Food was shocking for the price, half was just onions and service non-existent

What a disappointing experience. After checking reviews, we drove over an hour to meet my sister and nieces and nephew for a Sunday lunch here. The atmosphere was off from the get go, the staff at the bar had weird attitudes and almost seemed like they didn't want us there. We should've left then but we didn't have time and it was our first time in this area. The first dish came out 15mins later; then the rest of the food took about an hour to arrive. Then after all that, they forgot my nephew's order altogether. We asked multiple times during this time and each time we were told someone would chase it up; no one did. There was no apology from anyone other than the lovely waitress (it wasn't even her fault!). It was a complete joke and I'm not sure how they have such good reviews with that ridiculous service. The quality of the food was not worth the wait.

Decided to stop by on the way home on the Sunday afternoon. Typical Sizzling Fare, however quite a few items on the menu were not available. It would appear that the time we booked for our stop was not the best time for getting the menu choice. Staff were ok and tried to be as helpful as possible under the circumstances.

Warm and kind people! We received the kindest treatment from the lovely lady at the Fox and Hounds. We had problems with our car last night and were very fortunate to pull over in the pub car park. Despite being after closing time, we were invited into the pub to call the breakdown company. With two young children, this was a huge relief on a cold and rainy night. She couldn't have been any friendlier and made our girls feel very special, offering them drinks and snacks. It made a situation that could have been very difficult feel manageable, and was fun and memorable for our girls. Thank you - we're very grateful for your kindness. This is a warm and cosy pub, with the most friendly and welcoming staff.

Well it’s been a while since we’ve been here and I have to admit that we were all pleasantly surprised. The food was excellent as well as the service. The Manager said that it had been an extremely busy day and that her team was quite new but this did not in anyway deter our experience. We will definitely be back again. Well done 👍👍👍

Best restaurant round Grantham, best value and great food and staff

Really friendly village pub, just for a pint or for a lovely meal. Lunchtime and evening menu. Good selection of well prepared delicious food. Sunday carvery. Christmas meals available. We like it so much we are having a family lunch on Christmas day.

Brilliant Friday lunch at the Fox & Hound. Went to the Green Man the other day, this was even better - and cheaper! Great food (we had the steak and Gyro), great staff, Nina was lovely.

After a lovely time visiting a few months ago, we decided to come back and have throughly enjoyed it, really friendly staff, food was brilliant too and will be eager to return again soon

We were made very welcome, great that the children were encouraged to enjoy toys and books and also, given we were 11 in total party, really good that the children recieved their meals first ( which they thoroughly enjoyed) and we were all served shortly after. Lovely to be given the conservatory space too. A perfect end to our family meet up day.

Food was lukewarm and obviously microwaved. Hunter's chicken was like a congealed mess of rubbery cheese on top of a dried up chicken breast with about 10 cold chips. Not fresh. Wouldn't recommend and won't return.

Board said a 20 minute wait for food, waited over an hour. Other customers were also waiting a long time for food. Food wasn’t great. Chips missing from my meal, I asked one of the bar staff for them, they still didn’t bring them out. Overall poor service and food.

Visited last night (25/1/2025) for a birthday meal for my wife, there was four of us with my two grown up sons. One son had that big curry meal and he was well happy, the rest of us had steaks. All of us requesting steaks cooked from medium to very well done. The food was fabulous. The steaks are served on metal skillet type plates that stay very hot on a wooden board. Then we had desserts and they were lovely too. I had 10% discount for being a veteran too and the prices are great value. Can't fault the Fox and Hounds to be honest. The service was pretty fast and the servers were all smiles and nice too. We will be back.

We travelled out to have lunch as it was open on the sizzling pub website to see a note on the door upon arrival saying closed all day for staff training. Im sure this was planned in advance Need to update online and let paying customers know.

Went here today, worst carvery I have had here, meat was tough and the food was cold, we had dinner at 1215

We have been going to the Fox and Hounds for a few months now with my elderly father-in-law and are always welcomed heartily. They make us feel so special. We all love to visit the Fox and Hounds because of its family feel and the ambience. To be honest, it is always our first choice of pub when deciding where to go. The food is reasonably priced and always good. We have never had a complaint about the service or food. Well worth a visit.

