people were in the place. We had been previously and had had good food. We ordered 2 lasagne the appearance looked nice but on eating it was "crusty it used to be served with garlic bread but not this time. the scampi and chips were very nice only small amount of salad on all the 3 meals that were served. I ordered a sandwich and we were told before we ordered there were only enough for 2 tuna and mayo sandwiches. I asked if there was brown bread only to be told no only white.When it came I was a amazed to see it was just done on a medium sliced white loaf. Then on looking at it we realised it was a prawn sandwich not what I had ordered. It was replaced with a same looking tuna and mayo sandwich. No wonderthe place was empty. When you go out even for a sandwich you expect the choice of baguette white or brown bread. I wouldn't even give it 1 out of 10.We will not be visiting again nor will we recommend to friends.

Went for a meal today with the family including our 3 year old. Despite inclement weather, the landlady inflated an outdoor bouncy castle just for our use. The food was good quality, home cooked chips and handmade onion rings. Slightly let down by the crumble which was more soggy than crumbly, however, this was a tiny blip on an otherwise fantastic visit. A rainy Saturday afternoon well spent! On the subject of aesthetics, the pub itself is well appointed if slightly limited on seating space. It comes into its own on exterior seating and setting. In nice weather, this could be the best beer garden I've had the pleasure of outside of the lake district. Stunning views of the local hills and your choice of open or covered seating. Great spot for the kids with a well maintained playground.

The meal was inedible and the chef rude. A fry up is not the easiest of meals to synchronise but one expects it of a professional chef I will not visit this place again. The eggs were over cooked, the bacon under cooked, the sausages were small leather bags of bread pulp (though a little less tasty) and the mushrooms looked like they had been re fried after a night left in the pan. We were the only customers apart from one man who wasn't eating. There was no excuse for this appaling cooking.

Visited as a family with 2 small kids so imagine their excitement on seeing the bouncy castle, play area and horses here!Ordered food and paid by card which was handy as this was a last minute decision to come here so no cash on hand.Ordered from the 2 for £10 range with the order taken efficiently and not long to wait for our meals.I didn't expect much for the price but was a little surprised at the quality and portion sizes. Quite bland - quiche,chips,bit of side salad and peas- although my daughter thought ok.We ate outside as the weather was lovely and our table was quite near the play area to keep an eye on.Play area looked safe and the kids enjoyed. Took the kids over to look at the horses and lovely views.Bouncy castle free to use which was great and only a few other kids so good to keep an eye on.Probably would visit again but only for a drink and to take the kids to play.Tip: i carry around one of those handy little anti bacterial pumps so used after patting the horses and playing. Saves taking them across the carpark to the toilets.

We had our christening here as we had seen the play are looked fantastic and we had lots of children coming . The landlady was very helpful and showed real intreast in what I wanted on the buffet as I wanted hot and cold food ...well what can I say fantastic food buffet very welcoming and kept asking if all was OK all my guest was surprised at how much fresh food was there home cooked chips joints sandwichs all types no money or quality spared . Play are beautiful and bouncy castle a bonus .

Went to the fox and hounds for Sunday lunch with my wife and 2 kids. It was 2.30 and there were 3 other families sat in the restaurant area. We chose a table, got a drink, then placed our food order, 40 minutes later no food, my wife asked a young lad who was the only member of staff in the restaurant if he could see how long our food would be, he went to find out but never came back to tell us. He brought our food out 10 minutes later with no apology. The food itself was dreadful, small portions, not very warm and the veg looked like it had been boiling since midday. I was so hungry that I just ate it anyway, my wife asked for some apple sauce which arrived back at our table when she had eaten most of her meal, a table next to us asked the same young lad for some horseradish, he gave them hendersons, when he did finally get some horseradish the lady had finished her meal.I complained to the lad behind the bar as I couldn't see anyone else to complain to ( 4 members of staff including 1 in the kitchen) he was apologetic but couldn't really help.We have visited this pub a number of times in the past before it changed hands and it was great, unfortunately we won't be going back!!!!

Popped in for a pint on my way over to the Peaks and found some great cask ale available. Barman was very pleasent and lovely traditional decor
