Fortune House in King's Lynn and West Norfolk

Food was lovely but service was amateur. Arrived at my collection time and then sat waiting a further 50 minutes along with about 10 other customers who's orders were also all extremely late. It wouldn't have been a problem had I have actually been provided with a realistically achievable collection time for my food. Lots of shouting and noise coming from the kitchen hidden away at the back which was clearly struggling. Communication needs to improve, the apparent situation could have been so simply managed

Got told to collect an order waited 40 minutes in there still not ready as were too busy had to cancel order as people were still waiting with orders half an hour before ours!!! Don’t bother! First and last experience of this place!

Good luck to anyone with allergies asking for certain parts of the food to be kept out, absolutely useless. That is if you have the patience to sit and wait for food that you gave a time for collection to watch about 8 other people walk in and collect straight away and then be last one sat there. Then to find parts of order cold, so safe to say I won't be returning for a repeat performance.

Go to takeaway in King's Lynn! Always a quick turn around and good quality. Would recommend to anyone. Cash only, collection only.

We live almost 10 miles away from this Chinese and therefore we have at least four or five other Chinese restaurants and takeaways in closer proximity to home. However, fortune house trumps the lot. Myself or my wife are more than happy to drive the extra distance for good food. The service is always very friendly. The food is excellent and their portions are generous. ( I’m 60 and have experienced quite a number of Chinese takeaways in my time) and Fortune House are up there with the best of them. G&T

No complaints from me and family when we order from Fortune House, prompt service, great food, this is our regular Chinese takeaway, highly recommend. Please be aware that one slight annoyance is that it's cash only.

OMG, feeling sad really. Not sure what has happened & gone wrong with this Chinese but ordered this Christmas weekend and honestly couldn’t eat it. I was going to return but the children ended up eating the chips in bread. I could honestly say the worst meal ever. The children wanted sweet & sour chicken but when you tried to dip or cut the chicken & they evaporated. Was so worried they could get an upset tummy. Please see picture

It's really nice food but expensive, chicken chowmein, sweet & sour chicken Cantonese style, curry sauce....nearly £15.

Best Chinese takeaway in King's Lynn IMO, never had anything less than perfect, and quick friendly service. Only wish they took card payments or delivered but no matter.

Honestly….. don’t bother if you’re looking for a decent Chinese takeaway. This once trusted, and quality reliable takeaway has gone downhill considerably. Prices here have rocketed and not comparable with other similar takeaways in the area! Meal tonight was definitely not worthy of money paid. Overcooked, dry chow mien, prawns were tough and chips were inedible. Will not be using Fortune House again.

Have reduced the overall star rating due to recent price increases. Food has gone up by 17-20% depending on dishes chosen, which is quite a rip off especially as cash is required every time?? Inflation stands at 10.7% currently so what is this price increase about?

It's a shame that it used to be a good Chinese under old owner. Last 2 times my family have ordered we've noticed that portions are smaller, less sauce and generally not as nice in my humble opinion. We will be trying a new chinese next time.

I started going to fortune house as it was recommended to me by a friend and the food was great. But what really caught my eye was Adam Edris one of the staff members. I have become a regular visitor to fortune house because as soon as I locked eyes with that handsome man I could never look back and have to get my weekly fix of his dashing good looks and excellent service.

called in here yesterday 28/10/2022 first thing was surprised to see large or small portions priced accordingly we plumped for large that in actual fact turned out to be small dread to think how small the small really are so one duck fried rice and one yung chow special fried rice how sad to find just the merest threads of duck and the special F/R faired no better hardly any filling at all just merest scraps of meat chicken and roast pork it contained 1 small prawn so basically what this amounted to is that it was charged £12.60p for 2 egg fried rices disgusting will not call again to be fair though this is the second time in recent days this has happened different shops

First time of using these premises husband had house special curry with fried rice and large pancake roll I had chicken chow mien. In the words of hubby bloody lovely best he’s had for a long time and will definitely be using again.

Use this takeaway regularly. Food is always superb, great flavour at sensible prices with good sized portions

Called on Saturday 29th January 2022. Handed wriiten order together with correct menu numbers. Was charged £22.00 instead of £15.00. The young lady serving me was nonchalent when I pointed this out. Her colleague sorted the problem and issued 2 apologies. Did not receive any sincere apology from the girl who took my order - just a nasty look and a return of written order in an agressive way. Will never go back there again even though the food was excellent. Lots more takeaways in King's Lynn with polite staff...

Wow............I have searched high and low to find a Chinese that does not use reformed chicken..........I have tried many of the recommendations, but to no avail...until I went here........real chicken.a dream.......the food is perfect...and yes I mean perfect! Trust me...try a roast chicken Chinese style...wow...... I have now had two meals from here in the past two weeks...and for those eating with us...they have all said the best Chinese they have tasted!!! Best to order by phone, else you will be kept waiting!!! and even if you order by phone your meal could be up to 30 minutes late...... but good places are busy!!!! Oh yes its cash only,

Great food, good menu & friendly staff.

A decent mixed meat curry with chips, ok hot and sour soup, let down hugely by the tiniest morsels of meat on the ribs (see picture). Hence, can only be scored as average overall.

Brilliant food…. I normally don’t like any local Chinese Eateries. Been to Downham Market and reviewed a Chinese eatery and pretty much gave up on good Chinese food till Fortune House. Dining in options are very limited. 2 parking places outside the restaurant & cash only. Given you as much details as I can. Highly recommended.

