We had a takeaway. My meal - Crispy Chicken in Cointreau and Orange Sauce, was terrible. The chicken was so tough and stringy. Could not eat it.

Having read some of the latest views we were expecting something special but this restaurant for us was a definite No No. None of us enjoyed anything on the meal for three. The starters were poor and tasted as though they had been warmed up, the yuk sung was ok but the main courses were awful the crispy beef could have been crispy anything it was crispy but nothing in side, the prawn dish we left as the prawns did not taste fresh and all in all we felt they had not used quality products. We will not be returning

Fortune Inn is definitely one of the best Chinese restaurants in Solihull! The quality of the ingredients is always high. The cooking is good and tasty. Have been going here for over 18 years now. Have tried others and always come back to Fortune Inn! Thanks for the excellent food Fortune Inn! All the best! The Khan family!

Myself & my partner visited the Fortune Inn for a Valentines night dinner. There were 2 fixed menus available, a vegetarian & a meat/seafood one. I pre-booked & spoke to Peter who was very helpful when I explained that I didn't eat meat but did eat fish & other seafood. He explained that I could mix the 2 menus. Anyway, when we arrived the whole restaurant was decked out in a lovely Valentines theme, with balloons etc. Peter said that I could change any of the vegetarian dishes to another dish on the alacarte menu, which I did & ended up with 2 tasty king prawn dishes & 1 fish. There was so much food it was amazingly good value & my partner ended up asking for a doggy bag. I would definitely recommend the Fortune Inn, both for the delicious food & exemplary service.

We came here for a special Valentines set menu, and it was perfect. Attentive staff, and the restaurant was beautifully decorated with balloons and hearts, it was a lovely evening. The food was simply delicious ,sizzling prawns, duck, crispy shredded beef and octopus dishes all cooked with amazing flavours,so moreish. The quantity of the meal was also perfect Highly recommended, we will return

We ordered a takeaway on New Years Eve and were delighted with our food as always, we have been customers for years it is the best Chinese restaurant in the area, just a little sad though that the Sunday Buffet has not been served since before Covid Pandemic would love to have it back.

I have viewed only a couple of poor reviews. I have to speak as I find. I am a regular here, that doesn't mean I'm just going to big them up...that said I just cannot complain. The geezer could cheer uo a bit but really the food is quite good. It is difficult finding genuine Cantonese now that generation are older and returing. Their kids don't want to do it and so mainland Chinese are buying them up. Unfortunately the standards aren't the same. However this place is very good and I'd recommend them.

We had a table for 10 for a family birthday celebration on a Saturday evening, early in June 2023. This is a family run restaurant and the food was great and the service was good. We were celebrating my father’s birthday, and took our own cake. The staff were very accommodating and happy to bring the cake out following the meal, and play the Happy Birthday music which was a nice surprise ! Thank you for looking after us, and we look forward to returning in the near future.

Absolutely dreadful. No prawn in prawn toast. Main courses had no flavour. I’ve been to probably 30 Chinese restaurants and this was the absolute worst.

Had a takeaway tonight, ordered a sweet and sour chicken Cantonese style with egg fried rice. When I got home and opened it up, they had put battered balls in the sauce. The batter was hard and chewy and the chicken was dried up. It should have been Cantonese style! Dreadful meal, went in the bin. Won't be visiting there again.

The Fortune Inn has been around for what seems like forever. Paid a visit last night for what was the second time ever. The restaurant is what I'd describe as very traditional, no airs or graces, no hint of trying to create hackneyed scenes of the Great Wall of China. The Fortune has a well deserved reputation for good Chinese food and is probably worth booking on Fridays and Saturdays.

We had 2 portions of sweet and sour chicken balls which were extremely dry and bland. The sweet and sour was so watery, like it was from a tap. Crispy chicken that tasted like fish!

Overall the experience was good. Food and service okay but my problem was the very restricted area provided for diners to help themselves to the buffet food, Not enough space at all, very difficult to avoid bumping into other diners.

Chicken with Chilli (Szechuan style) lacked all the ingredients that make szechuan flavours an absolute delight.

The food was average and the service was just ok too. The Szechuan style chicken did not have a single Szechuan pepper in it. Will keep looking for authentic Chinese in the area!!

After all these years the quality of food and service remain excellent. A great menu selection cooked & served beautifully

As Chinese takeaways/reasturants fortune inn has always been one of the best in the area .not sure its quite the place it was but still one of the best around.spare ribs and duck pancakes are top along with the special rice which is a meal in itself .will continue to enjoy its extensive menue.

