An absolute hidden gem - lovely food and service. Really clean. Very welcoming and retains old world character in a very smart comfortable environment. Really worth a visit.

This was a lovely venue, small and cozy. We went for dinner and the food was amazing, great quality, a variety of dishes available and wonderful puddings. We will definitely be returning. Not the cheapest place but value for money definitely

One of the best kept secrets in Hampshire. Down a long road in Denmead lays the Fox and Hounds. This was the second visit for my wife and myself but this time with my sister. The sole member of front to table staff greeted us as if we were returning friends. The atmosphere was warm and inviting and our meal was perfect.

When for my (adult) son’s birthday (wanted to eat somewhere that wasn’t your typical pub chain) can not fault it whatsoever. Service was excellent with very welcomely and friendly staff. The food was extremely delicious and a wide choice (so much so my husband wanted to go back the next day and try something else) . The restaurant service was brilliant and prompt. I can’t find fault and will definitely return soon. Highly recommend!

Sad to see such a nice pub so quiet on a sunny Saturday lunchtime, there was only one other table when we arrived although garden was busier by the time we left. Service was a bit slow, as appeared to be only one server covering the bar and restaurant. Extensive menu plus a specials board which probably makes little economic sense. Bhaji starter was dish of the day, spicy and delicious but could have served less mango chutney, mains pork belly was tender but a bit heavy on the black pepper sauce, burger and fish & chips were fine especially the chips. Duck off specials board less successful skin wasn't crispy and flesh was grey and tough, raspberry jus needed to be sharper to match richness but dauphenoise was delicious. Banana bread & butter pudding very sweet but light, affogato served in a coffee cup was difficult to eat with a dessert spoon and the hot coffee and cold ice cream should be served together. I would suggest making the liquer optional (at a supplement) and serve with a biscotti or something for texture. The pub has a great reputation for its food, but being so quiet it lacked atmosphere, which is a shame.

Banging vegan Sunday lunch. Lentil and mushroom roast was soooooo tasty. Could’ve eaten another if I wasn’t so stuffed. Very reasonably priced perhaps even underpriced. Will definitely be back, thank you team!

Family meal for 7. The service was fantastic, very friendly staff in a lovely cosy pub setting. The food was outstanding, I sometimes find it hard to find something that excites me but there were 4/5 things I couldn’t choose between. I went for the lamb shank cottage pie which was absolutely delicious. All of the family commented on how much they enjoyed their food. We will definitely be back.

off-the-cuff visit so rang an hour before. very pleasant lady answered and said they were a touch busy at 7.00 but could book us for 7.30. We arrived early and sat drinking wine outside in the sunshine. Wondered in at 7.30. good choice of food on the menu plus a specials board. The food was good, friendly staff, and reasonable value and we'll return again.

Took the wife recently for a date night and must say this place is a gem in the Hampshire countryside. The food was served with a smile and tasted delicious. very reasonably priced too. (I had the belly pork..yum) We ate the lot and left very happy. No issues whatsoever. highly recommend.

Not for the first time, we had an amazing Sunday Roast dinner. The staff are friendly and welcoming, the food and service was superb, we simply couldn’t fault it. Definitely a place we will return.

An attractive country pub on the outskirts of Denmead with a bar at the front and a restaurant at the rear, connected by open archways. As well as a "standard" menu they have a fairly extensive specials blackboard. The house ales are very tasty, and the food that the 4 of us had was universally acclaimed as very good. The young barmaid also carried out the table service whilst we were there and she was very friendly and efficient. Definitely a pub that we shall re-visit.

After re-visiting after a long time away for a nice evening with food. Unfortunately this was not the case. I have to say the two ladies working on the bar/serving were very nice and polite. The starters were nice but when the main meal of rib eye steak came out covered in peppercorn sauce but totally inedible due to being so salty. When our complaint was reported the chef (who was the landlord which we did not know that at the time) he eventually came to our table and said is there a problem. We informed him about the horrible salty steak, where he then stuck his finger in the sauce and just shrugged and went hmm. Then said what do you want then? His whole attitude towards my wife upset her so much he made her cry! He asked if we wanted a new one which we said yes please. She got a new steak with no sauce as we didn't want to risk it. The food was pretty good but the service was awful. I will be telling all my friends and family direct and on FB not to go there . A sad ending to what could have been a lovely evening meal. The landlord needs to address this otherwise the fox and hounds will lose a lot of business if others get the same service.

