Wow this was an amazing carvery. The food was hot, Turkey, Roast beef and roast gammon on offer. The vegetables were cooked perfectly, gravy was lovely. The only thing was the roast potatoes weren't cooked enough, they were very pale and hard, but everything else was amazing. The staff were professional and when they had a party of 13 adults just drop in for lunch not booked, it was No problem. Well done, you did yourselves proud. Will definitely come again. Thanks.

We visited this pub for dinner on Saturday night as we were staying at the caravan site a few hundred yards away. The new landlord and his team are lovely, polite and helpful. They gave us info on the local area and were really lovely. It was a busy Saturday evening, but we were served promptly. The food was obviously freshly home made and portion sizes were good. Between us we had lasagne, gammon and the cheee and bacon burger. All were excellent. Service was prompt but not intrusive. I’d 100% recommend visiting. The view is also lovely. Absolutely fabulous carvery on our Sunday lunch family get together! Meat melted in your mouth, fabulous choice of freshly cooked vegetables and top notch yorkshire puds, stuffing and pigs in blankets!!! You don't need a desset but rude nit to and lovely choice!! Great service to top it all off!!!

Staying locally with our dog and this came recommended. Food doesn’t disappoint, great portions and home cooked. We had the lasagne and steak and ale pie, both delicious!

Lovely place such a warm welcome the food was excellent it must put a lot of places to shame . The staff were so friendly the menu did not have a great choice of which I thought was just right . As mentioned before the food was excellent and plenty of it . This was my first time here and we will definitely be going back .

Went for lunch yesterday and could not fault it Normally carvery on a Sunday but this week was the main menu and a roast so it appealed to the whole family - service was exceptional - lovely pub made to feel very welcome . I had the beef dinner couldn’t fault it , lovely meat and great choice of veg - will definitely be back to try more of the menu -

Not impressed, when booking over the phone was told it was a carvery Sunday lunch, turned up and it wasn't. We stayed and still opted for the Sunday lunch and it wasn't that good,,was poor to be honest, had a lot better. Shouldn't be telling people false information to get them in.

Visited today with friends for our Carvery Lunch. We had 3 choices of meat carved by the Chef. Big choice of vegtables, roast spuds and stuffing plated by yourselves. Everything was piping hot and excellent quality. Lovely views of the countryside. The staff were very helpful and pleasant. The cost is around £12. This pub has been run by the new owners for about 8 weeks apparently. We would recommend this place and will be returning soon.

Just been taken over by lovely people who accommodated me and my family even though they weren’t supposed to be open that evening for food. Was very happy with the service and the food was delicious. My two normally picky children ate everything and said how good it was. Would definitely return here if we are back in the area.

They were really stressed when only serving two tables. Poor quality food and awful service. Made us sit down then took ages to come and take food order. Didn't offer to get drinks.

The food is excellent worth a trip. The bar staff are really great. The manager Anthony is a friendly knowledgeable guy and helpful.

Food was decent apart from the frozen fries when I was expecting home made chips. Service, however, was dreadful, slow to take orders and to bring food. Spoiled the meal and I won’t be returning unfortunately.

Just taken some friends up to the Goose for some tea. Great evening from start to finish. Andy who was handling table service was very accommodating changing our table after I had misbooked the numbers. Best thing drinks straight away so no waiting, menus prompt. Choice of food should suit most customers, very nice too and presented well, all served with just the right spacing. Attention from table service great with additional drinks coming just right. All in all a very nice evening. Thank You.

