Fox and Hounds in Eastleigh

We had a lovely family meal, tasty food and brilliant service from Shannon who was very friendly and chatty. Lovely surroundings with log fires and twinkly lights. Adults and children both happy, we'll definitely be back! Thanks Fox and Hounds

Shannon looked after us all evening with the best service. We were advised of a half hour wait on food straight away which was fine and drinks orders taken quickly. Food was cooked well and tasty. Definitely coming back again soon.

Shannon looked after us so well, such a fantastic waiter! Thanks so much for the giggles, it really made our evening! Unbelievably great choice of gluten free options for my step dad who's coeliac, very rare to find. Main course was average (pie), but the salted caramel sundae dessert was utterly delicious!

Edit 20/2/2025 - My comments below still stand but today we were really disappointed with the service; when we arrived we were advised there would be a 30 minute wait for food, no problem. Our drinks order was taken very quickly and we werent ready to place our food order but we had to wait around another 20 minutes before our food order was taken. We ended up waiting in excess of an hour for our food which really wasnt ideal as it was around 2pm, we were both very hungry and short on time. The food was delicious but the delay impacted on the rest of our day. We also noted it was cold in the restaurant and only partially lit, another, nearby table also commented that heating wasn't on and they were cold too. We used to visit here many years ago when it was 2 pubs, the fox & hounds and the Lone barn. First time I have eaten here since and despite reading other reviews saying it had lost its charm, we were impressed to still see the stone floor, huge active fireplace, and it's attractive vaulted ceiling. We arrived at 5pm without prebooking and didn't really expect a problem but there was a bit of huffing and puffing over table availability. Apart from large gatherings for birthdays, etc, we haven't needed to prebook since before Covid. Luckily we were found a table for 3. Service was very good and the food and drink were excellent. *** RE latest visit - update We visited again today and had a wonderful experience. We were well looked after, especially by Gabbie, who took our order and waited on us perfectly. Our food was faultless and delicious and I think our starter (Chef's Board) was quite possibly my favourite starter of all time!!! I also had the Mixed Grill and this was equally filling and tasty. Topped by the friendly service and general ambience, I strongly recommend the Fox & Hounds and plan to return.

Had a perfect meal with my partner for lunch today. I had the steak ciabatta and he had he had a hunters chicken type meal. We both had the chicken strip starter and it was amazing. For the quality of the food, definitely worth the price. Highly recommend. Thankyou to our server Shannon

We have always had a lovely meal at the Fox and Hounds and tonight was no exception. We were celebrating a birthday and they came out singing with a free desert for the birthday girl. Very nice atmosphere good old fashioned pub. Our waitress Shannon was lovely.

Lunch for 4 to celebrate a 60th birthday (and forthcoming retirement). Green King accept Defence Discount vouchers, making the meal very good value. Food excellent, atmosphere good (although a tad on the cold side in the great hall) and the service was excellent. Ample free parking on site. Ellen, our server, was cheerful, professional and attentive, but not overbearing. Lovely experience.

Lovely food and excellent service by Shannon. She did all she could to make our visit as good as possible.

We are regulars and as always the food was great. Ellen our server was welcoming, friendly and accommodating to our specific needs especially as we turned up without a booking on a busy Sunday lunch session. The only reason for giving an overall 4star review was the temperature in the barn area was cold however I'm sure it would of warmed up as the turned up the radiators and lit the log fire . Well worth a visit

We have been here a number of times for a meal. On every visit the food was amazing and staff were friendly and attentive. We shall definitely be going again.

We just recently moved to the area and are over the moon that we have the Fox and Hounds just a five minute walk away. We went breakfast for my partners birthday and it was perfect. The service at the Fox and Hounds is friendly and attentive without being intrusive. Thank you for a lovely experience Tony.

Lovely breakfast this morning served by the lovely Mary. Really helpful and understanding of my daughter’s food allergies. Nice atmosphere sat warming up by the fire. Would definitely recommend.

The buffet was all carbohydrate.

A great pub with very tasty food. Having first been sat in the barn which felt quite cold (next to the stone walls!) we were relocated to the bar, where Ellen very friendly and helpful. Alerting us to a half hour wait for food after we'd ordered, my wife had to ask for her roast to arrive as soon as possible as she is diabetic and had already given herself insulin for the meal. Happily this was accommodated, with a smile and understanding. Many thanks! The food was very nice and plentiful. I expect we will be back, as our son is at University nearby.

Gab and Mia were really friendly, helpful and attentive. They looked after us really well.

Had booked a table to celebrate my 60th birthday, with people from work.The food was excellent and the staff were really great,even coming out singing happy birthday to me, Shannen hope I spelt it right, who looked after us was fantastic and really looked after us.will definitely be coming back again. This was the first time that we had visited the Fox and Hounds. We were in the area visiting friends. It was a cold and miserable day, but as soon as we entered we were struck by the cosy, warm atmosphere of the pub. Many pubs are saving on their heating bills but, luckily this one did not follow the trend, and it was a pleasant and warm place to be. It was fairly full and there appeared to be only two staff. Tony and an Irish lady (who's name I didn't get) and I was worried that service would be slow. In fact service was excellent and the food was different and very good. The service from both of them was fast, friendly, professional and efficient. All in all I would recommend the Fox and Hounds as a great British pub. Only downside is that the approach road is quite narrow but, obviously that is not the pub's fault. Recommended.

