FortySix in Ryedale

I was on a visit to Malton and needed a snack and a coffee. I saw the FortySix cafe/bistro which looked so pretty and was right on the Market Square. I couldn't decide between having the scrambled eggs, blueberry porridge or pancake or waffle stack. In the end I chose a tea cake which arrived with warm homemade jam plus cream, a really delicious combination. The service was friendly and thoughtful and it was a wonderful experience, I will be visiting again

We went for Sunday lunch and the food was amazing and was such great service. We were lucky enough that it was their second year anniversary and they had a singer on who was great. I would 100% recommend this as a place to visit.

The butter roast brill with lobster was absolutely amazing.

Very mixed bag, I have been for breakfast which was great no issues here. The next day booked for dinner….where to begin. Paying any price for food is never an issue, but for the first time in my adult life and visiting over 300+ restaurants that unfortunately it is extremely over priced for “tapas esque” dishes. The price of the tapas is what I would expect for a main course in a medium level establishment, the issue is it’s half or a starter size and upwards of £15 per dish (realistically you need 6) . Unfortunately guys you are not in London or in a major city, cater to your audience. The food is ok but people come here due to the obvious lack of eating establishments in the area. I hope this review is read by the owners as to survive when other restaurants open there needs to be a reduction of 20-25% per dish easily. Would I eat again. No as it’s no way in a million years good value for money and anyone can go into York and pay half the price for much better food.

This was our second visit and like the first we'd driven 2 hours from Liverpool. Menu for brunch was excellent and food again was top notch. Really lovely meal. Many Thanks

Food was delicious, interesting and the best we've had for a long time. We were visiting Malton and if we ever visit again we'll certainly be back. A sharing vegetarian starter/platter would have been wonderful. Thank you.

How has it taken me so long to go here for Sunday lunch?! Had heard great things but it exceeded my expectations! Absolutely superb Sunday Roast, and I’m a bit obsessed with them!

Very tasty. Lots of eggs in menu. Egg on my meal was as I like it but not running down as as an egg Benedict should. But hey the mexican flavours out did that. Tasty!!!!

We stayed in Malton on a short break and booked Forty Six due to the reviews we had read online. We weren't disappointed, the service and the food was excellent. Our food was delicious and well presented.

Nice visit for brunch. We had crispy beef flatbread, Shakshuka, Pancakes with bacon and syrup, and Leek & Potato soup. Overall the food was very good though the pancakes were a little strange (very spongy/cake like) though tasty nonetheless. Value 4/5 as it's not at all cheap (i.e over £8 for an egg sandwich).

Excellent 1st time experience but wont be my last!

We rang to try and book on a Friday for that evening. The ladies were very friendly and helpful, and to fit us in! The staff are lovely, the atmosphere is lovely, and the food was fabulous! Thank you very much. Started our weekend in Malton perfectly!

The food here is so perfectly presented that it’s almost difficult to imagine it could taste as good. Oh but it certainly does!!! The sticky chicken is to die for! Definitely recommend Bar46 for it’s amazing menu and relaxing atmosphere 💯

Brunch menu is limited and misleading. It is essy to think the small plates menu, which looks superb, is available all day. All of the best reviews are for the small plates only limited to the evenings only, Massively disappointed holiday maker

Lovely restaurant. Food was great and very reasonably priced. We had the “small plates” (which is a bit like tapas) and got to try quite a few different things on the menu. Would defo recommend 👍

We came for Sunday lunch and had the roast sharing board which came with beef, lamb shoulder wellington and loin of pork with crackling as well as all the sides. Unfortunately the beef was very dry and overcooked and the potatoes weren't crispy and were cold. I did like the pork and the cauliflower cheese and creamed leeks were excellent. The food came out quickly but the service wasn't overly attentive and at times, they seemed uninterested.

Innovative menu with meals to share. Fresh produce cooked with care. Perfect presentation. Friendly professional staff. Desert Flower Pot was amazing. could even eat the chocolate pot. Definitely would return.

Superb Sunday sharing board and topped off with the desert board. Food was excellent, service attentive but not in your face, value for money was excellent.

Three of us had Sundy lunch. Qwerty way of serving it - all meat and Yorkshire puds and roast potatoes came on o e plate. Veg came separately. Food portion sizes and good value tasty food. Worth a visit.

Cant sit at at table at the front, with everyone else....cutlery on table was excuse...poor customer service in my mind..still wanted your 30quid for drinks..

The first Sunday lunch I've had where you don't choose which option but actually receive a bit a everything! As a veggie I had three veggie mains with tons of different veggies made dairy free for me. I also had two dairy free Yorkshire puddings and roast potatoes. An absolute feast! We did manage to share a dairy free pineapple baked alaska for dessert which was delicious. My partner enjoyed his three meats and kept changing his mind about which cut he preferred. We'll return to try the mid week menu.