Rubbish if you're not a meat eater.

Food cold not advised there was no main menu and carvery had items missing due to demand. They started serving food at 12pm and we were booked for 1pm

The service was great. We had never been before but booked it based on a good reputation for its carvery and it did not disappoint.

Staff that served the food to the table wasn't polite - one saying ere are to putting the food on the table. Out of 8 meals, 2 were dry and cold and didn't come with what they ordered, with 1 being sent back and not didn't want a replacement. The chips were very salty. With a salad bowl meal, the salad only had a few pieces of cucumbers and tomatos and what looked like half a lettuce, the chicken was also dry. 2 lasagnes were the better out the meals and the last 2 were ok. The side of onions had to be asked to be brought out.

One dish was incorrect when the food came out. ..cold but overcooked. This was sent back but when it came back out the second time it was still cold & so the cheese in the burger had not melted. The bread was also dry & unappetising. 1 meal turned up later than everyone elses. The meal which was overcooked/dry etc was sent back straight away & was offered something else but kindly refused and asked for a refund. This was honoured & the 2 employees were really polite & professional. Such a shame about the food. The other members of the table felt similar about some of their dishes. Some were better than others, overall 2 stars. All 8 of us said we would not return based on the food unfortunately. The restaurant was very quiet with maybe 1 or 2 other tables occupied & it was rather cold in the restaurant so the atmosphere wasn't great either as some of us were cold.

Great pub! Went down hill for a while but thought I would give it another chance and so pleased I did .... Believe there is a new Manager now who knows what they're doing! ... Food was great lovely atmosphere and the staff were brilliant shall definitely be going back again very soon 🤗

We really enjoyed our meal here. Katie and Jake both did a great job in the kitchen, our food was delicious and our American friends said their burgers tasted like home! Stacey and Jess were also great, serving us with warmth and humour. I'll definitely be back.

What a joke no central eating tonight on. Food was the worst food of ever tasted in my life there. My wife add a hair in her food. My food should have been gluten-free. But it wasn't I was so poorly in now after having it. I will be making a complaint with the health and food Hygiene people at Grantham.

Appalling. No heating, everyone sat in coats. Food took over an hour to arrive. When it did it was cold, & one of the four meals still didn’t arrive. Completely lost any appetite by this point. Refused to pay for the two adult meals (one cold, one didn’t come) & instead left to grab a packet sandwich from somewhere. It’s not even like it’s freshly cooked food. Absolutely awful, ruined a long distance family meet up. Gutted.

Thought it was a really good pub, the atmosphere and staff were very good, can't comment on food as I didn't eat.

Dog friendly pub and dog has a bowl of water before we even had a chance to order our drinks. Friendly staff good value food and drinks and quite a large area for dogs to sit but if visiting and worried about a seat book ahead just in case. Would recommend.

All of the meals were excellent. steaks were cooked to perfection. Service was excellent and all of the staff were very welcoming.

The food was fine but the service and time taken for part of our party was awful. We had booked a table for 5 (including highchair for 2 year old at 5pm. We ordered separately at the bar. The first 2 meals were served within 30 minutes and we expected the other meals soon afterwards, especially as we had a toddler who was hungry. The first 2 meals were finished, with toddler eating some of the chips. Others who arrived after we had ordered received their food and it was well over an hour after the food was ordered that the final 3 meals arrived. The place was not busy at all so why the long wait and orders being served out of turn? The pub felt cold as there was no heating on other than in the toilets. Staff seemed to be lacking and no one came round after the food was served to ask if everything was ok

Not good on a Monday afternoon, fruit and veg selection very low.

