Sad to see this place has closed down but actually wasn’t great at all. Blonde manager women was rude, majority of the staff were rude, food was overpriced, portion sizes were constantly different due to a different chef every single time I went in. Just a bit naff really.

Overpriced sandwiches. The food is mediocre for what you get. However, the reason I wouldnt return is because of how I was treated by the staff. I thought I had left my jacket here and when I went back to ask them they were quite rude and apathetic. The waiter who was in the restaurant the day before when I was there said " I wouldnt know". She said she would ask and get back to me without offering to take my number. The manager got irate when I asked one of the male waiters who had served me the day before. She told me she would call if it showed up, but was more annoyed that I had asked another member of staff. Not very hospitable. I would not recommend and I won't be back either!

Food lacked flavor and seasoning. Staff were pleasant and atmosphere was chilled. Don't think I'll be back considering other places.

Why is the door kept half open in the middle of winter? It is literally impossible to sit at the two tables by the window as cold gushes of air keep coming through it. Given that it is January, maybe not a bad idea to consider finding a way for the door to close. Staff don't seem to mind but again, they seem to not really know what's going on. During my visit there was no soap in the bathrooms, they kept forgetting to bring stuff to the table and kicked us out half an hour early (4.30 instead of 5 on a Sunday, despite opening hours stating otherwise). Cute decor and location are not enough to keep customers coming. Training your staff up to standard and having some real consideration for customers' experience in your cafe should perhaps be more important to the owners.

Extremely dirty, found hairs in my sandwich. Steer clear, staff were rude and aggressive when I drew attention to the rodents and hair in my food

Arrived at 11.45 on a Monday morning, only 2 tables occupied. Ordered a smashed avocado on toast with a poached egg. Told that they run out of poached eggs so only fried eggs were available (what place doesn't cook their EGGS to order? I should have realised what was to come..). Agreed to the substitution. Got served a stone cold piece of toast with overly salted avocado and... You guess it... Old fried eggs. Inedible. Upon providing polite feedback didn't receive an offer for refund just a half muttered sorry by a clueless waitress. Avoid.

If you're looking for tasty brunch including avocado and halloumi in a friendly and relaxed vibe, this is the place to go. The coffee and fresh juices are delicious. A precious Hackney neighbourhood gem.

Absolutely fabulous choice of delicious breakfasts/brunches in this bright and busy cafe. Super service and great food. The tenderstem brocolli and asparagus with poached eggs was to die for. Felt healthy and energised all day. Definitely a place to return to and recommend!

Overpriced, appalling, happy to pay for quality but this isn’t quality. Total rip off wouldn’t go again.

We wanted a hearty satisfying Sunday brunch and got exactly what we wanted. The poached eggs with avocado was perfect, as was the poached eggs with salmon. Being super hungry I ordered a side of halloumi which was perfectly cooked. Coffee was done well. Highly recommend for a visit.

We'd been to a fantastic Saturday night gig at Oslo in Hackney and then had a fun night out in Dalston afterwards. After a much-needed lie in at the Travelodge the following morning, we were ready for a mid-day brunch! A quick "nearest brunch spot" search on Google flagged up Footnote within an 8 minute walk and a browse of the menu absolutely sealed the deal. First impressions of the building upon approach were positive. It had a brasserie style appearance from the outside with deep purple paintwork. I loved the large windows which let in lots of natural light (even on this slightly drizzly late September morning) and I could tell the place was very busy which was a good sign! We were greeted enthusiastically and walked promptly to a table for two in the window. There was a really nice, relaxed, friendly buzz in the place and it felt good to be there amongst this young, hip crowd. We ordered "Hummus & Halloumi" (Fried egg on home-baked pitta bread, halloumi, butter bean humus, tomato, shallots, parsley - £8) and "Aubergine" (Poached eggs on home-baked pitta bread, roasted aubergine, cherry tomatoes on the vine, tahini, parsley, sumac - £9). We also went for a side of "Avo mash" (£2.20). For drinks, my companion ordered a flat white with oat milk (£2.80) and I ordered a Masala chai latte (£3.10). We were waited on by a very kind, polite man (long hair in a ponytail, beard/stubble/arty/slacker look). Service was just right, never intrusive but reassuringly there when you needed it. There were always staff behind the service counter and by the door so there was so no chance of anyone walking in and not being greeted which I think is very important. The food was brought out promptly despite all tables being full and cooked to order as you would expect. I will let my photos speak for themselves but wow! Everything was beautifully presented, really fresh, imaginative and portion sizes were great. They have dedicated suppliers and try to source locally where they can. I also loved that free jugs of tap water filled with fresh mint were pro-actively put on tables and topped up when required. My chai latte was quite a spectacle as it was brought over in its own individual mini silver saucepan with tea strainer (I was so tempted to slip it in my bag and I bet I'm not the first one to consider it haha - obviously I didn't!!!) There is a discretionary tip/service charge of 10% already included in your bill so check it carefully before leaving a further tip! Overall, very, very impressive and one of the best brunches I'd had in a long while and next time I'm in Hackney, I will actively seek Footnote out. Keep up the good work, Team!

Stopped there after my gym session. Received a warm welcome, sat at a table by the window and ordered my juice and brunch. First I was presented with a nice jug of filtered water with fresh mint. Ordered a healthy juice with apple, ginger, orange , celery----delicious. Food - 9.50 ASPARAGUS & BROCCOLI Poached eggs on sourdough, crispy kale, blanched asparagus, tenderstem broccoli, radish, orange-honey-mustard dressing (DF). Creative, delicious and healthy.

In brief - if you think two eggs on toast with a sliver of smoke salmon is worth 14 quid then this is your place.

I booked a table for 18 people at to celebrate my husband’s birthday. We arrived at 1 pm, expecting to have lunch together, as I had clearly stated when making the reservation. Unfortunately, the entire experience was a disaster. Upon arrival, we were told to order through an app, but after trying for 30 minutes, the app kept saying they were too busy to accept orders. We had no choice but to go to the bar to order directly, where we were told the wait time for food would be at least an hour—despite it being peak lunchtime. After waiting patiently, one of our friends went back to the bar to place an order after confirming a new dish choice with his wife. When he returned to the bar just five minutes later, he was told that they were no longer accepting *any* orders at all, and that he would have to order through Deliveroo and have it delivered to the restaurant! This was at 1:30 pm, during peak lunchtime, for a group that had made a reservation specifically for lunch in the restaurant. To make matters worse, after waiting over an hour, we received below-average food that was overpriced and disappointing. This is absolutely unacceptable for a place that claims to cater to large groups and events. The lack of communication, delays, and poor service completely ruined what was meant to be a special celebration. If you’re planning a large event or want a decent meal in a timely manner, I would strongly suggest looking elsewhere. I regret choosing this place for such an important occasion. ---

Hugely disappointed by the staff's behaviour, the lady at the till, called me rude in front of the whole queue. Please do not go there if you respect yourself.