Dined as a couple, the food was well presented and cooked as expected, good portions, helpful friendly staff, nice interior and comfortable seating, reasonable prices.

A friend and I made the unfortunate decision to eat here when we could not get a table in the highly rated Fukuoka across the road. The best thing about our whole meal was the complimentary prawn crackers at the beginning!

Came here for Sunday Lunch, for my granddaughters birthday there were 11 of us. The food is made in small batches so the food is always fresh. There is a wide choice prawn toast, ribs, chicken satay the usual starters all delicious. There are duck pancakes, yuk sung also curry's, noodles, rice, mussels to say but a few. Then for dessert Banana fritter and ice cream all for less than £ 10. really good value and great food. would recommend.

Arrived with door locked. When someone finally let us in there was no nice greeting and no warm welcoming.

We have just had a takeaway from The Fortune Inn. Normally we really enjoy their food but tonight it was very poor. The chicken, what there was of it as it was mostly batter was tough the vegetables were undercooked and almost inedible and there wasn't as much in the box as usual. The birds nest was thick and full of congealed fat again almost inedible except for a tiny amount on the edge softened by the veg. All in all we were very disappointed as we usually really look forward to it. Come on Fortune Inn this isn't like you at all what's going on!!!!!!

Excellent food whether you eat in or takeaway. Their sweet and sour fish is marvellous as is their deep fried mongolian lamb. Great place to meet friends and enjoy lovely food.

Have been to this lovely Chinese a few times and 1st time tried the Sunday Buffett. It was very good and the staff very professional and attentive.

We've started eating here once a month and really enjoy their vegetarian set-meal. The space is comfortable and homely although. The service could be friendlier but at least it couldn't be described as intrusive! Nice food, nice setting.

The staff were rude on arrival, and generally business like to unfriendly the rest of the time. My starter was awful. The mains average to poor. They were extremely slow. A good hour between courses. And are expensive.

we went here on a whim, couldn't find any buffets for Sunday lunch. was a bit apprehensive when I got outside as it looked a bit shabby. after going in and taking our seats I was pleasantly surprised by the standard of the place. very welcoming staff. we had a buffet lunch for £9.80 each and it was well worth the money. the food I have to say was fantastic best I have had in a long time. not much choice but prefer quality over quantity anytime. will be going back next week love it.

Came here for dinner with family. The service might have been a tad slow, that's just me being picky. The food was great, I had the chicken and chilli, which was hot but very very nice. Everyone else's was lovely from their comments. The desserts were gorgeous although we got worried slightly when the flambé wouldn't go out, but perfect when it did.

we visited here for the first time today and we were really impressed.I had emailed them regarding the buffet and I received a promt replyregarding price and times.we arrived and were seated, drinks ordered and then off to the food. the food was lovely. Hot and quite a good selection. there was plenty of food and it really was nice.we have lived in the area for 6 years and never knew about this hidden gem. we will definatley return for Sunday buffet again.the staff were helpful and the pricing is just right

Fortune inn is still one of the best Chinese reasturant in the area,to sit in or takeaway its very consistent.on this occasion we went for the t/a option and were not disappointed.ribs first class as was the aromatic duck ,king prawns in black bean great .my go to option for Chinese food

Went yesterday for dinner....Had some starters and then the mains, despite all the food being correct, we coildn't find anything outstanding.Exactly the same kind of food you could have at a takeaway,but a lot more expensive.And the worst part was the delays between courses... 10 min between startes and dimsums(we were told it would take some time for the dimsums) then another 15 min for the mains and at least 15 more for the dessert... All in all we spent more time waiting than eating.We won't come back.90£ 2 adults, 2 children

Booked for 7:30.Restaurant busy but we were not rushed at all. Had the table for the evening. We ordered a selection of starters yuk sung, chicken spring rolls and pork dumplings and all were good as were the mains. I had sizzling cod soaked in a satay source and served with ginger and spring onions and it was excellent. Starters 4 mains,2 sides, bottle of wine, two pints of larger and a bottle of water came to £76. Would recommend.

I took my mum here for a meal a few weeks ago and forgot to do my review as it was very good. I had duck and my mum had a chicken dish and then we had a few sides to share.The staff were very nice and welcoming and the resturant is nice inside, with a relaxed atmosphere.The nicest thing was although the resturant was quite busy (an it was a Tuesday) which I guess shows how popular it was, we were not rushed at all the staff even bought my mum a second coffee when she asked for one after our meal.Nice chinese food in the Solihull area and as an extra note you can park your car in the carpark behind the resturant after 17:00

We visit here a lot as a family & have never been disappointed yet. In our opinion it's the best Chinese food for miles! The food is always consistently good & what we really like is they don't seem to use MSG or if they do it must be in minuscule quantities. The service is good although a couple of the older members of staff could be more pleasant....! My favourite is the steamed halibut with ginger & spring onions, delicious! Would definitely recommend & we almost never book which is great for a last minute family dinner. They also do a great all-you-can-eat buffet on a Sunday until 5pm too.

