Fortune Garden in South Derbyshire

This has been our local Chinese for 8 years now. We have tried a fair few before deciding, ‘you pay for what you get’. Slightly more expensive than others but my Gosh so worth the extra few pence. The crispy shredded beef is so crisp and tastes like beef! The salt and pepper chips are amazing, curries are tasty, sweet and sour chicken never had any issues with, unlike photos. Would 100% recommend this take away. People are always keen to share bad reviews and no one ever seems to sing praises when due.

Can't actually believe the way I have just been treated by this unhygienic dump and its rude aggressive staff! Last Sunday we had a delivery from this place as our usual Chinese was closed. We ordered a selection totalling just under £34. We started dishing up and I noticed a HUGE DEAD FLY in my food, I nearly ate the thing! It was the most repulsive thing I've ever experienced and has put me off Chinese for life! I called and a very unapologetic woman told me they would have to take my word for it and that if I wanted a refund I would have to bring the whole order down to prove it wasn't eaten no apologies no nothing. They refused point blank to collect the order (I had been in hospital so unable to drive after an operation, hence the Chinese treat!) I called back on Tuesday explaining this they said I must return food and come down in order to get refund!! So since then I've had to keep this rotting fly ridden food and today I managed to get down to return it. I handed over the rotton fly infested food and waited for 20 mins with no one giving me my cash or even speaking to me! I then asked what I am waiting for politely and was very aggressively slammed 30 quid down on the side as she thrusted the rotting bag of food at me! I explained my order was 34 pounds not 30 and that I would not be taking THEIR fly infested food with me after THEY forced me to keep it!! she started shouting in non English but I can tell from the tone it wasn't nice, still thrusting the bag at me ! She then said the remainder was delivery charge?!! I'M NOY PAYING FOR A DELIVERY OF FLY RIDDEN FOOD 😂😂 honestly it's completely mad they would think that.. You would think they would be apologising and trying to reassure me this is a one off! I actually wasn't going to leave a review, it has been warm the windows have been open but after the way I was treated, the fight to get my refund, the holding of the rotten food, the 20 mins wait and still no apology at all I really feel its deserved. I would avoid this place at all costs it's pretty obvious by her aggressive overreaction people unhappy are a regular occurance. Disgusting, unhygienic and repulsive, they clearly make it so inconvienient for people to get their refunds that most people don't bother.

the chips are cold and old its a shame as I have used them for years and years but tonight the old horrible chips let the meal down

Used to be a once a week order for many years. Food got steadily colder and greasier. Hadn't ordered for 4 months and thought we would try again. Ordered at 6pm on a Saturday, rang @ 7pm to chase, got fobbed off with an off hand 'its at least 90mins on a Saturday' Rang back and cancelled, turns out they hadn't even started it. Plenty of others in the area that deserve business in a trying time.

Best Chinese in the area and we have tried a lot around swadlincote, we all's have something off the Thai menu as it offers something different from the other local takeaways, give it a gooooo

I have been ordering from Fortune Garden for 8 years and would not order from anywhere else. I have never received a bad meal and the food is the best and I have tried many. Definitely 5 stars and I would definitely recommend.

Always tasty, on time, hot and reasonable value for money. Always quick to answer the phone and during busy times they give a accurate estimate for delivery.

Used many takeaways in the area and I would say this one is the best in my opinion. Food quality is always consistent and tastes fresh. Staff are always friendly, even the kitchen staff say hello if there not too busy

If your looking for good food and delivery too then this is a must.Good size potions and all very tasty too. We have relatives in swadlincote and every time we visit we have food from there

First takeaway from here, was delivered for small fee to Ashby-de-la-Zouch but was fast & food delicious. Definitely will use again.

Ordered 2 portions of chicken balls and they were all red and raw inside and the all batter was uncooked and still sticky 🤮 Definitely do not recommend and won’t be ordering from here again!

Had some really nice meals in Swadlincote . This fortune garden is one of the best Chinese meals had in years . Service friendly . Hot . cooked well very tasty. Enjoyed . We had ribs cooked to perfection . Chow main juicy prawns . Curry delicious . Rice chips great lots of and tasty crispy prawn crackers . Beef / pork melted in your mouth . !!