Lovely Mother’s Day lunch with family; food was delicious, they were great with my toddler and service was good… our waitress was a lovely young lady whom I believe is called Georgie, she was working twice as hard as everyone else and made the experience extra special.

Wonderful Sunday roast enjoyed every mouthful. I had the belly pork and my partner had the lamb shank. Both were cooked so they melted in the mouth. All the vegetables were delicious and the roast potatos reminded me of the ones my nan used to make. The deserts were delicious as well and all at a very good price with friendly service.

This is our second visit to this pub / restaurant. Very friendly staff and great food. Dog friendly in the pub side is a bonus too. Highly recommended.

Had the belly pork which is always good, but instead of gravy it is now served with peppercorn sauce. I like peppercorn sauce, but it was much too hot. Please either go back to original gravy or lay off the peppers.

My eldest daughter treated my wife and myself to our birthday lunches as we'd been there before and enjoyed it. My daughter booked a table at the restaurant which is at the back as opposed to the bar area. She was advised that there was a large group coming in but just for drinks. This was fine until they all arrived and it wasn't just for drinks, they were having a meeting and discussing plans and as we felt inhibited from talking while this was going on my daughter asked if we could move to the bar area, this request was granted. Orders were taken and I was the only one ordering a starter, my favourite, fried white bait and calamari, followed by cod in batter with chips and a sort of pea pie. The starter arrived and I was surprised to find the whitebait was coated in batter, not seasoned flour. It was OK but the batter did take away the flavour of the fish somewhat. The main courses arrived after I'd finished my starter. My wife had lasagne with garlic bread and a small side salad and my daughter had a vegetarian linguinie with mushrooms and a garlic sauce. My cod and chips arrived but instead of a light, crispy batter over the cod and peas it appeared to be coated in concrete and that's what it felt like. It totally spoilt the meal for me and although I managed to crack the outer casing open it just wasn't fish and chips as I know it. I struggled to eat it but had to leave some but I didn't complain as my daughter had paid for it and I didn't want to disappoint her. My wife and daughter were happy with their meals and in the past I have been happy with mine. I don't know if it was a change of recipe or a change of chef but it certainly wasn't something I want to ask for in future.

Went to Fox and Hounds for a birthday meal with my family. Food was amazing - greatly surpassing all other pubs and restaurants I have been to in the area. I strongly recommend the specials, which have been very imaginatively thought through with quality ingredients: lamb cutlets and mint gravy was fabulous, and the other members of my party enjoyed theirs too. An added bonus is that it is very good value for money. Staff were friendly and welcoming and the atmosphere was great. Would thoroughly recommend this pub to anyone.

Four of us ate at the Fox and Hounds for lunch recently. The food was delicious all four of us agreeing it was a very good meal indeed.The reason I have given four stars rather than five, is because the service was rather slow, waiting far too long for coffees after the meal, taking the shine off what was a very good lunch. We will certainly visit the pub again soon as I'm sure things will be better.

In a party of five, myself and one other had the Sunday roast pork option. The amount of pork provided was minimal and very fatty.. The board indicated the meal would be served with greens, red cabbage and carrot/swede mash. There was a small dollop of carrot/swede and stacked with the red cabbage was the greens... green cabbage.

Dined here for a joint family birthday on the back of other family members experience and glad we did too. The pub has a modern take on the traditional country pub decor but still remains cosy and welcoming. Pretty busy for a Thursday night so a nice ambience. A varied menu with a very good choice on the specials board left me the problem of having too much choice to choose from, opted for the chicken nasi goering as it's unusual to see on a pub menu. Really glad I did as it was delicious, perfectly spiced. Only criticism would be that the crispy poached egg on top could've been runnier. Everyone else's meals were spot on, the steak and Stilton pies being no the standout dishes. Puds were good and we had good, prompt service throughout. Doombar was in excellent condition.

We decided to try The Fox & Hounds as a last minute decision, it turned out to be the best decision we have ever made! upon arrival we were greeted with very friendly landlord and staff. The pub itself is very well set out and decor is great and also dog friendly. The roast dinners were fantastic and nice big portions. Then the sweets came.The cheesecake is a must. The service we had from the very friendly staff was also superb and they really cant do enough for you.We will certainly be coming here again very soon.

A Friday evening is always a busy time at this popular local pub, but despite this we were served quickly by a very pleasant, friendly member of staff who was also attentive throughout the meal. The four of us each enjoyed a delicious, tasty meal washed down with good wine and some good ale.

