Forte's in Conwy

Was looking forward to fish chips & mushy peas at dinnertime after our morning drive here, but unfortunately, the fish turned out a bit dry and not very tasty, was expecting better from a seaside restaurant.

Went for lunch. We both had a bacon toastie. It was very mediocre. No side salad or dressing came with it so it did look a bit sparce on the plate. We also requested a serving of thick cut chips. They were lovely. We then ordered a cake. It was a small sponge cake filled with a thick layer of fresh cream from the cooling cabinet which had a turntable. So all the cakes in the cabinet could be seen at all angles. The cake arrived and we immediately sent it back as it was nowhere near the quality of the cakes in the cabinet. No cream was visible and it looked old. The waitress reluctantly brought us another cake. It looked exactly the same. So to save the embarrassment, we cut into this one but it was obviously stale and the cream had shrunk within the sponge, as fresh cream does when it's old. We left it, it was not edible and advised the staff as we paid. Her attitude was very annoying and in fact, we suggested she try the cake herself if she didn't believe us! She deducted it off the bill. We won't be going back. Their customer service is extremely poor. Trying to pass off stale, old cakes and refusing to replace with fresh from the cabinet as requested is appalling.

Breakfast outside. Two sausage toasted sandwiches and drinks. All efficiently served by young waiting staff. It’s not cheap but great venue on sea front.

Disappointing lunch despite the friendly and efficient waiters. We ordered mushrooms on toast - a big mistake - two buttered slices of cheap toast topped with lots of heated up tinned mushrooms. It tasted as unappetising as it looked. Great for cold drinks and coffees but that lunch has put us off eating here again.

We come here once a year and this was best it’s been for some time. Attentive young waiter. Food was lovely. Menu has been given revamp. Table overlooking beach. Cannot ask for more. It’s old fashioned but that’s its charm. It pricey but I’m on holiday! Welsh rarebit recommended.

Really lovely cafe. Delicious ice cream. Very good coffee. Waiting on staff friendly and helpful. Lovely view of the beautiful new sandy beach. Recommend.

My husband came into this place last weekend for an ice cream to share with our daughter as it was her first time trying it. Myself and my daughter waited outside for him to return and I could see by his face he was absolutely flabbergasted... £9.25 for THREE SCOOPS of ice cream in a tub? Ridiculous! I understand things have gone up but to charge that much was stupid! He checked prices down the road and they were half the price in the road side trailer opposite trillo avenue! Just goes to show you do not need to be charging the earth!

I have been three times in total and each time I leave disappointed, will never go back and try again. Most recent visit, I did not stop to purchase anything and instead visited the cafe around the corner. The inside resembles times of living with covid with partitions everywhere and not being allowed to stand near the counter. No alternative to ice cream which with a diary intolerant child was disappointing. Service is always very poor, never made to feel welcome and prices really don’t reflect standards. Much better options further up the coast in Llandudno. Once upon a time “Fortes” was the place to be! Seems to be the place to avoid these days!

Went later Saturday afternoon, had scones with a tea and a coffee. The staff were polite and clean but sadly not special. The drinks were fine. we have had better scones and butter was scarce. Sad really because the Fortes in Llandudno is terrific

Complete rip off! 2 sandwiches and drinks £26. £9.50 for a beef sandwich which had more butter than actual (cheap thin packet) meat! Turkey option was no better! Staff seemed numb. Wouldn’t ever go back.

I had a breakfast brunch, white toast and a pot of tea at my visit. All staff I accounted were very polite and friendly. Food quality was definitely above that of your average high street cafe. The sausages in particular should be mentioned for their high quality. The black pudding was the end portion and I found it to be a little hard at the nub end.

A clean and pleasant premises, but ridiculously expensive. £3.50 for a minute portion of ice cream, a complete rip off.

My husband and I went twice whilst we were in Llandudno for a short break . The breakfast was excellent and we were very satisfied both times . On the second visit the Welsh rarebit my husband shared with me was magnificent. Coffee and hot chocolate are fabulous too and the cakes were good too .The service could not have been better . It is not a cheap place but the quality is definitely there. Would highly recommend

We have been here several times over the years. Mainly just for coffee. During this visit the place was noticeably quieter. We ordered 2 shallow mince pies and a small slice of apple pie. 2 cappuccinos and an espresso. When the waitress brought the bill my instant reaction was “ this is someone else’s bill”…….and then I looked at the detail. Yes, £3 each for a mince pie ( the ones that cost £1.50 for 4 in Sainsburys and a staggering £6.75 for a small slice of apple pie. £22 the total. We left with that uneasy feeling of being chiselled, taken for a ride. What a shame, not just for us ( it’s over and we won’t go there again) but for the the poor staff that work there having to inflict this usury on their customers. No wonder they look sad!