Anyone who loves chinese should try the Sunday buffet at the Fortune Inn we have been several times and always found the food to be excellent, plenty of choice and as much as you want at both the 1 o'clock and three o'clock sittings. They also do takeaways again plenty of choice and just as good as eating in. Would thouroughly recommend!

Started to use this restaurant again after a few years and was really impressed with the quality of food, however the service was shocking.They dropped food on my trousers and my wife's foot, with no apology, they did not ask us how the food was, they do not know how to smile, did not bring out all the food at same time, so other people on our table had to wait for there's .and finally when the bill came over could not make head or tail of what we were paying for. Very expensive and will not be going back again

Once again we found ourselves eating out for a birthday, the food was poor or though plentiful. The price was also a bit steep for a restaurant of this type.

I travel to this place and every time its been worthed. Even with the grumpy waiter we always find a way to have a lough but the"" boss "" and waitress are always nice and there to help.Duck, beef and fish are my favorites.They are clean and good at their jobs.thanks for another lovely meal.

Delicious food, wonderful starters, bargain buffet on sunday lunch. Traditional 'chinese' decor, clean and smart. Can get busy. Good service. Can accomodate large parties. A bit expensive but the set meals are very good value. Full bar available. Plenty of parking to the rear.

Booked in advance for my partners birthday. When I asked if they could do something special for her or make a fuss of her as it was her birthday, they said they don't do that sort of thing. We went in to be faced with a stony look from a waiter who showed us to our table. We ordered and got our food but no smiles and in fact the staff looked miserable. That was until one of their regulars came in to dine, then their mood changed to happy. They were sat next to our table and the same waiter was laughing and joking etc with them. Paid a premium price for a poor experience. Nice food but with the service. Left feeling like we were an inconvenience to them and their regulars.

I visited with my family on a saturday evening. The food was very nice and plentiful, the price was reasonable. The service was a little slow but ok. The only thing that lets the restaurant down is the decor as it is a tad old fashioned.

This unscheduled visit was a pleasant surprise. The restaurant is much bigger than the front entrance suggests. However, the restaurant was empty at 7.30pm on a Thursday night which was a bit worrying. The staff were very friendly and showed me to a table next to a radiator, which was a wise choice. Having studied the menu and dining on my own, I decided to select dim sum dishes. The food came quickly (no surprise there, with only one other lone diner eating.) I enjoyed the dumplings but they tasted like they were from frozen rather than freshly made. Overall I enjoyed the meal but some investment in the decor would probably attract some more customers. The front entrance and window look a bit shabby.

3 of us went here for a late lunch buffet at around 2pm the food was lovely and the staff were very attentive. For me the best Chinese take-a-way in the area and well worth stopping in if you have the time

Having not been to this restaurant for years (bad experience) my family, all chinese food addicts, decided this was the place to go for mom's 91'st birthday for the Sunday buffet. I was not happy to go.Well what a change! Staff wonderfull and attentive and the food incredible. A huge range of food. So many starters you may not get to the main courses. Main courses were fresh, regularly checked and replaced. Plates cleared as soon as you had finished a course. Nothing was too much trouble. An excellent meal which I will now repeat, probably next Sunday. I can not make a Sunday dinner for the cost of the buffet. Highly recommended.

I visited here with my husband - it was an impromptu visit on a Monday night and when we arrived there was only one other party. We were not welcomed by the member of staff that served us, merely silently directed towards a table (not even a smile!!)The miserable waiter's mood did not change - when we asked for more information about how a dish was cooked he laughed and whilst I pursued the matter he still did not offer any advice nor offer to find out. Our starters were nice but the mains were a little disappointing. What shocked us both however was how our waiter's mood changed significantly when a party who were clearly regulars arrived!! As far as I'm concerned the service is just as important as the food - we left disappointed. I wouldn't recommend this place.

As always a warm welcome followed by first class food and excellent service from the regular team which has worked here for some years now. Food is delicious and kept warm with candle lighters. Good value - for the four of us with drinks £76.

Have been to this wonderful restaurant for nearly 10 years now and never had a bad meal.Staff excellent and food is just to our taste.Takeaway very good but of course never as good as fresh cooked.Always a super experience.