Visited twice recently after a 3 year gap. The food is nice, it’s a nice pub nicely done out. Prices and choice all ok, except...The recent 2nd visit saw two of us opt for the G&T; jelly dessert, which was a huge disappointment. Why put this on the menu if you are not going to deliver? The jelly was ok, but a really measly measure of ice cream (not even a scoop, just a scrape), topped off with a lone strawberry. Definitely not worth the price, so avoid if you visit. a shame as the other courses were all fine.

We use this pub a few times each year. And until now has been excellent.

This was a family gathering to celebrate big birthdays on a Saturday lunchtime and it was perfect. We had exclusive use of the back section of the pub and the garden outside and the whole occasion was very relaxed and enjoyable. Considering there were 25 of us choosing from four or five options the chef and the team did a brilliant job of serving us all hot, tasty and beautifully presented food quickly and effortlessly. Very impressive and definitely recommended!

This is the first time we have visited the Fox and Hounds which has a good reputation and we were not disappointed. Although it was a Tuesday evening there was a nice atmosphere in the bar area. On arrival we were given a nice welcome by the lady behind the bar who was doubling up as front of house. My family and I decided to initially visit the Fox as we had heard/read so much about it, we were far from disappointed an excellent establishment that we intend to use as much as we can, it's a real shame that the pub is not closer in walking distance as I know that we would become very regular.

Have had meals here before always good and tasty, this time with my family as a birthday treat, staff attentive and friendly, found the starter and meal beat me, had no room for a desert, large portions, well presented and cooked good value for money. Went for a birthday celebration meal and wish we had stated home. Should have realised when I phoned to book and got a rather gruff and abrupt response saying "just turn up and you should be ok". On arrival got the same reception from man at bar although a young lady who was rushed off her feet was more friendly. Not impressed with food either, chips were really overdone and selection was not great especially for vegetarians. Will not be going back.

Visited for Saturday lunch with family - bar area unexpectedly empty but very few staff so greeting was a bit off hand. 5 people were made to sit at a table suitable for 4 in an almost empty room. However waitress was friendly and drinks promptly brought. Good choice on menu plus specials board. Décor is quirky/shabby chic but very clean including toilets.

Booked this pub for lunch with friends and we were not disappointed-the food is freshly cooked, beautifully presented and tasted lovely.

This is a lovely pub very well maintained and clean 8of us when there for a meal we all had to agree that it was some of the best food. We had eaten out in a long time all home made and nothing to much trouble to make sure our meal was as we wanted it . So if you want a good home style cook meal give it. A go you won’t be disappointed.

We visited the Fox & Hounds for a family lunch in the summer and vowed to return for dinner. We made a reservation for later but before we could visit we received a phone call advising us that they had a party of 80 for the restaurant but we could eat in the bar area or we could cancel. We decided to cancel and book a later date. When we called to book again it was a Wednesday and they had a group of banjo or ukalalie players in the restaurant but there was room it the bar area, must remember that Wednesday night is music night. We arrived early to make sure we could park, this appeared to be a good idea. Service was good and so was the menu. I noticed that my comment on TA about lack of vegetables with my meal had been addressed, so they do read the reviews and act upon them.

My wife, son and I were looking for a country style pub that served a decent Sunday lunch as our cooker had just turned up it's toes. Searching the reviews we decided on the Fox and Hounds, we were not disappointed the meal was served fast by friendly staff and the portion my wife had was twice as much as she normally eats ( my son and I done the gentlemenly thing and baled her out). I had Topside of Beef which was really tender. We will be going back for seconds in the near future.

4 friends had a Saturday evening meal there. We had a pint to start with a starter, main meal and a sweet all came to £104. Not cheap but worth it as the food was good, served on warm plates and all together. by charming staff. bar has a good selection of ales.

We were really looking forward to having a meal here after reading the reviews. The pub itself was nice with a friendly feel but the food let it down. The Hampshire rump steak was fatty and chewy, the chips weren’t crispy and the pepper sauce was poured over everything. Everyone who had the steak felt the same. The belly pork was also not a hit, we would not go back.

Dropped in last week with our contractors who treated us to lunch, was surprised to find for a Sunday lunch that the place was almost empty.

The Fox and Hounds ukulele group had dinner here 32 of us ,we could not have asked for more, the restaurant went out of it's way to make it a good night , food was 1st Class. Many Thanks to Steve and his brilliant staff.

What a lovely find. Food was fab. My Sister in law had the salmon and I had the steak and stilton pie both delicious. Reasonable prices. The lady behind the bar was very friendly and helpful. Food cooked with love by Kieran. We have not had a bad meal here. Always receive a friendly welcome by Steve and his team. The food is restaurant quality and imaginatively presented. We love it as do many other regulars.