Great staff provided a friendly welcome. Lunch was served promptly and was very good overall - our party all ordered something different and were all served together. Quiet when we visited around Noon. Would recommend 👌

This pub was kind enough to let us stay here last here last night in our motorhome on the way down south from Yorkshire. We had a hearty burger which was very tasty & a very peaceful night sleep tucked in the corner of their carpark. Happily come here again, staff were lovely & very welcoming. Thanks again 👍

Food and service great, atmosphere relaxed. The only negative was the fact that all beer/ale pumps were not working or beer was not right (bar persons explanation). I would visit again with family, but please sort pumps out as these are a staple for any country pub, particularly with a Sunday lunch - 8/10.

Had a wonderful time with my family. Food was great. A bit of wait on food but that's expected since we went Saturday night. Overall would recommend!

New management, tasty food ( not many vegan options), friendly staff.

Went in for a drink and meal by myself. The staff were smiley and chatty. They didn't mind me sitting at the bar to have my meal and drink as I was on my own. The food was great, just what I needed after a long day at work. Nice big portion of salad and Halloumi, side of southern fried chicken which was perfectly cooked. Really enjoyable and good value for money. Chatted to the bar staff which was nice. Very friendly staff and nice atmosphere all round.

Jess and Charlie were amazing chefs, food was delicious! would fully recommend going here for a meal with family. staff are rlly sweet :)

Would give them 0 stars if I could Staff unhelpful had booked party of 7 people when arrived was told sit where you like had to find a table and extra chair sat in the conservatory. Had drinks ordered food on looking up conservatory blinds stained and dust and flies behind them same in lampshade floor dirty . Waited over 30 mins for starter when sharing platter arrived was burnt dry and cold .No way could the chicken have been Temperature probed you couldn't get a fork in it. Men's toilets closed Grandson had to use the disabled one Urine on the floor . We refused the starter got all our money back and left . This was a Birthday party group . Oh then Bingo in the conservatory we weren't told that when we arrived. Evidently the Chef has left we learnt . Was a 4 point score from food hygiene in March 2024 . Suggest they visit again,that Conservatory wants knocking down or given a thorough clean Staff not helpful at all .

Booked a table for a birthday celebration. Went to the bar and said who we were, to be told that they don't bother about bookings and to sit anywhere. We were a party of 7, so had to sort out our own tables. Ordered food, after 40 mins I went to the bar & asked about how long they'd be, they were brought out burnt & cold. The conservatory was absolutely filthy, stale food on the floor and chairs, menu's were stuck with sauce etc. The staff's attitude was disgusting and lacking in customer service, the lady behind the bar looked like she had been gardening!! Won't be returning. Certainly needs a good clean & staff training needs looking at!!!

Booked a table for lunch online, which was very easy to do. The pub was clean and very homely. The lady and young lad who served us were both friendly and helpful. The food was plentiful and delicious and my 5oz steak was one of the best I've ever had. My friend had a mixed grill and couldn't eat it all as there was so much food. There were some great deals on wine and cocktails and I wished I didn't have to drive. We will definitely go for lunch again.

Since new management me and my friends decided to visit the fox and hounds at old somerby and the food was fantastic , beautifully cooked meals for each of us and the service was so friendly and welcoming, I highly recommend going there with friends or family for deliciously cooked meals and a wide range of variety, we will definitely be going again . Well done to all at the Fox and Hounds .

I wanted to write this review after reading the last one. I completely disagree with that persons comments. The staff were lovely, kind, attentive, welcoming, respectful, friendly, accommodating, thoughtful. Food was great. From app order to plate delivery was super speedy. I can’t comment on the atmosphere as when I visited it was very quiet. Thank you for being so kind to my dogs and I :)

Food not good hot chocolate very waterery would not come back again

It was quiet but the staff didn’t seem in any hurry to do anything including serve you. There was a distinct lack of beer selection ( Tuesday afternoon) there reason being they’d had an event on Saturday and we’re still waiting for a delivery. That said, staff were friendly enough prices seemed very reasonable and the food was very nice. Overall a good experience