Many of our words go unspoken and many of our thoughts go unheard but no great resturant can go unnoticed like Forty-six. Me and my wife visited here for our 5th wedding anniversary on the 29th of June 24. We are not ones for fuss so didn't mention to fortysix on our booking. The vibe inside fortysix is quant and customer orientated with modern hints dotted around ,it is well presented, comfortable with nice dining equipment and is really clean and tidy. There was some nice acoustic and vocal tracks in the background to set the ambeonse of the dining areas with lovley glass fronted windows in the resturant were you can watch the world go by in the lovley little Market Square. We had awsome front of house service from the staff, very well done clear, consistent and friendly all the staff make good eye contact with smiles when talking and engaging with all customers nothing is to much trouble for them very professional and no atmosphere between the staff and they all looked relaxed and were enjoying their work. 👏. I was very impressed the table was wiped down and disinfected between our courses this shows me great standards and commitment to their customers. Massive Complements to the chefs and kitchen teams the food here is phenomenal the dishes we had were some of the small plates/ Specials these were sublime and my words do not do them justice. Taste, taste, taste!!! The ingredients is very well cooked and beautiful presented it is freshly produced and all the dishes are balanced and well thought out with great contrasts in textures and flavour combinations. They all came to our table piping hot and seasoned well to our liking and every table in there was the same on observation watching the meals coming in to the restaurant from the pass. We have eaten in some high end Michelle star restaurants round the UK and this is on par with these if not better! In our opinion. You need to go and experience for your self. Lovely food. All 6 of us had no complaints. We had 5 different dishes from the brunch menu. The staff seemed a bit disinterested when we arrived, but things improved as the afternoon progressed. Recommended.

We had Sunday lunch in the private room upstairs for my husband’s 60th Birthday with our family - a superb choice of venue .to start our afternoon we had drinks outside in the sun in a lovely courtyard. The upstairs is perfect for a private get together and having the toilet on the same floor is a bonus for the oldies and little ones too! The Sunday lunch boards are amazing the meat was so tender and such a wide range of delicious vegetables . The staff are so friendly and work so hard to make it such a great experience taking our drinks orders and getting all the food out at the same time . They put the birthday cake on a board and piped round it without anyone asking all the lovely extras. So a big thank you to Bar 46 and their team for making it a truly lovely afternoon .

Well worth the five stars. Excellent food, superb service, and lovely place. Coming again for sure.

We had dinner here and the small plate “Tapas” menu was delicious. Good value for money, very tasty food and friendly and efficient staff. The location in the market square at Malton was great for nearby bars etc.

By far the best Sunday lunch we’ve ever had at a restaurant! The sharing board is so good and made for a really lovely birthday treat! We have also brought home a dessert sharing board boxed up as we were stuffed after the meal but desperately wanted to try the desserts!

Best Sunday lunch i have had in years

Me and my friend booked on a Sunday afternoon via their website, in hope to try their Sunday roast. It did not disappoint!! We ordered a rum & ginger beer (would recommend) and a Sunday roast between two which was 20pp. The Yorkshire Puds were very impressive and the whole roast was served on a platter with side plates. It was beautifully present and the service was on point. We both really enjoyed our visit and would recommend to anyone visiting Malton. We are already talking about our next visit to try something else of their menu 😍

If you're looking for something different for brunch that isn't a crazy price, this is a great place to come. The pulled pork sandwich was really good and there is a huge selection of gluten free options. The food was a little slow coming out but it was worth the wait!

Lovely feel in this place with a warm and friendly welcome. Great menu and wine list. We had the seafood sharing platter which was generous and so well cooked.

The food was absolutely lush. We had small plates of chicken, lamb, pork belly and beef brisket bao buns… all were stunning. The sides were lovely too especially the green vegetables. Lovely atmosphere, really attentive and friendly service. Wish we’d visited sooner… we will be back! I’d really like a Pinot Grigio on the wine list though.

An amazing find in the heart of Malton This was our 2nd visit to Forty Six - Malton , the first visit was to sample their fantastic variety of small plates , the service was fantastic, the food was amazing and the ambiance second to none , the new owners have got this place just right , they ooze innovation and provide a relaxed atmosphere whilst running a busy restaurant. Our second visit was to try the Sunday Sharing boards , a board of 3 meats , roasted veg , roast potatoes and homemade Yorkshire puddings, this comes with 4 dishes of extra veg and a nice rich gravy boat . Dessert was also a sharer , which although full from the main course . We managed to polish this off too . An amazing find in the heart of Malton ... we'll definitely be back .

Nice family get together upstairs. Service was slow, but that was ok as it was a busy day and we were all chatting. Feed was presented lovely. I ordered the chicken shwarma salad. Very little chicken. 3/4 green salad and then some colourful bits. Didnt tell me there was red chillis in there, very spicy. So removed those. My tea pot came. Looked lovely. Tea was luke warm. I didnt complain i just drank it. But actually loved the presentation and food was lovely. Staff friendly. Place clean.

We went on Christms eve so unfortunately they were only serving brunch. That said it was top notch grub. We all had something a little bit different and none of us were disappointed. Would recommend. Fully intend to go back for Sunday lunch as that looks (and rumour has it) amazing.

Went to FortySix for my birthday meal on a special trip to Malton. We had a fab evening. The service was excellent, the food impeccable and imaginative. It was everything we hoped for and more. They went above and beyond to cater for our seemingly never ending requirements - vegetarian, nut and alcohol free. Instead of saying you can't have this this and this, they said we can adapt this this and this. Very rare these days, and really made the difference between us having a good meal or an excellent meal. And it really was excellent. Thank you!

Great food (surprisingly so). We loved the duck and fish courses. The desserts were creative. Pardon peppers, a bit soggy but overall an excellent meal.

We’ve eaten here on an evening - food is fantastic! We didn’t think it could get any better but we were wrong - we went for Sunday lunch today and it was amazing. Definitely the best Sunday lunch ever - beef, pork, lamb Wellington, roast potatoes, carrots and parsnips on a board plus 4 other veg. Then various tasters of heaven - wow! Can’t praise the establishment enough - Ollie and Gemma put their heart and souls into the food and the serving staff are quick, efficient and friendly. Love the place.