Second meal here with group of friends and same result. Staff weren't very welcoming and were preoccupied with take away orders but obviously they have to deal with it.I nearly got overcharged for two drinks, accidentally on purpose maybe.Some of the main course dishes served for our party were rather frugal and not worth the £8.50. Rice dishes were more plentiful, well rice costs little.The frontage looks a bit shabby and it's ironic that I took a photo of it to put on here.Some might say why did I bother going, well it was more about the company.

Very often have takeaway food from here. Delivery takes about 45 mins unless you order as soon as it opens. If you are the last on the delivery run its not very hot. Telephone staff are always polite. Food is tasty but sometimes the chicken tastes as if it has been re-heated. I really like the chilli chicken it's very yummy. Plenty of choice on the menu and prices on a par with other Chinese takeaways.

This is our favourite Chinese restaurant but we haven't been for a couple of years as we have been out of the country.Booked a table for four at 7.00 pm Saturday.The food was nice as always except for the snow flake duck.The waiters were pre occupied with taking orders for takeaways.Service was rush rush and after 35 mins the waitress was taking off our tablecloth even though we were thinking about ice cream.Left disappointed

The Fortune Inn has for a long time now served first class Chinese food with excellent service in Shirley, Solihull. Our duck in orange sauce and chicken with cashew nuts and black bean sauce were up to their usual standards and our waitress and the manager looked after us very well indeed. The red house wine is also very good for a Chinese restaurant!

Had not been here for some time but, as before, it proved to be an excellent meal with superb service. We started with pork yuk sung, the lettuce delightfully crisp and the pork tasty, followed by duck and king prawns in mango with noodles and bean sprouts. We still had time for desserts so my wife had the lovely banana fritters whilst I chose the lychees (Chinese gooseberries). All in all an excellent meal and, with two glasses of wine and China tea, quite reasonable at £50 for the two of us.

Our first visit to the Fortune Inn and sadly the last. The food was overly spiced and the chips were over cooked and dry. The staff however were very polite and the service was very good.

We had a small family get together and decided to try out the Fortune inn Chinese restaurant.Upon arrival the staff were very welcoming.The food was very nice and tasty and can't find fault and the staff were very attentative when we needed drinks etc.The only minor faults I,d mention as someone else has pointed out was that as soon as we,d finished eating the meal though several still had drinks to finish and I know would have ordered a sweet had they been asked at that time the table was swiftly cleared and asked to lift drinks so they could take the top tablecloth.It just felt that we were being hurried out so just asked for the bill.But as we were paying by card for the food and did intend leaving a tip in cash was asked if we,d like to add a tip to the total on the card ! But as the total was £98 the cheeky man ended up not getting a tip at all.Saying that I would return again as the food we all had was lovely.

Eaten here over the years but not for a while and it's been good. However last nights take away was very poor. They missed off key parts of our starters and the top layer of the egg fried rice was dried out and crispy, I could not work out what it was until I dug into it...... It seemed like the rice had been pre packed then reheated in a grill before being covered, million miles from soft and fluffy. The rest of it just did not seem fresh. It was clearly a busy sat night but it just seemed most of the food was pre prepared and reheated. That's not clever when dealing with rice!!!

Came here for my partners birthday as she likes Chinese food. I booked that day for that same evening. The staff were helpful and welcoming on arrival. The food was great throughout, the staff were great throughout. We ate, got and paid bill and that was that. All in all, a good night with perfect food , staff etc.

There was a great selection of starters and sauces to go with them, they had been freshly cooked and were warm and tasty. There was a soup along with yuk sung and crispy duck pancakes, with a varied selection of main courses accompanied by fried rice, egg fried rice and noodles. All of this was followed by a selection of sweets eg. Banana fritters. We all thoroughly enjoyed it and thought it good value for money, we would definitely return

Eaten in here once. Food was good but the service could have been better. They seemed really eager for us to finish quickly. However for take-aways this place is great. Have gone out my comfort-zone and tried a few different and varied dishes and they have been consistently good.Try the Mongolian lamb, crispy lemon chicken or the ginger prawns.

After an excellent evening celebrating the arrival of 2014 with a party of friends we decided to go to the Fortune Inn again to welcome in 2015. We were certainly not disappointed. The food as usual was excellent and plentiful, the staff were very welcoming, friendly and attentive nothing was too much trouble. Again after having such a great evening before we left a booking was made for us to welcome in 2016.

Good food but slightly on the expensive side. The Sunday buffet is good value although the restaurant can get very busy.