Great food, although my husband asked for medium rare steak, but was more medium. Lovely friendly staff as always. But this was probably a one-off as we've never had this problem before

We had a lovely evening - staff friendly and efficient, lovely ambience and food delicious. We often visit and are never disappointed.

Good parking and pretty building but poor service and food. Service on arrival was Spartan but eventually a friendly lady showed us to our seats. We waited 10 minutes for a waiter to arrive and take drink orders. Given the lack of apparent staff we ordered our food at the same time which arrived in a timely way. The food was disappointing. It was late on a Sunday but the vegetables on each of the 6 plates consisted of a small portion over overcooked cabbage. 1 lucky dinner got quarter of a carrot but the rest of us were left envious with our austere offering. The mushroom wellington weirdly had silver skin onions init which was odd but not entirely unpleasant. The burger was the best bet. The food was served in a hurried manner and no eye contact. She was young and apparently just so we tipped regardless. Real shame. Was meant to be a nice family meal and we left feeling I could have saved the money and done something MUCH nicer at home. There are other much better places to eat near by. Unless this was not representative of their usual fair!!!

Our servers Shannon and Sarah we’re brilliant and the burns night menu was absolutely amazing and the cost was responsible.

I had the belly pork which I sent back. There was no crackling, just lots of congealed fat. Quite horrible. I was offered to change it and I then had the pie. This tasted very nice. However it obviously didn’t suit me as I was awake half the night with stomach cramps and visits to the loo.

Food was disappointing, quite tasteless and chips were undercooked. Also ordered a burger without cheese for allergy reasons but it came with cheese, although it was rectified pretty quickly. The decor is nice and cozy with a wood fire burning, probably perfect if you're just coming for a drink.

Roast dinner lovely, but final order of a hot drink took 30 minutes to never arrive. Cold room, but not much can be done in the lovely old building

Went for Sunday dinner.service not good waited 50 mins .the real ale not great not probably looked after I drink real ale all the time the dinner was warm when it arrived.and not enough gravy.wont be going back.

Came here for my birthday meal. Our waitress/duty manager Ana T & Alex were super lovely and very attentive. They even surprised me with a small chocolate brownie to celebrate my birthday. Highly recommend this place.

Terrific, varied and tasty menu. On my last occasion the service was not up to scratch. But a Well worth a visit, especially in the barn.

Had a lovely lunch, great food and service. Lovely traditional building, wooden beams and open fire. Being a cold day and the table booked for 12pm, it was a bit cold but the fire was lit and I am sure it would warm up.

We managed to get our booking wrong and turned up and the kitchen was closing at 9.00 we arrived at 8.55 with a 9.00 booking am So happy they accommodated us and wow Shannon our server was so lovely as was the manager fitting us in. We had a fantastic meal the mushrooms in garlic cream on sourdough bread amazing, friendly staff served by Gabbie who was bubbly and friendly. Lovely to sit by an open fire

Only deserves two/three stars for Sunday food and service. Terribly disappointed. Our first visit on Boxing Day was superb, the food was great and the staff chatty and friendly. Today's meal was below standard, vegetables and roast potatoes partly cooked from packets. How hard is it cook some vegetables and potatoes? We definitely will not return again, shame after our first experience was so good. Interestingly we didn't see the manager working today, maybe this had a knock on effect with the miserable staff, although they seemed friendlier to the locals. I would be cautious asking for anything vegetarian, I had quite a curt response. I chose the mushroom Wellington, which is just their usual mushroom pie, it is average brought down by the shop bought frozen potatoes and vegetables. Such a shame as we were looking forward to spending more time and money here, sadly that won't happen now.

Two "difficult" customers walked into a pub and had a lovely meal and experience 😋 I was so happy to be given a menu specifically for people who eat gluten free... no faffing around trying to find the options and no guilt for asking for exceptions. Perfect! The food was lovely too. And my friend who is vegetarian had lots of options and thoroughly enjoyed her meal too.

A lovely pub in a wonderful building. Good excellent and helpful, friendly and lovely staff, especially Sarah who was a brilliant host, and Shannon who was also great and made us laugh! The food was, as always, excellent.

This pub is an absolute gem. The food is outstanding—everything was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The rustic barn ambience adds so much charm: cozy, inviting, and full of character. A special mention to Sarah, our waitress, who was absolutely brilliant—friendly, attentive, and made our visit even better. Highly recommend this place for a great meal and a warm atmosphere!

After playing some golf, a friend and I came here for some lunch, we certainly discovered a new place for food as it was👌🏻. The menu was traditional yet catering and the portion sizes were excellent. We were a bit underdressed because it was rather nice there, no one seemed to notice though and the staff were very friendly. We took the opportunity to sit and talk and enjoy the fire Whilst the food was being prepared. Really enjoyed it.