Where to begin. Honestly the only reason why I have given service a 2 star and not a 1 is because there was a young waitress and waiter who was very apologetic and all round very friendly. However, The other older waitress was very rude and had an attitude which me and my family did not appreciate at all. We waited well over an hour for cold and a poor of an effort food to put it nicely. The chips were very salty and stone cold my grandma couldn’t even finish eating it because it was so salty, there was no lemon with our fish/ scampi, same with the coffee, onion rings and garlic bread, the photo of the burger speaks for itself (the onion ring that was supposed to be in the burger wasn’t and we had to order a side!) . I can’t even say that it was busy because there was 6 tables in use, 3 of which ordered after us. The rude waitress said reserved tables take priority when in actually fact we reserved the booking in the first place! And just to top it off there was a mouse running around my feet and under the table plus a few flies flying around our drinks and food! Honestly so so disappointed with the food, lack of communication mainly. Definitely not worth the money. Also barely any veggie options so wouldn’t go if you are, luckily I am pescatarian so had scampi.

Booked a room for a family event. Buffet food ok but no plates or serviettes provided, which I thought was a bit off.

Very disappointed with the new menu setup of Carvery only before 2pm on a Sunday, expecially when the go for a carvery to find the beef tough, frozen vegetables and instant mash, not to mention cold. I certainly won't be returning or recommending. This wouldn't have happened in Joe's day

We stopped last night in our motorhome. Very friendly and helpful staff, lovely food (reasonably priced) and dog friendly. We had a nice peaceful night tucked up in the top of the car park, I would definitely recommend!

A lovely country pub, part of a chain that needs some love.We have tried this place several times,during the 6 yrs of living near. It needs a heart it needs love it needs the staff to care about ever aspect. Flowers in summer, Fires in the winter, and gravy that doesn't stick like (imagination).Never give up I'll try again next time it changes owners.

Just awful. Had the Gyrow, very poor. A few small pieces of chicken, some salad, mint dressing and chips. Honestly could do better food in Asda Cafe. No real distinguished taste and the wrap was so tough couldn’t cut or chew ir.

Stopped off for a drink, whilst on a motorbike route. Great location for a stop, plenty of outdoor seating.

Had an amazing Sunday dinner. Delicious and very good value for money. Will definitely eat there again. The pub has a lovely atmosphere, staff are friendly and helpful. Loads of room to sit outside as well. Highly recommend

First visit and sadly the last. Husband had fish and chips and the fish was very thin. My gammon was the flatest I have ever had and cooked to the point of being dry. The dark haired lady with her hair tied back, collected the plates and didn't bother to ask if everything was ok. And the least said about the smell in the gents loos, the better. It's a shame because it's a lovely pub. Oh and maybe invest in some napkins

First ever visit to this sizzling pub today, had a lovely meal for lunch and was made to feel welcome from the minute we entered. Lots of choices on the menu, a few deals to choose from especially if you have the sizzling app. Nina the new manageress went the extra mile to accommodate my meal requirements. Upon leaving i met the chef and other ladies that were working and all had a smile on their faces. Will definitely go again and would recommend for a meal if your passing through 😊

Dropped in for the first puppy outing to have food. Dog made very welcome even though he was a little restless. Food was good we arrived late on just before kitchen shut.

I had been recommended to visit by a friend. To be honest I was a bit disappointed. The food was nice although we did ask if carvery was still on with a reply it's only what's left over there!. The restaurant felt a bit unloved. Plus tables not cleared. One of the waiting staff had a sweatshirt tied round his waist whilst serving. Went to bar to order more drinks. Service was slow. Also member of staff at end of bar eating their lunch. So overall food nice but probably wont be back.

Staff and drinks were fine. There were 4 in our party we all had something different. We visited a couple of years ago and the food was excellent, the food this time was best described as poor. Almost everything was over cooked to the point of cremation and everything not over cooked was cold. Food service was slow so we did not complain as did not want to wait another 30mins. Restaurant was half empty. We will not be returning to this restaurant.

Mains were over cooked and not great in general but deserts were decent. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Good menu choice; burgers good as is the fish, scampi, chips, and steak others had. Service was good, food good. Not very busy but fully booked for Fathers Day. Can recommend. Plenty of car parking and seating outside as well