We sat in the conservatory which is the best eating area in this pub with views over the countryside. We were first-time visitors. One meat-eater and one vegetarian. The veggie choice bizarrely was Mediterranean risotto which doesn't really match a carvery but tasted good according to my partner and had lots of flavour. This included helping yourself to carvery veg on a separate plate. Cost £9.95 I had beef and turkey as a meat-eater. First observation is that the meat portion you get is fairly SMALL. One slice of turkey, one slice of beef and the carver tried to cut it as thin as possible. The meat was soft and tender and good quality. I could have done with MORE meat. There's a large veg selection, but a lot of the veggies looked ordinary, with the exception of the cauliflower and broccoli cheese bake which looked and tasted great. I also had sprouts which were just okay. The roast potatoes were pretty okay, fairly crispy but could've been more so and tasted okay. The gravy was okay. Horseradish sauce was good. Cost £9.95 Will we return soon? I really cannot make my mind up on that one! Not sure!

My wife has a small appetite so went for only a starter - the soup. It came with "Welsh rarebit galette" We asked what that was and were told it was small pieces of toast floating in the soup. We added "and with cheese on the toast". The server paused then said "it hasn't got cheese on it". We said that that was what Welsh rarebit is: "cheese on toast". She repeated that it did not have cheese on it. When it arrived it had cheese on the toast! I had "wholetail scampi". When it arrived I could not see any tails on the scampi. They looked as though they were the type that are sold in large bags of breaded scampi from a supermarket. The coating was very hard unlike wholetail scampi I've had in the past. The chips were very dry.

Located in a small county village off the beaten track. A very warm welcome by friendly bar staff. Main bar is a cosy traditional country pub with an adjoin restaurant. We had to book for a meal as tables are limited and clearly all food is cooked to order. It was a perfect location for us as we were staying in a local B&B a few hundred yards away. Food was excellent with decent sized portions and the waiting staff, like the bar staff were very friendly and efficient. No children’s menu but they were happy to provide a smaller portion for out 9 year old. Worth a visit if you are in the area.

We ate here twice while on a short break. Both times the staff were very friendly and helpful. The menu isn’t massive but there is a good choice and they also do specials. Both times the portions in why wife’s words were big, I’d say a nice size. What we could agree on was the food was extremely tasty. All I’d suggest is that if you’re going there to eat you might want to check in advance if the kitchen is open, we went on a Saturday lunchtime, arrived at 13:30, to find out that we were lucky as the kitchen was shutting in 30 minutes. If we come back to this area we will definitely eat here again and I would highly recommend it to anyone in the area looking for somewhere to eat.

A lovely country pub. Rivals many in North Yorks (which is difficult!). Went for evening meal but they weren't serving that day. Had a cheeky half enjoying the environment & company. They rang a nearby other pub & booked us in. Doesn't get much better...

Food good but the carvery satiation is near the toilets and the regulars walk past the food to go to toilets when there is another entrance to toilets . There should be barriers there as you are accompanied to the food when they are serving...

Wonderfully situated with amazing views over rolling hills and countryside. The food was delicious and served in huge quantities! Very friendly service too, and no long wait for the meals. Well worth a visit if you're in the area.

This place was a safe haven that really saved us, we were staying at the Alton Towers resort and there was no availability in there restaurants. We were then force to leave the resort and look else where, there was a place nearby but they...

Delicious food, lovely presentation and super friendly staff! It was quite busy, so the wait was a little long, but everyone is recovering from the impacts of the pandemic, so it’s all understandable. Will be going back again for sure :)

We booked last minute as we were staying at Alton Towers and wanted to eat out and watch the football. So glad we did, the food was lovely, big portions, friendly atmosphere and really good service. I would definitely recommend .

Visited this evening as staying at Shawgate Farm Guest House (5 mins walk from guest house). Recommended by B&B. Lovely welcoming pub. Friendly staff. Great food. Really cosy. Highly recommend if your in the area or staying for a short break whilst visiting Alton Towers.

What a welcome we received!!! A truly gorgeous old pub with fantastic views, fabulous food and wonderful company. Cannot fault this place and would definitely recommend a visit if you’re in the area.

Really well priced and a lovely meal. Seats were separated and I felt safe during my meal. Staff respected the rules and so did everyone in the pub. Great burgers and a lovely pint. Will be here again for some more good pub grub.