Always super polite on the phone. We usually pick up as we only live down the road so I don't know about their delivery service but the food never takes long and is always spot on! The satay sauce is my fave as it's really chunky peanuts. Amazing!

Very good quality food, family owned shop, feel like I'm abroad for a bit. Very honest, the cashier realised before me that the change wasn't correct and immediately apologised and coorected it. Food is always so tasty! KEEP UP the good work 👍

Have used this take away many times. Always had a great meal and excellent service. Does get very busy with shop orders and phone deliveries. I think its worth waiting for as food always good

I ordered 1 meal at 18:35, the woman said it would be 30 minutes, an hour later, I rang up to see where my meal was and she said it was on its way. So I didn’t really mind because I understand people run late so I didn’t mind. At 19:45 they rang and told us is their any chance of collection as the staff were very busy, I couldn’t collect at the time as I was busy myself. If they told me this at the time of order, I would have gone somewhere else but I can say I will not be using their service again!

After being quoted up to 45min order arrive 1 hour 20 minute later. Driver pulled up the kerb and onto the grass! When the wife said politely "You shouldn't do that" the delivery driver became abusive and threatening towards her. I stepped in and got similar abuse. We phoned up and complained and got the order collected and a full refund. Won't be using them again

So nice and easy phone call to place the order. Told me 20 mins to collect. Estimated time to collect then was 6.50pm. Still sat here at 7.25pm with food still not ready.... shocking tonight and no discount offered for waiting over 30 mins extra....

Most of the average/poor reviews here seem to be based on service/time rather than food, but as delivery time is never really an issue for us we are rating the food. We have had quite a few different take-aways from here and have rarely been disappointed. Everything is cooked fresh (and in front of you if collecting), the meat and especially the vegetables are all vg/ex quality for a take-away, and the sauces are tasty and nicely flavoured with spices/pulses/herbs etc, so overall we can highly recommend BUT if time is an issue then maybe not for you as they are very, very busy, fresh cooked food is worth the wait in our opinion.

Best Chinese In Swadlincote. The shop is based along the High Street of Swadlincote and also 1 minute away from Morrison.

Food always nice and got although my husbands duck was fatty on the one occasion, great menu and they always accommodate when me or my partner don't have veg staff always seem bit miserable but hey ho one of best chineses in area

I have been using this takeaway for years now. The food is really good but the poor service from the English lady at reception leaves a lot to be desired. When halfway through ordering she just picks the phone up to take an order on the phone with no apology. The attitude of the woman is terrible and really lets this business down I did use this takeaway every week spending on average £25.00 but will no longer return due to this woman.

I have eaten in china town, London, Manchester & Liverpool, and all the normal local takeaways etc.None come even close to the quality of the Fortune Garden in Swadlincote.When I fetch the food the place is so clean and there are many woks on the go to cater for the demand it is a sight to behold.We get top quality food, delivered, piping hot,with a smile for around £14.I have always suffered indigestion, but when I have a Fortune Garden meal the quality is so good I feel so much better.Try it, you won't be disappointedWell done fortune garden don't change a thing

Used this takeaway a few times before, although it's not one of my favourites. Had a couple of my favourite meals from here & didn't think they were as nice as other places. Not impressed with delivery on most recent visit as delivery was supposed to be 40-45 minutes and it took well over an hour.

Very hard to find a better Chinese take away. Great food, very clean. We never use another Chinese take away!!

My daughter lives in Nottingham and uses takeaways all the time due to pressure of work. She just could not believe the quality of the foodfood was piping hot, freshly cooked with lovely ingredients. £24 for four people with plenty of choice. we will most definitely be using this shop again.

We have been using fortune gardens for our Chinese takeaway for several years now. The food is always piping hot once it's been delivered. It's always full of flavour and to be fair we ave never had a bad order from here. One negative woud be the chips- they go hard while your eating your meal. Defiantly best in the area though. Would recommend the crispy shredded chilli chicken