Delicious food when you can get it. Tried calling solidly in fact no exaggeration 134 times and couldn't get through. Smoked chicken although nice was v small and expensive. They really need a card option to pay in these times. Health before wealth please

Food is fantastic. Need to pick up speed though. Ordered at 18:30 and wasn't ready until 20:10. Also they don't take card payments and don't deliver.

Great food... just having to wait 45 minutes after the time your food was meant to be ready is a bit of a joke in my opinion. Either limit the amount of orders you can take in a petticoat time period or be honest with the waiting times on food being ready. Commutation between the kitchen and staff out front goes a long way for customer satisfaction.

The food is tasty. But a cash only takeaway in 2020, with virus fears? No, thank you - absolutely ridiculous.

Food is good and taste great. Make sure you check your order thoroughly, as I have had bits missing and had to go back quite a few times. No delivery and cash only 🙁

Best in Lynn. I have tried pretty many of the Chineese takeaways between Lynn & Hunstanton/ mostly on recommendation & have always reverted back to Fortune House. What’s more, it’s not expensive and portion sizes are reasonable. Their selection is vast, the quality is amongst some of the finest I have been to and comparable to some of the more expensive places in London. My kids come up from London & say it’s better than any takeaway we get there & although it’s not close to me, I am happy to travel to collect it. Give it a go & you won’t be disappointed

Very good atmosphere, i came here on a tuesday and there that many people around at the time. The service they provided was really good and could not ask for more. They were very accomodating with my requests as i did not like green peppers which there were none in meal. It was an extremely fast service which came in less than 15 minutes.

Had a take away from here for the first time and it was brill. Cooked well, not too greasy, generous portion of prawn crackers and it was ready in 20 mins when they said it would be. Took a long time to get through on the phone however and the lady was quite blunt but they were very busy. The smoked chicken portion was small, however just enough for one person. The plated food is half of each food we ordered. I will be ordering again for sure.

Been here on many occasions and for me and my Family we think the food is exceptional, always piping hot, fresh and never had any problems whatsoever. Not sure where these other reviews are coming from probably another Chinese restaurant from Lynn that does not get any customers as Fortune House is always busy. Keep up the good work!!!

Only visited this restaurant as our usual was closed. When I got the food home there was clearly an object in a piece of the chicken (first photo) we took it out and found it was plastic, then as my wife dug a little deeper we found a black lump of lord knows what (second photo). When I returned it and asked for my money back I was told they were too busy to deal with me and I couldn’t have a refund, they only agreed to give me one when I told them I was willing to discuss the issue in front of the rest of their customers.....all in all awful, will never go back and have reported them to the fsa

I would say the food quality here is good but you pay for what you get (not cheap.) The fact that they only take cash & don't do a delivery service, for me, reflects on obstinate personalities in business.This was reinforced on my last conversation with them. I phoned to order but first had to tell them that they got my order wrong last time. There was no apology & no attempt to make things right. Then the owner said "Okay what do you want to order?" Considering I WAS a loyal customer giving them hundreds of pounds over the years counted for nothing & they made me feel like a liar. To reinforce "I would like to order NOTHING from you" & won't be coming back.

We order from here on a regular basis and it is undoubtedly the best chinese restaurant in Kings Lynn. Superb and very tasty food. It can get very busy but it’s well worth the wait. Highly recommended.

I dont usually like a chinese takeaway I prefer to eat it in restaurant, but I love the fortune house extra hot vegetarian curry with boiled rice and their super chips.... It,s just delightfully hot and tasty with lovely crunchy veg xx

We phoned through an order tonight, staff were friendly and accommodating as we wanted a bunch of gluten/dairy free items. Not everything could be provided but they helped us out where possible. Collection was 40 minutes later and when we arrived we were told it was not quite ready yet so had to wait around 50 minutes in total. Prawn crackers are given out for free but only when spending £24+ (Our order was £21) so we paid the £2 extra for a bag of them. The food was decent and filling and they’d marked all gluten free items for ease.

Always lovely fresh food. Take away only no delivery service so collection only with cash. We have used this takeaway quite a few times and would definitely not go anywhere else .

Having been here many times in the last few months we have had 2 meals that made us both ill and so will be avoiding at all costs.

I live just down the road and have been pleased with the food all tastes very nice but out of the last 4 orders 3 have been wrong I went back on the 1st occasion and they insisted I did not order the rice I was missing except I ordered the curry dish which comes with rice!!. The 2nd time I was missing prawn toast I rang this time insisted I did not order or pay for prawn toast and again today missing prawn toast I'm not sure how this keeps happening as I tell them what I want they read it back to me. I got out the menu I have dated 2016 added all I ordered with prawn toast bill comes in at £27.40 I paid £30.70 as menu is last years a few things have had a price increase so I believe I have paid for prawn toast but I'm not even going to bother to ring as it seems the customer is never right. And please train your staff to smile they are Serving the general public and a smile goes a long way. We are now going to try somewhere new that serves similar food and hopefully gives a better service.

We had a fab tasting take away, with generous amounts of meat in each dish. Each dish also tasted different which is nice as often they can all taste so similar. The beef with ginger and spring onions was particularly good. The only improvement would be for them to take electronic payment!

On holiday and drove by it so thought we'd give it ago. Must say was really good. Had the normal sweet and sour chicken dishes to be safe because of the kid but my crispy chicken peking style was well nice and a bit of a kick. Wife loved her hot and sour soup and the salt and pepper chips are the best I have ever had and I have ate some chips in the past. I also it be clean, friendly and quick so if your looking for a Chinese while on your Holls give these ago.

Went there cos normal Chinese closed. Over priced for portion size. Hardly any meat in serving all round disappointing. Won't be returning