I took my wife for the first time to the Fox & Goose for there steak night. The pub was lovely with fires & great choice of beers. We both had steak with pepper sauce and cheese sauce. Chips were home made and lots of veg. The steaks were cooked to perfection and everything was gorgeous. Great service great food and great location. Highly recommended

My Hubby & I decided to give the Fox & Goose another try after a bad experience a couple of years ago when it had different owners and was dire on that occasion. The initial impression this time was great, we were greeted by a very pleasant girl behind the bar. What a difference it makes with the new owners, unlike the previous time when we were scowled at by a surly girl! We both had the Sunday lunch and it was superb. They are not mean with their portions, I couldn't eat it all. Beautifully cooked, we loved it. All the staff we met were lovely.Will definitely be returning.

Visited the 'steak night' again. Josper Grill - both steaks cooked to perfection, and the sauces were amazing. Cannot recommend this enough. Only slightly annoying point was they kept us waiting for the table when we turned up 20mins early (nobody much in the restaurant). That was the only slight niggle to a most enjoyable meal and great service.

A country pub trying its very best and succeeding to provide the best service possible. What a surprise to find somewhere where everything is done correctly - well done everybody at the Fox & Goose.

Popped in after church on my birthday, plenty room, looked clean and tidy, and looks welcoming from the out side.Staff friendly, food okay, not going to revisit as food not to my standard. Prawns tasteless, rock hard Yorkshire puddings, cold peas,dry roast potatoes and stuffing balls. Conservatory tables, room cold, people smoking out on the step, brought the smell in to the conservatory. Conservatory echos the noise of chatting and children. ( request a table inside if you like to chat) Positives plenty of car parking, welcomes dogs in the bar, beautiful views, credit cards useable. Plenty of food for money, beef tender and tasty.

It tastes as good as it looks, the burger was cooked perfectly and came with a choice of two extra toppings, we had cheese and bacon. Great friendly service also, definitely will go back if I'm visiting alton towers.

Visited sat 24th for a family wedding and can not fault anything x sit down meal and buffet were lovely, great selection of drinks, especially ales and ciders which went down very well! The staff were friendly and accommodating and did their best to make sure everyone was happy and enjoying themselves. Overall ... Fab! Thank you very much xx

We arrived at 7:40pm on a Saturday and without having booked. There were a couple of large pre-booked parties due at 8:00 and 8:30 so we were told to expect service around 9:00. They also offered to call a nearby restaurant if we were driving (which we weren't). We said we'd wait and settled in with some drinks. Next we know, they had shoe-horned us in between the large parties. Order taken, seated, food arrived. And what delicious food it was. I had Cajun chicken breast, the most succulent and juicy I've ever had, with a good punch of chilli. Crispy chips, not a hint of sogginess. My wife had Scampi an chips, again all lovely and crispy. Both portions were huge, hence my only dissapointment: that I had no room for dessert. Four different members of staff served us, all equally attentive and helpful. Will definitely be going back.

I went on a Tuesday night, where there's a - 2 meals for £15 deal - had a chicken breast in mushroom sauce - the piece of chicken was such a very small portion & not a normal size portion as they usually give, the chips were frozen ones & most definitely not their usual homemade & handcut ones - these were not good at all. Will definitely NOT be going again whilst they're se virgin this type of food!

Been to this great pub twice this week, steak night & Sunday lunch. Steak night fantastic value for money, and the Sunday lunch superb. Fabulous hosts and very friendly local people. Can’t fault this pub, give it a try, you won’t be disappointed.

Arrived after evening meal serving had stopped, bar staff very helpful checked kitchen found fryers still hot and sorted us out three basket meals.

Enjoyable meal. If you want nice pub meal. This is a nice place to eat but the menu is limited. So don't expect quail eggs.