Nearly £8 for two tasteless coffees-never again. No wonder the place was empty. I shudder to think was a meal would cost. Staff unwelcoming.

Had breakfast here, clean and roomy place, order taken , food was hot and very nice, staff all young so no chatting , when we walked in there were 3 young people who just looked at us, do we just sit anywhere i asked , no reply so we just sat at a vacant table.

Cottage pie didn't tast of anything new t much meat no veg onion etc. was heated in microwave it was warm with some parts very hot. Not worth the 11.50

We were visiting Rhos on sea, and decided to have lunch at Fortes, as we both have some nice memories of the place growing up. What a big mistake. Staff were miserable, we sat down, looked at the menu, and wow, the prices!! This is a cafe, with restaurant prices . £9 for cheese on toast!!! £4.50 for a scone with jam and a squirty cream....sorry but that's not Clotted Cream! The scone was tasteless, with virtually no fruit in it. The hot drinks were okay. Looking around, the meals were mediocre,, and definitely not worth the money. The place needs a shake up, staff need to be a hot mote friendly ,customer centric and interested. The place needs a new menu to reflect the fact it's a cafe, not a restaurant!! Won't be visiting again. Dreadful..

Not been here since before the pandemic, and won't be going again. I live locally and we went for a stroll on the promenade. Called in to Forte for a coffee and cake each. Nearly fell through the floor when she presented the bill, over £18, the cakes were £5.95 each. We are pensioners and this was a little treat for us. Toilets disgrace no hot water and no heated dryer.

Me , my wife and daughter called for lunch , my daughter had bacon and chips which she said was ok , my wife had sausage egg and chips that she said wasn’t very good . I ordered a bacon sandwich on a white roll . This came in two slices of toast which wasn’t what I ordered and toast was burnt . We had a tea , coffee and juice . Bill was over £30 . This wasn’t even worth £10 . My so called bacon sandwich nearly £7 . Staff all looked miserable, never asked if meals were ok . They didn’t even look at us when we left . Total waste of good money

Prices at this cafe are extortionate, 3 sandwiches, sausage and chips and two kids meals with drinks came to just over £80.00. Service was not very good, told to find our own table, its just as well the plates were not cleared because is we had ice creams the bill would of been in the region of £100.00. Absolute rip off. No hot water in the toilets and the hand dryer just blew out cold air. Will go elsewhere in future. Quality of the food was cheap.

After coming the previous week with my elderly mother who is end of life with brain tumour and having had excellent service from Ben the waiter Michelle and katie mum decided o she’d like to go out for a bit of breakfast there but this experiance was not the same on entering we were met by Ben who we’d seen the previous week katie and Michelle on mum can’t eat much due to her illness and I had had a tummy op and couldn’t eaitner so as previous visit we’d explained this and opted for the small child’s breakfast we’d asked if that was okay and was to.d not a problem previous week this week the waitress took our order and took it to what looked like a supervisor who I could see having presented our order to her she was raising her voice to the staff member making mum and me feel very uncomfortable I could make out it was to do with ordering the childrens menu I asked the server if it was okay and she felt embarrassed I could tell and said yes to us the lady she w supervisor was called efi I asked who she was to a member of staff. She wasn’t very friendly towards the staff I could tell after receiving the food which was of reasonable standard we hurriedly ate it not all as we don’t have large apitites we left on the way out I’d told the lady I was dissapointed with the way she’d conducted service towards us it was only the staff that brought us back as we’d had previous week enjoyed ourself but this week encountered this rude lady who made us feel most uncomfortable mum doesn’t have long left being terminal and each day we spend with her is a bonus mum chose to come to fortes we’re from prestatyn so it’s a long way for mum being I’ll to endure in the car staff at the cafe are superb perhaps look at staff training for people skills for management staff as there not as good as the staff waiters and waitressses on shop floor they could teach the supervisor perhaps some skills with how to treat the paying customer and if your not happy with a customer let them now instead of making fools of your waiters and waitress in earshot of the customer in question very unhappy

Spotlessly clean, with a warm welcome and attentive staff. Good range of food, fabulous cakes all at reasonable prices. A great place to stop.

This restaurant is excellent for food but one member of staff is not very customer friendly. I will still eat here the food is really good and ice cream is to die for as are the cakes .
