One of the fun things about travelling around, (often in your own 'backwoods'), is when you unexpectantly stumble across a small eaterie or coffee house that you did not know existed... as was just the case for me recently with Forest Edge Roasting in Lyndhurst. I spend quite a bit of time in The New Forest and especially in Lyndhurst, (the de facto capital of the Forest in fact), for one reason or another and am quite well acquainted with the High Street coffee chains & independent outlets in the main part of the high street..but I don't normally have reason to head further up the village past the terrific Lyndhurst Antiques sited on the corner. However last week whilst visiting a couple of friends who trade in the Antique Centre somebody mentioned Forest Edge Roasting, just around the corner..so offering to buy them hot drinks, I popped around the corner..just 3 or 4 doors up... and there indeed it was. Not sure if I had opened the right door, (it looking for all the world like an entrance to one of the flats above), a good-looking, well laid out & spotlessly clean, coffee bar met my eyes, with several comfy-looking nooks in which to sit... and in the far corner, a small wee business-like area where, I was told, the owner actually roasts the coffee beans..so you can't get much fresher than that!. The delightful young lady behind the counter was very welcoming and appeared to know well the specific coffee order that I was putting in for my two friends..and for me, well I opted for a hot chocolate. Probably a sacrilegious thing for me to order in a 'proper' coffee house', but she was very happy with my order and so, thankfully, I got my 'rare treat'! On a cold morning, I am so glad I stuck to my guns and ordered my favoured hot-choccie as it was just superb..and was even more pleased that I ordered their large option..for though in my experience of ordering take-out drinks, hot chocolate is an easy drink to get wrong: too thick or too thin, too sweet or not sweet enough..luke- warm or mouth-burningly hot....however Forest Edge Roasting's offering was spot-on and just mouth-watering.... ....and my two pals also gave the thumbs up to their coffees as well! So if you ever find yourself down in Lyndhurst, (you may have popped in to view the famous Ferrari garage down at the bottom of the village or you are perhaps heading up to see Alice Liddell's grave...the inspiration for Lewis Carroll's 'Alice Through The Looking Glass'... in the Churchyard of St Michael & All Angels Church at the top end of Lyndhurst), make sure you find time to you pop into Forest Edge Roasting, ( at the top of the village on the right-hand side), for cuppa..either in or as a take-out..! Here you'll get a wonderful welcome, a cracking hot drink...and you'll also be helping another hard-working, small local business compete with the major high street chains in these times of tough trading! 👍

What a place! As coffee lovers we saw the word Roastery and were sold. We were not disappointed, the beans were being roasted as we went in! The smell was amazing and the coffee itself some of the best we have had in the UK. The owners were so friendly and interested in our dogs, as we were in theirs too (sweet Bagel the Beagle cross!). Would certainly recommend to those who love coffee (and for those who don't, there were some fantastic looking cakes!). We will return!

The best coffee in the South! I always buy the Costa Rica blend online but thought I would visit the cafe. Really nice coffee, pastries and cold drinks. It was nice to read for an hour and relax. I will be back soon!

As the rest of the reviews suggest the coffee here is outstanding. We have been a couple of times now and it’s worth the stress of traffic to get there. Excellent coffee as good as anywhere. If you like great coffee then this is one for you!

What a find! Located a couple of doors down from the Crown Hotel on the same side of the street in Lyndhurst. Hubby the coffee snob loved the coffee, and they grind their own here too. Personally a tea drinker, yet a lovely cuppa and a great naughty cake choice. Lovely lady behind the counter, presumed the owner, very chatty and friendly. Great place, highly recommended.

We recently stayed for a week in Lyndhurst and, in between walking and enjoying the New Forest, we found ourselves inexctribably drawn back again and again to this great little coffee shop. They roast and grind their own coffee for the cafe but also to sell, a couple of bags of which made the return journey to Hertfordshire. The staff were also really welcoming to us. A definitite stop for anyone in this neck of the woods (forest!)

Fantastic coffee, amazing service and the actual shop, considering it’s next to the high street is very peaceful and relaxing. So glad to have stumbled upon this place… would highly recommend above and beyond a lot of the other coffee places… plus you can buy and take their coffee away to enjoy at home… (my new local so to speak).

We were away in lyndhurst for a weekend away. We went in on a couple of occasions my husband can recommend the coffee and is planning to order beans to have at home. I enjoyed a lovely chai latte and can definitely recommend the sweet treats there too

We had an amazing work's Christmas lunch at Forest Edge! Planning lunch for 12 was really easy, and Robyn sent us a menu so we could choose and preorder our food. We all struggled to choose (so many yummy options!) but the majority went with a turkey, stuffing and Christmas slaw sourdough toasted sandwich- OMG it was delicious! We also chose a hot drink and cake, there were many mouth watering options. The staff were attentive and the food came out perfect without a hitch. Our tables were decorated in christmassy bits too, amazing in every way thank you Robyn and team FE x

For years it was an abandoned restaurant, then a Deli that didn't work out, a bathroom shop (I bought mine there!) that fell to covid..., until finally we - the lucky lads & ladies of Lyndhurst - struck gold and landed our very own roastery and café. Forest Edge Roasting has become my favourite place in the town. The coffee is roasted on-site and smells/tastes great, the staff are all welcoming, friendly and happy to indulge your conversational whims if desired, or leave you be if - like me - you just sit down and start reading. There are a variety of sweet treats and a couple of savoury if you want to indulge. Dogs are welcome and the relaxed atmosphere plus all of the above make it a real treat to spend time there. Monday is typically roasting day and as a result it's easy to follow your nose to the front door at the top of the high street.

I've previously reviewed this establishment and it is now our go to when we come to the new forest. Start off with a coffee and a cake. Always clean and friendly. Consistently great coffee. The store design is fantastic and love seeing the open roasting area. As a gift my wife bought us the coffee roasting experience and it did not disappoint. Jo and Joe were fantastic, very open and friendly. We learned a lot and built on previous knowledge. We discussed aspects of roasting that I had never considered before and gave an appreciation for the work they do to ensure their blends are as good as they are. We are going to be trying our blend tomorrow as it has been sitting on the shelf teasing us all week. For any enthusiasts this experience will be money well spent.

The coffee is delicious, the staff are friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere is friendly and relaxed. We love it and will definitely return. Costa just lost our business!

Me and my misses popped in here as we wanted a cup of coffee, but when we went in, the atmosphere was lovely, clean and well decorated, the owner was really nice, smiley and chatty. The coffee itself was one of the best we've had and will definitely be buying their beans for our expresso bean-to-cup! We look forward to popping back in next time we're in the area, and attending the roastery to learn how it's done.