Spoilt by the local clientele, loud, nosy and unbelievably rude. A big bald headed man and his fellow locals, used foul language in an loud way. Rest were nosy and ill mannered. If this is how country people behave, I would prefer the towns, at least people have a semblance of good manners, alas the locals of Foxt have none. Needs sawdust on the floor and a spitoon. Never again

Absolutely fabulous Sunday lunch. We sampled the Yorkshire pudding wraps which were utterly mouth watering.

We've just had the most amazing food at the Fox and Goose...couldn't fault anything. This was our first experience of yorkshire pudding wraps, and now we'll never go back to a standard Sunday lunch!! We all had a great afternoon and will be back regularly....we live in Foxt and have experienced the bad times this pub has been through (hence the poor reviews on here)...but now its back on track and we are so happy to have a great pub back in our village...thank you Anthony and Huw xxx

We went on a Friday night with a couple of friends. Cask beer choice was fine (3) and in good condition . We were shown to our table in the dining room which was nice but quite noisy, as sound bounced off every hard surface. We were informed by our waitress that some items had been taken off the menu to make way for Christmas food, though we couldnt have that instead !

I attended a large party for a friends 40th bday. The venue and food was lovely. Great value for money. But the waitress was miserable and rude and on 2 occasions they we caught slagging the party of. The first time they got caught they apologised for this. The 2nd time they ignored this and stated to each other they would continue the conversation after i was severed my drink. Myself and the rest of the party felt uncomfortable and we complained to the manager. He couldnt of been more apologetic however the damage was done. It was such a shame because the food was lovely. However this is somewhere i will not be recommending or visiting again.

This one still does! Great steak, perfectly cooked, nice thick chips, monster onion rings with crisp vegetables all served by pleasant staff.

If you are in the area we strongly recommend this pub. The customer service was fantastic and food great.

We called in here for a bit of lunch on our way home one afternoon. I ordered a jacket potato. The food was excellent,very reasonably priced (cheap in my opinion!). The potato was light and fluffy with a large portion of fresh beautiful side salad. The landlord was attentive and very friendly, and I really enjoyed this lovely lunch with great views across the countryside, we will be coming here again.

Called in today with my partner, just to check it out. We received a hearty welcome from mine host, who was eager to please. I had a pint or two of a craft ale, which was good and well kept. We both deided to have a meal while we were there. I had the steak and stilton pannini with chips and my partner plumped for a baked potato. Both meals came with a huge amount of freshly prepared salad. Portion sizes were huge and the presentation was first class. Prices are very reasonable too. The restaurant area is very pleasant, with beautiful views over the valley. We'll definitely be returning.

Staying the night up the road before visiting alton towers. Luckily they had a spare table as they are refurbing and how glad were we. Friendly staff, excellent service, great food, massive portions. Thankfully the desserts weren't too big but just as delicious as the mains. Would definitelyrecommend if ur in the area.

Went here as close to the mother in laws. We all had Sunday lunch with was ok, nothing amazing. The deserts were not worth the calories. The waitresses was miserable. Wouldn't go back.

We visited recently whilst staying over night in the local B&B; and had an enjoyable family meal. The food did take a long time to arrive (even though we were the first diners in) which is always an issue when your on borrowed time trying to keep young children from becoming restless and hard work, so the meal wasn't as relaxed and stress free as we'd hoped, but when the food came, it was tasty and hot. The children's meals were large and they were happy. In hindsight, we could have done without our adult starters as the main course was a great size with lovely chunky chips so we couldn't finish the food - but we gave it a great go.

Awesome service and food for 30 of our family and friends last night to celebrate our Ruby Wedding Anniversary.

Whilst having a few days break we walked from our rented cottage to the village pub, and are we glad we did. Some village pubs stop as soon as you walk in and you start feeling out of place, not here. Friendly staff and patrons make you feel welcome. We only had drinks, but will be back for food next time.