Top marks to both the chef, and our waitress Jackie, for making a family birthday at the Fox and Hounds a fantastic evening. All the food came out in very good time with nobody waiting, everything was correct, and more importantly it was all piping hot even though there was 14 of us at the table. Jackie was was entertaining and polite throughout – nothing was too much trouble for her – helping to get ready the birthday cake that we had brought to the restaurant. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the food which was of a high standard from the burgers on the main menu, to the amazing slow cooked belly pork with black pudding and boulangere potatoes with veg on the specials board. It’s not my first time eating here but I feel they deserve a review after such amazing food and great service. The food is priced reasonably, don't expect cheap pub grub here but equally it is not too pricey. Any more expensive however and they would be perhaps going beyond what's expected from a pub, even a good one such as this. Highly recommend this place for dinner out as a couple or with family.

When I went to eat here with my family I was delighted to see a good choice of staple mains and also additional mains on the specials. I chose the salmon supreme, it was delicious, a solid 7/10, when choosing the dessert we were very excited, however, we were very disappointed, I shared the brownie which was more like a dry chocolate washing-up sponge, not good. Eat here but avoid the dessert.

Nice to be welcomed as old friends, even though this was our first visit. Superb dining room, decorated lovely, attentive service and also extremely amusing. Food ordered and it was delicious; Salmon with mustard mash, Haddock and chips; Pork belly - followed, of course by desserts, equally lovely, relaxed atmosphere, no rush, just totally on the ball. Had a family meal here recently. I understand they have a new chef. My parents usually find something to moan about when eating out. So when they described their Sunday roast as the best they’ve ever had eating out then I guess that says something.

Saying farewell to my sister, her husband and daughter as they went back to NZ after visiting us. I asked my other sister to recommend a place to eat as I was a bit out of date with the local pub/restaurants as we tend to just eat at restaurants now. She recommended the Fox and Hounds at Denmead as she had eaten there recently. 1215 meet as they didn't open until 1200. A lovely sunny day, what more could we ask for. We received a friendly welcome and all 7 of us were soon seated inside. They do have outside seating but as it was hot and sunny and most of us were in shorts and T shirts discretion was the better part of valour. We ordered, some from the menu and some from the "Specials" board. Spoilt for choice, I had calamari and fried whitebait for starters with a dip followed by lambs liver with bacon, onion and mashed potatoes with a lovely gravy. An observation, not a criticism, I would have liked a few veg with it. Others chose salads, pies, ribs and fish and chips. Large portions all round so nobody wanted deserts. The bill was very reasonable for such a fine meal and the service was excellent. Definitely worth another visit to try more of the menu.

We are four past our sale dates, who have lunch together every week somewhere in Dorset, Hampshire, Wiltshire and West Sussex. Today’s visit to F&H; was one of our very best experiences for some time. A great welcome from Jackie but not full in the face, we were told to find our own table and she would be over shortly. Which gave us time to settle and take in the lovely atmosphere of the dining room very tastefully arranged. Hey!!!! We haven’t got to the food yet and was already enjoying ourselves. Next the americano and the Irish black stuff was very good but the best was to follow , three of us had “the calves liver” the other got stuck into the “ BBQ Ribs”, to really be honest it was a hard decision on what to have the choice was wide ranged. Never mind it gives us four or five more exquises to re-visit and sample the rest of the menu. Have I made it clear this is fab place, one of the best , cheers all, Mike and Co

We have enjoyed two Sunday roasts at this pub and both have been excellent. Fresh vegetables, delicious meat and hearty gravy. The waitresses are helpful and friendly too which makes dining a pleasure.

Been here a few times now and every time the food and service are excellent, great choice of beer as well.

I wrote a review a while ago saying that the food was a bit dry. Went again with mum and dad and chose the cottage pie this time. It was delicious! My dad and husband had pie of the day which was also amazing and mum loved her chicken and chorizo.

Decided to give the Fox and Hound a try after a recommendation from friends.i must say we were very impressed we received great food and great service and we will most definitely be returning.The roast beef dinners were spot on,loads of melt in your mouth roast beef,veg,roast potatoes,giant Yorkshire pudding and top notch gravy.The deserts were also very tasty with a special mention to the sticky toffee pudding and ice cream which was delicious.so if your round Demmead way I highly recommend you give the Fox and Hound a try.A traditional old fashioned friendly country pub.