Lovely atmosphere, the food wasn't brilliant but ok. The staff made up for this with an excellent service. Took my adult children out for a treat and we all loved the relaxed atmosphere. Highly recommended but if you are asking for top quality food not recommended.

Group meal out and Ellen (our server) was fab & friendly. Overall the food was lovely, couple of meals weren’t quite as hot as expected but it was busy in there. Would recommend for good hearty pub food. One member of the group had dietary restrictions and although there was an IPad it was confusing on what was impacted or not.

What a warm welcome we had from Ellen. Very friendly and attentive the whole evening. This kind of hospitality is what brings us here week after week. The food, as usual, was delicious and there is a good range of drinks, although I’d live more dark ales). Everything at great prices. We came for a Xmas meal with the family. The festive menu is really good with a lot of choices at a reasonable price. The welcome was very warm, (as usual). Our server Keira was truly fantastic. Very friendly and so funny, yet professional. This kind of service is what brings us to this pub so often. Perfect evening.

We booked for breakfast with Santa, what a lovely experience, we go every year with the grandchildren and always enjoy it, Santa is brilliant. We enjoyed our breakfasts, very tasty and great service, staff very friendly especially Gabs who went out of her way to help, great place and lovely Christmassy atmosphere.

Had our annual Christmas dinner here 1/12 and have to say it was really disappointing. We were pretty much left without anyone checking on us therefore we did not get hardly any drinks. Food was Luke warm and not remotely a Christmas dinner, no sprouts or pigs in blankets, apparently they are now “extras”. One tiny parsnip and one carrot! And everyone’s plate full of peas! Our extras we paid for never arrived. Yorkshires burnt as was our veggie meal. Then 2 puddings we had pre ordered in September were sold out! This was our 10 th year here and probably our last. Saving grace were nice staff who gave us a discount on our bill. We only get together once a year so was quite upset that it wasn’t as good as previous years.

We went on Sunday as a part of of 6 ( 5adults 1 Child ) we were greeted warmly and shown to our seats Infront of a beautiful fireplace in a festively decorated bar area , we were introduced to our waitress Ellen who all though out the meal was brilliant engaging with our little one and always around when needed but not so much that it was to much , we sat down to a delicious Sunday roast i had the Beef rib which fell of the bone the food was fantastic we will defiantly be returning in the future.

We went to Fox and Hounds for my mum's birthday meal at lunch time today. It was absolutely lovely. Ellen was extremely upbeat despite the restaurant being absolutely packed. There were multiple large groups in for their Christmas meal but Ellen did her best to make sure everyone was taken care of. She advised us that there would be a delay on mains which was fine. The food was definitely worth the wait, everything was superb. And the dessert was best of all. My mum and I ordered the "melting festive bell" and the staff had put it on a cheese board for my mum, with happy birthday written in chocolate and a little tealight for her to blow out. It really made her feel special they completely went the extra mile and made it a fantastic meal for all. My parents haven't been here in almost 40 years and will definitely be coming back. The venue was also decorated beautifully for christmas with a roaring fire in the grate.

The food was good and it's decorated in a cosy Christmas theme. The service was a little bit slow but as my friends and I had lots to catch up on it didn't matter too much. We all ate from the Christmas menu.

The pub is lovely once you have found it. The service is good and we were served by Alex who was just great. We went for the festive lunch but while it wasn't expensive at all I would rather pay a bit more and get the food quality better. The starters were delicious while the main and desert were quite frankly...boring.

We had the Christmas menu. Starter was good as was the dessert, but unfortunately the turkey main meal had the appearance and taste of warmed up leftovers. Very disappointing.

Have had good experiences here in the past but sadly will not rush back after this visit. Overcooked pie and salty as was the mash. Other plate of turkey roast was tasteless and vegetables undercooked. Roast potatoes more like scalloped. Nice pub, pleasant staff but a great disappointment.

An amazing pub, great ambience, friendly staff and the food was amazing. Mia stood out for us, she over heard it was my birthday and went the extra mile making it special by organising a birthday treat for me. I can’t recommend this venue enough and we will be back.

Poor service waited for drinks for 15 mins & over an hr for the food!! I would have been nice if we were kept informed about the delay in the food!! Kept out jackets on because it was cold 🥶

We just had a delicious lunch - the atmosphere is fantastic, it’s so christmassy and cosy, the food was delicious and Dee was incredibly friendly and welcoming. Highly recommended.

Wasn’t given a menu until we asked for one. Then it took nearly 45 minutes from placing to being served. When it did two of the meals were over cooked and dry. My meal had a slice of bloomer which was still frozen. The steaks could have been used as shoe leather and the chips were cold.

Perfect meal tonight followed by the perfect Irish liquor coffee that was crafted to perfection by Ana T Ana and the team looked after us tonight and as always the food and drinks were amazing ( especially the Irish liquor coffee)

The food was amazing Would like to say the same about the service But unfortunately I can't Very slow ,at one point while we were waiting I could see 5 staff standing chatting and not even sending a menu to our table As there was only 2 of us We were given 4 kids menus and 4 festive menus But no sign of the normal menu