We came here for dinner while staying at Shawgate farm guesthouse for an Alton Towers weekend for my boyfriends birthday. I dropped the cake off in the day and the first person I saw had a massive smile and was so welcoming. When we came for our reservation we were greeted with the same level of cheeriness and the great service continued throughout. The food was fab and they helped make my boyfriends birthday meal wonderful. Would absolutely go there again and 100% recommend.

This pub is so worth finding your way through the winding lanes of Foxt as it truly has it all - fantastic food, lovely countryside views and friendly service. Went for a reasonably priced lunch and thoroughly enjoyed our choices of a steak and stilton panini and a steak pie (as a one off for this day we were allowed to choose from the evening menu depsite it being before 6pm) and found both choices to be sublime! Very generous portion sizes which we were unfortunately unable to finish but cannot fault the food, its presentation and also its delivery to our table. Would 100% recommend!

This is apparently the sister pub to the Marquis of Granby, and in my opinion the better location.

We visited the Fox and Goose for lunch on a warm sunny afternoon. The building has old world charm with modern comfort. The lunch was delicious, good food and plenty of it. It was so good we decided to book for a friends birthday only to find that food is not served on Mondays and Tuesdays so we booked for this Thursday and we are really looking forward to it.

Stayed for a weekend at nearby Moneystone. Our accommodation had the details of countless local places to eat.

I went to the fox and goose for my evening meal with my boyfriend and our 5 year old boy. We were staying nearby and it was recommended by the guest house we were staying at.

We went for a family celebration and received a very warm welcome. There were four real ales, the two we tried were well kept and excellent. We were seated at a table in the conservatory extention with magnificent views over the Churnet Valley.

Lovely night had by all. Excellent food that was very reasonably priced although the portions were rather large though not complaining just disappointed I couldn’t manage to finish it all! Very friendly helpful staff. Will definitely be returning.

We booked in for a meal on a Thursday evening as a party of 4 for a birthday, the meal was excellent, the service was very good, would definitely go again.a very good menu with prices to suit all...the restaurant area was well laid out with room between the tables it was clean and tidy, eating area is separate from the bar and there is a conservatory too ..

The meal & service were excellent, no problem. However, & it's a big however, access from the car park was totally wheelchair unfriendly. Access to the main door needs to be widened or more level access needed into the conservatory. A wheelchair user without a carer would have no chance.

First visit to this pub, lovely setting, great welcome from friendly staff.

Called on the day, short notice, Sunday lunch for 5 and the answer was they could fit us in. What an amazing Sunday lunch, garlic mushrooms to die for, all fresh vegetables, amazing beef/lamb lunch and huge portions. Cannot fault it. You need to book and you need to go there.

Meal out with the wife, daughter and son in law. Great food cooked traditionally and very well. Everything came as asked for with great service nothing to much trouble for the staff and all at a great price, just make sure you are hungry when you go. can not wait for next visit.

Had a booking at a nearby B&B. Walked through the churchyard to this pub. Great location and place. The pub is a lovely local pub with an amazing kitchen. We were fortunate to be there on steak night. The food was cooked perfectly (pay the extra money for the fillet). Two steaks and bottle of wine for £25!! The service was superb and it's all home cooked. Totally recommend. Would go back if we can.

Fabulous food the Greek night was fantastic with all freshly main Greek food soMuch choice. Curry night delicious, Sunday lunch fabulous with s great choice of deserts. Friendly and helpful staff. In just a few months Richard and Anthony have turned this pub around into a great place to eat or go for a drink with friends or family one not to be missed

My boyfriend and i came here for dinner after being reccomended it through nina at the shawgate farm guest house. We were very lucky we arrived on steak night 2 steaks and bottle of wine for £25 which was amazing. The portions were huge but luckly we can eat alot . The staff and locals were very friendly. I visited recently with some family. The food was delicious and the portion sizes were fantastic! Definitely good value for money! We were made to feel welcome throughout the entirety of our meal and got regular checks from the front of house staff to check that everything was ok with our food. I would definitely recommend this place to everyone!
